What was the most memorable part of Front Mission: Gun Hazard to you?

Probably the difficulty. For some reason it was a really tough at some parts to figure out how to end the level. Aside from that, it's a solid game
So far for me it has to be the art style(Yoshitaka Amano) and the music(Uematsu). There's this particular song called Richard Millman from when you visit New York, man, nostalgic jazz doesn't get any better. Thank you a lot for making this video! I'm glad to have found this game.
Dude, agtp are more professional than most professional translators these days. What passes for professional translation of japanese products nowadays is kind of a fucking joke quite frankly. Some of those "translations" are so fucking bad they're literally rewrites.
Back in the day I bought this game randomly for a dollar because I liked the cartridge art. Turns out it was one of the most memorable games I've played. Still have the cart to this day.
Sounds like you got a great deal!
Yeah? Which country?
The story of Gun Hazard is superb. Seeing Actraiser making it to the switch, I hope this one gets a remaster or even just a localization.
Seriously. This game is just a lot of fun to play.
FM Gun Hazard is such a good game. I would love to see a remake of this entry.
One of the best Square series ever! I always recommend people play all five of the main entries, the story is unbelievably good
Great review, Xygor man! Since I saw the trailer of the re-launch of the original Front Mission to the Nintendo Switch, now with more touch-ups, I keep the hope of other re-releases of the series and by that the official translation of Gun Hazard.
Such great game, and one that make the "holy trinity" of mecha-action-plataformers from the SNES to me: Cybernator (Assault Suits Valken), Metal Warriors and Front Mission Gun Hazard!
Keep up the good work, brother!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you! Hopefully some new fans discover this one for the first time now!
One of the OST background tracks is a rip of two bjork songs (violently happy and more to life) Great game.
Weebs: the Japanese never steal ideas.
Absolutely underrated gem!
My favorite Square game. One of the few games I played entirely in Japanese before the translation patch.
While I enjoyed the gameplay as its like Assault Suit Valken and Assault Suit Leynos (no surprise there as some of the developers of that game worked on this), and the music is enjoyable to listen to after finishing the game, what actually stuck the most with me are the backgrounds.
The city background with the sun peeking through the clouds. The Austria/Switzerland region with its hills with trees. The Alaska mountain region during night with the moon in the sky. The desert with the setting sun and stars appearing in the night sky.
One of the best. Started the Front Mission series with this game, and the graphics is amazing.
I just recently imported this game, can't wait to see your video on it!
Gun hazard is so much better than I thought it would be. I played that translation for quite a while. This video made me want to go back to it. I stopped playing at the annoying mission shown about 5:30 where you have to leave your wanzer a bunch and navigate that maze-like hanger. I couldn’t figure out where to go, meant to look it up…then forgot
Front mission is one of my favorite rpg games
The story was the best part for me, very much inspired in the occult elite of today, they even mention the NWO at the end, but also adding a character like the 'Controller' that leaves you wondering what was that all about. Overall a really great game.
Yeah I was blown away that many of the things coming to light decades later were included in such a narrative. Only Deus Ex stuck out in such a similar fashion.
Man, this game looks amazing. Great review video! Both you and snes drunk sure have high praise of this game, so I definitely gotta play it. I also wanna hear more tracks by Uematsu and Mitsuda. Also, Masashi Hamauzu is credited as a composer as well. He did like half of FF10 and a ton of FF13 trilogy
It's really fun, definitely different from your run of the mill RPG OR action game!
@@Xygor man, the cartridge prices sure went up since your video though! I'm seeing like 40-60 bucks now
@@justicerainz yikes!
The music and graphics are awesome. At the beginning of each stage I just listen to the music for 5 minutes or more. I'm still challenging the final boss! For me it is one of the best games in my game list. Also thanks for your review ❤.
Excellent game and great review. There’s a great sense of replay ability with your ally mechs and different path progression on the map.
This looks awesome! I was a huge fan of Cybernator and Metal Warriors and had wished they implemented some kind of rpg elements but figured that was too much to ask for its time.
Thankfully emulation is simple and plentiful.
Just tried this last night and it’s awesome ❤I have a flash drive with over 720 snes (Japan releases) as well. I still haven’t tried them all yet. But this one is a Gem 💎
Glad you enjoy it!
Always wanted to try this one out. Thanks for putting some spot light on it again!
You bet!
This one, I want them to port this one
This would make an excellent remake!
While waiting for that, you can check out a similar indie game, Hardcore Mecha.
I always disliked how most of the mechs wouldn't let you fire when you land from a moderate jump, so I beat the game with the starting mech, which didn't do that. Some of the most fun I've had in any video game.
Gotta go back and retry it thanks to this comment.
You definitely have knack for choosing games to review almost always something interesting 🤔 heard just enough about to recognize but not so played out it's a 1 of 142 reviews. Respect
Cybernator and Metal Warriors are more traditional action oriented interpretations of the Mecha genre, Cybernator even shares it's game engine with Gun Hazard; both games are good alternatives or add-ons if you want a quick fix.
Great video man!! Never knew about this game but I will find it! Huge front mission and Cybernator Fan
Played through this one for the first time last week myself. Oddly, I thought it could have used more difficulty. I never really used my allies unless it was required. In fact, I didn't even bother blocking any attacks and generally forgot that function even existed! I just used the shotgun and tanked everything and won anyway. A greater incentive to actually use those tools would have been welcome.
Agreed. Very easy.
Your videos are superb. lots of great recommendations
Thank you!
Man this looks dope and so does the first one. My first Front Mission was 4 I believe on the PS2, I remember loving that game.
Played so much Cybernator as a kid. Thanks for the review, never tough that the same team did work for a similar game and I was planing to play cybernator again now i can't pass the fact that i need to try out his game too.
great channel! I love the front mission series.
I got a guy on ebay to take my og Japanese cart, dump it, translate it, and put the translated rom back onto the cart, with the og jpn chip included, for a fee. So cool. For me, having my own cart converted was great! I'm sure I'm a minority but I love playing my own cart on a real snes.
That’s a pretty cool service!
The most "memorable" thing I remember about this game, was a leaflet of it, that came with my import copy of Seiken Densetsu 3 - much much later, I would play it, and would love it :)
Great overview, love the narration as always. Also, did you heart your own comment? That’s a boss move 😆
Nice!! I´m playing this in my ps vita lol
The one issue I have with the translation is about Genoce. It's just Genos I had to literally play though the original version to get the Katakana on that bastard. It's the same as the character from Super Mario RPG. Sure I could go more into that character but I want people to experience that character for themselves.
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Can anyone help me with this game though please? I have looked online with no luck.
I was playing through the game a while ago with the translation, and was really enjoying it. But after quite a few hours of play, a meter on the screen in between missions, one that was going down as I repaired the mech before the next mission, ran out. Its very possible I am being very stupid, but I didn't understand fully what the meter was actually counting, and I couldn't find a way to refill it, or any other way to repair the mech. I got in a situation where I couldn't get through the only mission available with only a sliver of health, and abandoned the game.
I really wanted to see the story through. Anyone got advice for a stuck gamer like myself?
It's the fuel gauge. Return to the nearest shop, buy fuel and you're good to go.
@@kraftyboarder Great 👍 , thanks very much. I'll give it another go today. It's such a cool game and story, so really didn't want to not see it through. Cheers.
@@JustChrisWillDoTa Glad I could help. I'm playing through the game for my first time right now and had to look up the exact same thing when I couldn't repair anymore.
Reminds me of the excellent Metal Warriors game.
Hey just joined and I only play front missions 4 but like what you do going keep Watching
i could always rely on this chanel to sell games to me. thank you.
Glad to help with that!
This game is beyond underrated
Couldn't agree more!
Definitely going on mt. Backlog for playing...
Interesting. Front mission looks a lot with metal warrior but way better as metal warrior had only a few stages.
Excellent review 👍👍 I need to play this. Its for SNES right? Is it available to play on other consoles?
Not that I know of
Those backgrounds!
I'm going to play this NOW
It's a good one to play!
Wow that really does look almost identical to cybernator
It really does....eerily so!
@@Xygor the design and terrain. But specifically the punch and shield, those are 1:1
Not that this is a bad thing at all
looks good gonna have to check it out
I've been playing this recently on my miyoo mini+ and its a really cool game. the blocking importance really came across in a sudden battle against a flying enemy that is just smashing me. I wil say the power scaling seems a little off though and i feel like my mech is a bit under powered for where I am in the story.
It's a great game!
I still can't find all the 05 weapons, still have one left as I remember.
Keep going!
Man, there is some link between this game and Armored Core??? There is so many similarities, its awesome!!
Gun Hazard is a flawed masterpiece.
Played it for the first time entirely in Japanese, didn't understand a thing from the story but it was a blast.
Now I'm playing through it again with the English translation and finally I can understand the awesome story.
And even with some flaws, like the empty levels, the dumb AI or some obtuse mechanics, I simply cannot put the controller down, the game is too fun.
Ps : you can play 2 player by pressing down + L + R + Start in the 2nd controller.
I have no nostalgia for this soundtrack and tons of nostalgia for the OSTs of Chrono Trigger, Ys IV and Super Metroid, yet I feel these soundtrack is at least on par if not better than those and definitely a golden standard for SNES soundtracks.
Is it possible for me to play this on the delta for iOS with the English translation
Are u going to do ff3 and 5 complete story explained videos?
This game looks so cool. I would've played the heck out of it back in the day.
28/40? Who rates anything out of 40?!?
Famitsu uses a system where they have 4 reviewers each rate it out of 10, and then adds them up instead of averaging them.
The only bad things I remember from this game was some of the gear levels up way too slow. Most feels about right but there were just some pieces it felt like it takes a hundred times longer if you wanted to level it up. Then the AI for the companions. It's terrible. You're better off never using them to help you on any of the maps because they're always a liability.
Nice!
Think last front mission i played was 3, maybe 4 ( wuick google check, ya 4) mission that game oh and armored Core games too. ( firing up emulator now)
loving these new ChatGPT reviews. The AI still has that AI voice jank but cool nonetheless.
While I love the mainline Front Mission series, this game always felt like a missed opportunity due to how bland the level design was compared to games like Cybernator. Combined with the lack of actual enemy placement for many stages (lots of random spawning), it was like attention was given to the mechs but the levels were merely an afterthought.
100 times better than Cybernator dont even compare please.
Gun Hazard was criminally overlooked. Shame.
Definitely so...maybe it will get a remaster some day!
Wait a minute... Are you sure Front Mission was Square's first strategy RPG? I thought Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre on the Super Famicom were their first.
Hey look assault suit leynos.
Game @0:13 ?
Star Ocean: The Second Story
This is an interesting game, but I got stuck and couldn't figure out how to progress. It's okay, but I prefer Metal Warriors or regular Front Mission.
Just review Parasite Eve already it's painfully obvious what direction you're going in.
It was so different from anything I had expected, I remember kinda wanting to dislike it at first.. like wth am I playing? Other than some menu/control wonk, I was playing a masterpiece. Good call
❤
👍
Man I freaking love this game
Is it unbalanced as hell? Sure. Are some characters like Anita or Clark extremely boring? Maybe. Could the gameplay have used more variety? Possibly.
But damn is destroying mechs addictive as hell, the special weapons feel so good to use. Bazooka Rams through enemy hordes, upward Vulcan and flamethrower just SLAY bosses and weapons like paralyzer or hard knuckle stop enemies dead in their tracks (hard knuckle in via Blanca is also very funny). Shielding is surprisingly a bit deep as a mechanic and can feel very rewarding to master, rocket jumps with dash unit 3 even more so. Though the majority of allies are an extra hurdle more than anything, ones like Sakata or Axel can be super useful and fun to have around (they can be controlled by a second player too! How sick is that?). Character progression system is also really nice, sure the leveling system itself is your basic retro grinding system, but the weapons themselves get stronger as you use them instead of getting weaker which is so much more intuitive (weapons get so strong at one point, they surpass their next tier), though this mechanic can make it a little hard to switch to a new weapon if you're using a very leveled one, forcing you to wait till the next batch of tiers. I also just love the bulk of the mechs. Some people see it as a drawback, but I think it's very realistic and makes you feel much more like a tank (besides, not every game needs to control like MegaMan X).
And ALL of that is just the gameplay, I haven't even mentioned the games very memorable soundtrack, which fits the game very well and adds to its emotions and it's overall atmosphere, or the amazing graphics, which are some of the most detailed and gorgeous looking by far on the super famicom (honestly they look better than some games nowadays even). Man, have you even seen the story? Again some characters can be super boring and some cliche plot devices are thrown in here and there, but then you've got the dawg himself, Genoce, which needs no explaining I'm sure, or the funnier characters like Luven, or Axel's arc with him taking revenge of bishop(if you bring Axel to sibirska with you anyways).
Since I'm here might as well mention a few secrets this game has:
Napalm gun is the secret and fourth primary weapon which handles like a much slower but stronger Vulcan. The first tier can be found in borukta in Mount bartov in a box, the second in Zambola (I forgot where exactly but I believe it's an area West to Janga), the third can be found by revisiting the mission where Albert tells Grant that he's gonna rescue Anita and going to the very end, the fourth can be found by simply going further right after you first see the final ship that your party acquires and the fifth is found in a secret shop, which can be found in the same place as the fourth napalm after beating sentinel with Anita equipped. There you will learn about a shop located in Sydney which contains all napalm tiers, armor plate 5 (I guess the devs did do some meming) and all spark shot tiers. Speaking of which, spark shot is a weapon that Auto aims on enemies and is a single target weapon. The first tier can be found after revisiting the mission where you first meet Sakata, the second after stealing an enemy ship in sibirska(it will be automatically acquired after beating the mission), no idea where the third is, and don't even bother with the fourth since it's located in the final area which is useless since like I said, you can just find all tiers in the secret shop.
Anyway I spent way too much time on this comment and on gun hazard which is probably my favourite game ever and if anyone ever reads this to the end I'll make a detailed weapon tier list.
Bought this about 10 years ago and just now trying to actually beat it...also learning some Japanese in the process
Great!
This Game is where decades old Gamertag and Psn name comes from *GunHazard* 🥰😅🥰
the most overlook is front mission alternative
