What was the most memorable part of Live A Live to you?

The Mecha chapter or especially the Knight chapter. (SPOILERS)
The Knight chapter is not quite up to the level of later RPGs- Final Fantasy VII, which is psychological and incredibly complicated in its details, or even Chrono Trigger, which is complex enough, from Square, but in terms of a personal, psychological, and emotional level it succeeds and offers a rare perspective from the villain, which I seldom see in video games or media in general (though Sephiroth offers a unique perspective during the Nibelheim flashback, which to be honest, is mostly overlooked).
I enjoy how the chapter isn't typical and reveals how things could be twisted or easily be the other way around.
all i remember is this game sucks.
I'm here after the Nintendo Direct. This baby is back! In HD2D no less.
Same!!
In Pog form
Well this video aged phenomenally after that direct last night.
Live A Live definitely had one of the most unique and strongest stories I've ever seen.
Here's hoping LIVE A LIVE will finally get it's time to shine with the HD-2D remake getting released in the west!
So excited to play this game for the first time the soundtrack is such a banger
The remake looks sick
@@howlingpig And we got the original composer (who also did Kingdom Hearts' music) returning, along with the original creator/director who had said he'd wanted to do a remastering for some time.
This aged well!
They should do the same thing with Treasure of the Rudras, Bahamut Lagoon, and Treasure Hunter G as well.
Super excited that it's coming to switch and it looks like they've upgraded it
They have. It's getting HD2D remake. That's 2d pixel sprites on 3d polygons, and shaded dark edges
Yup, and the original director/creator AND composer have returned!
This makes me want full fledged cowboy and wrestling RPGs.
here after the remake announcement, looks so much better let's go
The MEGALOMANIA track is one of the highlights in this game for me
it is coming!!
I'm just here before this Vid blows up after the announcement yesterday
Not anymore! Remake confirmed.
You know, with all the remakes and virtual console stuff around these days, there should be more interest in companies to retry things like this that didn't get much of a chance to shine.
They could do a remake of this one and expand it to get more playtime with it since they wouldn't need to worry about memory size anymore.
@Zye1984 Live A Live was recently trademarked for Europe, the United States, and Australia back in July, which means that a release of some kind (retranslation, remake, etc.) is at least on their radar. And Takashi Tokita (scenario writer/character designer for FFIV, Chrono Trigger co-writer/co-director), the game's prime director said that they could release/remake the game in the U.S. if enough interest remained for it during its 26th anniversary, I believe.
Boy do I have a Nintendo direct for you
It’s finally here lol
@@theblindfoldedbirdwatcher570 Well, what do you know.
How ya doing, Nostradamus?
Nintendo: I'm about to save this game's career.
Shouldn't it be Square Enix?
@@tun1412 Nintendo is publishing the game but it's hard to tell which company had the idea though.
one of the most innovative/fun series that I've played as a 11 year old along with Chrono Trigger
Hell, yea! Getting ready to start a new game of Live A Live and this pops up!!
Ahhhh Man... This is my favorite game of all time. Nice to see a new video covering it.
It's so underrated.
@@Xygor It was underrated enough that theres still only 2 fangames of it. Kinda sucks that the updated copyright stuff didn't get us a port.
So excited I get chance to play this in a few months!
Company: What setting should we choose for our new game
Designers: we could do a Sci-fi, Martial Arts, maybe something based an anime
Employee: I’ve got ALL OF THEM!!!!
CEO: GIVE THAT MAN A PROMOTION!!!!
man every character i would just try to grind to max lvl 10. without realizing it makes the enemies stronger with you lmao
Haha, yep! I should have mentioned that in this.
Loved your coverage on Live A Live. Definitely persuaded me to give the upcoming Nintendo Switch release a try. Keep up the good work!
Much appreciated! I was very surprised to see that announced!
Bout to blow up!
Funny you should mention that this was “overlooked”…
THIS is how it makes sense to pronounce the name. I've heard live a live and then live a live but u saying live a live really clears things up!!!
I have some good news!!!!!!!!!!
I am guessing they decided to improve on the length with Octorpath Traveller, which seemed to be inspired by this.
Live A Live remake is here and its great!
Not going to play this game anymore but definitely looking forward to the do-over. Definitely playing that.
It looks really good. I'm releasing a reaction video to the trailer soon!
@@Xygor Cool :) Many great games coming next half year for us RPG lovers :p
I'm currently playing this and just finished with the mecha arc
That was a pretty good one. Very imaginative mind-reading thing there which was fun.
Next they need to do an Enixs Terranigma HD/2D
Another fantastic video mate! Keep up the great work
14 more days till the remake!!
I've always heard great things about this game but still haven't gotten to checking it out myself. I didn't realize Yoko Shimomura worked on this, I was just recently talking about her regarding her Parasite Eve soundtrack. Awesome look at this game, thanks!
Yeah man, I think she's kind of underrated as a composer. I think she's done a lot of good work, and this was the best of it.
@@Xygor I've heard some amazing soundtracks from Shimomura from Kingdom Hearts I and II, but I can't say (well, don't know) that this was her pinnacle. The soundtracks fit each area nicely, and there's plenty of emotion to spare, but I do think that the soundtracks could be longer. I like the Mecha chapter's battle soundtrack and the general soundtrack (walking around in the adoption house) of the chapter. Megalomania is terrific, as well. One of the few boss battle music soundtracks to put me in awe, aside from Final Fantasy IV's main boss battle or some of the soundtracks from Final Fantasy VII or X, for example.
I like, however, that Live A Live isn't as repetitive in its soundtracks as other games are.
It's coming back:D
I am so frickin hyped af for this upcoming Switch Remake!!! This is truly amazing
I swear I'm not being contrarian, but Yoko Shimomura beats everyone.
Gotta love how the last Live a Live stream was more a concert and talk show then any announcements :/
I'm actually not sure what you mean by this. Is there an event or something?
@@Xygor ua-cam.com/video/CgdluSWk8zQ/v-deo.html
@@HokutoNoKhan Wow, I had no idea about this. Thanks!
@@Xygor for sure!
Actually, during the talk show, Tokita did mention that they would release? or remake the game if enough interest remained in the game, which is why the Live A Live stream was even made for the 26th anniversary- because of current interest in Japan and any other place.
The actual release of Live A Live on the Super Famicom did not sell well, but if Square-Enix is looking to bolster their income (They lost some income on Avengers), they might be inclined to least make a North American/International release for Live A Live. They already transferred Live A Live over to the 3DS in Japan, so maybe they could transfer it over to the Switch or iphones apps for an international release? All they would have to do is do a text re-haul, and they're good.
It's about time they do an official translation and port the game over there. Or even recreate it from the ground up, I don't know.
For sure, it'd be a great candidate.
Well, do I have good news for you.
They heard you.
OMGOMGOMG FOR REAL?? It's beautiful!!!
Reminds me of Romancing Saga games on Super Famicom.
There are some similarities....and this one is getting a remaster like those!
Basicaly Octopath Traveler before Ovtopath
I’m playing the demo on switch right now.
Looks like a fun game I like that combat system reminds me kinda a ps1 game I played forgot the name
I first played a partially translated rom of this as a kid on an emulator. Glad it's fully translated now
Man I would have loved this as a teen!
I'm REALLY looking forward to the new HD-2D remake of Live a live coming out July 22nd, 2022. It will be my first time playing this game as I was unfortunately just a BIT too young for games like this, the original first few Dragon Quests and Final fantasy games when they first game out back in the 80s having only been born in 1985. Speaking of Dragon Quest, I am also REALLY excited about the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake coming out soon as well. I feel that ALL of these great original 2D games deserve and SHOULD get the HD-2D remake treatment as it retains all of the games original charm and character AND allows people to experience these great games for the first time or revisit them for old times sake but with better graphics and UI.
You keep showing me games I wanna play that I have never heard of.
Check out the Far East of Eden Zero review :)
@@Xygor I'm getting there. I'm going down through all your videos that interest me (not a huge fan of watching people play games)
Not anymore. ;)
Nice. I need another rpg to play.
liked the original. loved the remake. thanks to nintendo giving this game another chance.
Agreed!
I need to make time for this game
If you liked retro RPGs you'll definitely like it.
Overlooked no longer
Great video, just needs a less "echoey" room or better mic.
Very Awesome Video! looking forward to the remake.
Same here!
you could make a video comparing the fan translation to the upcoming one when it arrives, would be interesting to see the differences =) i wonder how they'll do the battle system in the new one
You were right.
Thanks!
UA-camrs jumping on this like its always been a favourite of theirs lmao 🤣
I know it's Live A Live, but am I the only one who sees it as A Live Evil?
Yes, there's a catch, its hidden in the game.
I'd like to consider transcribing your content to another language, just like we usually do to strafefox's Super Splash Wave channel, Mr. Xygor.
Hey make a video about the remake!!!
Play touhou-a-live if you like more dificult challenges and a other storyline..its a "fan"/"hack" rom..and the gameplay system are similar..its a nice game to play
Live (soft "i") a live? Or live (hard "I") a live?
Not gonna be overlooked no more in a few months.
Live a Evil.
Am I the only person that reads this as Live A Evil???
I did not enjoy this game. I tried hard, but did not like the thematically different scenarios… :(
Oersted did nothing wrong, really.
The name of the game is "A Live Evil", where "live" means as in a live concert. Just look at the title screen. The word "A" is in the forefront, so it's the first word you should read. So why are all fans of this game dyslexic? The third word has the letters in the following order: E-V-I-L, so why does everyone read it as "LIVE"? The makers of the game had a good idea in making one word the mirror image of the other, but it flew over most Americans' heads. I can't blame the Japanese for thinking Westerners are all stupid! LOL
