I fucking bullied my brother by camping and using the guided missiles on him in this game. Good times. Eventually he started whining about my tactics and begged me to stop, wasn’t my fault he couldn’t win.
Indeed mate when I was in school me and a few of my mates used to play multiplayer and just used to work together slaughtering hundreds of bots was just great fun.
Actually, the console version ended on the space station. Also, the PC version doesn't just omit sections of the game, whole levels are altered dramatically. The first level alone is proof. On console, it starts as more of a "choose your path" type level that is quite open (for a PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era game), where as the PC version is very linear and closed down.
-Mariano Productions- I wouldn't know, I played that first map on PC and realized why the port was not as kindly received as the console version and I just stopped. I was not about to play through an inferior version of one of my more favorite games of that generation... at least when it first came out... it doesn't play too hot today because of how the controls work. Also, the PC version worked fine for me for the short amount of time I played it. It was as easy as putting the disks in and installing it. Little confusing why he had an issue...
I want this game remastered. It's easily one of the best Bond games just like GoldenEye. I know Activision owns the Bond game rights, but I wish somebody like Nightdive Studios would buy the rights for this one game and port it over to modern day consoles.
This is one of my favourite games on the PS2 (never played the PC version which looks terrible), so I disagree about it being average. But admittedly, a lot of that is nostalgia. I just think the game works because of its settings, Bond charm, gadgets and vehicle sections. It's very much got the actiony part of James Bond down, which only Everything or Nothing managed to top. But come on man, you get to infiltrate a castle, go to Japan, drive underwater and fight in space! Compared to the gray bunkers of (military) shooters of today, I'd much rather play Nightfire.
the reviewer wouldn't understand any of that. He's chronically over critical, and should probably become a florist instead of an independent game reviewer.
This game was legendary. You didn't even talk about the split screen multiplayer, and the graphics were to be expected for a game of its age. There's great mission variety too, from the open choice first level, to the wide open sniping level in Chain Reaction, the cool aesthetics of Double Cross, the stairwell from hell in Phoenix Fire. Not to mention all the cool upgrades you get for getting gold medals.
Alternative title - 'How to be overly harsh in hindsight on a game from 19yrs ago (14yrs at the time of review).' Agent Under Fire & Nightfire were great games at the time. They might not have been outstanding console sellers but they were fun, got the Bond 'feeling' & were worth the money.
This is one of my all time favorite FPS games. I had so much fun playing multiplayer with my friends and going through single-player whenever they weren't around.
I would say the best version of Nightfire was the Gamecube version because it ran in 60 FPS and also had 4 player splittscreen multiplayer and i think it had the best multiplayer of all Bond games.
The Gamecube version is also playable on PC, using Dolphin and the TimeSplitters 2 mouse injector. In fact, I'm halfway through that version of the game at the moment.
I loved this game, planning on replaying it on OG Xbox. This is one of the best 'Goldeneye Successor' games along with Timesplitters 2/3, and the Perfect Dark games.
multi-player right? Because the campaign didn't have the "legs" that GoldenEye 64 had, at a time when games needed to be long. Why? Because there weren't many big games back then.
Nightfire had a fantastic multiplayer on the pc ..... and that was probably the closest ,gaming has ever gotten to a multiplayer stealth game ! Sadly no one plays it anymore ....
I have ! I actually have it right now .... playing mostly Versus btw . However when matches start in Chaos Theory all the spies seem to fly all over the map where the mercs just seem to be stay defenseless against them hoping not to get killed as fast as the others . And considering how fast everything happens i think Versus is more like an action game rather than stealth .
Wow, this game looks A LOT different on PC than it does on XBOX. When I first got my XBOX I didn't really have much to play as I had Fuzion Frenzy, Crismon Skies: High Road to Revenge, Spider-Man, Jet Set Radio Future/GT 2000, & 007 Nightfire but I never truly ever got tired of Nightfire. Then once I got a few more games like Halo 2, Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter, Brute Force, & Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Buther Bay, I found that I kept coming back to Nightfire. Granted I was only like maybe 10-12 but I loved this game and even now I still think it's fun. This guy is a bit too cynical IMO though. The game came out in 2002 so no it's not going to have spectacular graphics but at the time it still looked pretty good. Also no you don't have to use the manual aim to get through the game, as I can point, shoot, and kill enemies just fine. The only time I use manual aim is for a headshot on an unsuspecting enemy. PC players bitching about controllers is getting really fucking old.....
sorry for necro I guess, but having the game for both the PS2 and Xbox, I can say it's the PS2 version that is just ugly, and running at 30 fps it seems. Wouldn't surprise me the Gamecube version also looks better.
I remember having a lot of fun with this game on PS2 back in 02-03; it seemed to capture a lot of what made N64 GoldenEye fun, especially in multiplayer.
Hi gggman, I noticed you neglected to mention From Russia with Love in the list of sixth generation bond games, please could you review it along with Everything or Nothing? Many thanks I enjoy your videos
My overall opinion of 007 NF (console version): The developers did a wonderful job making the game look sleeker and cooler than Agent Under Fire, but totally destroyed the feeling of shooting that 007: AUF did so well. The guns lack any feeling of punch and power with little-to-no rumble feedback and there are no hitmarkers on enemy bodies meaning that YOU CANNOT TELL WHEN YOU'VE SHOT SOMEONE, it's as if you're shooting ghosts. NF did increase the difficulty greatly over 007: AUF, making it much more rewarding to beat on 00A difficulty, but then again the platinum rewards are all just multiplayer skins. 007: NF's multiplayer mode is also a shadow of 007: AUF's, lacking dozens of features that added variety and additional options. EDIT: As I watched this video I realized that your shots do have hitmarkers, it must be a gamecube version-only omission.
Such a classic game. Back when we had tons of awesome games coming out but still didn't quite know which was better cause we couldn't play all of them. I replayed this a few months ago and had to stop cause I was stuck on that under water level where you're in your car. I gotta go back and try it again.
My favorite thing about your reviews is your recognition of the most critical attribute of any game. Fun. While I get it's subjective, few reviews or reviewers even reference fun. It does not matter if a game is a work of art, has high production value, or great mechanics, I only care how much fun a game is. Thanks for that.
I remember on consoles (not sure about on PC) this game had a pretty awesome arena-match mode that you could play solo with bots. I loved that you could just have some random carnage on a multiplayer-type map with settings that you could tweak, like AI difficulty, weapon spawns, enemy types, etc. If I remember correctly there were drones you could set up and pilot remotely, controllable guided missiles, and other cool shittt.
This was the very first FPS game I ever played on the PS2. So many hours spent in it, and a lot of good memories. I went back and played it again recently. It's lost it's charm, but I'll still remember it fondly.
Or you opinion is just different from this reviewer's opinion. Just because he made a video and all about it doesn't mean that his OPINION is the absolute truth. Enjoy the games that you enjoy.
You know, there is one console FPS that feels absolutely awesome and is blazing fast in spite of an apparently least suitable controller. Outrigger, on SEGA Dreamcast. By the SEGA arcade machine division AM2. You should definitely give it a try, it's very unusual in its design decisions.
Some differences I noticed in this when comparing the console versions is that the game on the Xbox version ran as smooth as the PC version and some of the cinematics were in game instead of pre-rendered.
I did a search on the number plate. It is indeed attached to an Aston Martin Vanquish. But - if you look past the SORN and MOT expiry and low mileage data, you'll see when it was first registered - 11th April 2003. The film was made before this. The only logical thing I can think of is that it was late registered and the VIN tallies up with 2001/2002 and most likely a reserved number plate later applied as a "private" plate.
Thanks for this video! My rose tinted glasses just shattered xD Granted, I remember playing the PS2 multiplayer when I was a kid with the extra controller expansion and myself and 8 friends would play this game on 2 tvs. GREAT FUN!
NOSTALGIA, I remember my dad and Uncle Playing the Multiplayer constantly, I also Remeber Being horrified by the Blood rolling down the screen effect in the Iconic Intro.
This on GameCube was the first FPS I had ever played. In SOME respects, it's still one of the best I've played, and split-screen multiplayer with custom rules was bloody fantastic. Still remember staying up all night with a friend just playing capture the flag. The two of us versus however many bots would fit on the other team. Fun times.
Love the review gggmanlives. I remember this game at blockbuster and rented it a few times and enjoyed myself. Out of curiosity will we see more reviews of other jame bond games?
I've started playing the GC version using Dolphin on my PC ;). At any rate, I do fondly remember the PC version of Nightfire. It was different for sure. And yes they stripped the vehicle levels. However, what I feel made up for it was the fact that Nightfire on the PC had online multiplayer. I just view them as different versions. Nightfire for PC is certainly not as bad as the PC version of Spider-Man 2.
6:00. This is only the case if you don't do the Bond move. You can access a fuse box to knock out the lights and easily slip past both of those guards when they go to investigate it.
I absolutely love this game. I have only ever played the first 5 missions though. What I love about this game is the multiplayer. I had a lot of fun playing with my dad and brother.
I remember waaaay back in the day when my PS2 was broken. I couldn't play Nightfire anymore. One day when I was out and about I saw a copy of Nightfire for PC. I begged and begged my parents to get it for me, and they finally decided to cave and do it. Oh boy. Even when I was 10 years old, and when the PC version of this game was actually stable and playable on modern PCs of the era, this game pissed me off. As soon as I saw that it was completely missing the totally badass Paris section at the beginning of the game, I uninstalled it. I was beyond pissed that the PC version was so radically different. I honestly can't believe it was able to be marketed as the same game.
Ahhh, nightfire. Me and my brother played the shit out of it when we were kids. Good times. I also notice that for the time, the PS2 version had some pretty good animations on the goons when they got shot ( ties not being glued on the their suites when they die, etc).
Loved this game. Yeah the shooting wasn't too great and the levels weren't the strongest but it's pure nostalgia that makes me love it. I remember being 7 years old playing this game on New Years Eve to line up with the Paris mission. Plus, the optional bot multiplayer kept me entertained for many hours, as I didn't have any online gaming experience back then.
good review, I enjoy Nightfire, my biggest gripe with the game is Bond's running speed is too slow for my taste, I had good memory's playing the MP with my friends, but when I played the MP recently, I got annoyed you couldn't run faster, it really destroys the experience because back then I wouldn't have taken notice, but after playing games like TimeSplitters, Quake and Unreal, its a game that could have at least benefited from a higher run speed
You just got yourself another subscriber. Your accent is extremely clear and easy to understand. It's great that you cover all the major aspects of the game. May I ask what part of Australia are you from? (assuming you're from Aus)
I grew up with the Gamecube and GBA versions. Looking at the PC version here, I actually didn't realize the GBA version took so many of its different gadgets and level designs from PC.
I played the pc version a lot when I was younger, at the time I didn't even know that ps2 version was different. I absolutely enjoyed it but now I see how much better the console version is.
I agree; this game has aged terribly. I tried playing the console version recently, and the clunky controls and lack of checkpoints made it a chore to go through. Everything or Nothing is definitely the best Bond game of this era, though I do feel compelled to check out Agent Under Fire to see how that one compares to Nightfire.
I still think this game holds up the best out of all the bond games. The story doesn't hold up as much as I remembered it. Just going back to playing them again out of nostalgia. Cheers to my first video game as a kid
Maybe its nostalgia speaking, but I remember I really enjoyed Goldeneye: Rogue agent, althought it did have flaws. I distinctly remember the final level being a massive pain in the ass because every enemy had that 1 shot laser rifle that was impossible to dodge. The multiplayer was pretty cool though, the Bridge and Funhouse map from golden gun were expecially memorable, and it was cool how you could use parts of the map for kills such as activating the G-force machine on the Space Station map and watching as your friend helplessly get smashed to pieces by the machine as it spins around.
One thing about the stealth sections (at least on GameCube, but should work on PS2 as well), you can punch the guards and they'll NEVER get back up again. Best part! You won't fail the mission.
I've been trying to play through all the bond games, i can get my hands on. ( I've watched all the movies as well) I can safely say that this is probably the best of the none goldeneye fps games. The campaign's always good for a quick run through and the multiplayer is right up there with goldeneye and it's remake in terms of fun. Concerning rogue agent, i should probably play through the gamecube version again. I throughly enjoyed the campaign, so it confuses me when people bash it. The multiplayer in that one is amazing though, like holy crap i can see people not liking single player, but everyone loves splitscreen. Too bad the sequel got cancelled, they could have buffed out the campaign issues and expanded the splitscreen and made something really special. Adding drivable vehicles like they planned would have been a great addition
I had a lot of fun playing this game back then on pc. Not to mention my inner Lavery was delighted at the x-ray googles that showed all the girl's underwear... Did you know the x-ray skins were actually modeled apart AND colored? When I was doing screen captures, the softwares kind of messed with each other and the screenshots came colored, not with the blue tint...
I agree that Timeplitters is the only FPS console shooter that got the controls right. Yet some people have a tendency to say that they're what's aged most about the series.
this game shined in the multiplayer. all the gadgets and cool guns like a guided missile made it really fun to play
Helis and tanks mate
I fucking bullied my brother by camping and using the guided missiles on him in this game. Good times. Eventually he started whining about my tactics and begged me to stop, wasn’t my fault he couldn’t win.
Indeed mate when I was in school me and a few of my mates used to play multiplayer and just used to work together slaughtering hundreds of bots was just great fun.
Absolutely plus the mini tanks and choppers fun multiplayer I’m sticking to goldeneye as number 1 in multiplayer but nightfire is definitely number 2
Wouldn't it be "shone?"

PC version ran like shite imo. Far uglier than the console version, the weapons were clunkier, and the level design - as you said- is ass.
@@ac8911 I do love the weapon design in the PC version a lot better though, the P99 fits the game a lot better imho.

Nighfire in splitscreen multiplayer on the PS2 kicked ass. Even on smaller TVs it was pretty fun, though it was mainly an explosives spam fest.

My goodness, It's as though I heard that intro music just the other day. But it was 13 years ago!
I love how you said "voiced by a real Australian" at 2:10 as if you guys are some kinda mythical creatures:) love your review, as is always the case.
Multiplayer was the best part by far, had so much fun on that one snow map with the ski lift that goes around the map.
God have mercy on us, a whole ten minutes without checkpoints?!?!?!
Yes, a whole 10 minutes.
Man, I've been hoping you will do an Escape from Butcher Bay review for years. I'm actually surprised you haven't done it.
I like the fact that you can play older games and enjoy them for what they are. I want to get quake 2 for my ps1, even if I own the PC disc.
Man I remember the hours spent playing the multiplayer of this on that map with the gondola, or was that the previous game?
good review, I enjoy Nightfire, my biggest gripe with the game is Bond's running speed is too slow for my taste, I had good memory's playing the MP with my friends, but when I played the MP recently, I got annoyed you couldn't run faster, it really destroys the experience because back then I wouldn't have taken notice, but after playing games like TimeSplitters, Quake and Unreal, its a game that could have at least benefited from a higher run speed
You just got yourself another subscriber. Your accent is extremely clear and easy to understand. It's great that you cover all the major aspects of the game. May I ask what part of Australia are you from? (assuming you're from Aus)
Thanks!
I grew up with the Gamecube and GBA versions. Looking at the PC version here, I actually didn't realize the GBA version took so many of its different gadgets and level designs from PC.
Oh man... flying around with that grappling hook and hours of hours of killing bots 👌
007 Nightfire for ps2 has to be my favourite james bond game ever hands down
I played the PC version when it came out and i remember having lots of fun with it
I only played 2 James Bond games Quantum of solace and Blood stone.
I would really like to hear your review on 007 Legends.
The mp on ps2 was great! One of the best mp games!
I never had this but played soooo much of the multiplayer at my friend's house as a kid
I played the pc version a lot when I was younger, at the time I didn't even know that ps2 version was different. I absolutely enjoyed it but now I see how much better the console version is.
PS2 James Bond game review by Gggman? FUCK YES!....GoldenEye review soon Gggman!
One of my first and favorite GameCube games :D
I actually did not mind Goldeneye Reloaded at all, it reminded me of these games alot and how much I've missed them.
Bad review. Didn't even talk about the multiplayer on PS2. The best multiplayer game on PS2 easy.
Aadolf That would be Timesplitters 2, sir.
The Useless Channel close contender
Does Timesplitters 2 have Sentinel rockets? No? Argument over!
Have to agree, the multiplayer on this was legendary, literally whenever I had mates over it was this or SSX Tricky. World class.
'scuse me, 'scuse me, Perfect Dark coming through
I agree; this game has aged terribly.
I had this game on Xbox, one of my favorites growing up. It was such a classic!
Ohh man i hella remember playing this game back in the day on multiplayer i shit you not it was soo addicting it was crazy ohh man the nostalgia
The only bit you need to remember about this game is the Co Op Bot Mode with the RC Vehicles and if you've never played it...well you're dead to me!
One thing about the stealth sections (at least on GameCube, but should work on PS2 as well), you can punch the guards and they'll NEVER get back up again. Best part! You won't fail the mission.
It is on xbox too. Best. Tactic. Ever.
Spent countless hours playing multiplayer either with myself or with my cousins, but Agent Under Fire had the best multiplayer.
You just have to do a review on Bloodstone, or Blood Stone, whatever it's called.
I miss this.... My childhoodddd 🥺... dbz on tv and this game on my pc
hey i remember this it came with the PC when my dad bought it 14 years ago xD
I agree that Timeplitters is the only FPS console shooter that got the controls right. Yet some people have a tendency to say that they're what's aged most about the series.
Nice review mate!! Hope to see more Bond on your channel lol
