    excuse my stupid question, but isn't a Low Kv motor better suited for Rc Crawling for more torque and low speed during crawling manoeuvres?

    • @RockyTop_BC
      @RockyTop_BC  Рік тому +3

      Absolutely! Good question. The size of the motor somewhat puts a limit on the kv available. These low kv motors were designed for aircraft. Larger propellers turn slower. So the larger motors tends to be lower kv. This why the fastest jeep with the biggest motor has the lowest kv. I had to make up for this in the transmission ratios.
      Crawler- 1,000kx at 32:1 is a very fast walking speed
      Crawler/Basher -1,450kv at 24:1 is twice as fast.
      Basher - 800kv at 7.5:1 is almost twice as fast again.
      The friction in the 32:1 ratio also helps keep the crawler from rolling back. Why use these motors? Low kv.

      @@RockyTop_BC did you considered making a brushed motor setup? And for the basher setup, would be there an open diff option in the future?

    • @RockyTop_BC
      @RockyTop_BC  Рік тому +1

      @@ripmax333 I can look into both. I have a few modifications/upgrades that I am working on. Open diff for the front is on the list.

      @ripmax333 Рік тому

      @@RockyTop_BC that would be great! Because with the basher setup it can also be used on high grip surfaces and also indoors.

    This is great - I like using timing belts with 3d prints. Might have to make this to go with my new SCX24.

    • @RockyTop_BC
      @RockyTop_BC  3 місяці тому

      I have fond that the belts are a lot stronger than regular gears. The gears put all the stress on one tooth at a time while the belts divide the stress over almost half the teeth.

    Impressive. What material did you use to print?

    • @RockyTop_BC

      Thanks! Every part on these two models is Inland PLA plus. It is the best China filament that I have found. The US/Canada filaments that I have tried are to soft and deform over time. I am am slowly switching to Prusa blend filament. Prusa filament is expensive in the US but getting more affordable.

    How long did it take u to print the whole thing and how much does it cost total if u already have axles and a motor and esc

    So I have been building the thumper. Haven't had an issue with it so far except for when i got to the axles. when setting the bearings. it cracks the housing. How much should I scale the print for the bearings to fit properly. other than that I am enjoying this project.
