I love that part with the double bass
I like the part where he goes dububububububububububub with the kicks

@@Yogibo-rp8ff what are you talking about?
@@Yogibo-rp8ff you good?
I quite enjoy the part when he repeatedly and relentlessly hits the bass drum using his double bass pedal with great speed
(if you want to rephrase this further feel free to do so)
John longstreth is one of the best technical death metal drummers on the planet.. hands down.. he makes it look so fucking easy it's ridiculous.. so smooth, and flawless.. amazing stuff man.. killer video.. thanks for sharing..
he is also a super nice and down to earth dude.
the drummer of my band couldn't make it to their concert a few years ago, because he had an accident and broke his wrists.
after the concert I was talking to john and he even recorded a short video to send it to my drummer, wishing him the best and to get well soon. just a super nice dude!
DoctorKloebner Now That’s Freaking Awesome!
I am not even into this type of music however, I love watching John. No denying his mastery and grace. He doesn't even break a sweat. Insane!
That's the key!!! To let it go and let your body take over, not mention the years he has been doing it makes it that much smoother. 🤘
2:21 Stick yeets itself out of John's hand, and he casually grabs another one without missing a beat. Absolute legend!

nico Mvp An Origin set without Saligia is not a good Origin set
MrHikkikomori maaaan true. With Swarm would be even better
Mr. Longstreth is a God in his own ways and the extreme / avant community. In the drumtalk vid of him he showcases briefly his playing chops and hand control on a practice pad. His machine precision like playing style and constant snare hits that tie together remind me of a very seasoned marching band snare drummer /m/
I love how he improvises literally on every song
Yep. A true musician.
It’d be 10,000 times harder to try to play the original note for note due to how many little details he puts into each song.
My fave drummer. So composed and relaxed.
gotta check out car bomb too then!
Longstreth never gets tired cause he is always sitting down. XD
He's fat too
Underrated comment XD
@@behindthen0thing525 but he is important and you are not :D

i was here in the front row. John has always been a phenomenal drummer. just a machine! hes so relaxed when it comes to his playing.
Agreed. You know you're a good musician when you can make something really difficult look easy
i saw origin front row one time
it was absolutely insane!!
Too bad he died in a wood truck accident in Russia. RIP John
Finally, good audio and good angle thanks!!

I miss hanging out with these guys, john is a great friend of mine. we played a lot of shows in the Albany area. long live Origin and The Terrestrial Sphere days!!
Thanks man! Watching him switch between left and right hands so easily on everything, especially the blast stuff, tells me I've got work to do.
Truly a sight to behold
Great video, thanks for sharing !!!
I miss watching this guy every night
15:13 - Expulsion of Boogers
Insane music demands insane drummers! Mr. Tsunami 😎🤘I love John's work with Angel corpse - phalejulah song!!
My first instinct is "this isn't drumming its a ultra-fast conveor belt of percussive taps" but then I remember how disappointing it would be if Origin used a drum machine. This is obviously impressive.
Those double rides on Cascading Failures always satisfy me so much.
John is an amazing drummer and a damn fine gentleman.
He's also a brainwashed leftist
the band is trying their best to rip the ass of metal but the crowd... the most chill crowd I've ever seen on a metal gig
ORIGIN !!!🤘 👹🤘🔥🔥🔥
flawless double strokes technique
Gosh, he makes it look so easy!
Best of the best
2:20 when your drum stick flies away from your during the FIRST SONG on a gig. it simply couldn't hold up with the tempo...
John is part cyborg or some shit. Pulls this fast paced technical stuff off and doesn't appear to be even be trying
Wow didn't know that guy, sick monster !!!
That place does have an perfect acoustic!!!
An acoustic what?
@@behindthen0thing525 acoustic is a common noun. It refers to the audible property of a certain room. When you say a room has good acoustics it usually means the sound in the room mixes well. Good presence.

Anyone else remember the campaign he ran about 7 years ago for an instructional DVD? I donated like 60$ for a dvd and shirt and he never made it! What a jerk
I also remember getting ripped off about $60 on that Indigogo campaign. I won't say anything negative about the dudes playing as clearly he can shred, but his character and reputation is another. Metal drummers from around the world lost about $13,000 and we are not the richest people ever. Also, when you think of the extreme metal fan base, I tend to believe there are a lot less fans of bands he plays in.
From what I remember he got screwed over during the editing and wasn't happy with the quality so it never got released. Shame as i'd have loved to see a copy
Dan Danby while then pay back the supporters or release it as is. I'm still out $60 even if it would have sucked
beyondbetrayal I have no idea why. Just letting you know what I seem to remember happening. An official statement would have helped to clarify what happened i agree
Dan Danby that's not our problem that he wasn't happy with the editing, he needs to deliver on his promise!
Very confused, when he's controlling the hi hats with his left foot and left kick pedal is moving at same time, is he stepping on both pedals at once? Obviously when he plays left double kick only the hi hats do not move, so I assume they're not connected.
I've played drums since 10yo. Now Im 29 but still cant understand how is that possible. Holy.... !!!
I know that feel bro. Same exact situation here, literal.
I’m 40 and have been playing drums since I was 7. I can match Johns speed but I can’t hold it for as long as he does. His heel toe Double Bass Technique is flawless!
Determination
I love how clean ans flawless he is...u can hear every note he is playing perfectly and it never sounds sloppy or jumbled up, he's a goddam machine
Calling him a machine would be an insult to his musicality
I like part with the blast beat
Disciplined, masterful, tasteful.
This man is groovy and brutal as Hell. He could play for Infant Annihilator.
Puke. No one is trying to play for that programmed shit
2:20 Drops his drumstick
If you look closely, you can see he actually throws it away ;)
No shit
Fawk John Longstreth one of my influences, he plays those drum fills so smoothly flawless performance 🤘, did he go back using axis pedals?
He did! There's even some quiet talk of a JL Edition pedals around the campfire.
Music starts at 1:55
The only band I would want to have a backstage pass to. Just so to witness him playing live up close.
Does anyone know the snare and head he uses please?

Hi. Shot by iphone 7 plus only? Any other apps involve in editing?
Yeah. Same phone they recorded their last album with
axis percussion! eee cool!)
Alexander Pryakhin yea he started out woth axis, went to demon drives and is back with Axis! Axis is the best
The Erratic Drummer, John was using heel blocks from ACD Unlimited for his Axis because his pedals had backlash. Now he's endorsing ACD Unlimited. Top notch pedals!

Hey, so I know I hear what sounds like double bass but way faster than what he’s playing, is there another trick or someing digital added, surely you guys know what I mean
Double strokes. No trickery.
Ronson-san what are double strokes though, his feet look like they are doing normal double bass like a Metallica song or something but the double bass sounds twice as fast.
Ronson-san I UA-camd double stroke technique, I get it now. Thanks.
Heel toe technique. For every single stroke. It's two hits, once with the weight of the leg and the second with the fulcrum shift of the toe.
He seems like a humble guy
OMG...!
Looks like they upped the catering budget this tour
Chad M wow your moms fat
Of all things to notice in this amazing video of drumming talent you point out the most moronic immature shallow thing that means absolutely nothing. Great job idiot. Go back to watching Keeping up with the Kardashians.
Anyone have an idea what he's doing to close the hi hats on those blast riffs? It doesn't look like he's moving his heel over to grab it...
Geworfen Heit I saw them on the 16th and got him to toss me one of his sticks! Believe it or not but he uses the front of his foot while he blasts. The hats are so tight that you only hear the "chick" when he hits them, but he's constantly using the hi-hat pedal when he does for a few seconds before he actuates them. He blew my mind their entire band did. I've seen over a 100 different bands and them and Fetus are always my favorites. Also, he actually has his hi-hat pedal to the right of his left foot board instead of on the left like most guys (he has one of those fancy hi-hat stand that you can extend the pedal like two feet and place it wherever). It makes his technique easier. To clear it up since it's on the right side all he has to do is move half of his left foot into the hi-hat so he can use both. It was fucking incredible to watch live. They stopped in Oregon with a few of the other bands and did a show outside of Summer Slaughter. Tiny venue so I was literally less than ten feet away from John, and right in front of the rest. It's why he tossed me his stick I recognized him the second I saw him and called out to him. He dropped one of his sticks during the set so I asked for it afterwards. He smiled and tossed it right to me.
Edit- Watch his left foot and you can see what I'm talking about when I say he actuates them both at the same time.
Oh yeah! Now I see it. Thanks man. I've been drumming just a coupla years and the first time I realized that was going on was when Gene Hoglan pointed it out in one of his Atomic Clock videos (you know those boots he wears). Then I started hearing it a lot more, like from Inferno and also somewhere on Abigor's "Fractal Possession" album. And I gotta check out one of those stands, 'cause even the two-legged ones are a bit crowded for my setup. That sounds like it would've been a killer show...love those small venues! Origin is fuckin' awesome to behold. BurnThePope!
Dude is a stud drummer right along with flo
Geworfen Heit Cheers! Glad I could help and I definitely agree with the hi stand remark. Unfortunately I have a three legged one and it's so damn annoying trying to to set that thing up. Never feels "right". The stands are spendy if memory recalls around 150-200 but they are definitely worth it. Oh ya Gene is the man! George from Nile does a similar thing every now and then too, another guy that uses hats creatively would be Kevin Paradis (could have messed up his last name). If you haven't checked him out do so. The dude will be a legend one day mark my words. He's been playing for like five or six years and it's unbelievable how good he's gotten since he started his channel.
It's called "pedal bridging". Split half your foot on kick pedal and hi-hat pedal.
Lost a stick, only lost six, tops. Masterful. Stevie Ray Vaughn shit. Greatest drummer of our generation 🤩
This dude is a fucking well oiled machine!!!
Track list please...
Is he back using axis? Im pretty sure he switched to demon drives for a while
Hes actually using ACD Darwins now

I couldn't help but notice that Jason Keyser is one of the most eloquent death metal shouters out there. He tries to hide it with a few "f*cking"s thrown in here and there, but to no avail ...
in my opinion, he's the greatest double stokes users out there....\m/
I agree... I’ve seen them live 7 times from 2001-2016 and John is damn near flawless. His double bass strokes don’t break up out of time like I’ve heard soooooooo many other drummers do. I’m not saying he never makes mistakes but he doesn’t make many. Plus they play these songs faster live than on the album!! It’s an amazing sight to behold and hear live!
@@bultronlagore2095 he wasn't double stroking until like 08
Wait, when did John switched from the Demon Drives and what is he using here?
Mustis1524 I believe he changed them just before tour. He's using a custom drive shaft as well
I think he´s using axis pedals.
But yeah, on the last video he used demon drives :) perhaps backup pedal or sth.

Jesus. H. Fucking. Christ. Yes, John's technique is insane - talk about studying rudiments and stick control. Of course, his footwork is impressive, but for me, his hands are unbeatable. Above all, is his feel. He constantly adds little things that add up to groove at insane tempos. Not to mention one-foot blasts. Fuck me.
6:22
The intro just reminds me of pink Floyd's time. Just letting the cymbals talk real quick before he blasts off into hyperdrive.

All I hear is "WOOOOOOOOOOM*crriss crisss*WOOOOOOOMM*criss criss*WOOOOMM" Criss criss being the china cymbal accents 😜
2:22 He conjured a drum stick out of the air.
john leg strength :D
Satan is no good kids .
This guy has come a long way now, from being inadequate live with Angelcorpse & being replaced by drum god Tony Laureano.
Instructional DVD was a sketchy and he is beginning to look like nick barker :P
Brandon Perry he's always been like this. Sometimes he loses weight and gains it right back.
John reminds me of Charlie Brown.
Just hitting a note does not make you great. Sometimes it is how you hit the note and you learn the blast beat. And we can do this quicker and harder John.
Wtf are you talking about? If your trying to say John isn’t a great drummer then you are a complete and utter imbecile. If your not saying that then please word your comments better where it’s easier to comprehend.

he is fucking amazing.but soo boring to listen to,every track is the same always blastbeats again and again and again and again...
Drummer from Archspire is faster. Way faster.
Frank Licata jr but sloppy as fuck, and I'm not saying it as a bad thing. Spencer from Archspire IS super fast, his gravity blasting skills are out of this world, but he's lacking on the fill department, and not as precise overall. John is precise as fuck, and his fills are just tasty. Btw, this only my opinion, please don't hate me :(
I like both of them. Saw both of them. John is faster with his feets, spencer with the hands.
Both of them playin pretty accurate and keepin timing.
But i think, john is gettin old...😔
I miss songs like wrath of vishnu, swarm, purgatory...
Spencer is in his best condition...
Maybe its only my impression.
But hey, 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Frank Licata jr what the fuck is that supposed to mean? That he's a better drummer? If yes, then please stfu
Archspire drums sound like shit. The kick triggers are awful.
@@Kyp031 same could be said about johns clicky as hell triggers
2:20 a drummers nightmare number 1, however, his double base playing is fake as shit. I see what trigger he's using to make it seem like it's twice the speed it is
jason byrne The triggers are irrelevant, he’s playing heel toe double strokes which looks like his legs are playing halftime but in reality he is playing every note heard. Please let me know if any of that was confusing, I may have explained it poorly
@@todgym5671 haha, I was waiting for someone to reply with this, I half expected replies believing it lol.. but I know he uses heel toe, I just wanted to see how many people didn't know it and believed it's fake, because I've had endless comments yelling me I was wrong about heel toe etc . Sometimes I felt like banging my head against a wall because I just wasn't getting through to these people.and a lot of people believe triggers are cheating.. they are not at all, they just add sound that you just can't get sometimes from a kit, and they work wonders for recording because they can take up less time for the engineer like myself, I'm a sound engineer/producer.
