Exercises in Futility V is probably one of the best black metal songs ever written until now, and Darkside is a big part of why it's so awesome.
If you don't know them yet, I recommend you to hear Finisterre from Der Weg einer Freiheit. Some of their tracks are like this, with some of the most awesome blastbeats you'll ever hear, and also extremely emotional stuff.

Darkside is arguably the most assertive black metal drummer on the scene.
The perfect balance between the fact that he uses uncomplicated fills and spends many seconds without hitting a cymbal to let the guitar riffs and lyrics stand out & the amazing display of talent that he shows on the main part of the song without actually being abusive or overwhelmingly fast is something that you don´t easily find these days.
Very to the point. Cheers.

I just started learning drums about a year ago, and never knew how intricate and complex metal drumming was. Now I’m hooked, and need to get an electronic set as well. Just too loud to do on my acoustic set.
This sound of drum cymbal chaos makes me feel like I am in a completely dark place and its rainning hot sparkles and drips of fire.
Cymbals are the most metal instrument
You are not wrong.
Yeah, especially in black metal :P
Excellent excellent excellent stick work on that bell and ride cymbal. All while running 16ths on double bass. Look how he has to alternate hands to keep hitting the snare on 2 and 4 timing, switching up if the other hand isn't available. Also if only listening you'd think it was just the same hand on the snare, meaning that he is hitting the snare in the exact place with exact pressure with different hands---THIS IS NOT EASY AT ALL. His snare timing with either hand never lags or jumps the gun. This is excellent work.
Only an ambidextrous person could have that kind of control. Truly a master among drummers
Very very very true. Hits the back beat every time, same sound. That is really hard, the guy is amazing.
Spoke to him before the concert in Manchester last night. Darkside IS ambidextrous. He is also very humble and doesn't think he is particularly good. Thinks their are much better drummers than him. An amazing person and a even more amazing drummers. Also darkside has written some of the more famous riffs too :)
