Dom - Here's one that checks all 3 boxes: Ben Petersen's Civivi Sendy. Pocket clip. One handed opening (really cool in line back flipper with insane action). Liner lock (dead on 50%). The drop point is very similar in size (slightly bigger) than a 93mm Alox. It comes in NitroV (essentially 14c28n) and has tweezers and a toothpick. Pairs great with a 58mm pen model or a SwissCard, particularly for a night on the town. And the fidget factor is off the charts.
First order from Aliexpress! It’ll be a throwback to the old days when you had to actually wait awhile for things to show up! Also a review of utility knives would be great. Love the Olfa ones made in Japan. Great blades
This is something that I have absolutely been looking for, this is a great answer to what Gerber was trying with the Armbar, even if it requires some adjustment to get the bitdriver in the right spot. PS that's the Leatherman T6, not the T4 lol
I may very well try out this Swiss Tech. I was disappointed with the G Armbar, really bad quality. (Being both a LM and Victorinox guy, whilst always looking for another alternative).
For me the perfect sak is the Swisstool, same quality, locking tools and a clip, comes also with oho blades for those that need them. Its heavy but the clip negates that almost perfectly. I think to compete with Victorinox is almost impossible, i got a 83 years old Victorinox and that still works fine but if it didnt they would fix that for me no questions asked.
Great vid!! We all know Victorinox is the king on pocket carry ! I do have the nextool and the swiss+tech, and on my case the nextool is better for the applications I have on my every day. The best about edc is that it adjusts to every user differently. Take care and keep it up!!
I have had the swiss tech around my neck on a paracord necklace for over 2 years now 24,7 and use it almost every day with no problem at all. It has been the best knife I have ever purchased. Why? Because it is always with me when I need it. ;)
Great video. Agree with you about the Screwdriver lock, it would be even better if it had the 90 and 180 degree lock on the screwdriver. I would also add the surge bit adapter thingy for a file and saw. Then add a tweezers in there somehow.
Of course this is your view point, and thank you for that. In my opinion Leatherman in last 30 years is the best. On the other hand when I fly light I can’t have any knife on me so I make my edc tins with sawing , screw driver and plyers only and here comes Swiss tech. Mini but stronger then victorinox plyers stripped of the rest tools ( only flash light left ) and added hex bit end on other side makes me the minimum on board of the plane. So you’re right about Swiss Tech
While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.
I love my Victorinox SAKs because they are so adaptable. Swiss+Tech's latest multitools all have the locking feature and while their finish is very good, nothing beats the versatility of SAKs which I've used all my life, and in my medical job. Nothing beats high quality. It lasts far longer.
Alox farmer with a titanium pocket clip on the ring (this makes is suspended = goodness). Benchmade 710 in the other pocket, Olight S20 in the 3rd and signal in the bag, raptor + cat tourniquet + israeli bandage on the side of the bag. This setup is pretty stable for years, I still use proper tools when possible, but most of the time it's faster just to tinker with a multitool and get things done without moving, without delay. It's all a question of lazyness. This SWISS TECH 11 in 1 is an interesting proposition.
Another good detailed assessment and opinion of what's out there👍 Im still sticking with my Victorinox One Handed Trekker with an optional pair of small Knipex Cobra pliers in pocket depending on the edc potential needs of the day. I'm just One of those folks that hardly ever needs a set of pliers when I don't already have a substantial tool kit with me so I don't often carry a pair of pliers on body for edc.
I recently found your channel and I love everything about this. Thanks for doing all of the work, expense, and sharing this very well though-out breakdown.
You can install extra bit holder on locking end. And using dremel, I made a 90 degree lock position slit. Then put 6mmx1mm round magnets in the bottom of hex hole. so it accepts wiha double ended bits. you can also use leatherman ratchet extender!
I just got my SwissTech and outside of the issues, it's exactly what I needed. My scissors are bent a little making the spring bar slip off and making it harder to close. The main blade rubs when closing too. I sent the Ali retailer a message and will see what they want to do. Hopefully it's just this one. Seems like it was crushed a little or something.
Looks like the Swiss-Tech 11 in 1 tool isn’t available to be shipped to the US. A shame, I was ready to pull the trigger on one (even though I’m usually very hesitant to buy ANYTHING off of Aliexpress)…seemed like the perfect combo!
Looks like a damn close copy of one side of the Ozark trail multiforce. Only difference is instead of the redundant flat head on the multi force, they put in a pull cutter.
Yes, I know these knives. They come from the Chinese company Sanremnu. In a lot of technical details they have even a better solution than Victorinox.... at least in my opinion.
With the exception of the pull tool, that's pretty much exactly what I ended up with when I modded what was left of my Multiforce when the pliers broke. And I put the bit driver on the locking side! Very cool. I share your fascination and consternation with this stuff. Having said that, I've been carrying Victorinox knives for so many years that I don't really "miss" some of those nice features you talked about. Really enjoyed this one. Thank you.
I carry my Ranger mostly for the file and the pull hook. I get great use out of the hook for threading paracord places... Jaw of LM P 2 WOULD work for that, but pull hood does it more "handsomely." YMMV...
I just got the swisstech and agree with your review. Also the one you said is too heavy and doesn't have a bit driver is now available with a phillips that can accept the bit adapter and 1/4" bits. I prefer it's scissors to the swisstech but they don't have a point so I've actually ground mine to a point
I ordered 3 of them right after watching your video. They arrived yesterday. I had intended to use them for Christmas presents. Took one to work today only to find the assembly is much too tight. I tried to loosen it up but stripped a couple of screw heads. Seems like a T9 size with a ridiculous amount of locktite. I haven’t been able to loosen the knife/saw side: impossible to deploy one handed. Hopefully the other two are better assembled. Really love the scales compared to the modded Multiforce.
I really like the form factor of the swisstech/ 1/2 multitool. If they could make it will all locking tools and a T-shank saw, it would be a home run. Wait a sec... can you disassemble the tool and swap the tool orientations and make the 1/4 bit holder locking?! It sure looks like it here 7:07 (edit* never mind, you addressed that a few min later)
For me everything has pros and cons. what we need is a compact and modular system for a reasonable price. I find every options always has something i need, but not everything. Then stuff i dont need taking up space for something else that could be more useful. Everyone has different needs but most options shoe horn you into general options.
What I don't get is why don't victorinox make 1 handed opening tools for the US market? In Germany we need to have two handed (if it's locking). It's a must. Even leatherman made a 2h wave version which I assume is focused on the european market. So it would just make sense for victorinox to do the same for the US market. Especially considering one of their partners, Felix Immler, already made a video on how to make a 1 hand opening mod.
1. The 111mm and 130mm series is both (mostly) one handed and locking. 2. Victorinox starts as an European company and they verge towards European market. European knife laws are very restricted and it would be extremely stupid, from them, to complicate their business model (which relies on industrial stamping sheets tool that can be sold extremely affordable but still being made in Europe, which is a huge plus for the whole world market since European “made in” is a guarantee stamp, even renowned like the Italian one (DOCs and such)) and it would be stupid since they would not sell in Europe, Asia and Australia/NZ as much as their other models. That’s why.
I noticed that as well. If I move it to the other side, it will be be perfect for knife deployment. But I’ll need to punch out a hole to accommodate the anchor tab of the clip.
I just bought this along with its plier tool equivalent and honestly it's astonishing to me how good these off-brand multitools have become. I wonder where they're actually made - Swiss Tech is US based but some of their models look almost identical to the Multiforce and others. I'm thinking a lot of them are coming from the same original manufacturer, I would like to know
ok so i partly disassembled that swisstech because of what you said i could swap it sides🤥 and then, when i had problems with it being disassembled (erased the grooves on the head of the shitty bolts with screwdriver) i decided to look at video where you made it, how easy it was with that bolts and SURPRISE! its actually impossible😮💨. 😡
Hi been subscribed for a while now, really like you honesty and flashlight videos. Bought the SwissTech multitool after watching this video planning to modify it. After I ordered one I saw your short video that it can't be modded as you thought it could. A shame but still looked like a nice budget option. Upon receiving it the drama started though, the clip was a bit loose so went out and got 2 torx 8 drivers to fasten it. Only to find out that the screws immediately stripped on tightening, because they already drove it in slightly at an angle, pre damaging the threads. The Ali express buyer doesn't even respond to my complaint. And now I have the issue I found a lot of other people on this and other videos having issues with quality. I really think its not a product you can stand behind seeing al the issues. Just wanted to let you know since I really enjoy your videos and value your opinions. keep up the good work! All the best from NL
Buy once, cry once. Time will tell. I've bought inexpensive multitools over the years, they have never lasted very long. My Leatherman's and Victorinox's are so well built they last forever.
@Outside the Target Demographic well...I'm all about function...sometimes leatherman wins..and sometimes vic wins..if the spirit mx clip was easier to deploy I'd probably have sold all other multitools by now.
I have two different Victorinox’s but I also have two budget ones, including the Amazon 8 in 1 which I find real good. The Bibury 21 in 1 is a fantastic bargain
wow unbelievable pro tips! you've gone through and tested so many to finally reach this conclusion. thanks! but why does it seem like ruike has discontinued their sak style multitools?
Timely as I was thinking about ordering some Ozark Trails for Xmas gifts, this will save me some mod time. What are your thoughts on the package/belt cutter tool vs the old pry bar from the OT? Can you open a paint can with it, without it deforming the screwdriver flat? Thx
Unfortunately, I have to correct your error in those statements about Victorinox Swiss Army knives and their lack of locking main blades. We know that several of the Larger Victorinox SAK's have Locking main blades, with their lock release button integral with the Victorinox "Swiss Shield" logo on a handle scale - but there is an even better option. No longer available new, the Wenger Evo S557 was made in the same (Delamont) region of Switzerland as Victorinox, to the same - or possibly higher - standards as its rival - with Wenger eventually being absorbed by the larger company. They (Victorinox) continued with some of the better Wenger design ideas under their own brand. The "Evo" series of 85mm, 5-layer pocket Multitools achieved an (Alpine?) peak with the S557 model (known in the USA as the model # 16817) - which included a LOCKING Main Blade. Additionally, this pocket toolkit has a multi-size (stepped) Wrench, Nail-file, Large screwdriver with bottle opener, Scissors, Pliers (with integral crimper), Can opener, Phillips screwdriver - extending straight out from one end, as the best drivers do, Awl, Corkscrew, Toothpick, Tweezers and - in both of mine - the obligatory Micro screwdriver, inside the corkscrew coil. The S557 has traditional red plastic grip scales, though the Evo range also has black "rubbery" inserts for additional grip when wet. I still carry one of the two that I have, almost daily - with an O-Lite LED, AAA single-cell (Lithium, obviously) flashlight in a very compact leather belt pouch - in which I have punched a strategically-positioned hole to engage with the protruding main blade unlocking (thumb) lever and secure the Wenger in its sheath - until twisted to remove. Without doubt or argument, this was and remains up there with the Leatherman Crunch and now their ARC (with mine having its Magnacut blade dedicated to me and signed by Mr. Tim himself) - as the three finest Multitools ever made. Any counter-arguments that you may have to this contention will be considered, listened to, then summarily ignored...
hi buddy, you praised this tool so much that I wanted to buy it, and I did it! Please tell me how did you disassemble it? I can't do it, as I understand there is a thread retainer applied right? He came to me heavily oiled, but the grease is very dirty and I can hear him crunching
so i tried to order this swiss tech from your link. for some reason they were out and when i picked another one they wanted to ship it to Alabama not Ohio. i had to cancel the order because the page went to a language that i don't read. it looks like a nice item that i would have tried but not now.
For those who always comparing the so called "chinese brands" to the leatherman, i think most people dont know about leatherman quality nowdays..i had purchased wave plus recently and i find that when then mtools fully closed, the right and left side are not flush. It seems like either one are not straight. It seems like one of the hinges connecting the plier jaw to the grip were just not accurate, and that might cause the problem. Im quite dissapointed, coz i always expect flaw-less from leatherman as the price were quite high. I just returned the wave plus to the local seller. Thats all
This Swiss Tech 11-in-1 is like one half of the 17-in-1 pliers-based MT. The only difference is the bit driver versus Phillips and flat head s/driver at one end. I'm going to split my 17-in-1 to make a SAK-type knife.
Very good tool! Just an insane idea... but the washers on the sides on the bit driver... could be replaced by the small flat head scredriver? Or the other way around better, so the bit driver + small flat head driver on the locking side, and the rest on the non locking side? Sadly, these kind of tools are not easy to find in Argentina... I would love to try them!
What about the rocktol 12 in 1 ?? What would you say about it compared to this swisstech 11 in 1 ?? I'm gonna buy one of them .. wich one would you advice me to get ?
Great vid! What is the black (appears to be) 5 layer SAK with added pocket clip? Do you have a preferred SAK? I carry the 5 layer "Ranger." I'd prefer one with that tool set plus a pliers, but then they give you silly things like a fish scaler. Not a fisherman, thanks! Is there any other use for a fish scaler than scaling fish?... I love more tools on a tool set, but do not want to lug the weight or thickness sometimes... Ideas welcome...
Victorinox can thank the American Serviceman for making them the global name they are. Comparing my Wave to my late father’s Swisstool there’s quite a bit of up-down play and none in my Wave. Now the full size Swiss Tech at Wally World I’m pretty impressed with. Opens smoother than any other my I’ve ever held. How it stands up to use will determine whether I’m a convert to Swiss Tech.
Hi Domenic, I just picked up a charge XTi and I'm wanting scissors instead of the can opener. You said these should fit and cut better than the Leatherman options. Is this what you would do?
Where can I buy this that is not Aliexpress? I purchased a DL1 from them but now they want me to fill out a form with personal info that I am not confortable with (they don't need my DOB).
Did u ever get to handle one of the Texas tool crafters custom leathermans? I kickmyself for not purchasing one before they were sued out of existence. The gold and ironwood models they did were works of art
Honestly, I've really crapped on the Swiss Army Knife design. For a long time I could not conceive of carrying so many useless tools... Then I grew up. I used to prefer a designated locking knife, but then you realize that you could've used the scissors and file today to trim your nails, or a bottle cap opener, or a screwdriver just all the time. Long story short I've been carrying the Cybertool M from Victorianox for a while but am now looking for a tool that has a file maybe I go with the large or another tool completely.
This is why I've had a vic rambler or manager on my keychain for basically my entire adult life. If I could only have one multitool, one of those would be it.
I realize you do these videos for a purpose. However, you do know there are multiple versions of the Swiss army knife that come from the factory with a locking blade… As for the versions that do not, that is by design not by accident. Because the primary market for Victorinox products is in countries with draconian knife laws that prohibit locking blades. Therefore they design to the specifications that fit within those laws. They have built a company around being known as the standard for a harmless pocket knife that you can carry anywhere around the UK or EU and nobody will bother you a question it pretty much anywhere. That’s one of the reasons they put so many tools all over the knife because it makes it into a tool by definition that just happens to have a bleed rather than a weapon.
@@maxlvledc You ever heard of Belle+Howell tactical pen Multitool? The flash light on it is kind of trash or maybe it's just this one time that I got... I'm not sure about the pen if it can write underwater or anything... But it has a variety of tools on it, with each piece screwing into each other, and some pieces can be out in a different order... It's a great tactical pen for $18 on Amazon and then I'm seeing some "tactical" pens for $80 making Top 5 or 10 lists for EDC tactical pens just because it can write underwater and made of a better material, not very Tactical
Hi Dominic! I have a slightly related question. Do you think it’s possible to modify a Leatherman Free P2 so the blade is non locking (I’m in the UK)? I’d appreciate your thoughts. Cheers buddy 👍🏻
@@charlesheller5767 I’ve never been stopped by the police. The only time I’ve had an issue was when I when was refused entry to a court room because I had a Victorinox Classic SD on me. I think of you don’t give off the wrong vibe, give the police a reason to stop or if you’re not in wrong place at the wrong time you’d probably be fine. However I’m not willing to risk 4 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
Another video where I get enthusiasm about a cheap, good for starters, best value multitool...and of course I'm left empty handed as: not available anymore or it is not 20 but 40 USD, or it is available on Amazon, which means 27% taxes (welcome to Hungary :)) and around 12 % customs. And sometimes the video is 3 months old, not 1.5 years as this one. I start to see a pattern here. :(
Does anyone know how much this thing weighs? I searched the video and though he brought out the scale at the beginning it looks like he never weighed the thing.
Anyone actuall tested the steal on the Swiss tech? In the user manual for 18in1 V2 it says 3cr13 which is a downgrade from previous cr5.. It also noticed that the handle material is thinner on the V2. Im just going off pictures and spec here so any actual testing would be helpful here for future buyers.

There’s one word associated with victorinox and knipex also leatherman that word is stolen.
No matter what comes out I'll always love the original red Swiss Army Knife.
Agreed
Same... unfortunately it doesn't ship to the uk either.
@@sbalget just search it on regular aliexpress

Looks like a damn close copy of one side of the Ozark trail multiforce. Only difference is instead of the redundant flat head on the multi force, they put in a pull cutter.
Thanks for this interesting video!!
Victorinox is still king! But the ruike LD42B is quite solid, maybe worth a video for you?
Yes, I know these knives. They come from the Chinese company Sanremnu. In a lot of technical details they have even a better solution than Victorinox.... at least in my opinion.
@@FelixImmler agreed..love the in-line reamer awl. And the saw is really good on it.
I'm definitely a knife/multitool noob but that SwissTech looks like half of a Leatherman Surge with whatever end of the plier portion just removed.
You should definitely take a look on SWIZA knives - Swiss made, ViX lookalike but all tools are lockable in very smart way
I wasn't impressed sadly
@@maxlvledc sorry to hear it, I haven't still played with one, though...
I’m lovin’ my home made Multiforce knife! It’s works great and it’s awesome! Thank you! 😎👍🏻
Here is the thing even if there is the perfect tool for me ( a knipex based multi tool) I still plan to have victorinox in my rotation
I really like the form factor of the swisstech/ 1/2 multitool. If they could make it will all locking tools and a T-shank saw, it would be a home run.
Wait a sec... can you disassemble the tool and swap the tool orientations and make the 1/4 bit holder locking?! It sure looks like it here 7:07
(edit* never mind, you addressed that a few min later)
Victorinox lacks locking, pocket clips one handed operations, and a durable plier. that being said i still use them alot.
For me everything has pros and cons. what we need is a compact and modular system for a reasonable price. I find every options always has something i need, but not everything. Then stuff i dont need taking up space for something else that could be more useful. Everyone has different needs but most options shoe horn you into general options.
Ding ding!!
Maybe we should get together and start a company doing just that.
@@hdrider2071 have you seen the GOAT tool?
@@maxlvledc Everything on GOAT Tools website are sold out.
That’s why.
wow! I thank the algorithm. This video is exactly what I was looking for. thank you sir
edit: for some reason they don't ship to Italy
Lame!!! Hmm, what apps can ship there?
@@maxlvledc aliexpress generally ships to italy without any problems, but for this particular items it doesn't ;(
Seems like the pocket clip is also on the wrong side for a right-handed person.
I didn't even notice that!
I'm thinking a lot of them are coming from the same original manufacturer, I would like to know
They’re made in china.
Yep, make the bit driver locking and put the pocket clip on the saw side.
Purchased. It looks really great. I'll swap out the sides when I get it. Thanks!
Doesn't work sadly.. at least not without grinding tangs
ok so i partly disassembled that swisstech because of what you said i could swap it sides🤥 and then, when i had problems with it being disassembled (erased the grooves on the head of the shitty bolts with screwdriver) i decided to look at video where you made it, how easy it was with that bolts and SURPRISE! its actually impossible😮💨.
Big shame...quality control is what's holding these tools back imo

wow unbelievable pro tips! you've gone through and tested so many to finally reach this conclusion. thanks! but why does it seem like ruike has discontinued their sak style multitools?
I didn't notice.
In many countries in Europe one handed locking blades are illegal to carry around, where the Swiss army type knife is not.
Are you in the US? I tried ordering one and saying can’t be shipped to this Country
The second two items locking blades and one handed opening would make them legal to own in many countries including mine
Enjoyed this very much. Thanks. Excellent analysis.
Dominic, is the Swiss Tech available at your store?
AliExpress only.
Timely as I was thinking about ordering some Ozark Trails for Xmas gifts, this will save me some mod time. What are your thoughts on the package/belt cutter tool vs the old pry bar from the OT? Can you open a paint can with it, without it deforming the screwdriver flat? Thx
Hmm, I honestly don't know. Both have their good and bad.
Very nice multi-tool
This very much reminds me of my nextool but this may be a better version. I only paid £14 for the nextool so a bargain regardless.
£? You mean the let Brits on here? We love you guys. Thanks for "sponsoring" US. Wish I'd gone more places when I was there....

Hi Domenic, I just picked up a charge XTi and I'm wanting scissors instead of the can opener. You said these should fit and cut better than the Leatherman options. Is this what you would do?

What's the best Most In One multi-tool? Like it has the most amount of quality tools on it?
Victorinox swisstool.
