Decked Storage System - Toyota Tundra Overland Rig Build

  • I recently installed the Decked Truck bed storage system on my Toyota Tundra. My truck bed used to be an organized mess, and it would be hard to reach further inside due to the low placement of my bed rack and rooftop tent.
    Now with the system installed, I am able to utilize the truck bed storage area without having to climb inside the truck bed.
    I will provide some regular updates, as well as go over additional features over time in future adventure trip videos.

    You can add a foam liner on the lids to prevent water intruding in ammo cans. Nice rig

    LOVED the intro!!! Fantastic drawers! Wish they made small ones for Jeep Wranglers. Instead of a hot water bottle, we like using the HotSnapZ on Amazon. You can recharge them by boiling them (we do that after making coffee in the morning). Then we can use one for hands and start 3-4 at night in our sleeping bag before bed. Also we can have a few ready if we get cold in the middle of the night.

    Between those drawers and that RTT, it's enough to make someone want to get a truck. :-) I really like this setup, it makes a lot of sense, especially how the drawers maximize the use of space allowing you to have that streamlined mounting position for the tent. The lack of dust inside those drawers is impressive. Everything in my car is coated in dust from last weekend. EVERYTHING.

      softroadingthewest I can see you in a truck 😉. By the way, yes. Dust was everywhere inside my cab as well! I think it was during those driving shots on trail 1 😉🍻

    The ammo can lids, corner pocket lids, have cup holders on the bottom side. Flip them over, and put them back on the pockets and you have drink holders.

    I have a 2019 Pro Tundra with a shell on it and live in Arizona, so when I get to camp or home I take my battery powered yard blower to the back of my truck before I open the shell and tail gate.

    I am beginning to like this system the more I see it. I’ve seen where folks are building wooden drawers etc. On an absolute budget, it makes sense. However, long term I could imagine wood that would rarely see the light of day and gets wet often (assuming no cap or bed cover to prevent most moisture) would rot, even treated wood at some point. My biggest issue though is sacrificing half the bed volume (I have 5.5 bed on my CrewMax as well) and gaining back roughly 30-40% of that loss in storage. Oh the trade offs lol!

    • @KrokemOutdoors
      @KrokemOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      Matthew Husted is way it depends on your utilization of the truck bed. If you need vertical space, then yes, you’re sacrificing, but bed space horizontally is actually gained because you now have a flat bed without the wheel wells sticking out! And for my needs, I definitely find it sensible since I don’t have to crawl in towards the cab any more 👍

    • @stedvet
      @stedvet 4 роки тому

      Edward Shin Good point about the usable space above the wheel wells with the elevated platform! Ironically, storage is a problem on our trucks. Have you put in the rear floor storage? I have it on my truck. You cut the carpet out and place the unit. There’s a locking one as well. By the way, love your channel and that iKamper too!

    • @KrokemOutdoors
      @KrokemOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      Matthew Husted yeah, that is on my list of “to do’s”! I don’t understand why Toyota doesn’t do that from the factory. But definitely something I want to have done . And thank you 🙌

    So I see you don't use bed stiffeners. I was looking to add some if I did a bed rack. The black bars that run across the bottom of your decked system under the drawers. What are they for? And would you consider removing them if you were using bed stiffeners. You are running really close to the set up I want to run but I would want to run a taller rack and was worried about the bed integrity while the tail gate was down and some one in the tent moving around. Ty for your time and vids.

I looked for a video on it but couldn’t find one. I see it hooks into the track system...can you still use a tonneau cover with it? Any details you could provide would be great. Thank you!

    That storage system looks like it’s plastic. Any reason you chose plastic instead of metal? Are you going to get a modified front bumper with a winch?

    • @KrokemOutdoors
      @KrokemOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      Jim Lee yeah it’s recycled plastic with steel reinforced beams. To me this is the best route since I do not want to worry about any possible corrosion.i also tent to throw loads onto the truck bed and this material appears to be able to take that type of abuse. I definitely have a bumper and winch combo in mind for a future install 😉👍
