  • In today's video, I show you guys the latest modification to my Tacoma bed--my NEW DECKED drawer system! I am definitely excited to have this in my truck, as it's quite the improvement over their previous system, now with a single drawer, open sides to stash stuff, and integrated D-rings. Let me know what you think about this one-big-drawer system in the comments down below!

    It's good that the Decked folks finally decided to try to optimize the bed space. There really is a lot of dead space in their two-drawer system. One thing to keep in mind is the two drawer system might be better if you have things that you want to keep locked and also things that you want to regularly access. With two drawers, one can stay locked and the other one can remain unlocked and accessible.
    Thanks for the video. Interesting stuff!

    Now this makes sense. I was turned off by the inefficiency of storage space between the 2 drawer system. Access to the front and back of the wheel well was a big concern. The tie downs are a must. I am actually seeing this in my 3rd gen build. Bravo 👏 👏 👏 🤙🏽

    Bought a used 21 access cab trd offroad and was looking forward to using the bed. Came with an extended height camper shell so i left it on. Then i found a dude on craigslist near me selling a brand new deck system for 1200. Had to do it and im glad i did. Its pretty rad!

    I like the new drawers alot, but, going to be selling my old ones and not going further because the entire bed space is still something I find myself needing the full bed way more often and the limitations from the height are the biggest drawback for me.

    • @MidnughtMerauders
      @MidnughtMerauders 27 днів тому

      With a bed cap is where it’s most limited imo. You’re taking away about a foot of height from what you can carry

    • @SpencerHogg
      @SpencerHogg 27 днів тому

      @@MidnughtMerauders 6 Months later update - I sold my Drawers (for about $900), and have been enjoying the entity empty truck-bed. I just have different needs, the Decked is sweet, but I like having the full flexibility, + having a cap or a bed-rack/ tent/ limits it more. Now I can keep my RTT on the back + transport lawnmowers, bikes, kayaks, and when I do go off-road I toss a box of the recovery essentials in the back, and when I go camping I toss a couple Pelican / Plano boxes with the gear and I'm off.

    Pros/Cons to the new system. Obviously a much better use of space and improved design. However, I work with the tailgate down and use it as a working platform, so I don't like having to clear the entire tailgate off before opening the drawer. With the 2-drawer system I could still use half of the tailgate and access the other drawer. I used it frequently in this way, keeping at-hand items in the smaller drawer and rarely used items in the larger drawer. Really comes down to what you're using the system to store.

    It's not the best looking build for the taco but I do think the final form for my use would be this drawer system with a hard top canopy. I don't think I could install a drawer system like this and lose the bed capacity without a canopy to make sure I could still put gear in the bed and have it be (mostly) weather proofed.

    I aso made the move to a single drawer. One thing I have struggled with is where to mount Rotopax since it gets so close to the bed rails. Wonder what you did (if you did) to mount the cans? My bed bars (CBI Offroad) lean in and I cant get a molle panel on them. So working with Rotopax to figure it out but we are getting to a strange config to mount them under my bars! Hanging down? Will see how that works out.

    Chloe, is it possible to rotate the 110 V outlet in bed 90 degrees, so the hinged cover opens towards the front of the truck instead of upwards. This sure would go a long way to making it easier to access it and plug into it when needed. Just a thought. Thanks for all you do.

    Pausing halfway through. Thanks for this video, Chloe. I have a question: With the open sides, how it that weather tight? Couldn't water ingress near the tailgate opening and work its way back towards the wheel wells? They claim its weather proof but I am not understanding that aspect of it. Maybe its just when used in conjunction with the stash boxes.... please clarify if you can. I have a cap over my bed, so this isn't an issue for me, but still something I am curious about. My order is already placed and I can't wait to get it in. Thank you.

    I get production models are used to save money. Making everything the same with as few differing parts possible is cheaper. But, having a Chevy midsize truck, that means that this one big drawer wastes 10 full inches of space between the wheels wells. I noticed there was 6" to 8" inches wasted between your wheels wells.
    I personally would much rather have that wasted space in the middle between two drawers. Make no mistake. This was done to cut cost, not to increase space or increase options.

Installed the Decked system on 2023 Tacoma but the top deck is slightly bowed downward and hitting the weatherstrip in the center area, not at the ends at all. Just installed the Diamondback on the ‘23 Tacoma. Love it so far but am still considering a slide platform only … have seen some plywood builds. Do you have any thoughts?

    I need my bed space, that is why I will not install a decked drawer system or a bed cover

    I like her. Even though I prefer Nike over Underarmor. O forget wish to have big brain like Chloe.

    I would need a taller system to carry chainsaws and other equipment.

    Honestly why didn’t you get a Subaru Outback wilderness package? Subarus are the safest cars. Better gas mileage as well. And for what you do in terms of off roading the Subaru would have sufficed. In fact, in stock condition it will out do the Tacoma.

      😂LOL. It is her money and it is her preference. People do things they like because not because it is economical but because they like the way things are. Why do you feel so vocal about what she should do with her money?

    because of the one BIG drawer I'm not actually considering the Decked system. I didn't like the old system because you lost just too much bed storage space before.
