My oh my Vera, it sounds like Christian needs a couple of beers and perhaps some Schnaps - he needs to chill... Love the channel and listening to Christian whilst watching Vera... sometimes she even gets a word or two in ...
Christian…. In another couple of months, you will have THREE Toyota drivers following your channel 😂 I sold my Discovery 4 (to the Toyota dealer) and have a HILUX coming in January. I need the reliability (and less depreciation!) that the Toyota offers, for towing recovered Land Rovers and collecting Defender chassis’ in the course of my business. I can’t be doing with a broken crankshaft 250 miles from home, with a fully loaded trailer…. but I will continue watching your channel - great job!!
@@TrevorCuthbert 😅👍 We just got back from the French side of the western Alps. All the local drive Toyota down there, now I know why there are none here in Germany. We just might go down there again and buy a Toyota one day. 😃🙋♀️ Vera
Well, no 'yes buts' in this response!!. That was a brilliantly delivered lecture on vehicle semantics, people in Land Rover are now probably looking at their feet !!!!!!, LOL. Thanks for the entertainment, take care, Cheers.
For 4 years I have not changed the appearance of my Discovery 3. I think it is much more beautiful than the Discovery 4. It has its own style and character. Great, emotional episode 👍👍👍
Brilliant session! Particularly agree about the looks, when I see another D3 I automatically assume they are an enthusiast as the time has long passed where they are owned by non-mechanically minded people, now they are much rarer to see - it's probably a 10:1 ratio of D4's to D3's in the south west of england
South west of England resident here from Exeter way. Absolutely adore my early 2009 D3 HSE. It just does everything I need it to do so well. I also love tinkering and maintaining it too but maybe that's the mechanic and enthusiast in me. Great video @ LR time!
😅👍 I know that. When he bought the Discovery in 2016, he wanted to sell my Freelander and have me drive his hand-me-down Mercedes C-Klass. I really had to batlle him on that one, thank god I won. 😂🙋♀️Vera
im a Toyota van driver for 20+ years and yes they are reliable, but im bored with them now, i have since fallen in love with the discovery 3, my friend just bought one for £4000. it is absolutely beautiful. i have started watching you peole to see if i can learn to work them myself, keep up the good work. Brian
Thanks Brian. Hope the Discovery 3 works for you. Not sure if there are many Toyota drivers who bought a LR3... You may be the only one on the planet. Christian
Man, I love your videos, honest and trustworthy! Keep it up, from a discovery 3 owner from Canada that uses its truck in the trails, where it's designed to be!
Oooh. Due to my bad English, after all I’m British, I thought Christian was saying Mole Crawler which I didn’t know what it was but likely something Americans do with their 4x4s in the woods. Now I know it’s Mall Doh!! Loving the videos from you and I think that they are not only setting the entertainment bar very high but they are also my favourites. 💕
hilarious! fun to watch. really enjoyed. I even love your German humour. 🤣 and: finally somebody who tells the truth about the looks. LR3 beats the LR4 by far. 🥴🤣 greets from Vienna

THX for your videos. Right now i own and use LR Defender 110 for my trips and to be honest im thinking about buying second offroader for my trips. After watching few of your videos I made test drive in LR3 V8 and felt in love. My plan is to bring back defender to stock and buy and equip lr 3 for my needs. Keep good work and have a great time with your cars!
😃👍 You are going to love it, especially the air suspension. But I actually really would own a Defender 90 in addition. Might have to do some convincing 😅🙋♀️Vera
Very informative another great video from Christian thank you Vera for making my ownership of my lr3 more liveable and understanding of the character of the engine thank you xx
there are some Toyota drivers (like me - land cruiser and old Lexus GX460) that LOVE land rovers but did not buy one because they are not mechanically minded enough. I love your UA-cam channel.
Brilliant episode. My LR3 2.7tdi has a power tune with egr delete. The engine sounds great and launches amazingly. 373,000 kms. My kms are 9.7lt around town.
Hope ours will go that long too. We do everything to maintain it properly. Thanks for your comment. Ours takes 9.5 confirmed L/100km if nothing in on the roof. This is pretty good. Our LR4 takes more like 10-11 but I push it a bit harder because it is so much fun. Christian
❤ I am a loyal subscriber. My freelander 2 SD4 is now approaching 300 000km. Service every 10 000km and when I get back from a long overland trip as well. Just love it. Always wanted a discovery though 😂.. just to get it off my chest.. I was once on a trip through remote Namibia and a pretty new Disco 4 had broken down. Felt so sorry for the family and especially the kids. 😢
Haha so funny. Another Excellent video, thank you Vera and Christian. I've got the Discovery 3 and now 15 years old. I love the car and is probably the best car I've ever owned and the most enjoyable to drive.
Another great video. I have written a similar rant when I 'upgraded' to a D4 from a D3. A few points. I have had a D3 auto for 8 years and a D4 8 speed for 4 years. Both now are around 300,000km. The D3 has had a rebuilt gearbox and torque convertor, and the D4 has had a rebuilt engine due to crankshaft failure. Crankshaft failure is more prevalent in the 3.0 version. You mention that the EGR are more complex in the 3.0 litre. Maybe, and they are certainly a different design, but 3.0 EGR do not cause problems like the 2.7 EGR do. I agree that the are paddles are pretty useless off road. But you are not making a fair comparison as your D3 is manual transmission. Other than for engine braking, the paddles are not needed. I just had a whole weekend off road in Spain and it was in D 99% of the time. The HP8 transmission is superior to the HP6 in every way. Also, they just don't break. The D4 is 10% more fuel efficient, like for like. My D3 has given 11.36 l/100km over 218,932km. My D4 has given 10.39l/100km over 186,307km. This was a major consideration when I retired my D3 from work and replaced it with a D4, that, and I no longer trusted the gearbox. 110,000km later, the crankshaft snapped, but hey, I'm not looking at my feet, the D3 towed the dead D4 from central Brittany, France to Kent, UK for a rebuild. The D3 does look better, inside and out. The D3 front seats are better, so much so I swapped my D3 driver seat in to my D4. That fabric SE spec seat has now had my fat arse on it for nearly 600,000km, and it's still not torn anywhere and still the best chair I own. The grab handles on the head rest are a must too, if you camp in the back like I do. I tend to drive my cars for maybe 12 hours a day and the quietness is a bonus. I still look back at both cars when I park them, and I love them both. I prefer the look of the D3, but I prefer the drive of the D4.
Hello Russ, sorry I just get back to you now, but we had been gone for a couple of days on vacation. What you have to remember ist that this is UA-cam , and we are not sponsored in any way, we are not out to please anyone, but to report what we like and don't like about our cars. We get so so many questions, daily, about which Discovery to buy. And at those are these type of videos mainly aimed. Not at guys like you, who have already made their educated decission on which Disco to drive, and who actually know what commitment it takes to drive a Discovery. But I am glad you watched it and took the time to give us your feedback😃👍🙋♀️Vera
Best Christian Vera and Mr. Schrauber. In LR Time's latest video about the 5 ways the Discovery 3 beats the Discovery 4 Christian mentioned about upcoming "major repairs". I immediately thought to mention this video by Altblech-shrauber to LR time. When looking for this video, to my surprise, i found you are already in contact.😃 I had a 2005 Discovery 3 HSE, which I bought from a dealer in 2009 - full service history but far from perfect due to an owner who did not care. The body off frame work was one reason I sold it. I also maintain and repair my own cars, and your channels inspire me such that I want to buy a discovery 3/4 again. Keep up good work. Much appreciated!👏👌👏
Yes we always comment him, we really like his content. Christian tried to convince him to do his videos in English, that way his content would reach way more viewers. 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Thanks Vera. I think even english captions would be great, although I can follow what he is doing as I can recognise some German words with his videos. P.S. I think it is through LR TIME that UA-cam proposed the Altblech-schrauber channel. I subscribed immediately.
I've been following you for quite some time now. You are excellent , very meticulous, you pay attention to detail. You made me re-new my faith in land rover vehicles. EVERYTHING that you say is valid. Don't worry about the Toyota people and the people leaving negative comments. They probably never picked up a wrench in their life and they are jealous of your knowledge. Keep making excellent videos. You are so good at what you do, I would like to take a flight to come to germany and meet you. In any case. Nothing new here. I believe amongst other people , the germans and the british are excellent engineers. You are both excellent people. And you have a sense of humour too. Who said germans don't have a sense of humour ?
I love how you positioned Vera with the Sun in her eyes...so you could claim "I didn't see you giving me the stink eye" for all the rambling. Plausible deniability...very clever. :)
Christian, I imagine you already did go on for AT LEAST another half an hour but Vera kindly did some good editing! Sunday evening would never be the same without LR Time. Good to see you lowered the seat belt top mount Vera, much safer.
As a recent arrival to your channel... Fabulous in many ways.thank you.. You two, your humour and the topic. Which is cars and loving particular ones for the X factor rather than any logic. from a non Brexit Brit , also embarrassed about JLR longevity! 🇩🇪
Thank you Christian and Vera. One of your best videos! Much of which I agree with you. I have a 2005 (2.7 litre) Discovery 3 S and a 2010 (3 litre) Range-rover Sport SE. Both are automatic and both have the 6 speed lever operated box. We are having a few problems getting fuel in the UK right now and we have just returned from a 500 mile round trip. Because the Discovery 3 had more fuel in it at the beginning of the trip, we were forced to use this vehicle for our trip, which it did to perfection! Its Launch is very good and it will drive very happily all day at 2 0 more miles/hour than it should be. Remember that our Range-rover has the 6 speed box, so launches well. But according to the computer its fuel economy is about 3 miles/gallon better than the Disco. However it is much more of a bumpy ride and because the engine noise is reduced, does promote more “Oh my God” comments due to the increase of rattling sounds from inside the vehicle. Despite the horror stories we hear, together with the guilt your videos cause because we don’t maintain our vehicles as well as you do, our 16 year old Discovery 3 is and has been an incredibly reliable vehicle. What other 16 year old vehicles would you be happy to use on a 500 mile round trip, without having to worry about it? As regards Toyota - v - LR, there is only one brand of vehicle, no matter how old it is, that will go anywhere in this world, including Buckingham Palace WITH PRIDE. And it isn’t the Toyota!
👍 We also just went to the Alps, almost 1800km round trip, without any issues. Now I have to got to Berlin next week, alone with Philipp, I hope my car will tread me well 😅🙋♀️. Our on board computer is almost off by 1L/100km. We always use the actuall data, liter tanked/ km driven to calculate the diesel consumption ( well, we use an app). 🙋♀️Vera
You guys are hillarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 BUT also incredibly entertaining and impressively intuitive and technical !!!!! Found your channel 2 days ago and have watched a lot of your recent videos, AMAZING job with Fabio's engine rebuild, Very impressed!!! I had a 2.7TDVS HSE D3 for a few years, the most expensive car (for maintenance reasons) i have ever owned..... But i loved it to bits!!!!
Vera is a Saint your a lucky boy Christian love the vids thank you guys . I bought bought mine as a retirement thing to give me a few bits to do it hasn't disappointed 😌. Handbreak job ,driveshaft bolts (previous owner didn't fit new bolts carbide drilling broken out broken bolts)Changed belts and oil pump as a long summer l don't need yoga classes just a chiropractor sometimes .
Despite driving a 76 Series Toyota Land Cruiser, I still love watching you guys, and yes I do have more respect for the older, less blingy Land Rovers!
My friend. I am currently driving a 1992 disco with 450000 on the clock. Lots of problems. However I have had more Toyota's than you have had hot dinners and every one of them but an old 60 series has failed in a spectacular way. If you know the weakness of a vehicle you can make it work! Thanks for your time and hard work! Regards Ben
An excellent piece of belly-aching, surely surpassing Jeremy Clarkson in its wit and persistence to the bitter end! :-) Well done! I suspect Vera is one of those who finds life, the universe and everything slightly ridiculous and continuously amusing and sees Christian simply as the local representative. I found out that the two thing you need to buy BEFORE a buying a LR is a decent battery charger (to keep it on charge when at home) and a battery pack (to start it when the battery goes flat anywhere else). There's so much electrical stuff on it that you simply don't need but which some focus group said 'Oh yes, that's be nice . . . and that . . . and that . . . and . . .' etc. A very informative and enjoyable channel. Thank you.
I love my 22 year old Toyota Alphard. 2.4ltr petrol. I do my oil and air filter every year. I totally agree that my channel would be sooo boring. I love this channel and I'm considering a Range rover or Disco. I like the 7 seats in the Disco but I'd like the luxury of a Ranger Rover. I want to be able to do all repairs on my driveway and give my car some love.
Just subscribed. Excellent channel. I've had my D3 for 12 years now (it's 14 years old). Just re-calibrated the suspension this weekend with my new IID tool. I love my D3 :)
Absolutely 100% on the looks. never liked the blingy look of the 4. That said I like the seat comfort on the 4. So, would like a 4 with 3 exterior as it is a perfect piece of architecture from day 1. I love my l322 supercharged rangy, but am tempted to sell my lx470 lexus land cruiser for an lr4 that I would modify the outside to look like lr3. Thanks for your rant Christian as I concur. And thanks to Vera, you are a saintly co-conspirator for your husband. BTW you could disable the paddles Vera and trade cars with Christian. Keep up the great content and looking forward to your nxt maintenance adventure ~ Roger
Hello Roger, I played with the paddle shifters on my way to work today and they are fun on the road. I could maintain 2000 rpm and then the torque is right there. I think I was to harsh on this function. Christian
A great video as always. I totally agree about the looks thing !! I drive a 15 year old Toyota LC120 but the design goes back to 2002 and its much better looking than the newer models 😂❤ loving your work as always 😊
Loved my LR3and it's design (much better looking than a LR4) for me was near perfect but too many major problems made me think at 103,000 miles about upgrading to the latest 2016 LR4 I could find however lack of confidence in the LR3 and Land Rover generally led me to a used (but only 12,000 miles} 2016 Land Cruiser with full MFSH and I love it and drive with a renewed confidence - Toyota service is very good providing a 10,000 a year mile warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles at reasonable prices. Sorry guys really enjoyed your videos and wish you well.
Evening Vera and Christian. I could listen to going on for ever 🤣 I would never unsubscribe to LR times 👍🏻 Vera is so cute sitting there and hardly understanding like me but I still loved it 😍 Take care until the next video cheers Stevie x 😘 for Vera for being patient lol 😆
Geniales Video. Danke sehr! Hiermit bestätigt einer der beiden Toyota Fahrer (fast) alle Aussagen 😅 . Der Kanal ist eh' abonniert. Alles Gute weiterhin und schöne Grüße aus Rumänien.
Wow fantastic rant Christian, but I have to correct you on the best soundtrack from under a landrover bonnet, my mildly tuned td5 10p, 190bhp & 400lb ft of torque is like an angel singing on a Sunday morning. But you're right in not changing a D3 to look like a D4. It's like D2 Owners who change the headlights on a preface lift model, why ! You just need better bulbs 💡 Rant over, keep the videos coming & the queen's butler is loving all the attention from you 👸👨💼
@@wolfgangchristian4743 Yeah but Arnold Schwarzenegger is also so passionate. We lived in the USA the entire time Schwarzenegger was Gouverneur in California. 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Happy New Year!!! LOL, only just started watching you guys for a couple of weeks and am already hooked :) I loved the engine rebuild and learnt so much from it! I have a Discovery 3 2005 "Cat D" write off as it was 6 years ago when bought it and repaired it.... I'm no mechanic but I love the vehicle and you are right it seems to be an addictive passion to keep the car going !. My wife has just bought a Discovery Sport as a replacement for our Disco3 but I'm now going to sell my old 2005 Mercedes to keep the Disco as my main car. as I've invested so much time in it. Recently fixed a "bing-bong" due to a drifting steering sensor (replacing many components along the way :)) Anyway I recently had the cambelt replaced but our local mechanic didn't replace the serpentine belt or oil pump belt stating it wouldn't do any harm if they broke anyway :( since watching your engine rebuild and the worry about the oil pump and lack of oil this is now worrying me. How easy is it to replace these belts and I'd tend to replace the oil pump at the same time? I've not managed to find many videos on youtube to date but would really value your advice... Anyway keep up the great work I've nowhere near your expertise but it definitely keeps me excited and pushes me to maintain my own Disco (y)!!! Cheers BoB
Better write me an email. If you have the original pump in a 2005 and had now the timing belt replaced without the pump, I would not start the engine anymore. The pump casting usually fails right after replacing the tensioner. It just happened to Outback Discovery here on UA-cam. Your mechanic should not have replaced the belt without the pump - if it is still the original non-reinforced pump. By now any LR mechanic on the planet should know this. Replacing the pump is about 1-2 more hours work than just replacing the timing belt. The serpentine belt does not destroy anything if it fails but it still leaves you strandet and it’s only 25$. Now it will be 100$. I think you need a new mechanic 😳. Christian
Brilliant. Now this is what I call a car review. Great info especially the section on Toyota. However, the 4.4 V8 in the LR3 does not have the timing chain problems of the 5.0 LR4, so the LR3 4.4 V8 is better. Also I've read it is a bit smoother. I totally agree with you that the LR3 looks better. It's a cleaner look as opposed to the bling look of the 4.
That is what we meant, even the LR 4 V8 is not an improvement over the LR3. Ever since we watched one of the latest Trailrecon videos, we call our LR4 the Mallcrawler, but only because we have both in our driveway.😅🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Hi Vera 🖐️, don't worry actually my daily/work/off-road vehicle is a LR3 4.4 V8 with almost 230k miles and still strong besides the punishment, the one with the 5.0 is my Jaguar XF who share the same engine with the LR4. PD: I Love the channel ✌️✌️
Love your videos guys, could listen to Christian all day. He reminds me of a slimmer version of the awesome mechanic in Transporter 3. Have had my D3 since new (build 2009), no signficant mechanical showstoppers thus far, still going very nicely with 309km on the clock! Changing out the electronic handbrake module in a few weeks, will cost about A$1,700 for the part, and ~$700 for the labour. Happy to hear any alternative thoughts on that scenario. Like how you've maxmised the sunshine in your D4 with 3 roof windows!
I’m still contemplating whether to buy a Discovery 3, a 4 or a L494 RR Sport for my next steed. You guys are great, love your videos - it’s nice to see there are some people elsewhere who love these British vehicles as much as lots of us here in the UK do! 🇬🇧 🫱🏼🫲🏽 🇩🇪
Im a Range Rover L322 (BMW TD6 engine) driver. 170, 000 miles with zero engine Or gearbox problems so far. Love the channel, love your attitude and have-a-go mentality. I find with Land Rover you either have to have deep pockets Or the ability to fix it yourself and enjoy the task of doing so. If you have neither of these attributes you buy a Toyota.
The GM auto transmission fitted to the L322 with the BMW six will require repairs sooner than most other autos because it was undersized for the torque outputs from that engine. Sorry to say, but it's a matter of time, not if but when.
@@joeypineapplez You have a good one then! :) I have the very same GM auto gearbox in a first generation BMW X3 3.0i (the one that most people can't come to terms with, with regards to the headlight design)
Great video, agree on keeping the original D3 style, including head / tail lights. But I did recently upgrade my D3 internal lights to LED, and that has been a welcome improvement, much clearer than the old dull globes.
So agree Christian with your comments re driving an old D3, it feels cool! I do get comments and I like the purity of it's looks. I bought a brand new one in 2005 and kept it for 6 years, and recently have just bought a poverty spec (coil springs) 2005 D3 and loving it!
Well Christian and Vera, you can expect a flood of Christmas cards from Toyota but you will get none from JLR! Probably anyone who watches this vid will be turned off from ever buying an LR vehicle. However, should they buy one, having absorbed the knowledgeable information you have provided, it’s a case of caveat emptor. As for me, I’m happy with my extremely reliable D2 V8. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻🙏🏽😷🦘
😳 oh, you think so? Sorry. We love our rovers and we would even buy a new one from LR. They are just too much money for us. We don’t want to turn people away from LR. Christian
Love your videos! I have been looking to buy a 2015-2016 SDV6 for some time and watching the prices increase over that time. Think I'll include the TDV6 in my searches from now on and the LR3s as well. Been driving a Muscedes (MUSSO with Mercedes running gear) 2006 for several years and wanting to drive a vehicle with some refinement now albeit that the Muscedes has never let me down. You both have certainly given me some sausages for thought. Thank you!
I still haven't replaced my Disco 3 since it was written off back in June due to lock downs, however I was contemplating a D4 but after watching your video I am not convinced...keep up with the entertainment.
Yes, his work schedule is so demanding right now, we just don't have the time to do any meaningful workshop content right now. But a lot of viewers are really looking forward to our videos, so we tried to do a 'babble video'. And he has so much more to lecture and preach 😅. Thanks for sticking with us during those times. 👍😃🙋♀️ Vera
I owned a 2007 LR3 V8 with the HD package and a 2015 LR4 Supercharged V6 with the V8 block. the 15 LR4 is finally the car that broke me and I will never buy a modern Land Rover again. 36K miles and they never could fix the suspension or electronics. But my 2000 RR P38 with 238K miles (NOT KM's )on it is my favorite so far with the LR3 as my second, it was a beast off road. BTW this is an epic rant and watching Vera giggle at you is about the funniest thing I've seen.
I've been saying the same thing about reliability for a while now. If the 2.7 doesn't snap a crank or spin a bearing (which you have a pretty low chance of doing) it's actually a really reliable engine - 330k on my MY08 and barely anything has gone wrong with the engine apart from usual things like water pump and the plastic crossover pipe on top of the engine. Hotter climates (Australia in my case) see that piece fail more often. I've also installed the upgraded oil pump as you have. There are other factors that cause failure in the 2.7 - the timing belt tensioner bolt is only torqued to 24nm but I've seen the results of mechanics actually using a rattle gun to do them up - snapped bolt 500km later. Also the oil filter comes out with the housing cap, but if you install it back the same way you will destroy the engine as you are not locating the bypass in the filter housing as required. I specifically bought the 2.7 as in Australia we have the Ford Territory SUV that uses the Land Rover single turbo version of the 2.7 Lion diesel. Can buy a wrecked one with low KM for a pittance. That was my hedge.
Brilliant, and I agree so much. Simple is better in the long run. Don’t forget also it is almost guaranteed the 3.0 will crack the intake manifolds which never occurs on the 2.7. An expensive repair. Point 6 you missed is the stock wheels are 18”. For off road and sand driving this is much better with better tyre choice. 19” inch is a backwards step for the D4 and now here in Australia owners buy aftermarket 18” solutions. Crazy. In city driving the brakes of the D3 are perfectly ok. Point 7 - the lower spec SE of the the D3 is perfect simple and stylish without the bling extras of D4 which is like a RRS. The centre console design is more practical in the simple version. Point 8 - unpainted black wheel arches, look better and are more appropriate for off road. Point 9 - the 2.7 has an oil dipstick
Thanks, I agree. I forgot about the 19“ rims. They make the tires to hard even for on road driving. The no-dipstick issue was serious for us as shown a view videos back. You scare me about the intake manifolds. My D4 leaks oil in the area of the Upper Right Hand cylinder where the tandem pump is mounted. So this could be the valve cover 😳😳😩😩? Body color Painted arches suck. I got them. Mall crawler look. Advantage is, they can be coated easily. Thanks. Christian
My mate sold his D4 purely on the fact that it didn't launch fast enough even compared to his D2. He always felt like it was about to stall or just not go quick enough out of junctions or islands and he lost confidence in it even though he had it from new. Lost a fortune on it when he sold it but he doesn't regret it. Great video and awesome rant. So glad you actually like LRs lol.
Another good video Christian & Vera. The question you don’t answer though is “if the Toyota’s are so reliable, why don’t you see lots of old ones when you’re out driving?” Answer, “nobody cares enough about them to keep them running!” That and rust of course!
😅👍 Here in Germany, Toyota offroaders and overlanders are just not commonly used as daily drivers. You never, ever see them on the road and we do not have any contact with Toyota drivers. 🙋♀️ Vera
I know you don't have much sun in Germany like we have in Australia but it makes me nervous seeing you facing into a bright sun just I think to show us you do get some sun up there where you are.. We never do that in Australia our sun is quite dangerous for us.. Thanks for a really entertaining video.. I do like my D3..
I feel exhausted after that! Still here though, great channel, everyone needs a rant now and then. I prefer my D4 over my D3, I do a lot of towing, the D4 is in a class of its own with a heavy trailer on.
Never towed with the LR4. I towed the full 3.5 tons with the LR3. Small gear required when the road climbs. Quite exciting. Sorry to post such a exhausting story. Christian
Your so correct about the symbiosis relationship between landrovers and their owners, after 28 years of Land Rover ownership (and ive owned them all) I went backwards to drive a discovery 2, its totally standard and I have lovingly refurbished the car, the looks I get in it surprise me. I think its because people are surprised its still running. It’s retro cool. its my 5th Discovery 2 and i love it because I can repair it, the Td5 even though under powered by todays standard sounds great.. Im just about about to spend 5k euros to import the car into Austria (nova) and I would of paid 10K! That sort of love for a vehicle would have a toyota owner looking at their feet.. ps. Your so funny.., Mortimer are we in a rush today?! Made me spit out my tea.. Great rant Christian..
Hi Christian and Vera, love the videos, I wonder if you could do a video of how to change auxiliary battery on a LR4 2012, as I keep getting a message saying start engine battery low, l know it's not the main battery as everything checked out OK, look forward to seeing how to go about it, keep the videos coming 😀
Hello Leslie, replacing the drive belt is easy but I made a special wrench for holding the pulley wheel of the cooling fan. You can buy this wrench also for 30 Euro. See our video here: ua-cam.com/video/XiYWQjJZiM4/v-deo.html @ Minute 20. The thread is LH! It can be really stuck badly if it was never open before. Also check out this video from Outback Discovery: ua-cam.com/video/Fd25k8rT8tI/v-deo.html Also apply anti seaze to the thread. I don´t think the belt is slipping. You would hear that badly. Check the charge voltage of your alternator using a OBDII tool. It should be above 14.5 Volts at all times. Check the ground connection to the engine (near right hand engine mount) and the alternator terminal as well as the battery terminals. All must be free of corrosion and thight. Battery must be above 12.5V before start or it is not optimal. The brushes of the alternator are replacable. See this video here: ua-cam.com/video/1_-Lw1D9EaE/v-deo.html Towards the end. Its german but you will get the point. Christian
My disco 3 is 17 years old still original with only 1 update in the centre console, I fitted an aftermarket android radio kit with a fiber optic MOST adapter kit and rear view tucked away camera, all cables neatly tucked away, looks standard fitted plus some light between the seats and in the footwell, people look at my car all the time.
Excellent comedic value loved all your insight into your Landrovers I think you should have just bought Vera another "3" and you kept your original one Christian saved all the purchase cost difference for the repairs or upgrades ( not disc 4 lights though😂 ) I bet your glad Christian didn`t give you the 4 aren`t you Vera
That was actually the plan, but could not find one under 180000km. That's why we bought, the cheapest, most discusting LR4 in all Germany with less than 100000km. It had 80000km on it then. 😃👍🙋♀️Vera
My oh my Vera, it sounds like Christian needs a couple of beers and perhaps some Schnaps - he needs to chill...
Love the channel and listening to Christian whilst watching Vera... sometimes she even gets a word or two in ...
Christian is just really passionate about that topic 😅👍🙋♀️ Vera
Hilarious, Christian on a rant about a product he actually likes, can you imagine if it were a product he disliked 😂 Vera, patience of a saint 😇
😅👍 You are absolutely right about that🙋♀️ Vera
😃🙋♀️ Vera

Brilliant vid you guys, had my D3 since new in 2005. Maintaining it myself all the way! 275K Kms and still going strong 👍😊
Well, you are certainly one of our heros. 👍💪👊😃🙋♀️Vera
I have 2007 D3, only Thing I added was 19' inch alloys and I changed the front brakes from D4/RRS. Great cars
Neither have I. I just love my LR3 V8 HSE... I sometimes look at it and just smile
Me too 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
I’m a Toyota driver in Australia and I love LR Time.
Brilliant session! Particularly agree about the looks, when I see another D3 I automatically assume they are an enthusiast as the time has long passed where they are owned by non-mechanically minded people, now they are much rarer to see - it's probably a 10:1 ratio of D4's to D3's in the south west of england
D3 has all the features I need, every model after this has more... More silver trim, more electric things to fail in 15 yrs, ?
things rust over there, chassis of 3's are rust free here in Au
@@stuarth43 they are indeed, I use lanotec on mine after every Fraser Island trip, still looks like new in chassis area
South west of England resident here from Exeter way. Absolutely adore my early 2009 D3 HSE. It just does everything I need it to do so well. I also love tinkering and maintaining it too but maybe that's the mechanic and enthusiast in me.
Great video @ LR time!
The early discovery 3 looks like a proper 4x4 ! I didn't realise the Germans had such a good sense of humour ! Another excellent video.
Great fun ! I think Christian should be an advisor for land rover design team ! Really..... thanks 😊
That, Christian and Vera, was a cinematic classic that would make Alfred Hitchcock proud. Encore!

What a pleasant surprise, thanks for the mention! 😂
Vera asks “why am I having your hand me downs”
Response “ let’s do a UA-cam video, you are actually having the better car Vera “😂😂 I like your style
Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian at least i will be smiling😀
Again, a fantastic video! Love how you can substantiate your opinon in such an elaborate way. Not at all hurt by the video as Discovery 4 driver.
😅👍That's great🙋♀️ Vera
Man, I love your videos, honest and trustworthy! Keep it up, from a discovery 3 owner from Canada that uses its truck in the trails, where it's designed to be!
We took ours to the trails of the French Alps last week too.🙋♀️ Vera
What a well argumented rant!! Vera is the Queen of patience :))
😅👍 When he ís in his lecturing mode, I better not stop him. Well, lecturing is not the right word, more like a positive and passionate rant 😂🙋♀️ Vera
and: finally somebody who tells the truth about the looks. LR3 beats the LR4 by far. 🥴🤣
greets from Vienna
THX for your videos. Right now i own and use LR Defender 110 for my trips and to be honest im thinking about buying second offroader for my trips. After watching few of your videos I made test drive in LR3 V8 and felt in love. My plan is to bring back defender to stock and buy and equip lr 3 for my needs.
Keep good work and have a great time with your cars!
So how was the drive in the LR3 V8?
😃👍 You are going to love it, especially the air suspension. But I actually really would own a Defender 90 in addition. Might have to do some convincing 😅🙋♀️Vera
Very informative another great video from Christian thank you Vera for making my ownership of my lr3 more liveable and understanding of the character of the engine thank you xx
there are some Toyota drivers (like me - land cruiser and old Lexus GX460) that LOVE land rovers but did not buy one because they are not mechanically minded enough. I love your UA-cam channel.
😃👍🙋♀️Vera
😃👍 The older ones, like yours and mine, are just the best 🙋♀️Vera
Fantastic video, I was laughing soooooooo much keep up the great work so enjoyable 😉
Hi can you please tell me which one is reliable easy to maintain d3 diesel or d4 diesel and particularl model
Totally agree about the looks. 3 > 4. I’m just not a fan of those taillights!
Best Christian Vera and Mr. Schrauber. In LR Time's latest video about the 5 ways the Discovery 3 beats the Discovery 4 Christian mentioned about upcoming "major repairs". I immediately thought to mention this video by Altblech-shrauber to LR time. When looking for this video, to my surprise, i found you are already in contact.😃
I had a 2005 Discovery 3 HSE, which I bought from a dealer in 2009 - full service history but far from perfect due to an owner who did not care.
Just passed 400,000km at the weekend in my 2005 TDV6. Fingers crossed for the next 100,000km!
Wow, super cool. You are definitely doing everything right. 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
I think the phrase that Christian was looking for at the end of this video is "Disco smug face " . Keep up the good work guys .
The raw footage was 1:50h. I started to loose my voice towards the end. Sorry for talking so much. Christian

Love you guys, your missus is a saint and always smiling and laughing. Such an adorable couple. Great entertaining content. Many thanks from England.
I love my discovery 3 even though I paid 5 times more in maintenance than what I paid for it but it’s not a common vehicle here in west Texas

Also the 5.0l V8 likes to eat rod bearings and/or crankshaft for breakfast, ask me how I know...

Check out our EPB Modul repair from 1.5 years back. Thanks, Christian

That's excactly our motto. 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
The GM auto transmission fitted to the L322 with the BMW six will require repairs sooner than most other autos because it was undersized for the torque outputs from that engine. Sorry to say, but it's a matter of time, not if but when.
@@tempestv8 Nonsense. People have been saying that to me for years, 170,000 miles later and its still going strong. 😁

Great video, agree on keeping the original D3 style, including head / tail lights. But I did recently upgrade my D3 internal lights to LED, and that has been a welcome improvement, much clearer than the old dull globes.
As i have come to expect , another superb video
So agree Christian with your comments re driving an old D3, it feels cool! I do get comments and I like the purity of it's looks. I bought a brand new one in 2005 and kept it for 6 years, and recently have just bought a poverty spec (coil springs) 2005 D3 and loving it!

Well Christian and Vera, you can expect a flood of Christmas cards from Toyota but you will get none from JLR! Probably anyone who watches this vid will be turned off from ever buying an LR vehicle.

Sorry to hear that you had bad luck with your LR4. Christian
Christian & Vera, as a Diehard LR3 /Land Rover Series IIa, I have to agree with Benny, so True.
Love your show. :)

Another entertaining video guys. Keep em coming 👍

Great video guys! I always like to hear you opinion from Germany!
Very funny indeed! You cheered me up no end!
Another good video Christian & Vera. The question you don’t answer though is “if the Toyota’s are so reliable, why don’t you see lots of old ones when you’re out driving?”
Answer, “nobody cares enough about them to keep them running!”
That and rust of course!
Gotta love you guys, you always make my day ;)
We don't talk to Toyota drivers! We just tow them out.
Very true ❤❤😂😂
Then they tow you home😂
😅👍We would love to get a Disco 2, but as long as they are not 30 years old, we can't own one yet. 🙋♀️Vera

Hi Christian and Vera, love the videos, I wonder if you could do a video of
how to change auxiliary battery on a LR4 2012, as I keep getting a message
saying start engine battery low, l know it's not the main battery as everything checked
out OK, look forward to seeing how to go about it, keep the videos coming 😀
Hello Leslie, replacing the drive belt is easy but I made a special wrench for holding the pulley wheel of the cooling fan. You can buy this wrench also for 30 Euro. See our video here:

@ Minute 20. The thread is LH! It can be really stuck badly if it was never open before. Also check out this video from Outback Discovery:

Also apply anti seaze to the thread.
See this video here:

Towards the end.
Also forgot my millage is 89k
Excellent comedic value loved all your insight into your Landrovers I think you should have just bought Vera another "3" and you kept your original one Christian saved all the purchase cost difference for the repairs or upgrades ( not disc 4 lights though😂 ) I bet your glad Christian didn`t give you the 4 aren`t you Vera
That was actually the plan, but could not find one under 180000km. That's why we bought, the cheapest, most discusting LR4 in all Germany with less than 100000km. It had 80000km on it then. 😃👍🙋♀️Vera
