Ok, and why is that such an impressive feat? Have we lowered our expectations and stadards to the point now, where a fairly new motor still lumbering on is some kind of marvel?? I mean what am I missing here ??

I remember when my dad used to have a 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE when I was 10 years old. Because my dad had the HSE specification it was pretty much loaded to the gills with all the bells and whistles, including but not limited to, tri-zone climate control, heated front & rear seats (which were upholstered in a really nice cream leather!), rear audio controls, you name it!
It also had a DVD player as well, which I don’t think was fitted from the factory as it was actually a third-party Rosen unit, but it was a nice bonus. Plus, its air suspension meant it was a very comfortable and relaxing car to travel in too...

Of course you are..... from the very first letter of the opening sentence it was clear.
My 1953 Series 1 had a canvas "tilt" (canvas covering) from the top of the windscreen frame to level with the tailgate. The rear canvas panel was laced into place and one only had to lift up the rear canvas and toss the kid into the back with the dogs.
The gas tank was under the driver's seat and it really did go anywhere. My last LR was a 2005 Range Rover and I spent more time in a rental car than it.

Bibin Kumar yep and in the long run Jeremy was wrong as there are more discovery 2’s on the road than the d3’s. Far better looking and much easier to maintain and the td5 is the best engine Land Rover ever used/made.

I don't like any german SUV. Seriously, you can say anything you want about their performance and everything but they are all so damn ugly in my opinion. To be honest, i don't like SUVs in general, but the german ones really take the cake for ugliness.

Yeah the Range Rovers are lovely! And I had a Supra for 5 years. All it ever took was some petrol, tires and the oil changed. I have a Pajero at the moment because my Land Cruiser was stolen, only thing that ever went wrong with Land Cruiser was the injectors but that was just a little copper ring that wears away, minor fault.

    Anthony,
The original was not called the Defender in the UK. The Series 1 was the first. I had a Series 2 "Safari" also (full roof rack and "12" seater - who were they kidding!) and used it as a rescue vehicle with the RNLI and drove it over the frozen sea at one point.
Trivia - first Land Rover had the steering wheel in the center (1948 was the year I think).
