Wow. I'm really surprised a company that makes sliders just told everyone how to make their own for alot cheaper. I own the carbon slider and I love it. Thanks for the tips! Go Rhino!
Rhino never sent me the email with the list of what to get, but in an article I saw it had a picture with the items needed. So because Rhino wont tell you, here is the list: (the image quality was low, so I hope I got it right) Kyle Hart Slider Items Needed: - 1/4” & 9/64” Allen Wrench - 11/32” & ½” Socket - Hack Saw - 10FT ¾” EMT Cut in half - (8) 50mm Skate Wheels & (16) 608-2rs bearings - (8) 5/16-18 x 1.25” Socket Cap Bolts - (8) 5/16-18 Lock Nuts - (32) 5/16” Washers - (1) Simpson Strong Tie BC40Z Z-Max Post Base - (12) 8/32 Lock Nuts - (12) 8/32 x 3/8” Socket Cap Bolts - (12) 3/16” ID X 5/8” OD Washers - (1) Halex 961624 Count ¾-inch EMT Two-Hole Strap - (1) National Hardware 4020BC Slotted Steel Angle 1-1/2 by 36 inch galvanized
Well done! I was looking at a slider dolly system for almost $300. And the I looked at it, the more I realized I could build my own. And the way yours is built and finished, it looks professional enough to bring on shoots. Subscribed!
I just made mine! it is just amazing! you guys are awesome, a company that shows their customers how to build a slider on a low budget, giving them them options without you guys making profit just shows how much you guys care for customer service. As soon as I have the money I will buy a professional slider from you guys. Awesome work.
you guys are killing me, I have thought about building the diy slider, and then I found Rhino sliders! LOL so I was set on just buying a rhino cause I know I could build my own but it would never work as well as anything I could just buy.... and then you come out with this video lol, now I want to build own from scratch again
Thank you very much guys. This helps out very much. I was looking for a DIY slider, that preforms professionally and looks it has well. I'm going to use it for my friends wedding that I'll be filming
Love the premise of the video: lost luggage and replacement slider. Some of my clients call me MacGyver, for coming up with solutions like this. But, odds are pretty good the tripod head would have been in the lost luggage with the slider. Hmmm..... LOL!
I've been wanting to make a Dana Dolly budget alternative and this looks like it'll hit the spot! If I want to make a more robust version to handle more weight, what conduit pipes should I use? I also like that if you travel far distance to shoot, you can just buy conduit pipe at the local hardware store when you arrive on location. Just bring the carriage and end pieces.
Great tutorial, I am convienced to do the slider of my own that way. Have to check what kind of replacements can find out in the local stores here in Poland. Thanks Guys for inspiration and helpful PDF!
Great Video! 3 hours! I try this for round about a year, not finished yet. But you guys give me hope, that I will complete it sometime. Your new Rhino '360 Swivel & Poles for GoPro Camera' arrived a few days ago and I was surprised of the great quality of the material. Great work. Your awesome!
Wow good job guys. I love this idea since i already built alot of diff diy cam sliders ill probably steal your idea and build same one just cause I love to build diy cam projects
I saw this video at 7 in the morning. It is now 9pm and after a full day, I made the slider. Except for how I'm missing 4 wheels and a fluid head tripod. Didn't realize how expensive they are..
Maybe you have already thought about this, but i suggest by me to list this slider in ebay and sell it, many buyer will apply to you and will buy from you this slider if price will be 75 itself cost+25$ (for example) your job cost + 20-25$ for shipping to Armenia (for example my country) + ebay+paypal Brokerage price/cost. i will buy from you with Pleasure! Nice job!
The point of making thee video was so YOU could make it. It wasn't so the company that produced the video could make it and sell them to you, they already make and sell their own equipment.
***** THese guys have a company that sell sliders. Maybe you can buy one of those. Or you can get the parts and build it, it's a very easy build. Cheers
What do you estimate the maximum load being? Could you use a C300-sized camera on here? Where do you recommend drawing the line? Please answer honestly, as I absolve you of all liability in asking this question and won't sue you if the slider breaks and my camera falls to its death. Also, if your recommended limit is only a DSLR-sized camera, could you recommend ways of reinforcing the track and/or carriage to allow larger cameras? Perhaps alternate building materials?
I tried to download the PDF and my computer security blocked access to the website due to a "back door access" malware. Wish I could have downloaded the PDF.
Great tutorial guys, really enjoyed it! What's the best hardness (durometer) for skateboard wheels to use for a slider? BTW You have great taste in movies (Five Obstructions). :)
Hey can u make a video on how to stabilize a rhino steady with a go pro it is really hard to get the timing down right and how to level it out with the weights. U made one with a big camera but I just can't do it with a go pro thanks and try to make it happen
any idiot can figure out how to make a slider. At least...that was my hope... but yours was simple, elegant, and all the work you put into the pdf and video and shopping list saved me hours of doing my own idiot thinking. Of all the DIYs I've seen on this this is my favorite. Except for that compression you have on the mic in the first shot. Made my head hurt. If you have that shotgun going into the DSLR I'd turn off any wind cut or compression.
I've wanted to make a slider that could be extendable, flexible, and smooth moving a camera slowly through a foresty scene, from very near the floor to up in the canopy.
***** thats a good point. I'm just thinking that the head alone weighs in at a at 4lbs. Add in a 5d and a 24-70 and we're already close. Shorter rails should also higher the capacity, i'll try it out after finding all the parts here in europe :P
leolol if you find your camera is weighted to the front because of the lens just counter weight it at the back, maybe a weighted handle i dunno but just counter ballance and this rig would work fine with bigger lens
didn't a get the pdf link go to support and i am asked to open an account.....hate the free shit that isn't really free.......................hassle isn't free, keep your pdf

Great one guys!
I see you guys have a BMPCC on it. Will it support a heavier load like a 5D3?
*****
a question about that.....could the design be adjusted to make it safe for tilted and\or vertical slides
Great hack. Thanks for sharing!

Just curious, what did you use to secure your tripods to the slider?
How was the tripod head attached to the carriage?
Is that the GH4 that you're using for this video? what lenses did you use for it?
Hey guys, I signed up for the newsletter to get the build list and confirmed my email address but never received the link to download the PDF.
Thanks for the response. I finally got it, like an hour later.

It might work, but after more than 1 use, and the total weight of gear you put on it is more than 1kg it will start to bend.
