I think Watchmen is a very underrated film. Definitely check it out again and consider a review on it. Lots of hidden themes and metaphors and true to the source material.
Completely agree. Its my second favorite comic book movie behind Unbreakable.
The directors cut is the only version of the film that should be watched.

It's immensely overrated, and certainly not Fincher's best. That honor belongs to The Social Network (Zodiac is up there too, though).
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a film that needs to be in every collection haha. Great collection though, but I'd recommend getting some more Pixar films. Also, props for owning Taxi Driver.

VideoGameSlang I honestly am at a loss how 2001 can be someones favorite movie. It is excrutiatingly boring and slow paced movie with no characters at all with the exception of Hal (who was to the films credit, pretty cool) the film not having a story also makes it not enjoyable. The whole thing is about nothing.
Also I love this film. I never found it boring. While you might find find the story lacking I think every segment of the film is important. While the characters are weak (except Hal) the story fits together imo. It also inspired a generation of filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, and James Cameron. As I've stated, this is all my opinion. Your allowed to have a different one.
Josef Hautala Hey! I'm glad you're being honest. All film is subjective at the end of the day and so we're not all going to like the same thing and because of that, there's nothing wrong with you disliking 2001. I'm going to cut to the chase and explain why I like it.
Without mentioning the stunning cinematography, visual effects, music score and HAL 9000, what blew me away about this film when I first saw it two years ago was the overall plot, the visual-storytelling methods of the film and the overall experience I felt like I was on watching it.
1. The plot was very fascinating to me. It was so enshrouded in mystery and intrigue that it kept me invested with the film because I had no idea what was going to happen or how it was going to end. I wish more films were just like this. What I also liked about the film were some of the themes thrown into it, such as artificial intelligence, the monolith and the idea of what the infinite is like and what lies beyond it.
2. One thing that impressed me about the film was how Kubrick told most of the story visually, without any dialogue, especially the ending which really blew me away. It felt so inventive and creative to me.
3. Lastly, I loved the film for the overall feeling it gave me, particularly in the final act. 2001 is the definition of an experience film. A film that has a plot but it relies mostly on the experience element. What I mean is that the film is very much focused on creating this journey and experience that immerses the viewer and takes them to another world. That's exactly what I feel like every time I watch the film, mainly due to the atmosphere that Kubrick creates with the film. It is slow-moving, which can be a problem for many people, but it helps me feel like I'm in outer space because of it. It became my favourite film of all time on the first viewing for quite a few reasons, but it was mainly for the last 20 minutes. Not only was the visual story-telling inventive and very impressive to me, it was also how mind-blowing the visuals were. It's honestly the first time watching a film that I had something close to a transcendent out of body experience and it was an absolutely incredible feeling. I felt like I was out of reality into another dimension for those last 20 minutes. I've yet to see another film that truly matches the feeling I got.
Because it is an experience, it's either going to hit you or it's not and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. These films tend to be divisive anyway. Some people see it as nothing happening most of the time, whereas me and many others view it as an experience that you're meant to plunge into and be transported somewhere else and this film really does that for me due to the pacing, visuals, music and atmosphere.
It's a shame you don't like it, but you're definitely not alone on that. I wish everyone could feel the same way I did about it on the 1st viewing, but obviously that's not going to happen.
Hopefully you can understand why me and many others love it. Keep in mind, I went in mostly blind with 2001, but I still ended up loving it. I'm sorry I can't agree with you in calling it boring, but I respect your opinion and maybe you might re-watch the film in a different light because I've heard plenty of people who dislike it the 1st time but end up loving it the 2nd time.
My mother and cousin both loved it too, so as hard as it may be for someone to understand this, people genuinely like it, especially for the reasons I just gave. No problem if you don't like it though. Don't listen to anyone who calls you an idiot for disliking it. That's just wrong.
No worries. But yeah, I hope you give it another shot sometime. You might still not get into it, but keeping in mind what I just said, hopefully you can enjoy it a lot more on a 2nd viewing.
I totally get what you're saying. If you want human characters that you can grow up with and relate to, then 2001 isn't the best film for that. Because I understand that 2001 is more about ideas and creating an experience, it doesn't bother me.

I wonder how he feels about Gladiator, with Russel Crowe. I know Ridley Scott has been getting all Burton-Depp formulaic with Crowe lately but Gladiator is one of my favorites. Also had one of Joaquin Phoenix's best performances as the villain. It wasn't until the sixth time I watched it that I stopped crying at the during it too.
Scott hasn't worked with Crowe in 4 years.

No, actually, I have seen a lot of them, since it's my fav movie genre. For me, everyone of those child actors does as an incredible job. River Phoenix is Oscar-worthy, Feldman gives a career performance etc. If you can name some better ones feel free to let me know.

Chris, did you ever see Django: Unchained? Considering it's a great Terantino film with Cristoph Waltz AND DiCaprio, AND Samuel L. Jackson, I'm surprised that you haven't done a review for it/haven't seen it! Would be interested to hear your thoughts! I am a huge Batman Lover, I still love Batman Forever and Batman and Robin even though they suck, they are still fun!
I agree, Batman & Robin was actually my favourite movie when I was a kid... until I realized that it's actually horrible, but I still have fun watching it :)
I'll give you Batman Forever. That one is ok. However, I can't say that for Batman and Robin. That movie really freaking sucks.

Wow this was 5 years ago and I still love this channel. I just watched this man pull out DVDs for 48 min straight for the 2nd time and was riveted lol. He's by far my fav UA-cam reviewer and he's damn good at it. I look forward to seeing his own feature films in theaters one day.

MaxSmart80 Indiana Jones hab ich nur auf DVD gefunden auf Blu-Ray gab es die nur noch mit so einem komischen andere FIlm dabei der nichts mit Indiana Jones zu tun hat.
Hitchcock gibt es auch nur DVD oder solche teuren die zwar echt schick sind, aber ich will trotzdem keine 100€ zahlen, wenn du was schönes findest kannst du mir ja nen Link schicken würde mich freuen :D
KeeseToast Auf Amazon gibt's die Indy Collection von der Chris redet auf BR. Alle 4 Teile, sieht auch genauso aus. Bei den Hitchcock Collections hast du recht. Es gibt einige BR-Sammlungen, die auch hübsch aufgemacht sind, die sind aber auch alle recht teuer. Eher was für "Liebhaber"-

I first saw you on the Schmoesknow and I liked you for you wit and humor. I watched a couple of your video's and I was hooked. Your enthusiasm for movies is infectious. We love a lot of the same movies (except for Argo, I can't believe Lincoln didn't win best movie.) But even when I don't like the same movie, you make me want to go out and watch it. As I said I'm hooked. Great work.

chewyx47 Unless they announce it in the nearby future, here in the U.K. we will be getting the Hayao Miyazaki Box Set on Blu-Ray the 3rd November this year along with the Spirited Away Blu-Ray on the same day. From what I can gather, America won't be having the Miyazaki box set quite yet, at least not as soon as the U.K.

Yeah, that is a shame! However, recently they announced that Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service and The Wind Rises will be released on Blu-Ray November 18th in the U.S. so you have that to look forward! :) I have seen all 11 of Miyazaki's films, but I actually own 9 on Blu-Ray. The two I'm waiting for are The Wind Rises (which is coming out at the end of next month in the U.K.) and Spirited Away on November 3rd in this country. I'm looking forward to finally having all of the Miyazaki films on Blu-Ray! The Blu-Ray transfer quality is excellent in the U.K. editions. I hope the U.S. ones are just as good!
