I hate that everyone keeps getting rid of buttons and knobs to replace them with touch screens. Buttons allow me to keep my eyes on the road while making adjustments.
And a good button feels so much higher quality
Its cheaper for the manufacture since molding costs a lot
Yes and sometimes the sunlight hits the screen and you can't see a thing
donayre21 especially for premium manufacturers, where you expect to feel the quality through the dials etc
I'm guessing its so you'll use them at red lights instead of while moving.
Also somehow it's cheaper than a button
Make sure to always have an air freshener in your Ferrari so it always has a nice a-Roma
Ba dum...tsch
Cague de risa mano
🤦🏻♂️
*I see what you did there*
Lol
This car will never age. What a beautiful design. I‘ve never liked Ferraris, but I am absolutely in love with this one. Fantastic job, Ferrari.
Infotainment will age tho.
I actually love the paddles being mounted on the column. It allows for them to be bigger, better designed and with a nicer mechanical feel. Also, I like that no matter how out of shape I get in fast switch corners, I always know which paddle is up and which is down.
He's correct. If you think the Roma looks great in photos/video, you will LOVE it in person. I've spent a good hour with the Roma and am hugely impressed. Big Win for Ferrari.
It is a perfect blend of the rear of the classic Ferrari 400 Superamerica with the front of the modern Monza SP1 / SP2!! I love this car!! Great content as always!
@Amarjit Singh Every line designed by Aston Martin is already been used by Ferrari in the past...
@Amarjit Singh 2015 Dbs over this all day long
@Maverick alright you know we dont talk about 812 right?
im just telling that id prefer 2015 Dbs style than this roma.
its up to you to be a diehard ferrari boy, but being a complete ignorant is unacceptable😅
That square plastic lump in the grill, not even centered. Dahell. C'mon Ferrari are you kidding me
Once you see it, you can't un see it, terrible bit of design.
Yea thats the sensor/ radar
Absolutely awful!!
@@donayre21 We all know BUT...
I was exactly thinking the same, so awful
08:45 "Feels like an entirely different brand" - not surprising given this was supposed to be the Maserati Alfieri.
WTF?🤯🤯🤯🤯
Hanniffy Dinn ...totally true! The Ferrari California was supposed to be a new, smaller Maserati. During the process, it became too complex and expensive. That’s why it was the very first V8 front engined Ferrari ever produced. Has you probably know, the Roma is built on top of a California platform. The Alfieri probably will never see the Sun light.
P G Jesus the alfieri to me looks way way better! It’s such a shame ! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
This Lamborghini looks so weird. Fire the entire design team asap!
DUDE, I was just saying that it looks like a Maserati GT!
The 7 years free Ferrari servicing is a big selling point to add to this elegant GT car! No other manufacturer offers such a good deal & servicing any of todays sportscars is expensive. I predict Ferrari will sell lots of Roma’s!
My Alfa Stelvio QV came with 10 years free service.
Looks like Aston Martin finally updated their interior. Good for them
Looks like they jammed a kindle on top of the center console and surrounded it with bits of a fiat!
It should’ve been a Maserati.
Thats what i said its a rebranded aston martin
Does anyone know what music that is at the start and end of the video please?
The interior looks like a Mclaren, I would prefer the Aston Martin style for a GT
The name's Bondi, Giovanni Bondi...
Does anyone know what music that is at the start and end of the video please?
James = Giacomo
It's so amazing what an Aston Martin knock off this "Ferrari" is
Gold

Idk why they made the steering wheel a touchscreen
... if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Does anyone know what music that is at the start and end of the video please?
Why?because they wanted to that’s why

These car companies gotta keep on inventing new things to be able to justify the prices on their cars, and staying competitive

Imagine if this sounded like a 60’s Le Mans Ferrari 😍 would be a utter dream car. I applaud Ferrari for taking the lead on some smoother vintage lines in a world of sharper, bigger, more aggressive
Indeed the rice rocket styling is pretty unremarkable. But this is basically a Vantage design.
@@RootBeerGMT
It looks more like the classic GT series of the 1960s.
There is an elegance to the design that I am obsessed with. A Ferrari without shouting "Look at me". Just wish it sounded like the Aston Martin Vantage.
Did you Photoshop yourself in the thumbnail?
yes he did. He looks somehow bigger prospectively :D
No manh.. its the background separation from the lens .....🤷♂️
10:15 "Windshield wiper motor failure. Go to dealer" on the dash ...
10:40 "Low beam failure"...
...it's still an Italian supercar then...!
And, that square block of plastic in front splitter :/
Yeah but if they're doing all that tech, you'd hope they could make the windscreen wipers and lights work...!
Let's talk about all the McLaren senna burning in hell in the first 24 hours lol it's a British super car at the end lol
It's still a pre production I think tho
These cars are still pre-production. Some other car journalists mentioned that and that Ferrari still has a lot of work to do before Roma is ready for clients.
punk
Huge pedals on the column for me, but if they are large enough and feel tactile enough either is acceptable. I’m used to driving a Giulia and stelvio QV for the past 2 years and I love the column shifters on them, which are basically identical to Ferrari. I really dislike small plastic shift paddles. If you put them on the column then by default they will always be large enough by necessity of needing to reach them. Cars with wheel mounted shifters tend to cheap out on them more often.
Exactly!
When you shift gears it all happens before the corner!
Therefor you always have your hands on the wheel even with colomn mounted shifters.
Shifters on the wheel irritates when you turn the wheel and get accidentally on the shifter and dont know for seconds where is up and where down to shift.
Agreed... I love my Alfa Giulia paddles compared to my M3 and S5. Just learn to use the index and pinkie fingers more when at extremes
I like the paddles being fixed. You always know where they are! You need to be pretty handy with a Ferrari if your shifting up with opposite lock on.
Amazing car love it and I’m waiting for my order 2022 the same but color Blue tour de france
Shields, coloured brake calipers, yellow wheel centres and contrast stitching have become a cliche. So many used examples are visually a dogs breakfast.
This is far classier without any racing influences. Very smart and a guaranteed big seller for daily users.
Cheshire Red
i totally agree with you. Good comment.
I don't care what everyone says, I think the Roma is gorgeous.
Everyone: nah.
Only joking ... good looking car.
🤣
@ColoradoStuff Even if that were true (it isn't), how is calling it an AM an insult?
@ColoradoStuff AM have made the most beautiful cars in the world. If it looks like them, it must also be that beautiful.
@ColoradoStuff it's just front engined. Don't know why you would call it aston martin. The windows are quite distinctly ferrari
I agree - it looks stunning!
Not sure about the front grille, or this general direction they're heading. It's a nice car but doesn't feel very Ferrari.
Benjamin Walker I’m not hot about it either. But Ferrari is ALWAYS ahead of the game in design. The 458 was radical and strange. Now, beloved. The 360 was horrendous when it came out as it was bulbous. Many car companies copied that. Now the car is a classic icon....the standard to what people think a Ferrari is. The Roma will grow on you.
It's a classic front engined Ferrari for the adult.
@@ricknineg I hope it does grow on me
@@scamdemicusmaximus5109 more of an 812 or f12 tdf guy myself if we're talking 'front engine for the adult'. I see the Roma more as an older demographic Grand Tourer. Nothing wrong with that. Just prefer the former mentioned above.
To me this car seems like it's geared towards the Aston Martin audience, it just seems more sophisticated when it comes to looks.
This new Aston Martin is sweet 😳😳
Every time I see this and before I read the title or whatever... I see Aston Martin
Completely agree
@@chadgraber4575 no, Jaguar
The Aston Martin that it looks like is the DB10 which was built for the James Bond film, Spector. There were only 10 of those built. Only 1 was sold to the public and sold for over 3 million dollars.
I love the look of that car so the fact that the Roma looks like it is actually a plus to me.
I see Maserati
I see Speed Racer’s Mach 5
What a beautiful car! It's a piece of art indeed.
Paddles mounted on the column is the best way, because the paddles always there where you expecting them. And in a corner no real good driver shifts, brakes or accelerates. You slow down before the corner to the right speed and when you left the corner and the steering is straight again you can accelerate, so you are always fast and you have always the maximum of traction.
As much as I like modern cockpits of cars, this Ferrari has not a very good balance between buttons and touchscreen. In this case I like the concept of Gordon Murrays T.50 much more; that's infotainment system doesn't age so quick as the on of the Roma.
Why is that screen changes soooooooo slow? That should drive me nuts 🤪
Yeah, hopefully Ferrari will work on that latency as it's not up into that premium / high end category!
And what will it look like 20 years from now?? 😂😂😵
Italians aren't known for their Computer Science capabilities....
Ferrari has built a better looking Aston Martin here than any of the current Aston Martins it seems. Very interesting car and as always, awesome video and overview. Good stuff!
Oh joy. Touch screens.
I prefer shifters on the colmn.
Because you always shift gears before and after the corner!
Racedrivers do this so even we have learn it in the school of driving license.
Therefor you always keep your hands on the wheel in corners. Shifters on the wheel irritates when you turn the wheel and get accidentally on the shifter and dont know for seconds where is up and where down to shift.
The lag is crazy with the screens on the display when you were switching between them. Why do car manufacturers still struggle so much to have a fluid system
its probably staggered on purpose, you don't want screens sliding by too fast, distracting and you keep passing by the screen you want. you want the screen move to relate to the press.
I've seen this setting as a configuration option in software.
@@dagnut He's talking about frames per seconds, that animation is at 15 FPS or less, it's NOT fluid (fluid doesn't mean fast or slow) it's kind of unacceptable, I mean you would hate that even on a low end 100€ smartphone. I hope they'll fix that.
The weirdest thing about 2020: Corvettes look like Ferraris, and Ferraris look like Corvettes.
Looks incredibly like an Aston Martin Vantage! That's not a bad thing of course...
@footballcoreano with what model?
@footballcoreano Ferrari copied the E-Type.
And yes re the shift paddles on a GT is ok like this. Of course for racing not appropriate...
Not a fan of the spoiler, but other than that, it’s perhaps one of the most beautiful designs of the past 5 years
As a Ferrari and Porsche owner, where the Porsche has the paddles on the steering wheel, my very strong preference is for the paddles to be on the steering column. In daily driving as you come out of a T-junction, you have to turn the wheel further than you can manage while still keeping your hands in the original position, and when you need to shift to second gear half way through that turn, the paddles are not accessible. Means that I can’t keep the Porsche in manual mode. I see that the more recent 911 version auto shifts from first to second, even if you are in manual mode, which somewhat solves this problem. But I still prefer the paddles in the Ferrari by a long way.
Aston Martin, McLaren, and Ferrari all mixed in one. I dont like it, but I guess I see the appeal.
Tom, you took the word out of my mouth. I can see a lot of british design features. Especially Aston Martin. In a good way cos I think the car isstunning
Tail lights remind me of a Corvette. 🤮
The rear arches are also very GT86esque :P
@@phacomd no they don't
Stop acting childish.
Nope
I own a Mercedes with paddle shift on the wheel. While spirited cornering sometimes it's hard to locate the paddles.
How i love those round lights of the past decade :(
To my eye, this is the most elegantly beautiful machine to roll out of Maranello since the 1970s. Simply sublime. I just HOPE there's a manual back up to an ELECTRONIC EXIT BUTTON??
Looks like people aren't a huge fan of this car's design. I like it.
Well, good for you
Me too the most beautiful Ferrari on the current lineup to my eyes
Re the paddles position, If you use pull push steering the fixed paddles will pretty much be always in the right place. Also for road driving using pull push you will never run out of steering, which on a mountain hairpin in a fast powerful car could get a bit tricky
This model reminds me of the Aston Martin 🤨
It looks like an Aston Martin F-type
Was just coming here to say that!
Ferrari had this design language long before the new Vantage
Google the DB10 prototype...
Fotis Fotiou Ferrar had this design language back in the 60s.
21:15 Column paddles reduces the margin of error during cornering. Steering mounted can make the driver loose sense of which paddle does what and which position they're currently in while cornering, as opposed to column mounted which makes the movement more regular and automatic, so drivers don't have to think about it. Vast majority of race cars use column even tough they only have 540 degree steering rotation.
Looks like an Alfa Brera at the rear .... plus I’ve never understood why they spend all that money time and research designing the front end but negate the legal need for a number plate...🤷🏽♂️
some countries/provinces/states don't require front licence plate.
Jay L vast majority do though I would say. I’m just surprised no manufacturers have come up with a better design solution
maybe some regulators r simply stupid.....
I believe in the US they dont need front end number plates and as such dont include a recess for it. Alfa were notorious for it with their grill pointing down to the ground, meaning you had an offset number plate in the rest of the world
Juergun Magerkinsquirter what’s wrong with an offset plate?
Whatever we think about the styling and the direction that Ferrari is going... dont forget the cinematography... good job, especially that intro - that was epic
I love how the driver and the passenger each have like their own 'zone'.
Like the Corvette C8
This dude spams a lot of ads won't be watching him again
@@astronmr20 Nope, like Jaaag F-Type.
It needs a black mesh/honeycolm grill, V12 and slit elegant rear lights like the Senna to match the front headlights and scuderia shields
Also 1 vote for paddles on the column, remembering which paddle is up and down when you're one and a half turns in crossed up in a corner is not the way to go
Absolutely beautiful! My favorite Ferrari! Love the very clean design! So smooth! Simple yet gorgeous! Must have one! 👍
Another great video, thank you! To answer your question, I like the paddles on the column- they are always in the same place and you really shouldnt be shifting with the wheel turned too much anyway
Correct. See Barcelona, Hot laps 458 Alonso and Massa. The steering wheel is always centred before a gear change.
I miss Italy….
Well it’s not going anywhere
I think paddles on the column is better when your steering wheel is off center and you have to move your hands around quickly in different places, when drifting etc the shifter you want will always be in the same location rather than spinning around all the time.
A comparison between the 992 & the Roma would be very interesting!
Paul De Cuyper 992 would destroy it but It would be nice too see
While I agree with comments saying that touchscreens shouldn’t replace buttons, knobs, and stylish dashboard. This is the most attractive dash layout I’ve seen with it, the interior is beautiful. Unlike the new Bentley Continental, the interior isn’t boring
This car is all about the new infotainment but it looks so laggy
Maybe because of being preproduction model
@@yoker3032 hopefully, I hope they fix it for the production model
Touch sensitive for screen controls is ok and sometimes better than buttons, BUT a START ENGINE BUTTON SHOULD BE A BUTTON!! That's the very first cool thing when you start a Ferrari, PRESSING THE BUTTON! If it's not possible, then at least make it red or stand out more.
THHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIISSS is the ferr.....
oh, wrong channel
I strongly DISAGREE with mounting the paddle shifter on the steering wheel.
Reason: when the steering wheel is turned more than 180 degrees, you would lose track of which shifter paddle is up and which is down.
Ferrari had it right - don't mess with it!
damn, excellent video, haven't even watched it yet
I test drove one and loved it. Got the back end loose by mistake coming out of a turn- with salesman behind me in a separate car- whoopsi. The only draw back for me, a traditionalist at 69 years old, the digital displays- even the tach! Its way too much to deal with when your trying to drive at high speeds- or even low speeds- but it is the way things are today. On to the next generation!
I want to have the shifters of the steering wheel. I’m happy that Ferrari keeps doing that. Stunning car though. Absolutely stunning!
I think column mounted pedals are better. I think it helps with durability of the pedals. And being on fixed position, helps take pressure off the mind. U dont have to constantly track where which pedal is.
Looking to forward seeing the welding you’re gonna do with those welding goggles!
What are those glasses?
George Joseph I think they’re Thom Browne, not sure.
Not funnay
Paddles on the column. On the wheel is confusing when turned tight. I've had both and I love the way Ferrari does it.
That intro is just so...... pleasing. I love it
So, how does it drive? *WHILE POWER SLIDING ROUND A CORNER*
At least they kept the classic engine warning light. Quite the nostalgic touch.
This is the most beautiful Maserati Alfieri Ferrari has ever built
You shouldn’t be changing gear mid turn anyway. Paddles should always stay in place
Absolutely correct. Select a gear before entering the curve and shift after exiting the the apex
I have to admit, this could be my first Ferrari. Pricing is ok, not overly crazy. Styling is not McLaren wild, but not 911 boring. It looks great, the engine is a gem, I love it. Thanks for this first proper review!
James! When are we getting an update on the bunker's build progress?
Yes an update please and did you see Shmee, he was down there too eating pasta and dancing around a beautiful red Roma ....girl 😊
Hi, paddles on the column, unless the paddles on the steering wheel carried out the up and downshift on the same paddle,
The all-digital-interiors look horrible and seem like will be outdated in no time. Personally, don't get why are such a trend.

Eyes on the road. Eyes on the road. Eyes on the road. Changes switch gear to touch screens so there's no tactile feel and you have to look at the buttons.
that's what I told til about some years. Then I bought my first car with almost no buttons, a simple Peugeot 308 GT. First I was really confused (also with the Peugeot's own way of cockpit management). But now I got used to it and I still find the cockpit with less mechanical buttons organized and cleaned up. Look for example the new Corvette C8 with the armada of buttons in the middle... for me a NO GO!
@@albertpflugfelder8590
That requires training buttons do not require training they can be felt by everybody and are far easier to locate and move.
In your presentation about the importance Ferrari places on "Hands on the wheel. Eyes on the road", I did not hear you mention a "Heads up" display. Does it have one?
What's that huge cube on the left side of the front spoiler? It stands out like a turd in a punch bowl
Sensor for the adaptive cruise control, emergency braking etc. I think
Tomislav B. It can’t be central, as that’s where the number plate goes.
I am surprised by the mixed design cues and sound of Roma by a manufacturer that always delivers beautiful artistic thoroughbreds with a soul from Maranello in all models.
I see alot of Aston Martin styling cues
With a Mclaren interior
But i see Ferrari + Aston
It kind of looks like modern Aston Martin cars but it is also and more importantly very reminiscent of old front engined Ferrari coupés (Daytona comes to mind for exemple).

Maybe I'm very old school but I don't like having so many screens.

Regarding the paddle shifts . With steering angles beyond the reach of the paddles which would essentially be a tighter corner, would you shift up ? Considering you entered the corner in the right gear
I dislike the rear end immensely. The front end however... standing back and looking at it - it looks shark like and I like it
Michael Rowden what is an example of a rear design that you like?
Exterior door handles are flush, and killer. Nice work Ferrari.
It looks like James Bond’s custom Aston in Spectre. And I’m a big fan.

Very Aston!
Tomorrow a buddy is going to Germany to review and probably buy a low mileage F355 Spider. Went to test drive a few with him. I cannot wait til that car arrives. I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS!! Yet MY GOD a touch screen for the engine start and a passenger screen to handle the infotainment????? I hope (however electric it all will be) that we can show newer generations that driving can be about the driving, not about BS (or what you can also do on an iPad).
I like it, would look good in a dark Blue met. Would choose over Aston / Merc.
Touch sensitive controls, nice. So no more sticky/gooey buttons!
(Yes, it's a common complaint)
I dont understand not moulding the dash around the centre touch screen, rather than it looking like a child wedged your tablet into it.
So many manufacturers guilty of this!
Is the new Ferrari Roma really so much track focused than the Portofino ?
Yuk painted grill and touch screen. Prefer switches in a car.
Pedals on the column! At speed, you want to know exactly where your paddles are! You should only be shifting gears going into and pulling out of corners, so that "cross-up" shouldn't impact you unless you make a mistake. IMHO
