  • This is the brand new Ferrari Roma and my first drive to discover all about it! From getting behind the wheel for a road test, to running through the new dashboard and technology onboard, there's a lot to explore in Ferrari's new GT.
The Ferrari Roma instantly had an impact when it launched in the Italian capital that gave it the name, with looks inspired by the Ferraris of the 1960s like the 250 GT Lusso, and an interior featuring their brand new HMI with a 16" curved display, touch controls on for the steering wheel and a totally new feel onboard. Visually it's a distinct model with a new look front and rear, that of an incredibly stylish and elegant GT, and as they put it "understated luxury". This is best demonstrated by the fact the Roma is Ferrari's first ever new car launch to not wear the Scuderia Ferrari shields on the wings.
For the Roma, the 3.9l twin turbo V8 has been reworked and now produces 620hp and 760Nm, but now with the 8spd dual clutch gearbox that was created for the SF90 Stradale, offering 20% faster shift times, a shorter ratio for a more enjoyable experience, and saving weight in the process. Unlike the Portofino and GTC4Lusso, the Roma also gets a 5 stage Manettino including Race mode, which offers great sporty characteristics for road driving. There's no question that it's a GT with variable suspension that's exceptionally gentle in Comfort modes but also still fairly soft even in Race. However it also has a new tone, due to the work that's been done around the OPF which actually gives a very positive sound to enjoy.
Officially the Roma is a "2+" with back seats either for children or for additional luggage, a solution that works fairly well overall. It also brings the new style car key, mimicking the badge worn on the bonnet along with a lovely cabin feel with the new design.
In the Piedmontese region of Italy, we have the perfect roads to drive and explore with the Roma during Ferrari's global media drive event. After kicking off with a walkaround let's get on the road to experience it and take in all the details before running through the new systems onboard in more detail as well.

The Roma looks so good. When it was anounced I thought that it was going to be one of the exclusive models because it just looks so elegent. Reminded a lot of the One-77 actually.
But those silver forged rims on the example you drove just really don't do it for me. The forged wheels in Anthracite like your Lusso, the Standard rims in all colours and the diamond cut wheels look so much better.
Don't really see where this would fit into your garage right now though unfortunately.

You obviously haven't tried haptic feedback buttons, you have to press firmly not just touch lightly + you'll have a quick vibration which makes it feel almost identical to a button, you just gain the additional functionality of being able to do swipe gestures and such, and do various commands based on how hard you press it since it's a pressure sensetive button basically

    • @F1ll1nTh3Blanks
      @F1ll1nTh3Blanks 4 роки тому +2

@@MrTARIQSs No you don't. Haptic feedback doesn't mean it has pressure depth sensitivity. It's up to the tech inside it as to whether or not it has pressure sense. Haptic feedback is just the vibrations to let you know you've touched something.

Absolutely beautiful! The most spectacular new launch in years. So much amazing details. All the new technology ( expect that it still has a V8 ). Also just a little bit outdated , that the obstructed rear view mirror is replaced with a rear view camera.

Should have been a V12. And all those touch screens are pathetic.

Hasan Genc absolutely, since it’s so slow, should add a truck bed and monster tires too!

That START” touch button is so stupid. It feels like something Honda or Toyota would have. That alone drops the value of the car.

imagine using it with wet hands after being in the rain , one can only wonder how many functions accidentally get activated.

Also this stupid obsession with touch sensitive buttons - in some instances you simply can’t replace a physical button with a touch sensitive one. I mean who thinks that replacing a big red physical on/off button with a barely there touch sensitive one was a good idea in the short term or even long term? I swear car manufacturers are no longer thinking about the user experience. The on off button on a car is like a crown on a watch - if you want that connection with the vehicle you have to have it, it is simple as that. Poor decision by Ferrari

It's a case of changing things for the sake of changing it because it's new, regardless if it actually makes sense or not.

imagine this car in 30 years time, trying to replace or repair that steering wheel or infotainment? ‘Normal’ 2020 cars will get away with big screen infotainment and touch buttons because they’ll all be crushed in the next 20 years. This won’t.

Had a similar thought myself, can't help but feel digital dashboards in general will look fairly terrible in 20+ years. As bad as the digital dashboards of the 80s.

Somebody here in Cambridge been shopping at Waitrose for the last two months in one of these...spotted at least 5 or 6 times there in the parking lot, so I guess it is indeed a daily drive and great for when you need to stock up on Aperol and Prosecco 😂

Pretty car Tim, almost Pininfarina delicacy of form. Where do you put the front number plate though?
