Listening to Doug Mulray's commentary is a bit of a shock to the system. For such an outrageous radio personality, his motor sport commentary is the very definition of professional!
I'd rather lower my nuts into a live toaster than watch today's sanitised shitshow. It's not just Bathurst, motorsport in general has totally lost its way. It's lost the fun, edgy characters that made it culturally relevant. Grid Girls gone. The desire not to offend anyone has left it cucked, neutered and culturally irrelevant.
It was said that Larry Perkins could not qualify in 1st place or could he win the race because Larry was the using the stock Holden V8 all others were running the Chevy V8, No one thought Larry could make the stock Holden V8 fast enough or last the 1000kms at race speed, well they were WRONG car 11 Larry Perkins Commodore won the top ten shootout and won the race!!!!
@pete smyth to the best of my knowledge Larry used the'stock' Holden V8 but i would be not surprised if they were strengthened blocks to stand extra HP and running flat out for 1000kms, all the Holdens used 304 Chev engine, good on Larry he stuck to his guns and it payed off!

@@markjones464 Yes LP was a great brilliant engineer but also a very very good driver, i have been watching ATCC/V8 Supercars 30++ years i do not think i ever seen LP nudge someone off the track!! Unfortunate it owes me too much. The vehicle is impeccable. 440 HP at the rear wheels. The motor has just been finished. ROH three piece 18" wheels. All the original parts are boxed. Brambo brakes. Etc. It owes me $150,000.00.
At 2:32:50 they said the Winfield team took the option of putting the GTR front breaks on the commodore. How the hell can that even remotely be allowed?
If there's no regulation addressing it, or expressly forbidding it, usually its allowed . Knowing what the Regs address, and what they don't, is the part where innovation lives.
These are the best-sounding V8 engines on the planet. Really wish British Touring Cars used this format. BTCC like most of the others around the world are tame and lame now.
You would hardly think the pit wall and exit road were installed in the late 70s and the pit entrance road added in 1984. Nevertheless Bathurst always provides some great racing.
Watching this again! It's funny, the EB Falcon was a really crap road car but it was definitely the best looking of this era touring cars. Especially in '94 with the dive planes on the front. No. 18 was definite testament to how tough the old falcons were. Especially that 9'' diff!!!
Ford teams were furious the Holden teams were allowed a new aero package that made sure they couldn’t win . Again in 1995 before bathurst the falcons had aero taken off the front under trays.
If you want to search for Bathurst 1000 races I'd recommend you to search for "Bathurst 1000, long" or "Bathurst 1000 part". I'm sure you'll find all the Bathurst 1000 races that are on UA-cam that way :-)
Everything after the 90's motorsport-wise was on the down escalator. Only the Isle of Man TT remains true to the spirit of its birth. F1 broke their own rules as written when they made sure Hamilton didn't win. It's also been captured by the woke brigade. Rallying is a shadow of its former self. And post 2000 V8...don't even get me started.
This is the year holden and ford can win since they destroyed what made Australian racing. Corruption. What made Bathurst so good was all the different every day models you could buy and seeing them racing..
This is the first great race that I watched from start to finish as a kid. Thank you so much for uploading 6 hours of nostalgia.
This was the first V8 race I saw in person. We ended up walking to the top of the hill, that place was a real eye opener for a 12 year old.

Hey was a massive car fan
1:38:47 for those looking for Cleland's reaction to the prop joining him in the cockpit
Literally almost shafted by his own car. Wouldn't trust anyone who didn't swear during that. Surprised he wasn't injured by flying debris...🙈🙉🙊
Planning on watching this tomoz in piece on my own feet up coffee thank you ! Brocky 05 the mountain master RIP ! 👍🏻👏
It's the only thing on my bucket list , to visit the track and watch a race.
Those were the days, not what we have now.
It's so sterile and corporatized now

Miss the old privateers, Reid and Ashbey were a Bathurst institution once upon a time
you are a legand for uploading this :) i have been waiting for years to see this race :)
Thank you for uploading - brilliant
Many Thanks for this.
Much appreciated!
“There’s a real bad vibration-BANG-oh fuck!!”
Gotta love John Cleland 😂😂😂
Love that bit!
A lesser man would've shat himself. Not Clelland though, he's a tenacious Scot.
Thanks for the upload. It's brilliant watching Larrikin Larry absolutely spanking the snot out of the opposition here. Brilliant stuff 🤘🤘🤘
Kids these days will never understand the problems associated with recording to VHS!
Even when I was 10 I was using VHS tapes to record until I got my HDD recorder. Boy I don't miss recording to tapes
love the old Winfield red livery
It just seems to suit the lines of the car perfectly. Wynns was a great looking car also.
1:35:57 "It's going off like a saucepan full of popcorn" :D
Must have made a hell of a racket for John Cleland, bit different to his Vauxhall in the British Touring Car Championship.

I still have my 1992 Holden Commodore VP HSV GTS with 50000 km.

No worries, would prefer a stock car anyway.

Maybe the brakes Freddy took off the GTR came from a Holden in the first place?
The introduction of V8 racing was what we wanted.
Hey mate good on you for posting this any chance you have any Falcon ads recorded from around then?
Cheers
I hope that this race comes out as a DVD at some time, if so I will add it to my collection as quick as a wink.

May you upload 1997 primus 1000 classic please 🙂🇭🇲
Already exists, official V8 Supercars Channel uploaded it.
Small note: V8 Supercars channel is called Supercars
Ngl, as much as you can't beat the sound of the Holden V8s, that M3 does sound good.
Those M3's had 4 cylinder engines revving to 9500 RPM

Bathurst needs to return to its 80's & 90's roots with privateers & different class categories
They should do a classic 90's era race now. There's probably enough cars from this era out there.
Jeez when did they add pit lane speeds

The Holden's were using a similar 9inch but had a split drive shaft which was the weak point

Great racing? You better believe it, this IS great racing. Value for money stuff, could you please put up some more Bathurst races when you find time?
Think pit lane speed limits were introduced about three years after this event, about the same year as I turned 21.

That was a hard crash for Dick Johnson, I wonder if Bill O’Brien had some failure in his car which caused him to crash into the Falcon.
