or New Hampshire with bigger turns and even harder to pass
@@AlonsoRules Was thinking the exact same
On the older games it was a bitch because the car always lost control in the corners nomatter how good you were
I miss everything about NASCAR in the early 2000's. Those were the days.
esp Dodge mostly we miss that
A fact:this was the 2000th NASCAR Cup Series race.
And Richard petty won 200/2000 of it, wow
The 2000th NASCAR Cup Series race was at Bristol in March of 2003.
Jeff Gordon's flame car was SOOO iconic.
also Bill Elliott's 9 ride was FIRRRREEE.
@@MeettheCreatives what? Most boring schemes ever lol.
@@justinkrizenesky bill Elliott dodge was fire actually
Meet the Creatives yes the blue one not the black one
@Rob Johnston It was the Silver Bullet Coors Light Dodge Intrepid RT for me , as well as the #43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid RT , the #22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid RT , the #45 Sprint PCS Dodge Intrepid RT , the #19 Dodge Dealers Intrepid RT , and the #01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid RT.
Another Bill Elliott win? Yes please!
I miss Dodge in NASCAR and all these great drivers. Thanks for uploading, NASCAR and thanks for the great memories. I remember watching this race.
All 10 Dodge Intrepid RTs had aerodynamic changes made for this race.
Golden Era of Stock Car Racing. Thanks NASCAR for the upload.
Really? I thought the 80s were the golden era, Dale Earnhardt dominating the series, or the 70s when The King and Cale Yarborough raced each other for the Daytona 500 trophy. Or the 1950s were the golden era, when cars were still just converted family cars racing on the sands of the beach, and you had Red Byron and Fonty Flock and Fireball Roberts.
@@vidmasterK1 Yes really. For me 4 gen. cars era was the best. Lots of great races are from those years.
@@vidmasterK1 your comment literally proves that any era can be considered the golden era. Different generations are going to have different golden eras.
One of my favorite childhood memories as a young Bill Elliott fan. Will always remember watching this race with my dad and how happy we were.
Me as well. Me and my dad were so damn excited. Elliott would of had so many more wins if he wouldn’t of driven for himself all those years
When you see that Lowe’s #31 and remember somebody else was actually sponsored by Lowe’s at one point
Brett Bodine was sponsored by Lowe's in the Cup series before Skinner was and before that in 1979 Lowe's sponsored the number 2 Rod Osterlund owned car for the Talladega 500 for driver David Pearson who was subbing for the injured Dale Earnhardt
Barry Jowers ...

Barry Jowers in this race it was Jeff Green anyways

Great to see Bill win again. Thanks, NASCAR, for reshowing the race.
Love these. Keep showing more from the 2001 season. It's cool seeing Jimmie Johnson out there not running the full season yet.

What a great season. Four competitive manufacturers.
Chevrolet Ford Dodge and Pontiac
I miss this race being in the daytime. It made the track look like a nice getaway surrounded by the ocean and palm trees. It was a great selling point for the track. But at night it doesn’t really do it justice.
I hadn't remembered that when the pit road accident happened, one of Ward's guys helped Rudd's crew finish their pit stop.
That was something that I loved about NASCAR. Those moments of sportsmanship, camaraderie and respect.
I miss Allen Bestwick so much...
Kenny _ Yeah.
NASCAR On NBC Should Bring Allen Bestwick BACK. From 2021 To 2024.
He calls college basketball now and seems to be super pumped about it. but yes - he's the man lol
Benny Parsons
Awesome bill from Dawsonville
Just imagine if ray had stayed with Jeff Gordon!
Amen
Man ,Jeff proved that he could get it done with any crew chief. He might not have the titles after 2001, mainly due to the stupid and illegitimate chase format, but his stats just really didn't drop off. The man with solid the whole time.
All those old paint schemes, brings back memories of watching NASCAR regularly up until the Chase format.
Your comment would be fine without the last part. 🤦♂️
I never knew bill did a burnout after this win. I knows he's old school and would never do that but this truly must have been an exciting moment for him.
Considering he hadn't won a race in 7 years prior to Homestead Bill was gonna milk that victory for all it was worth and rightfully so, I will admit it sucked for Casey Atwood to get passed by your teammate but it could have been worse also I do wonder how many races Bill Elliott could have won if he didn't race for his own team though?
@@ernestscott9244 that’s one of the greatest questions. Imagine if he went with Yates or Roush. He would’ve certainly won a few more races.
Casey Atwood was going to victory Lane until Bill Elliott passed him with a few Laps to go
I'd say Bill taught him Casey a lesson. Casey was in the lead burning up those tires trying to pull away from Bill instead of running no faster than he needed to. Bill just sat back there, stayed smooth and consistent and kept those tires cool and when it was time for him to use up his stuff, he had it there to use. So I dunno if Casey ever really had control of the race, unless he had put the bumper to bill going into the next turn. But I agree, Casey snowed a lot of promise in this race and I think Ray Evernham gave up on Casey too quick.
Does anyone remember a rookie contender back in 1993 that would either run good, or he would wreck and he would also show signs of greatness. His name was Jeff Gordon, anyone heard of him? Now what if Rick Hendrick and his then crew chief, Ray Evernham had give up on Jeff after 1993. I don't think another competitive race team would have signed Jeff Gordon in 1994 bc it was very, VERY unusual until after Jeff Gordon, for a top tier team to sign up a rookie or sophomore year driver. The competitive teams wanted drivers 29 years old and older with at least 3 to 5 years experience. We may have never seen Jeff Gordon's true talent. Now I also believe that he was able to dominate the series from 1995 to 1998 bc of his crew chief, Evernham. Without Ray, Jeff wouldn't have had no ways to among of success with someone other than Ray. The proof is in the pudding. Jeff only won, 1 championship when Ray Evernham was not his crew chief and won 3 championships with Ray as his crew chief. If Ray had stayed with Jeff, instead of leaving to become a car owner and to help Dodge return to NASCAR, Jeff would have won 110+ races... That coveted 7 Championships, why possibly have broken the record and won 8 championships. Then he would be called, "The Goat", not Jimmie Johnson, but I also don't believe Jimmie is the greatest. Dale Earnhardt had more talent behind the wheel and Richard Petty could win anywhere, anytime...
@@trecooledge1326 I wish ray would have stayed longer but Robby Loomis was a very underrated crew chiefs. I believe if Robby would have stayed a few more years Jeff would have have won at least five championships and got close to one hundred races.
@@robertrobinson9920 Robbie was a great crew chief and underrated, but it just always concerned me that his only success in NASCAR Winston Cup we at Hendrick with Jeff Gordon. Petty Enterprises had been in trouble for a long time, but it has been under Robbie Loomis'managing fine the 80s, except for the few years he went over to work with Jeff and Hendrick Motorsports. After being replaced by new blood, Robbie went back to Petty, and Under Robbies management of the team, the team has to close the doors until Gillette Evernham bailed them out so they could put Richard Petty Motorsports which coincidentally... Comes out to be RPM... for a race team.
@@trecooledge1326 True there but petty enterprises had been on the down hill slide since 1984 . I think if robbie Loomis would have stayed Jeff would have one hundred wins and another championship. I wish Jeff could have been paired with Alan Gustafson sooner .
@@robertrobinson9920 yes, very true
My grandfather was a huge Bill Elliott fan my whole life rest his soul 😊
Bill Elliot is still alive…..
I kind of miss flat Homestead
I hated this Miami. I love the track that we have now
2 questions that need answering
Had Casey won that race, would he have stayed in the 19 for 2002?
And where would Jeremy Mayfield have ended up had that happen?
Jay Cartwright Jeremy may have stayed, Newman would probably run part time next season and then the switch would happen in 2003
Evernham would still kick him out after 2001
I read an article about Casey, made it some like he had work ethic issues so I doubt it would have changed anything. He only lasted one year in that 7 car if I remember correctly.
@@clayguthrie Casey's one of the Biggest what ifs in Nascar
@@oscarjimenezsr.716 yep. He had potential. I've always been a Harvick fan, but I was also pulling for Casey in 2001/2002. I remember being so disappointed when Elliott beat him in this race.

The 2001 Champion with the Chase format would be Sterling Marlin the Champion, Not Jeff Gordon, Burton o either Stewart
The attitude of the year-long contenders would've probably changed. Some drivers used to "chill" quite a bit during the last third of the season almost every year.
The Chase was Garbage since 2004
@@DanArnets1492 That’s why I don’t like consistency, I like a championship battle that has the drivers on their toes and not have the leader relax after having a large gap near the end of the season.
@@gianni4925 “We had a good points day” was awful to hear. I want drivers racing for the win. Not riding in 12th
@@joshjarnagin3161 That just isn't feasible every race, you can't tear up or destroy a car every week trying to race for a win... Soon there won't be enough fans watching or attending races to pay for it anyway! That kind of attitude just further separates the fans and amateur racers from the sport
Sometimes you just have to finish as best as you can and take care of the car... Consistency is king, because its the most difficult thing to achieve..
The points system will always be the greatest way to show who really was the best driver all year long

PLEASE STOP TELLING US WHO WINS IN DESCRIPTION. It’s great that you put these up for us. It really is. But I’m more likely to watch it if you don’t tell me who won. That’s like going to watch a movie in the theatre but then telling you the ending just before it starts. Please

Yeah, like watching a movie from 2001.
Devin C movies are stories that we can always go back on true. I’m new to this sport and would like to feel the suspense you got when watched it live. This takes that away. You want attract new people to a sport surley.
Terry Labonte had a special paint scheme for this race to commemorate Dale Earnhardt surpassing his “iron man” streak of 655 consecutive races. But because Dale passed earlier that February, Terry drove the Monsters Inc car instead.
Those Pontiacs looked so good. I wish GM brought them back, even if just for NASCAR.
Cool thanks! : D
1:19:25 the reason Nascar mandated pit crews wear helmets.

See all that heavy hitting behind Dodge's comeback? Bill Davis' guys, Chip Ganassi, Evernham, Petty... That's grown-ass man talent and money and the reason why I wish the drones would STOP talking about a Dodge comeback here @ end of '21 just because Tony Stewart got hitched. Never mind the fact it remains to be seen if Chrysler/Dodge will exist in 5 years. This was the last era NASCAR was fun to me - when Mopar came back and whupped ass. Dodge Intrepids , no less (which if you know your LH platform history was derived from the Renault-AMC Eagle Premiere). !!! 🚗
@cuda426hemi You're leaving out one more Dodge team , and that team is Melling Racing.

Takes away some of the fun when you put the winner’s name in the title :/
It does? From a race in 2001?
iRacerCB, yes, especially for someone who's never seen it before.
I appreciate NASCAR uploading these, but why do they always spoil the race winner for people who never saw the race? Kind of ruins the suspense.

1:19:25 why NASCAR pit crew members must wear a full suit on pitroad like the drivers so inside the cars.
They were already wearing suits at this time. This mandated helmets for pit crews
@@joshjarnagin3161 that's why I made sure to add full in the sentence
Don't forget the officials, thanks to Kenny Lawson, all the officials , except for the flagman and pace car driver, have to wear helmets too. It would be another 13 years until all
NASCAR officials have to wear helmets too
In my opinion Evernham’s decision to replace Atwood in the #19 and move him to the #7 came down to “if Jeremy Mayfield was in that car would he have lost this race?”
Mayfield was a free agent after being fired from Penske several weeks prior.
Can whoever posts the old races can they not put the winner of the race in the description or a picture of the winner as the thumbnail. Why bother watching if I already know the result.
