1992 Great Moments From Bathurst.
"The race was won for the second year in a row
by Jim Richards and Mark Skaife driving a Gibson
Motor Sport prepared Nissan Skyline GT-R, the pair
becoming the first back to back Bathurst winners
since Peter Brock and Larry Perkins had won in
1983 and 1984. Richards and Skaife had to be
declared the winners after a rainstorm swept
across the race in the closing stages causing
many accidents in conditions deemed by race
officials too dangerous to continue." - Wikipedia

This video is dedicated to the memory of Denny Hulme.
Motor sport is an international language.
RIP Denny Hulme and Mike Raymond
Couldnt stand that Mike Raymond
What about Evan green
What about Evan green
Didn't realise how good the TV production/direction was already in 1992.
People have to remember how heavily the gtr’s were handicapped by this stage. It’s pretty amazing how quick they were on a power circuit. I remember watching this as a young 18 year old and thinking that Denny Hulme was an old fella that had passed away. 56 seems very young to be dying of a heart attack now. RIP champion.
Obviously gave them less of a handy-cap than the Sierra's trying to make their itty bitty biscuit tyres last 30 laps though, didn't it ! Also, who actually slipped through to cross the finish line first ? I'll give you a clue, it WASN'T the "Rain Master" driving the supposed techno marvel !!
@@arkhsm The Sierra's tyres had NOTHING to do with anything...grasping at straw's
@@Fantomx7g6 bullshit yes it was...they wernt allowed to run the wider tyre and also copped a weight penalty as well at amaroo
@benpasquale6353 😂😂😂😂
@@Fantomx7g6 yeah exactly...you got no clue...🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s AWD not 4WD , GTR one the best touring cars ever to race
One of the reasons we call it 'The Great Race' is because of races like this. Action and drama from start to finish. No matter who you supported, we all look back and remember this race. On a different note Mike Raymond really was the voice of the great race. Hearing him is like hearing the voice of an old mate you haven't seen for a long time.
I realise the Nissans dominated but to watch that Sierra leave it on the straights was something..
The Nissans were hobbled you realise right in 92? They boost restricted them, rev limited them and added 100kg +. The only thing they didnt do to them was make them run on 5 cylinders. They even added weight ballast to them because the Sierra had no chance against them....watch this...it will give you a better idea from the year before..91...3:42

The 2L N/A tyres mandated by the regs meant straights were the only place that 550+hp could be used !!
@@arkhsm you must have really hated 87.
Sierra's getting disqualified for cheating 😂
The sierras tires were pathetically small it was a mystery how Dick Johnson had that ford flying round those mountain curves with high boost/600BHP!!
My point exactly; imagine what the Sierra's lap times would have been with a decent size tyre...not a biscuit !!
Anywhere else the race would have been abandoned due to the sad loss of Denny Hulme .... unbelievable !!
Absolute rubbish. Does the name Ayrton Senna ring a bell? I could give you a thousand more examples unfortunately. Think before typing.
What a disgusting reaction by the crowd! That car performed perfectly, pit crew was incredible, and the driving was superb. Most race fans love it when the entire team works together like a well oiled machine! It's poetry in motion for gear heads!! Ha ha ha... Not sure what they were whining about. maybe something regarding a previous race. At any rate, shame on them for the childish reception! Those guys deserve better for such a great race!
Because the FORD Sierra was robbed of a Bathurst win for the SECOND time, that's why mate !!
Pack of Assholes lol was like watching a WWE match at the end haha
The GTR became an anti-hero, which was priceless
The GTR deserved the win. The dominated the race all day in the best car. @arkhsm
🎌🎌🎌🎌GODZILLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! 🎌🎌🎌🎌 4:33
No pit lane speed limits back then
RIP Denny Hulme and Mike Raymond terrible day for motorsport
Wow, didn't think the Sierra would have the legs on that GTR on the 2nd lap there.
The GTR was badly hobbled in 92 with weight and power bought down by near 200hp...have a look at 91 and Richards drag up the mountain against Johnsons Sierra and he left Dick in the dust
Sierras were rev and tyre limited too
They were the underdog vs the gtr but held their own
The Years the Dinosaur v8 Holden NEVER had a chance...what better way to have one...then create your own series with NO competition
The year Ford and Holden had any competitor hobbled so they had a chance at being competitive (basically cheated) for crying out loud....the only thing they didnt have done to the mighty GTR was make it run on 5 cylinders...it was boost and rev restricted and was carrying more extra weight than a passenger (100kg)...it had NOTHING to do about closer racing and all to do with F & H Sales and Marketing of what wins on Sunday SELLS on Monday...especially for the old Dinosaur v8 commodores wich were just no longer competitive...So what did F & H both do next? Had ALL competition banned...hence... v8 Taxicab series and ultimately destroyed Australian Touring Car series and group A...they both deserved to go Broke!
Umm, Group A was ultimately doomed overseas too and I'm pretty sure the V8 series had nothing to do with that. Don't let your emotions overrule rational thought
The only reason the GTR is popular is the fall of Group A. If It went on, the GTR would be ridiculed like the dominating Mustangs, Falcons, Camaros, Commodores, Sierras, etc. before it. I've seen this cycle again and again. Wether you like it or not, V8 supercars lasted longer than previous ATCC regulations. I honestly hated 2 door cars in ATCC.
@@johncarl5505 4 door family hacks with stickers don't belong on race tracks
It's always funny that whenever a foreign manufacturer makes a good car F & H whined. Be it the Mazda RX-7 or the GTR, it's funny how ultra national they were and how fragile their national ego was
@@mazdaroadster-mx5 It's the same for any national series, that's why the McLaren F1 GTR was banned in JGTC at the behest of Japanese manufacturers. At the end of the day all manufacturers agree that silhouette racing is the best way to go, or they can go with Balance of Performance, although fans don't like that one. This is why NASCAR, Supercars, Super GT, old DTM, etc. have mostly identical cars with manufacturer styling, no manufacturer gets ahead and everyone is happy.
Why didn’t they get the Nissan 2wd ??
Dick Johnson should of been declared the winner! Jim smashes under yellow not taking enough precaution, not to mention if you look at when the yellow was deployed he also passed under a yellow flag which gives Johnson the win.
Johnson had passed the finish line twice when the race was stopped. Best Sierra performance at Bathurst ever - his Ford was bullit proof
Bruce Lee didn’t know that , it only further adds cred that Johnson won the race! Seems to me that these wrongful decisions should be changed as they do impact on all sports and in some cases effect the direction the sport heads down.
Richards won fair and square...not like the forever whinger Johnson
The Johnson brigade will wail about it for the rest of time. Everyone else celebrated the win. The R32 won. Get over it.
Like it or not the rules say when the red flag goes out they count back to the last lap which Richards was leading. Irrelevant who was left on track or when the yellow flag went up. Don't like the result get the rules changed, pretty simple
Neesanns
GTR whiners, just be thankful that the Sierra's were knobbled by having to use those tiny wheel/tyre packages that the 2 litre natural aspiration cars used !!
Nah, the Sierra was at the end of its development and was as fast as it was ever going to go. It was already superseded in touring car series in Europe and the UK in 1991. The GTR was just a better car, there's no arguing with that. More power, better aero, 4WD, engineered by the team with the best resources, and driven by arguably the best driver in the category at the time (Jim Richards). Considering all that you'd be asking questions if they weren't winning everything.
