Thank you so much. Your homeopathy video was casually shown to my Mom at dinner one night (totally not planned ;]) This is what started the long battle to get her to trust medicine. I'm 18 years old and I got my vaccines in February; WITH her approval and help. Thank you. You have touched my life.
My dad contracted polio when he was 2 in 1947, at that time a health crisis was happening and all parents were worried their children could contract the virus, as my father developed a high fever, my grandmother took him to the hospital and the doctors quickly diagnosed him with polio and treated him with medications they had at the time, it was enough to stop the virus from spreading to others parts of the body, but the damage caused to his left leg was irreversible, the sequels of the viral infection in his peripheral nervous system of the left leg made that so his leg would not grow with the rest of his body, as he got older, he made a total of 8 surgeries in a painful procedure that broke his bones to extend the leg, each time he made the surgery he was plastered for half a year until his leg healed. He was never able to run, but he loved to play futbol as a goalkeeper and swim at his teens. He still needs to use a device that makes his left leg higher to walk because his right leg is 3 cm longer than the left, but he never complained about it and always talks about the importance of being vaccinated. Glory to the vaccines and health professionals!
@Matthew Talbot-Paine Well I wouldn't say that they don't have a political agenda. You know, that imigration video they made filled with lies. But that was a one time thing.
when i was in the navy, they lined us up and we walked a gauntlet of people facing each other with pneumatic guns vaccinating us in both arms. we were vaccinated against every disease we might encounter if they had a vaccination for it. as far as i know, none us died or became autistic. i was born in the 50s, and had measles, mumps, chicken pox myself, while i had cousins that had polio and whooping cough. if you can spare your children these experiences...DO IT!
Finally, someone who doesn't use that many kids survived those diseases as an excuse to not vaccinate, as it must have been the worst you've ever felt. You deserve a medal of honor for fighting in the war, and a medal for your intelligence!😉 i'm not American, but still thank you for your service!
My mother has allways been religiously anti-government, she says she isnt anti-vax, shes just anti-thisvax, (covid), but watching this, and scrupulously examining your sources, shes no longer anti-anyvax, thank you so much kurgesagt for your impartial and incredible video! Now i just need to convince her that the earth isnt flat🙄, she's not 100% convinced it is, but she refuses to "rule out the possibility" New video idea maybe? "X2 elbow nudges"

Just discovered this channel today and have already watched quite a few videos, very informative stuff that is all properly sourced and explained exceptionally well. I wish that more of the teachers I had in school were able to express themselves this clearly and effectively.
Well to be fair, this is scripted and rehearsed, and has plenty of visuals to help explain, while teachers don't have time to put together a whole video just to explain a quick question or get help from professionals and experts. It's kind of an unfair fight, don't you think?
@@rosebon9875 One of the main bias-points is where is Kurzgesagt getting it's money from to create such video's and where is the knowledge coming from. Not all vaccines have been so good for humanity and a lot of money is made with it, which leaves gaps for exploiting power.

One of my great aunts had polio in the 1930s, my mom had mumps and chickenpox, my grandma had chickenpox (and later shingles), and one of my grandpa’s brothers died at the age of 2 from meningitis. Last I checked, polio is now nonexistent in the US, mumps and meningitis cases are rare, and chickenpox has been on the decline. Funny how the major declines in rates for these diseases occurred shortly after the vaccines for each of these were introduced. It’s almost like vaccines work. EDIT: Wow this is the most likes I’ve gotten on a comment.
@@Sunshine-yl4vx Vaccines don't work forever, and sometimes they're not effective in some people. But it GREATLY decreases an individuals chances of contracting a disease. Nothing's 100% here; it's science, there's always going to be a margin of error and freak accidents. It doesn't mean that we should give up the effort of preventing these diseases as best as we can for those that can't be protected.
The ironic thing about this comment is that the vaccine has been used long enough that it actually has ALMOST caused MMR to be extinct. The anti vaxxers are the ones reversing the trend
It's sad to see we have a debate on this. I remember when I was young there was a constant reminder by everyone to vaccinate. It was a time when the spread of smallpox was fresh in people mind. What it's even sadder is the one who refuses vaccinate is not the one who really pays the price. It's their children.
*vaccinated people who don't have autism* I better not vaccinate my kids so they don't have autism *ITS ALMOST AS IF VACCINES DONT ACTUALLY CAUSE AUTISM* Unfortunately, they cannot fix stupid, lethal injection to civilians is illegal
When I was too young to be vaccinated I contracted Pneumonia from kid with measles. I had to be hospitalized, I almost died. I don't want this to happen to anyone else
I got pneumonia at age 21 because of a massive measles outbreak, I managed to avoid hospitalization thanks to a prompt antibiotic treatment but it was no joke. Why someone would be ok to take this risk with their children is beyond me

I really don't understand the "vaccines cause autism" argument. Like, even if they did, would you rather your kid not be able to socialize as well, or die of measles at the age of 2? Like, I'm autistic, and I can function just fine.
Same As a fellow Autistic person is infuriates me that anti vaxxers bring this up because they're painting Autism as this "horrible disease" and it's better to die rather than "suffer from it"
Why do you even ask this question? Everybody can decide whether if they want vaccinations or don't. Is it your business? The real question is about - mandatory vaccinations - human rights / civil rights violations - discrimination - hate speech against unvaccinated peole. When do provaxers want to pay for these crimes?
Edit to original post: (turn around in swivel chair in a dark room) “Ive been expecting you” Disease looks around like I know something and it does not.
Im Pro-vaccines but I think babies should get them at about the age of 1. I think vaccines are to powerful for their little brains because they contain mercury that can have side effects like Autism.
i mean, they have a better life than most of the immune system's cells, which either exist to fight until they die from exhaustion or are programmed to commit suicide the moment they're no longer useful.
My mother told me when my older brother was very young, he contacted chicken pox. It was so bad that it took him a while to recover and my motjer thought she's lose him. He got over ot but it affected his muscles for a while. Je couldn't even walk. My mother had to give him leg massages and trained him to walk again. It was a very hard and emotional time for her. Everyone thought he could never walk again, but he did. Then he caught it again whwn he and I went to school. We were both bedridden with fever and my only memory of it was staring at the ceiling all day while I was burning up woth fever. I got a much milder one so it wasn't bad. I still have those "craters" left behind by the virus on my forehead and my leg. I'm just grateful my kids will never have to go through this thanks to vaccines!

Remember, even if you dodge the vaccine and prevent harm from it, the danger from the disease is STILL THERE. You can still get the disease, and are at higher risk for complications. Meaning you have to cross the road of exposing yourself to risk at SOME POINT: the risk from vaccines, or the risk from the disease. I for one, would feel better choosing the probably less risky option and be done with it, safe in the knowledge that I've substantially reduced risk in the long term.
Unvaccinated kids immune system: "I'll have two flues, a bronchitis, a pneumonia with extra fever, two measles, one with encephalitis, and an advanced case of diphtheria."
Rose Orchard this point was addressed in the video and the data showed that a case like this was a 1 in a billion and even then the details on these deaths claiming to be from vaccines are very sketchy.
@Rose Orchard Oh please are you ignorant to the case of parents not vaccinating their children and right after the child gets sick and dies? C'mon, while sure it _may_ happen and _may_ be caused by the vaccine*, it's still far safer to just get the bloody vaccine, and we end up with fewer dead kids. (* as the video and further reading says, there aren't any studies proving this, only anecdotal evidence by people who aren't doctors and typically do not have much medical knowledge)

I didn't get the chicken pox vaccine growing up, so when I got it as a kid, it sucked so much. My sister had a pox mark on her face into her teens. Plus we both have a higher risk of getting shingles later in life. Thanks mom and dad.
R.I.P., hope your parents realize what the hell was wrong with them, or as an alternative for them to "naturally" die by a disease that their body didn't know even existed.
Me too, my mother was a nutritionist in a hospital, but she didn't get us the vaccine for the wrong reason. My country is at developing status, meaning we don't have much vaccines, instead, parents here let their child get the pox after birth so that the symptoms are lesser and not as harmful, they basically had us get my immune system clapped to make vietnam war veterans, I caught the pox at 3rd grade though, and now I have 2 scars below my eyelids. Sad thing is, is that my family is not prone to getting pimples or acne, so I could've had compact and smooth looking skin. Won't complain though.

I don't know if it's the same in your country as here in germany but here, I think, you can just go to your doctor and ask what vaccines you should get (like measles, smallpox and others like this)
I'm not sure how these things work exactly, but you can always ask a doctor to help you out. I imagine that there is a medical record showing what you've been vaccinated with before, and what you need now, but again, I'm not sure what the specifics are, like if you need to provide your health insurance information. I think your best bet is to go to a doctor's office for consultation and explain your situation, so then they can see what they can do (unless anyone else has some better advice) oh, and if you still live with your mom, wear long sleeves after you get vaccinated, so she doesn't see the little bandaid on your arm and subjects you to her wrath

It implies that having autism is intrinsically bad, some form of sickness that must be avoided. But... that's not what it is. In the world we inhabit it is a disability, yes; however having autism doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you.
No it doesn't imply anything. It's either factual or isn't true. Because something is true shouldn't cause anyone to be offended, they just just accept whether that thing is true or not. I could not find any official statement from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) stating that there is a vaccine with a 50% efficacy rate.
Btw you never debunked anything I said yet and good luck trying!
The biggest message is that when your kid is allergic to a vaccine...you have to promote vaccines to others to save your kid.
Perhaps they should test kids to see whether allergic or not.

"As long as I can get measles and hepatitis I'm cool. But not temporary rashes, swelling, watery eyes, etc. those are really annoying, I'd rather die."
@@friendlyoldpieceofapoppedp711 nah what he's saying is that ignorant karens who don't check if their child is allergic to a vaccine and have them take it, only to suffer serious effects creates the misinformation of "oOOo vAccinES KiLLeD mY chILD DonT gEt VaccINES"
Have to be honest. My mom is antivax so i Never have been vaccinated (except tetanus) I tried to always convince her that vaccinating your child isn’t as bad as she thinks but she wouldn’t believe me.
Luckily I now have a video which she might understand and maybe she will change her mind.
Ps: I’m now turning 18 so I might go and get vaccines myself. Don’t know which ones to get though cause I have never been confronted with this topic my whole life.
just discuss it with the doctor :) they will know what to recommend and the intervals between the different vaccines.
I think your best bet is to go to a doctor's office for consultation and explain your situation, so then they can see what they can do (unless anyone else has some better advice)
oh, and if you still live with your mom, wear long sleeves after you get vaccinated, so she doesn't see the little bandaid on your arm and subjects you to her wrath
If you want to it's up to you. Just like with killing yourself and inbreeding. Your body, your choice.
I would suggest to go to your personal doctor and ask for vaccine book to put your vaccination on record.

The idea that vaccines cause autism is so frustrating to hear, even now that it is rarely said. It implies so much negativity, and is fundamentally misunderstanding what autism is. It implies that having autism is intrinsically bad, some form of sickness that must be avoided. But... that's not what it is. In the world we inhabit it is a disability, yes; however having autism doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you.
It literally means something is wrong with you. What kind of psycho would PROMOTE causing it in children.
No it doesn't imply anything. It's either factual or isn't true. Because something is true shouldn't cause anyone to be offended, they just just accept whether that thing is true or not. Your argument is a fallacy because it's based on the notion that if a thing were true it would offend you, which doesn't have anything to do with it being true or not.
