I've never heard this version before, but that was a cool cover of The Guess Who's classic ! Lenny is cool! I really like the songs from him that I'm familiar with. The Guess Who were a cool band too, from the early 1970s. They had a string of hits, and they reformed into Bachman-Turner Overdrive - what a band that was! Thanks for a great reaction, and welcome back!
Ive always liked this cover. Im a guitarist and I never quite liked the Gibson Flying V... but... after seeing this video on MTV back in the day I went out and got a Flying V. It just has that classic hard rock tone with a good punch behind it. Still have it today! BTW.. the girl in this video is Heather Graham.
Kat is BACK! Love Lenny's retro Rock sound. Great artist. Another cool, albeit recent artist you may like is Leon Bridges (Coming Home song). His music has a 60's retro Soul R&B vibe. I'll throw out another while I'm thinking of it. The Alabama Shakes. They've a female lead and have a Southern Rock Bluesy Soul sound... Thanks for the reaction 🤙
Hello Cash, I haven't seen you on here since the live stream. ... Well, I have always had a hard time accepting songs that are remakes. The only exceptions I make are "C*m On Feel The Noize" from Quiet riot, and "Shadows Of The Night" from Pat Benatar. But thanks for reacting to this video.
A whole bottle on this song is very generous. Mabye a quarter of a glass of Aussie Pinot. Recommended bottle material! Jeff Buckley , Grace official video. This guy can sing!!
Hi Cash, hope you're doing well. I wasn't familiar with this song, it didn't chart in the UK (Jeez - we're a tough crowd!), but Lenny is certainly an interesting character and all his own work. He's a big Beatles fan and a lot of his music is very influenced by them, despite his Mick Jagger impression at the end of this one. Computer says this song was written by a Canadian band, The Guess Who in 1970, as a tribute to Canadian women! It was indeed used in Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shaqqed Me, you were trying to remember, which also starred Heather Graham, who was the 'American woman' in both the movie and the music video [songfacts.com]. Lenny's biggest hits in the UK were Are You Gonna Go My Way (#4 in 1993) and Fly Away (#1 in 1999). My personal favourite is If I Could Fall In Love, which didn't chart here either but was used on the soundtrack of the movie Blue Crush (2002), a film about hard core competitive surfer girls in Hawaii starring Kate Bosworth and a very young Michelle Rodriguez. That movie's cast feature in the music video as well, and I would recommend it and the movie - the cinematography did for surfing what Top Gun did for Naval aviation. This gets a half glass from me - Lenny has written better songs for himself.
The Guess who version of American woman got to number 19 in the UK charts in May 1970 And would’ve gone much higher had it been given adequate promotion. For sure it is a classic. the original and the best
I LOVE this song. Lenny does a terrific cover!!!
