Great reactions, ladies! To both versions of this song. Just to answer a couple of your questions, the song does time jump but not as much as it might seem. The lady who's taking the class is actually Pink's wife. The scenes jump to him on the road touring and feeling alone, then to what's happening with his wife at the point in time. She's grown tired of his being distant and disinterested when he is at home and as a result began an affair with the professor from the class she's taking. The phone call that happens next is him trying to call home but the professor answers and hangs up on him. He realizes what's happening after 2 or 3 tries and sullenly slides down the wall, letting the receiver dangle from the payphone. This becomes another brick in his wall of isolation and mental deterioration. Looking forward to more pairings like this or a full listen of the album then full watch of the movie! Stay safe!
when approaching the floyd,,it really need to be complete albums at a time,,its how their music was written and intended to be heard,,as a whole cohesive piece,,welcome to the rabbit hole and enjoy the journey
Cast Bob Geldof as Pink Kevin McKeon as Young Pink David Bingham as Little Pink Christine Hargreaves as Pink's mother Eleanor David as Pink's wife Alex McAvoy as Teacher Bob Hoskins as Rock manager Michael Ensign as Hotel manager James Laurenson as Pink's father Jenny Wright as American groupie Margery Mason as Teacher's wife Ellis Dale as English doctor James Hazeldine as Lover Ray Mort as Playground father Robert Bridges as American doctor Joanne Whalley, Nell Campbell, Emma Longfellow, and Lorna Barton as Groupies Philip Davis and Gary Olsen as Roadies
Some familiar names. Bob Hoskins from The Long Good Friday (1979), James Laurenson I remember from Australian series Boney in the early '70s, he played an aborginal detective called Napoleon Bonaparte, James Hazeldine from fire service drama London's Burning, and the gorgeous Joanne Whalley from the series Tin Star and the movie Navy Seals - when she was Joanne Whalley-Kilmer.
I remember the movie version of this song was powerful also. Roger Water's vocals brought the emotion, and David Gilmour's response vocals were a great backup. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Great reaction but certainly watch pink Floyd live especially the pulse concert , pink Floyd are renowned for visually as well as musically and at that concert they didn’t hold back comfortably numb (which is also a track from the wall album ) is recognised as 1 if not the greatest guitar solos it has to be seen and heard to be believed trust me it’s amazing …..a very happy Thanks giving to you both have a great day x
Great channel. Bev is right. The woman he calls the phone is his wife, who moved on with the lecturer. The rock star is on tour trying to call his estranged wife. And yes, he has mommy issues. And daddy issues as well. Daddy got killed during the war. And all the other emotionally stunting problems associated with growing up in post-war England. It's autobiographical. Simply put, Roger Waters (Pink Floyd's lead singer at this point) adapted his life and problems to create the album -- and then the film -- The Wall. The Wall is metaphorical: that which separates Pink from himself and others.
Pink Floyd is well known for their conceptual albums. You would really have to listen to the album or view the film in its entirety as each song is intertwined with the next, telling a complete story. When I was much younger,I enjoyed this movie a couple of times while nicely tripping on LSD. Now,I don’t necessarily suggest that to the ladies, here, but, since wine seems to be their partaking of choice, maybe enjoy the movie whilst sipping on some nice vino. But,to the ladies, you definitely SHOULD watch this movie if you’re enjoying the songs this much.
The film was shown out of competition during the 1982 Cannes Film Festival. The premiere at Cannes. It was like nothing anyone had ever seen before - a weird fusion of live-action, story-telling and of the surreal. Alan Parker "Bugsy Malone " directed. The film's official premiere was at the Empire, Leicester Square in London, on 14 July 1982. It was attended by Waters and fellow Pink Floyd members David Gilmour and Nick Mason, but not Richard Wright, who was no longer a member of the band. It was also attended by various celebrities including Bob Geldof, Pink, lead singer of the Irish rock band the Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s. On 13 July 1985, Geldof and Midge Ure organised Live Aid, a huge event staged simultaneously at the Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. Thanks to an unprecedented decision by the BBC to clear its schedules for 16 hours of rock music, the event was also broadcast live in the UK on television and radio. It was one of the most monumental stage shows in history, with Phil Collins flying on Concorde so that he could play at both Wembley and Philadelphia on the same day.
Great information, thanks Barrie. If I'm not mistaken, your profile pic looks like Dr Who's car 'Bessie', which was a 1950s Ford Popular made to look like a vintage car, and used in the Jon Pertwee era?
imo, this is a great song by an even greater band ! Really great! According to Wiki : "The Wall tells the story of Pink, an embittered and alienated rock star. As told through the song "Mother", part of Pink's sense of alienation comes from being raised by an overprotective single mother, who lost her husband, Pink's father, in World War II." I feel this song has special meaning for Roger Waters, as his father was killed in WWII before he even knew him. But I also think this song - as art - reflects a great many people having a parent serving in the military and being deployed away for long periods (perhaps even killed in action, never to return). These people have struggled the same way that "Pink" struggled in The Wall and in this song "Mother." Thanks for a great reaction, ladies - a really good one. For me, I would give it a full bottle :-) See you next time :-)
You want to hear some beautiful Pink Floyd.... The Division Bell album is nothing short of a complete masterpiece..! The entire album is amazing but I suggest starting with "High Hopes", "Wearing The Inside Out" and "A Great Day For Freedom" David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd) also has a 1978 solo album that is amazing as well... "No Way Out Of Here", "Raise My Rent", "I Cant Breathe Anymore" and "No Way" are my suggestions. Enjoy!
Thanks for a great dual reaction ladies! I'll raise a glass & bottle to both (songs & you!) I knew the album version first & loved it, but was amazed at how they could reinvent the song and make it fit the narrative & visuals of the movie so well. The 'lullaby' background is perfect. Definitely check the entire movie!!
Girls, you caught me, I have been a fan of Pink Floyd for 30 years, I met them when I went to college, in a Latin country, it was very difficult to meet a legendary British band, Greetings from Panama.
Another excellent job Ladies! Kudos to you both! Keep up the nice work/job/channel! I am a die hard Pink Floyd Fan! 61 yrs old and have listened to them my entire life! Take care you two!
I've been a Floydian for 45 yrs.Just can't wear it out.Whats more is I have discovered that watching reaction videos makes me feel somewhat like I am hearing it for the first time in a way.
@@timetogoanybodyoutthere3899 yes , I know exactly what you mean ! There's a fresh take when listening to music through a reaction channel, I think in part due to the reactors first time listening to it - it seems to reacquaint us with those elements we first discovered years ago 🙂🎶
I just discovered this channel. Great reaction! Please listen to Young Lust from the same album. At the end of the song you hear Pink trying to call his wife and what happens is heartbreaking. The amazing part (from what I’ve read) is that it was an actual operator who had no idea she was being used for the album and you can hear the honest concern in her voice. This whole album/movie is brilliant!
The woman in the bar was his estranged wife. 'The one from the registry office' whom Pink is trying to call throughout the clip. Watch the movie, you'll really enjoy it.
Hello again ladies, The movie is well worth watching. The entire story becomes more clear. Another song by PF that I would like to see you react to is actually ( sung? ) by the backup singers called The Great Gig In The Sky.
It was sung by studio singer Clare Torry, in two takes. They told her to sing about birth, life, death and everything in between, without using words. She did it twice and said 'Sorry, that's what I've got' and left, thinking she had let them down. She had in fact laid down a masterpiece.
@@tahoemike5828 great information. Always have liked that song. Really interesting story. All I knew was what I have seen on the videos of concerts where they use three of the backup singers. Thanks.
It seems that you guys are considering watching the movie, that would be great. If you're still on the fence I'd like to recommend another movie clip similar to this one, for the song When The Tigers Broke Free, which tells the story of Pink learning of his father's death in WWII. The song was left off the album for some reason, which is a shame as it is one of the most powerful moments in the movie.
Cant go wrong with PF, I like watching your reactions nice to see mature women (more my age), I have seen PF twice in concert, my all time band.....I think all of your PF reactions have been full bottles.
I haven't seen the movie or heard this version in 25+ years. That absolutely gutted me. To answer your questions, the video features Pink, both as an adult in the present, and in memory, as a child. He is married to the pretty girl who can't coax him out of his drug-induced catatonic state, and towards the end of the video she is seen getting involved with another man. The video starts with him trying unsuccessfully to reach her by phone (as he is on tour in the US). This failure to connect causes an avalanche of memories from his childhood, and from the good and bad times with his wife. The video ends with him making another attempt to reach out to his wife. Many are suggesting that you watch the movie, and I would like to recommend it as well. It tells the story more coherently than the album. However if you're only going to listen to individual songs, the live versions from their Pulse show are absolutley stunning, both musically and visually. Pink Floyd has recently uploaded remastered versions of the whole show to youtube.
Great reaction to both of these versions ladies. It would be great to see the two of you react to the whole movie, clip at a time of course, but from start to finish. You’ll enjoy it. It’s an amazing piece of work. Keep up the good work.👍
I'm coming in strong here... not even trying to pretend I'm not under the influence! .... I remember as a wee boy, I watched a movie and instantly had a crush on the actress. I was probably about 6 or 7 years old. You both have me feeling that same way! It's crazy! Her name is Goldie H. Beautiful girls! All the best! Cheers, take care girls xx
Always bizarre to hear some grey images of my country described as "visually stimulating" - thank you very much (I think). Nice to see Bob Hoskins there at the airport - I'm not a fan of the British gangster film genre but The Long Good Friday is an outstanding movie I would recommend, and also has a great soundtrack, worthwhile for (film composer and member of bands Curved Air and Sky) Francis Monkman's theme alone. I'm not a fan of this song but a great reaction. I'll have a glass of wine later while you're having your Thanksgiving lunches! Best wishes to all our friends in the United States.
This song is the story of my life growing up. Without going into great detail ... my father was suicidal, ... my father wanted to kill me ... my father routinely terrorized me ... my mother feared anyone knowing ... my mother swore me to secrecy ... I was 9 years old ... To this day I do not remember anything between the ages 10 and 14. Mother! Mother! Mother! Ooooh I long for Gilligan's Island.
hate to hear that I hope you have built a beautiful life man , I didn't have the best childhood either but you can definitely overcome your upbringing.
Yes that was Bob Hoskins (RIP) who played Pink tour manager. You'll both need to listen to The Wall album start to finish and then watch the whole movie.
You gals really gotta listen to the entire double-album (first), and then see the entire movie. The main character -- named 'Pink Floyd' (when he's a kid his pal calls him 'Pinky') -- is both the adult rock musician played by Bob Geldof (Bob Hoskyns played his manager) and the kid is him when he was a boy growing up in the early 1950s, the story unfolding with constant flashbacks to when he was that kid. The woman "from the Registry Office" is his wife, who we see is cheating on him with the Peace activist. The phone call he makes from the payphone, just as this song ends, has him calling home . . . but a man answers the phone -- the guy his wife is cheating on him with. That scene ends with him slumping against the brick wall, the phone dangling out of his hand . . . an image mirrored by an earlier scene of his father during WW2 at Anzio, getting killed by a German airplane bombing the site as he'd been attempting to call for air support -- that phone dangling out of his father's dead hand. Both the original album and the film of THE WALL are brilliant, with certain differences between the two, such as the inclusion of WHEN THE TIGERS BROKE FREE in the film only (not on the album), a song specifically about how the main character (i.e. Roger Waters) learned about how his father died in the war, when he was just an infant. 'Pink Floyd' -- the character in the film -- is half an autobiographical figure based on Roger Waters and half based on Syd Barrett, the original front-man of the group who -- how do I put this? -- kinda lost his sanity.
If you two have four bottles of wine, I would recommend listening to Tuck And Patti's studio recording of Castles Made of Sand/Little Wing which is one of the best recordings ever made. One guitar and one vocal. Taking two of Jimi Hendrix's songs and arranging them as one. Just do it in private and let me know your reaction to it. lol Ya'll are doing a great job.
Grrat reaction. Here is some of my philosophy on Pink Floyd: if you wish to listen to a song of theirs, you may as well listen to the album from cover to cover. Although that could pertain to any band, but that certainly goes for Pink Floyd. For this album in particular, listening to it in general is one thing. But once you watch the film, the message becomes totally apparent. We understand how Pink (Bob Geldof) depends on himself to accept the tragedy of his parents' death and the abuse from his teachers. When I saw the film for the first time, it occurred to me that, "Many people would accept that kind of life in many ways." It made me realize that living such a life can break something inside of you. Plus, we see how Pink becomes a fascist. Throughout time he ponders on the loss of his father. Pink figured the only way to conquer that thought is to become what he strongly dislikes (Nazis) In short, I guess the easiest way to sum up the film is this: The only way to understand how something happens is to live it in the first place. Therefore his wall he built, pushed him to that point.
Hi there Ladies ! LoL wow If you say it was confusing it s because you cant hear and see everything that s in that song ! Every sounds and scenes are flashes from the story already seen previously in the movie ! like the phone or the school principal and him as a kid ! you just watch the movie and you ll say ha ok now i understand more ! i m french from Quebec and 65 . I saw Pink Floyd a few times in Montreal and also saw The Wall movie in a super sound theater on Ste-Catherine st. the same theater and sound system i saw Earthquake !Back in the 70s . you won t get the whole feeling without a super sound ! but please do watch together with the best sound possible ... it s something that will blow your minds ...LoL bye for now !
That is Sir Bob Geldof playing "Pink." Bob Geldof was a member of the Boomtown Rats, an actor, and got knighted for thinking up, producing, and pulling off Live Aid. You might check out the Boomtown Rats song "I Don't Like Mondays." It was a hit, but the story it tells is dark.
Bob geldof was the first person to drop the F .bomb on live television. He was trying to get people to give money. He said pretty much. Just give us some fucking money. 🤣🤣
They cut it off there..... if it rolled further, you would have seen he was calling his wife.....who is in bed with that lecturer.... but a man answers.....this song, on the album, is a transition song. After the trauma of his father being killed in WW2, and his mother smothering/neglecting him, the story focuses on his marriage being destroyed. Just another trauma (brick) to add to his building a wall of isolation around himself.. It's the final song on the first side of a double album.
The character in the movie The Wall. Is about the original lead singer and co-founder of Pink Floyd slowly slipping away from reality. And brain frying himself on drugs. Which really happened and he had to end up being put away into insane asylum for years. The rest of the band and the group went on and continued to make sure that his family and him got taken care of.
Saw and enjoyed your reactions to both versions of Pink Floyd's "Mother". Now for an extra cool treat, check out the version of "Mother" by Natalie Maines, from her solo album. The Dixie Chicks lead lady just nails a great version, and it's as good but different when a female sings it. I promise you will love it, if you'll check it out.
Definitely must watch the movie (and react to it please). ;) Your reactions are very interesting and spot on. It changes from the usual reaction videos with pimply teens just going "Woahh! The vibe Man! The vibe!" :D`
If you follow the storyline in the movie, you will see that the progression has him marrying the redhead. He is calling her at home in England. He is a rock n roll star at this point and he is on-tour in America. She is taking a class, and because her husband (Pink) is despondent, uncaring and aloof . . .and on the road a lot. She strikes up an affair with the teacher of the class. Later, he calls again and teacher answers the phone while in bed with his (Pink's) wife. Pink is a full-blown psychotic, at this point !
How many people knows that Bob Geldof is the man. I have seen several times with excerpts form the Wall and most have commented on the various actors in the movie except Bob Geldof.
Great reactions, ladies! To both versions of this song. Just to answer a couple of your questions, the song does time jump but not as much as it might seem. Stay safe!

🍷🍷🍷
Watch the whole movie❤❤ a real education in many many ways
Great reaction gals. Regards from Chile.
Chile...one of my "fav" countries!!! Thanks for joining..🍷🍷🍷🍷

Go for it! Grateful Dead 🌹
Franklin's Tower
Not what you're thinking I would bet.
Please more Pink Floyd 🙏
There you go two mothers who get it mothers who have overwhelming desire to protect there babies but ladies it ain't always the right way
You guys really need to see the whole movie.
Yes...we plan to🍷
you need to see the movie!.
If you two have four bottles of wine, I would recommend listening to Tuck And Patti's studio recording of Castles Made of Sand/Little Wing which is one of the best recordings ever made. One guitar and one vocal. Taking two of Jimi Hendrix's songs and arranging them as one.
Just do it in private and let me know your reaction to it. lol
Ya'll are doing a great job.
Lol🍷🍷
i have seen the movie it is a must see
Grrat reaction.

Great doing the song then movie version. Another great duo would be to do both 'Comfortably Numb' versions.
🍷🍷🍷
Subbed
Thank you🍷🍷
Bob and another guy wrote the 80s Christmas song do they know it's Christmas time at all. The guy playing the adult pink.
I would love it if you two watched the movie.... I'm always interested in how this movie affects people.
We are definitely going to find it🍷🍷
imo, that would be a great idea !
...remember me?, I m the one of the registry office...no more words.
Watch full movie
Thanks for tuning in🍷🍷
Pink Floyd is plain "Badass".
You should watch the movie. Its all about losing his father in the war and building an emotional wall around himself.
The younger woman from the “registry office” is Pink’s wife.
Well hats off to your husband's lol.
This GenX has seen this before.
I think both of you ladies need to drink a bottle of wine and watch this movie in its entirety.
Yes..def recognized him🍷
id love to see how you and Bev would react to Nightwish -Ghost Love Score ..live @ Wacken 2013 ...make sure you have your wine bottles ready
We will give it a try🍷🍷
Great reactions. I think you would enjoy reacting to Stevie Ray Vaughan Texas Flood Live at the El Macambo. Keep up the great work.
🥰🥰🥰🥰
I’m wondering if these two lady’s were around when the wall came out.
Love that question...🍷🍷
deep as fuck
Pour yourself some wine, chew a gummy and watch the movie. It is fantastic!!!!!
Ladies you need to see the movie 😇
The movie versions of the wall are just as good if not better than the album at times.
Bob geldof was the first person to drop the F .bomb on live television. He was trying to get people to give money. He said pretty much. Just give us some fucking money. 🤣🤣
god bless you beautiful women rock on ladies too attractive have fun
🍷🍷🍷
They cut it off there..... if it rolled further, you would have seen he was calling his wife.....who is in bed with that lecturer.... but a man answers.....this song, on the album, is a transition song.
After the trauma of his father being killed in WW2, and his mother smothering/neglecting him, the story focuses on his marriage being destroyed. Just another trauma (brick) to add to his building a wall of isolation around himself.. It's the final song on the first side of a double album.
Thanks for more background🍷🍷
Incredible. .
What an amazing song from an amazing album by an amazing band !
Actually that was his wife that was screwing around on him when he was on tour.
Thanks🍷🍷🍷
Definitely must watch the movie (and react to it please). ;)
Your reactions are very interesting and spot on. It changes from the usual reaction videos with pimply teens just going "Woahh! The vibe Man! The vibe!" :D`
🍷🍷🍷
@@WineNotReactions Santé!
Might I suggest Comfortably Numb from this album?
It's generally considered Pink Floyd's best song.
🍷🍷🍷🍷
Oh yes that was Geldorf🍷
Try “Monsters” by James Blunt. Powerfully moving song.
This isnt the original video for this song. This vid is taken directly from the film . The song mother from the album is different
