    Background of song.
Dave Grohl was sleeping in a sleeping bag on a friend's floor having just gotten divorced from photographer Jennifer Youngblood, and as a consequence was homeless. On top of that Grohl had no access to his own bank account, and both his drummer, William Goldsmith, and guitarist, Pat Smear, were on the verge of quitting the Foo Fighters. Dave returned home to Virginia for Christmas 1996 and wrote down the lyrics to this simple little ballad about falling in love with a new woman in a span of 45 minutes. It did well enough to keep the band together and get his life back on track. In Grohl’s words:
"That song’s about a girl that I’d fallen in love with and it was basically about being connected to someone so much, that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly."

For Everlong Dave’s 2nd album “The Colour And The Shape” he redid his old drummers parts William goldsmith. goldsmith found out and quit at the same time grohl was getting divorced and fell in love with Louis post during a talk he went to a friends house talking about things he failed at and even his close friend Pat smear was leaving too. Dave went to Virginia at his moms house came back with two new songs to show his producer “Walking After you” and “Everlong” we all know which one the band is most known for

Couple of fun facts about this song. It was originally recorded in 97, but it was "reinvented" in 98 in Howard Stern's show as accoustic version, as more calm ballad. And this performance is combination of both, very personal 1st part and energetic second (like the original). Since 2001 it can be heard on one of the most known wedding ever, on Friends show when Monica and Chandler got married. And it played couple years later on my wedding as well. :)

Thank you for a great reaction Inna. I've sometimes wondered if Dave Grohl had a stash of unfinished Kurt Cobain songs that found life in the Foo Fighters. At the very least I think he will always have elements of Nirvana in his songs. The line "Breathe out, so I can breathe you in" is the perfect example of that influence. Kurt would have delivered it with more mood and with a sarcastic tone, but I could totally imagine him singing that line. Anyway, enough of that. Thank you again! 🦒

Dave Grohl wrote 'Everlong' after falling in love w/ Louise Post, the singer/ guitarist of the band Veruca Salt, after his first divorce around 1996/ '97... it became a hit single from the Foo Fighters' 2nd album 'The color and the shape'... in 1997. Sadly, they broke up a few years later... and Dave Grohl fell in love again w/ Jordyn Blum, whom he married in 2003 and now has 2 children with... He wrote songs on their 2002 album 'One by one'... for Jordyn, one of which was 'Disenchanted lullaby' 🤘🤘
I remember going to this Foo Fighters tour (2007) for the album 'Echoes, silence, patience and grace'... and they opened w/ the song 'Let it die'... and played an extensive concert w/ an acoustic set... and they played this same version of 'Everlong' (which is different from the studio version) ... The show I went to in Minneapolis was not sold out, but they sold out Wembley stadium in London, UK a few months later in 2008 which was filmed for a DVD and included guest performances by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page (guitar) and John Paul Jones (bass)
A live Foo Fighters DVD 'Anywhere but home' was filmed in 2003 on their 'One by one' tour... this was their 3rd live DVD 'Live at Wembley stadium' in 2008... An acoustic live set was released in 2006 as 'Skin and bones'

There was a DVD released, it looks like it's taken from both nights at Wembley and didn't have the full setlist. I can't find a full video but should be individual videos for each song

I love me some Foo Fighters. But if you are ready for a rabbit hole I'm going to suggest you check out John Farnham (might as well go Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) Help (Beatles cover who the Beatles said was better than their original) and You're the Voice which is the signature song and also we call John "The Voice" for good reason. He is from Aus, you've done AC/DC and there is plenty of other good stuff from Aus, John is just the start of the rabbit hole.
