    With the new FCPX 10.7, the scrolling timeline now stops scrolling when you put the cursor over a clip. This allows you to make changes to the clip without having to stop the playback. The scrolling will resume when you move your cursor away from the clip. 😉

    I use a lot of images from Keynote presentations. If you import a still image, you can't increase its duration. And when exporting from Keynote, if you export as a single slide as a still image, it creates a folder structure and places the image in it. But if you export a single slide as video, you don't get the folder junk. And when you import into FCP, you can change its duration.

  • @motionfxes
    @motionfxes Рік тому +1

    In Motion 5, you can even select several parameters (size, position, etc) and drag them onto a different layer. It would be a great feature in FCP, eventhough, the paste atributes is also very useful (and does not exist in Motion).

    I'm a relatively new editor in FCPX and I'm curious how you would deal with ten takes of the same 3-5 minute monologue.Every take is slightly different, sometime containing improvisations. I have synced all takes with the sound and made them compound clips. How to best compare and contrast now? It gets confusing. I went through each one, there is a main take, but there are also bits and pieces of the other takes I like. One thing that helped is stacking the first part of the shot on top of each other in a timeline and then turning on/off different clips. I was wondering wether experienced FCPX editors have a method for that. So far, I love keywording. I wish there was a way to visually label things within the clip itself.

    • @matthewTobrien
      @matthewTobrien  Рік тому

      Great question! Two things: I typically use Synchronized Clips for syncing audio to picture in narrative projects.
      Have you explored FCP’s Audition feature? Great solution for exactly what you’re trying to do:
      support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/intro-to-auditions-verbbd3587d/mac

    • @Ernoburger
      @Ernoburger Рік тому

      @@matthewTobrien Hi, thank you! Yes, I've looked at Auditions but with ten clips it got a little cumbersome to horizontally switch between the clips in the pop up. The clips also have slightly different lengths, so different things happen at different times. However, would you recommend perhaps looking at the compound clips in the browser and marking different in and out points there instead of stacking them in the timeline? I stacked all ten temporarily on the timeline because it also gives me a visual sense of the length of the takes. I turn them on and off as needed for viewing ('V'). I will get rid of those for the edit and just do it in the main timeline, but for right now just for viewing and clip selection purposes, they're stacked up. However, doing it in the browser instead and marking in and out points there perhaps makes more sense? By the way, I had to synchronize manually, so that's why I call them compounded clips.

    • @Ernoburger
      @Ernoburger Рік тому

      @@matthewTobrien Just a super quick update about the "many takes" problem. I figured out something that you have probably talked a lot about in your videos: Using the browser to its full extent. Selecting and keywording parts of clips is so much easier in the browser. I then could go back and call up only the keyworded bits and pieces. Using keyboard controls (j, k, l) and arrow keys, you can quickly jump between the parts of interest for comparison/contrast. Using the browser was something I had neglected. I had tried to do it all in the timeline.

    Tip (or Trick...) - TITLES.
    If you, like me, copy and paste titles all the time, I discovered the following operation when I first started using FCP:
    1) Place the cursor (or whatever it's called...) on the timeline where you want the copied/pasted title to appear.
    2) Scroll to where the title is that you want to copy.
    3) Select the title and copy it. (I always use Command-C.)
    4) Immediately press Command-V.
    The title is pasted where your cursor was placed and you are taken there. Select and edit the new title. VOILA!
    I don't know if this works with other items in the same fashion, because I haven't actually stretched my mind to trying it... (Likely, everyone knows about this and I'm just spitting into the wind...)
    CHEERS!

    • @matthewTobrien
      @matthewTobrien  Рік тому +1

      I always use Option + V to paste my titles out of habit, but Command + V works as well because it'll paste it at the level the item that was copied was at... If that makes sense. But good to know about cursor location for it!
