The title template is a tool I will use in my videos often. I wasted so much time in the past with titles that I just stopped using them to make editing faster. Thank you for this video!🔥
I like the last one, it gives a lot of opportunities. Didn't know about this function in mac. And if we're talking about overlays: I've created custom one with all the guidelines and marks I needed (using certain colors) and just used shortcut from Final Cut for show/hide custom overlay.
Man the movie your clips without the music moving with it tip was amazing! I have been using iMovie and just switched to Final Cut Pro and had that issue on both
Converting to vertical footage lends itself to optimize footage shot with an AI tracker PTZ camera (Obsbot Tail Air). I shoot events where presenter slides are often more important than the perambulating speaker. Confining his centered torso into a slender box then I can have the wider slide box next to it.
Wow there was a lof tips that will fasten my edits. Effect deleting and saving title presets for example. And yes gotta use that show horizon trick too. Thanks Dylan!
These are awesome man, great work as always. 🔥 Do you or anyone else know how to compound multiple clips on the timeline at the same time? (For example, I need 50 different 9:16 vertical videos all converted to separate compound clips for the 16x9 ratio (for a screen splitter plugin), and yet I need to compound clip one clip at a time, it's extremely tedious and I can't find a way to "select all" and compound them separately.
Thanks so much, Ben! Hmmm I see. I don't know of a way to do it. You're talking about like batch compounding with one click or so, right? Not sure there is a way to do that 😕
Hahaha great usage of the emoji! Almost no one uses them that's a member so I'm stoked to see it being used. Thanks a ton for the kind words. And I was just messing around, it wasn't my birthday and I'm certainly not 19 lol. My birthday is November 16th though!

No problem, amigo! Happy that the tips helped out 🤘🏼 I had quite a few other good ones I excluded, just to keep the tips down to 8. I'll have to think of another video title that will catch people's attentions and include them there.
@@dylanjohndickerson Cool, can’t wait! Your videos have helped so freakin much already 🙏🏽 Let me know if I can give back somehow 👊🏽 Always when I have felt stuck and wanted to ”Level Up” my stuff, there’s been two options. Going wider or deeper. Both have their benefits but are very different routes you know.
Great video as always!!! Hey is there a way I can make a short cut to scale up a clip … I use scale up to 115 all the time it would be great to select a clip and hit a button to do that action… let me know thanks
Thanks so much! Ya definitely. I have mine set up so when I need to jump cut to a scaled up clip of myself, I just hit Option E. I talk about this in another videos on my channel, but just increase the scale and position the way you like, go to your inspector window and go down to 'save effects preset'. Click that and make sure only the transform points are selected. Then once that's saved, find it in your effects browser, right click and hit 'make default video effect'. Now, every time you want to scale up, you just hit Option E and it'll scale up for you.
that Horizon shortcut just won you a subscribe! Thank you! Finally! I don’t understand why Final Cut doesn’t allow you to assign a shortcut to this internally, so weird!
Some sweet tips! Thanks. But hey wait!! Dylan, I got a tip for you… Background rendering is fine, really, just set your cache to outside your library (I have a dedicated folder on my desktop for all caches) then flush it at the end of a project, or whenever you feel like it. This works great for me, tell me what you think.
Thanks for watching, Bruce! The other issue though is that it slows down your computer. It's just not necessary in my opinion. If you're having trouble playing back a clip or two, just click it and hit Control R to render just those clips. And if your whole timeline has trouble playing back, might as well just transcode to ProRes Proxy. Just my opinion though!
I don’t really get any slowdowns - I guess it’s a lot about the type of work I do, short-form, often quite graphics heavy (logo, text overlays, clip stacking etc) rarely more than 10mins long. I imagine if I was cutting someone like a 1hr doc, bg-rendering off would prob be a good move.
Some lovely tidbits here 👍 I don't get why people hate background render so much. If you use a lot of titles, effects or transitions often they won't play back smoothly without being rendered first. I leave it on 🤠
It depends on your computer. Mine play back fine. However if there is a clip that's 'heavy', so say I have tons of 3rd party plugins on it and it's having trouble playing back, I just select the clip and hit Control R to render out JUST that clip. That way the whole timeline isn't rendered out.
hello Dylan, thank's for you'r work. I have a question. Format of my camera file is MOV, is it better if I convert these files in to apple prores before work in fcpx? thank' s a lot!!!
