Good stuff. Knew most of these but not all. The thing that drives me crazy about the timeline is that if you fit in an entire project within the screen it's too tiny to see what's going on and vice versa. When you're playing/advancing the video and it reaches the end on right side of screen you have to manually adjust the timeline to center it within the editing window. It doesn't adj. automatically. I want the playhead then to go back to the beginning left like a typewriter or am I mad? Another thought is that back in the old days you could hit some arrow? key? to forward select or backward select all footage and or do something with gaps with a single key or perhaps button near the timeline. I think this option is gone or it's improved but found myself looking for this old way many times.
I wonder if CommandPost would allow you to do what you described in the first paragraph... I have it installed and would need to check. And yes, I remember that keyboard shortcut - I think you hit a key on the keyboard three times and it enabled a selection tool that if you clicked on a clip that clip and all clips to its right would be selected. Can't remember what the key was though...
I learned something new today, even though it's a beginner's tip. Option V will change my editing in FCP! Hahaha, I used to hate it when I needed to copy and paste, and it would go straight to my magnetic timeline. I never knew that Option V is the solution to that frustration. Thank you

If possible help new max users understand Mac OS from Windows user perspective. Can we select what folders to backup on iCloud as currently it’s either on or off making things very confusing?
Haha. Yes. Just CanonLog on the EOS R and then graded using FilmConvert Nitrate. Pretty simple and the EOS R - although it's getting a bit old - records at a high data rate and makes a pretty nice image for an older mirrorless camera.

Now don't get me wrong, I often do a refresher before I make a video and double-check as much of what I'm teaching as I can. Some of the keyboard shortcuts are so second nature that I sometimes don't remember the keys by name just by feel.
How do you paste to a specific track? Or I sent to a specific range within a specific track? Not just primary or at the very top. The old NLEs allowed target track in out edits. FCPX is wonky in that way but I know there must be something I'm missing.
Well, there aren't any tracks in FCP so you can't paste to a specific area of the timeline. You can either paste clips into the Primary Storyline or above the Primary Storyline. If you're copy and pasting audio or clips that are below the Primary Storyline, FCP will automatically paste the clips below when you Command + V them.
Thanks for the reply! What would be nice is a 'range replace' or 'range paste' type of action. I'd like to be able copy something from one project and insert it specifically in another project without the copied segments defaulting to the very top. I do a ton of car dealer ads for example and many of the elements are duplicated. They are often above the primary & secondary timelines, but not at the top. @@matthewTobrien
Have you tried using the Option + R keyboard shortcut to take a clip that's in your Browser and replace a clip in your timeline with the clip that's in the Browser? I'll often use Shift + F on a clip in one timeline to locate that clip in the Browser and then switch to another timeline, navigate to the clip I want to replace and then use Option + R to replace it with the selection that's in the Browser. Not as efficient as what you're suggesting but it could be helpful for your workflow.
I have not used option R. That's interesting, I could create compound clips for what I need to place/replace. Did you have a tutorial on using that command?@@matthewTobrien
With C you select a clip and if you hold CMD and push left or right arrows you can change your selection or lift it up from primary storyline with CMD OPT UP. But X is more interesting because with it you select a range of a clip and if you, for example, hit CTRL T, your basic title will snap right on that range. It works with everything from the Browser - titles, clips, audio, - as long as you are not dragging it to the timeline but selecting it in the Browser and then hitting Q. No matter how much media you’ve selected, it would connect exactly to the range.
With X allowing you to select a clip and have the Range selected, you can export that clip out of Final Cut or you could use Control + R to render that selection. I'm sure there are a few more reasons why you'd select the range of clip versus just selecting the clip - I'd have to think on that a bit more.
