    How not to drive up that hill... At speed into a rock rut. Plus it didn't look stuck when it drove out at the end (possibly with a different driver..!?)

  • @codec_corner
    @codec_corner 6 років тому +12

    when stuck should have used all terrain progress control. its a feature that can get you unstuck even when all 4 wheels are spinning in sand

  • @sebilata75
    @sebilata75 5 років тому +7

    Have you ever heard of: "As slow as possible, as fast as necessary "?. If you drive offroad like in BAJA 500 you should get a RAPTOR. Or the Discovery SVX(different animal). Sorry but the way you drove this Discovery is like you don't know how to do it( which I don't want to believe it) or you wanted to brake or stall the vehicle. Just saying... And for that terrain you can't blame the tires. Again...just saying...

    Why not engage Hill Descent Control and reverse it down the slope?

    • @MegaMonkeyMotorsport
      @MegaMonkeyMotorsport 6 років тому +1

      I'm not sure hill descent works in reverse...that's a good question. Regardless, that hill is so steep that all the weight would be on the rear tires and I wouldn't have been able to steer. The guy who came to recover me said he usually rescues people who have rolled when they try to reverse down the hill. Plus, after I got out of the Rover to get the Maxtrax, my seat belt was locked and wouldn't extend. So, yeah...I wasn't gonna try to back down.

      Emme Hall it works in reverse on my 2002 Freelander, although these systems have come a long way since then. You're right, it's always better to play it safe. Great review!

    If you are fortunate enough to drive a Land Rover or any other high end large vehicle. Do you really care a great deal over gas mileage? I have two F-150s and If I can afford to own two F-150s. I can afford the gas. Even as Obama was president in 2011 with gas prices was over $4.40 a gallon and that cost me around $8,000 to drive back and forth to work for a year. I still loved owning, driving and the comfort of my work F-150 that had a 32 gallon tank. I only hated the gas being that expensive when it shouldn't of been.

    14 mpg!? Fuel is going to cost over $7.00 this summer… now with Russia and Ukraine might be more. Land Rover has to get a more efficient motor. The bmw x7 4.0 we average 21 mpg

    If you're going to "test" vehicles like this offroad and on steep hills, then for fuck sake get someone who can drive the bloody thing. I have a Discovery 4 and could have driven up that little hill without raising a sweat - have been through much worse, and the "NEW" Discovery (even though I don't particularly like them) is reportedly even more off road capable than what I have.
