Hey Shane... I’m a paramedic. I strongly, STRONGLY advise you to get a check up. Just to be on the safe side, head injuries are nothing to play with.. I’ve seen bad outcomes while my patients waited to be checked out. Also, your ankle needs to be looked at as well. We want you as healthy as can be and we care about you.

So glad everyone is okay. Small tip that we have learned with our wooden ramp, roofing shingles nailed to the ramp helps create grip for the wheelchair and them being black heats up in the sun melting the ice. Definitely a lot cheaper then the grip they sell. So super glad Shane is okay and super sorry for the injures that came from this. Those metal ramps really do suck and are so freaking heavy. When i visit my in laws in Colorado with my kids....my worst fear ever is falling while walking on the ice. It is so hard. I am overweight with some minor disabilities myself, and have full body control (relatively speaking) I cannot imagine the terror Shane felt and how helpless Hannah and Liz felt in those split seconds.

I had a good friend who was having pain in his ankle/leg after he had twisted his ankle while out on a run. He said he just had a twisted ankle and he was just fine, fast forward 18 days- his leg was still bothering him & I knew something wasn't right, he was a very strong & healthy 40 year old man, why would his leg hurt when he twisted his ankle? When I told him he should go get checked out, he said that the doctors would laugh at him, & call him a wimp. He passed away from a blood clot on the 19th day after his "twisted ankle". Minor falls or accidents can turn serious. It only takes a couple of hours to go see a doctor.. My friend would still be here if he had taken my advice! And he is right in my opinion. We should tell the people that we love that we love them. Considering the environment I grew up in, it was just not „normal“ to show your love to someone. If you did, then all you got were people saying things like: „Haha, he is in love with her, he is in love with her“, going on for months and months. After an experience like that, you eventually stop showing love to people, which is sad.

Everyone saying why is Hannah laughing, there's a reason. If you've ever dealt with a traumatic experience you know that your body finds ways to deal with it. Some people go into shock and can't speak, some people laugh almost uncomfortably because they know how bad it could have been (I am someone who deals with things the same way), or people get angry. There's 1,000 ways you could react to trauma. She has her own way. It's obvious it isn't due to her "not taking it serious" 🙄

You’re right it’s not a matter of let, but if she asked if he needed help, and he said no, she might be a little more persistent, “hey, please let me help because I’m worried”. It’s not controlling, it’s loving someone and wanting to make sure they are safe and knowing you have the ability to make something safer.

The door was closed and he could not hear me calling for him. We have four dogs and they heard me crying and they all ran to the back door and were barking and whining and scratching at the door. He heard the commotion they were making and he opened the door and rushed out to help. I, mom still have back pain from trying to pull the chair back off the side of the ramp and then off the ground upside down with her in it, We had the same ramp as at your mother. This happen in the summer month. Since that moment on my daughter wore a helmet when on the ramp as requested by her orthopedic doctor. She never wanted to get in a power chair again I must confess that she is Blind but other medical people beforehand thought it would make her more independent. So I am still pushing her but in a manual wheelchair her arms are too short (dwarfism or little people) and hands contraction makes it too difficult to push or reach the wheels. Take care my heart goes out for the both of you. Watch closely for a few more days for any silent complication.

If he had died or been severely injured I suppose it would be more obvious or understandable, the different between independence and just risky but trauma can be just as bad if it scared him.I wasnt there so maybe he would have threw a fit if she said I am holding on to the wheelchair on ice. It would be worth him getting angry but alive, to family. Since he didnt die, just thought he was going to, it's easy to laugh at the thought of him tumbling and screaming for his life, I suppose. If she would have said at the beg of the story in hindsight I should have not asked and just did it or told him, no way but still seems like oh well I asked. I don't know maybe its just me. Seems like people cannot think critically. I would not allow anyone I loved and was watching to be harmed frail parent/partner/child etc. at least not on purpose.
