I was bullied for thinking it was dumb to buy something from Abercrombie that you could buy from Target for cheaper. The rumor mill turned it into "she hates people who shop at Abercrombie."
It feels like kids can never just be kids anymore, and everything they do will be doxxed and titled as “cringe”. Kids could literally breathe and they’d be called cringy. It makes me sad.
@@spicycherrymilk9058 Yeah. And these adults out here only wanting to watch kids shows just to make memes out of it. I remember I had to hide in the corner in middle school just to watch Sophia the first last year. And I genuinely enjoy it. It’s like adults always just try to hyper sexualize regular child behavior, or make their shows into memes. It makes my blood boil.
@@nantae1047 It has nothing to do with “Gen Z energy”. It’s the reason kids are in the hurry to grow up. Little kids see those and think there’s something wrong with liking those shows because of how awful you clown on them. And there comes a defined point where you clown on a show that has good morals kids should learn from, and your preventing those kinds of lessons simply because they think they’re too “silly” to learn. And the reason you don’t have a problem with it is because you already know those life lessons, so you go and look for the hilarious stuff. But kids don’t have that. They need those lessons, and in today’s world? Now than ever. Sophia the first has universal life lesssons, Peppa Pig as well. Imagine never watching your favorite childhood shows you grew up with as a literal child because everyone around you ruined it. This whole “Gen Z energy” is BS. I’m literally apart of generation z, and I recognize that these memes are funny, but are part of the reason these kids want to get grown way too fast.
I worked at Justice for five and a half years, I have some STORIES, but one time a mom was in the fitting room like "That mannequin's outfit is so ugly" and there was like a little girl in the changing room next to her trying on tHAT OUTFIT because she thought it was cute and my friend had to be like, "Oh, that's not very nice! There are a lot of girls who picked that one out for themselves!" like SHUT UP let kids wear what they want to wear
Something I really hate is the fact that 11-14 year old girls will be called “childish“ or “cringe“ for wearing stuff from Claire’s or Justice, but the moment they start “growing up“ or wearing crop tops and makeup, everyone switches up and says “i wish kids were still kids :(“ or “i miss when kids still wore sparkly rainbow clothes.“ cringe culture is so shit, why cant people just wear what they wanna wear without judgement?
Children can't even like childish things anymore. They'll get called "cringe", "fatherless", "bozo", etc. And then everyone says "HOW COME KIDS AREN'T KIDS ANYMORE??? WHY ARE THEY SO MATURE 😭😭😭??" And to those people who say that: It's your fault Jessica.
I hate how everything that a kid does now is deemed as "cringe". A kid who likes girly clothing is "weird", a kid who likes gaming and UA-cam is "cringe", a kid who likes goth clothing is "creepy", etc. Can kids be kids, or do they have to be shamed for everything they do every 5 seconds? It is what makes them happy, so why should they be called names for something that brings them joy?
I agree!! children and especially teens get constantly made to feel ashamed for showing any interest in anything. You literally can’t win. If your trendy you’re acting fake and if you do literally anything else you’re weird. It’s especially sad that adults put that pressure on them, and sometimes even ridicule their own children for being children. The mind and the eye see the world in a way that’s unique to each individual and experiences are exactly what kids need to grow. So they can shape their own worldview and their own interests and truly explore all the aspects of themselves. Cringe culture cancels the unique and the imaginative and sucks the soul out of passion.
@@uniqueen6947 I know and I hate it! No one can wear clothes they like anymore. We might as well walk around nude. We will get made fun of no matter what.
On tiktok i saw a kid who was like 11 playing with fake food and she got hate on twittet i saw a kid who was 12 acting more mature and not playing with toys and she still got hate
@Vicki Zhang I don't understand why people get so shocked when you tell them you like something that they dislike. It's not harming them and just because they don't like it, doesn't mean they should be grossed out because you like it and they don't.
I shopped there when I was 8-10. Then I got into darker and baggy clothes. But kids started shopping there in 2nd grade. I was just to small to fit in their clothes.
I love my band tees and goth get ups, but you know I’m still rockin my red justice sweatpants because I have NOT gotten taller from middle school lmao they’re comfy and shiny and child me loved them so I love them
im in high school i still go there. My only problem is that I don't buy clothes with big ass logos on them (unless its underwear, socks, or hats) which most of justice is. I'm not an advertisement lol.
@consequential corndog Lol I remember when it was around and quite popular. I don’t remember kids actually caring about what brands other people were wearing at that age though.
I remember being in the 8th grade and people teasing me for watching Adventure Time. We were 12/13 so not very grown. So now as an adult I shamelessly watch cartoons to my hearts content.
Same here I was made fun of for liking the dc and marvel movies but now those same ppl watch them. I was 14 and it was looked down upon of you watched Spongebob still like HUH
Cringe culture has played a massive part in the grown-upification of young girls (to more of a degree w girls of color and Black girls) but also... p3dophile culture has played a massive part imo. Like 14 year olds now look wayyy more grown than 14 year olds when I was 14 (2017...).
the grown-up thing- i agree. also like we look so much more grown up now without doing anything tbh too- like my mom looked at a picture of my sister when she was 13, and then looking at me, it was clear i look at least 3 years older. neither of us wear makeup and i was wearing an oversized tee. its so weird.
Facts. As someone in that age range, it’s definitely a huge influence. That and also influencers pushing their styles onto younger audiences who don’t know what they’re doing.
And then people on TikTok defend this adultification by saying they're "living their best life" like, no? Most likely, they're living the life that sick p3dos and school bullies want them to live, because there are literal 10-year-olds looking like FULL GROWN ADULTS. NO.
also can we talk about all of the mini fashionistas on social media with toddlers wearing crop tops and fishnets as if its so cute and normal. I went to shop for my daughter at oldnavy and a lot of the girls clothing is literally just smaller versions of womens clothing. it sucks that i will have to make my daughter choose between age appropriate and being trendy
Question for adults: when would you say it is appropriate for girls to wear crop-tops, and other revealing clothes? I feel like no matter how old you are, you're always too young to wear something.
@@Bethanywi crop tops when you're like 13 because you are just showing your stomach which isn't that inappropriate, other revealing things i don't know.
I literally get made fun of simply because I wear dresses, skirts and pastel colors, mainly pink. It honestly just makes me annoyed. How pathetic do you have to be to make fun of a color that someone likes to wear?
@@mjd4287 It's totally okay! Please, keep following what you really like and even tough people rudeness and meanness is never ok, give yourself enough space to understand that it is not going to be like this forever. In the end, it's better staying with what you truly like that catering to people that you will not see for a long time after you graduate. May you have a very happy life!
Aaaaa I remeber when I was younger and we would just walk into the mall and I would see those stores- and I would like run there and pick some glittery tank top-
I don’t…My mom would take me to stores that were adult clothes, at the age of 7 or 8. I never really wore kid’s clothing. I felt left out because everyone at my old school wore cute clothes. I stopped wearing kid’s clothes when I was 5 or 6.
It sucks how literal children can’t have a fun awkward phase with glitter and sequins and cute animals without being made fun of. I wore justice, but only when I was in late elementary school-early middle school. I cherished any clothes and even little accessories like hair ties and got so hyped whenever I got to go and buy something there. But as I said, in early middle school I stopped wearing justice because I was very desperate to be cool at that time (looking back it probably was because of my social anxiety making me want to avoid standing out, especially in a bad way. so I don’t cringe at the past, I just get kinda sad). Like you said, it was because of how dressing above our age was so ingrained and being “childish” was considered stupid. And I started agreeing with this since I started to discover the internet then. Also certain experiences, for example I remember wearing a sundress with some sequins on it to the beach with some friends one time, and one “friend” of them made fun of it...and not in the friend way, like we weren’t that close and it just felt mean. I didn’t really wear it after that. It’s insane because it was not anything that crazy, just a few sequins at the top. I also used to wear big bows on a headband everyday, but then stopped and got rid of all my bows. I really regret that now and intend to get rebuilding that collection, I think bows can be super cute! I’m just glad I have been able to overcome those insecurities and have much more confidence in my own preferences.
What’s even worse is that what seemed like that fun and awkward phase that a majority of children may go through isn’t normalized. 12-15 year olds these days don’t understand the hype and the enjoy, end of justice jumpsuits, or glitter bands and slime, or most of the early-mid 2010 trends and styles. Everyone is in a rush to grow up fast in today’s society, it’s difficult to even know someone age anymore by the way they dress. I really do miss those days because you can be a kid simply, even though there were tons of peer pressure and choices you have to make to fit in. But today’s age that’s all to an extreme and you also have to be careful and there is more of a pressure to fit in and follow the social crowd simply bc what seemed normal for us during our preteen days isn’t seen as normal for preteens now
@@soraya131 I enjoyed justice/claire's from 6-10. I personally stared wearing more athletic wear and like hoodies. I still wear like justice shorts and I'll get earrings from their.
In high school one of my "friends" grabbed my iPod out of my hand and ripped my earbuds from my ears just because she wanted so badly to know what I was listening to and I said no because I knew she was going to clown me for it. So what I liked Disney Channel Music? Why do you care?
@@matthewbates9629 Parents probably do it because they want to check if their kid is listening to explicit content. It's more understandable if that's the case.
In middle school, my family was struggling and my mom bought me black tennis shoes from Dollar General and my clothes from Walmart. I got bullied bad for that, but it was the only pair of shoes that I had that year so I simply endured the bullying. Also, other black kids bullied me bad because I never got a perm and that they would make fun of me for being "nappy headed" and they thought it was weird for a black girl to not listen to hip hop and rap....I enjoy pop music, and foreign music like jpop and kpop. They also made fun of the fact that I liked cartoons, anime and mangas, but that didn't stop me from enjoying them. Now, I'm 24 streaming anime, old cartoons, and videogames with my boyfriend. He's happy with my natural hair (no perms) and my goofy nerdy self because he's nerdy too. We go to arcades quite often now. I'm very happy with my life now.
Same lol, im black (and a kid) and if I dont fit into either the stereotype of the baddie or the gamer girl I feel weird and uncomftorble lol. Ever since online school ive just been able to wear what clothes I want, but im scared for when I go back into school lol (I also love anime and Jpop)
I'm going to start my first year at middle school this August and a lot of people in my grade dress older. Honestly it's so annoying like why can't we go through phases and still watch cartoons how we did in second grade. A lot of girls also have tiktok which is annoying because they think there all that, and I've seen some of their tiktoks and there hella cringy. I'm over here watching anime, reading, making cringy drawings, and playing roblox. I still do look up to older people because of their accomplishments, while younger girls or my age are looking up to Charli Damelio for dancing on tiktok for 15 seconds are whatever. I was really born in the wrong generation. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.
How the hell is 11 too old to watch Shake It Up when a. That's literally Disney Channel's demographic and b. Even the two leads were older than that. I need society to make that make sense
Well when we were in 2nd grade someone made fun of my guy friend for liking teen Titans because it was for “little kids”, as if we weren’t little kids ourselves. Plus some of the themes in Teen Titans were dark as hell, to the point where I would get scared watching it.
I think I was 12 when it came out. I watched other shows, but not that one because I thought "CeCe" (I think that's her name, she was the one Bella Thorne played) was annoying. I was still watching Wizards of Waverly Place and Good Luck Charlie at that time though.
Whats really sad is now disney channel had to lower their demographic because the teens don’t watch it anymore! They don’t really make shows set in high school anymore because high schoolers don’t watch it :(
My brother and his wife don't let their kids watch anything out of the 3 year rule. 3 years older or younger. It is CRAZY how when I was 11, people were reading twilight, I believe she's 17? I never understood how inappropriate that was until I looked back on it when my sister in law talked about it.
I don’t go to Justice because every time I go, I’m followed by the employees there. There have been times when they’ve touched my hair and just made me feel uncomfortable. They also don’t have clothing in my size :(
I was in a Hot Topic once and overheard this dad tell his 8 year old son he was "too old" for a Five Nights at Freddy's plushie and I froze in shock and horror. (I knew he was specifically 8 because he literally said something like "c'mon man, you're 8 now.")
but its a horror game- When i tried wearing a Fnaf shirt to school when i was younger my mom said "But its a horror game it would scare the children" We had uniforms but only some days they would let us wear normal clothes
I mean, I understand like people saying "omg these middle schoolers look so grown these days with this makeup and clothing" but I feel like everyone's forgetting that when they themselves were that awkward stage, their parents and grandparents thought the same of them. Trends and fashions change each year, I understand sometimes these young girls can go a lil far, but I don't think everyone should be tearing them down over it. There was a time mascara and lipgloss was way too much makeup in someone's perspective. Of course there's limits to everything but I think everyone's forgetting that these comments judging a preteen/teen for the style choices today can make them even more self-conscious about their appearance. Encourage their self expression through clothing, don't make them feel bad about it, but just make sure the clothing is still a bit modest. This is my take on this situation and I hope I didn't offend anyone
Also people need to be careful when they talk about how; Teens look much older now. I know it's not done on purpose but I don't want people to indirectly give more power to the pedos with there; Your so mature for your age or I didn't know she was underage cause she looks so much older. :/
@Una bolsa de pepsi y una lata de lays let’s be real. Who shops at Claire’s since now many kids want to act like grown women/ men. So the alts fashion and pusheen collectors are the ones who keep these places alive
This kinda hits home for me. While Justice was popular when I was a tween, I started to feel insecure at that age about wearing kids' clothes because most of my classmates wore older teen/adult clothes. Also, have you noticed how they're trying to incorporate adult styles into children's clothes? Like why does a 4-year-old need a shirt that says "influencer"?
bro what Ngl I'm kinda scared of wearing a dress when I go back to school becuz of "trends" I'm afraid someone will say crap. kids should be kids and wear whatever they want. they wanna dress alt? whatever, you wanna dress more childlike? ok do it. kids my age are still in middle school and they're getting bfs and gfs like it's nothing, and gosh it's proving to be terrible to their mental health. I hate it. Edit: Glad people agree
When I was in high school, I read a manga called Gals that was basically about a subculture in Japan that were basically '90s mallrats that wore flashy (some would say cheap or childish) clothes. I remember thinking they were weird in high school, but reading it now, I sorta envy them. They were confident girls who lived their best lives and didn't let anyone critique their style or tell them they were too old to still be in their Claire's phase. I aspire to be as comfortable in my own skin as these silly fictional teenagers.

I feel like it’s most likely due to the “im not like other girls” thing that’s been going on for a while which basically focuses on embracing girls being more tomboyish and more masculine. Though that also sadly puts down the girls that like acting feminine and are very feminine (them being the “other girls”). Thus leading for people to not want to go to stores (like Claire’s and justice) marketing towards people who like feminine clothing due to them being “not like other girls” Though it’s very possible that it’s not because of that and due to a complex that has been in our society for quite a while now. It’s basically this complex that due to living in a sexist society that prioritizes males over females, it creates this complex that if you do anything typically masculine, you upper yourself to the status of a man (which is pretty high in our society’s mindset) - regardless of gender. However, if you do something typically feminine, you lower yourself to the status of a woman (which is low in our society’s mindset) - again regardless of gender. Thus leading to most girls wanting to act more “masculine”, how “I’m not like other girls” came about, and even girls wanting to seek male validation. Like even though I typically like tomboyish things now, I have a feeling that the reason for my “tomboyish” fashion sense is slightly influenced by the “I’m not like other girls” thing that has been going because I even second guess myself when I want to wear usually feminine clothing (tho that may just be me and the fact that my family members would make catcalling remarks when I do but ehhhh that’s another story). So ya thanks for listening to my Ted talk *bows*
Bro your family WHAT I get it tho. My family keep making remarks about my looks. Even if it’s positive, I still feel weird about it, and that’s why I was driven away from feminine clothing for so long. Only now I’ve been wearing more skirts and dresses and stuff.
@@andromedasignage yeah even tho they always encourage me to wear feminine clothes, they always make a huge deal out of it by making sexual remarks like “Ooh you have a nice ass”, “Wow you’ll be getting all the boys attention”, “Oh wow so sexyyyy”, and a bunch of other shit which is prolly why I mostly wear hoodies and sweats even tho some days I wanna wear those cute feminine tops I got at the mall :’((

I'm generally into "boyish things" and every time I do something remotely feminine my mother loves to point it out, like one time I put on some eyeshadow because I bought a nice pallet, its like high tide from Colorpop? and she proceeded to basically hold me hostage for an hour and tell me how I should have used a different shade to blend it too and shit. Oh and she complains that I got my aunts genetics when it came to having hips and an ass. and she only buys me size 6 jeans because otherwise it wouldn't "fit my thighs" but its too big for my waist by far ;-; and she's really proud of me for taking up sewing because I've given up and I'm making my own shorts so the waist fits.
Its so weird how kids can decide what's childish and what's not. Like honey they were already being childish when they told me I was too old and embarrassing to watch Shaun the Sheep. Bestie we were 6. 1st graders were bullying and teasing me for being mixed. And then in 4th grade I would get bullied by my "friends" for watching MLP. Jokes on them I still watch cartoons
Man I can so relate! When I was a kid I had a friend named Allison whom told me that once I turned ten I had to give up on cartoons and give up on loving Pokemon because once I got older and I was still so hugely attached to them I was going to be made fun of and never fit in for as long as I'll live. I wanted to love Pokemon forever yet I didn't want to be made fun of and it made me really scared to be ten. I was seven when she told me this. I wanted so badly to for once impress her though we did have wonderful moments together but still. When I was ten I actually coincidentally did move on from Pokemon yet my obsession began with Sonic the Hedgehog. At first Sonic made me feel like he was the one whom would impress Allison and it all worked out because my love for Sonic began naturally yet she still wasn't impressed. To make matters worse I had another best friend, Amber, whom I loved more so than Allison and always followed cartoons like I do wind up telling me that Sonic was kiddish everything fell apart. It was actually at the ages of ten and eleven especially that I began to see that people my age including Amber were getting much more into reality shows, MTV, or adult swim and Amber even at one point mentioned to me one time when I was watching SpongeBob Squarepants on my TV in my room when I was eleven that she hadn't watched cartoons in a long time and she didn't say it in a way to hurt my feelings yet it really made me feel like she was growing up and I wasn't. Yet it was also hypocritical of her because she happened to call herself SpongeBob Squarepants' wife. Lol In fact when I was eleven I had a guy named Walter and when I was sixteen the same exact thing happened actually tell me that Sonic was kiddish and I had to give him up and love SpongeBob Squarepants instead because he was much cooler. I couldn't believe it for even back then I knew that it was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. I had given up my kiddish insecurities over Sonic by the time I was sixteen yet still. I always loved SpongeBob Squarepants yet he the cartoon character whom acts childish all of the time is much more mature compared to Sonic whom is a hero and saves the day all of the time and risks his life for absolutely anything? That's just beyond stupid! Lol But yeah as you can see I can so relate! Lol
dude, mlp is definitely for kids. And before anyone shames you that it's "just a kids' show", when I was in the mlp fandom as an elementary kid, most of the fans were fully grown men lmaoooo
BRO I WAS OBSESSED WITH MLP IN 4TH GRADE 😭 I’d come home at 3:30 to watch MLP until it ended at 5:00. I’d watch it on the weekends. Watch all the movies. Watch the creepy pastas and gore of MLP on UA-cam. I’d draw them. I never had any toys but I’d dress up in the same colors as the ponies. I was also in love with FnaF so they had a MLP version of it. I’d listen to those songs and prance like a little horse to the music. I see it as awkward and nostalgic but that’s when life reached its peak. It was so good 😭
It kinda was a blessing being in a school with uniforms because nobody could judge each other based on their clothes. However that didn’t stop me from being that girl when I regularly purchased webkins when everyone had moved on to console gaming.
Folks will find a way. Depending on the uniforms folks would bully based off of the brand of polo shirt, the brand of your slacks, the brand of shoes and accessories. If you qualified for the free lunch program. Kids can be ruthless.
Bullying still happened, especially if it’s a private paid for school with uniforms. The kids who couldn’t afford new shoes every month or the latest backpack got ranked on so hard and for what 😭
I remember being little and being in awe of my cousin's webkins collection. I thought she was super cool and I wanted some so bad, though my sister and I only ever ended up getting one since webkins was kinda before our time.
No because let's talk about it. I miss it when children wore glitters, bright colors and sequins and just the awkward era we went through when we grew up in middle school. sorry for my bad english. The fact that I saw a 14 year old with eyelash extensions/lashes on tiktok didn't sit right with me, like HUH?? when i was in like 1-4 grade justice was THE SHOP. Like, everyone wanted to go to justice, and justice pajamas were like, the height of luxury. Hell, i remember begging my parents to take me to justice. it wasnt until all the “cool girls” started dressing like the big kids and shopping at tilly’s and american eagle that everyone kinda just.. stopped? I dont critisize these girls or anything because they can do what they want, and i really dont like to shame people for their clothing. i dont really think it’s the girls’ fault for wanting to look older, i think it’s the cultures fault and the heavy sexualization of women and feeling like in order for girls to be valued they need to look grown up and “hot”. edit: also, nice video :) i really enjoy watching you!
Agreed. I also feel like it just hasn't really grown with my personal style. I went on shine the other day for some outfit ideas and I went into the kids sections and there were like bikini type crop tops.
Same. I was too small to fit until I was 8 and it was very hard to find clothing. But I transferred to hot topic as the justice at the mall near me house closed and hot topic was right next store. It made me feel nostalgic as lots of bands I listened to when I was a toddler had shirts there and I’m generally just a nerd and like sci-fi and horror.
Yeah, same. I’m going to middle school soon and In 1-4th grade Anyone who had sequins shirts or anything for, justice we’re “cool” And of course, I tried to be cool and ask my mom to get me those type of clothes (but she said no, because she wanted me to look cute, so I always would wear clothes from old navy, Abercrombie, etc) It made me sad but I realize where she was coming from, those sequins clothes are really uncomfortable and scratchy,
I fell the same way! I haven’t started middle school yet and that is how everyone acts. My friends like 16+ anime. And then there’s me. Watched the Owl house, Collects dolls, and does online cat roleplays. It’s just so weird..
Fr, Shiens clothes for kids are not really appropriate ngl, I personally like more baggy crop tops that are the lift up your arms type that you usual see dancers wearing.
Yea. I kinda stopped shopping there as I don’t like crop tops and I’m not a big fan of pink. But I once was in the kid’s section of a store and it had a sports bra and leggings in a size 6. Like a matching set for sports or something. FOR CHILDREN.
Heavy on the being made fun of for watching kids channels while I’m still a kids. I was 10 watching CN, Nick and boomerang while my peers were watch teen wolf and I’d be out of the loop
I wasn’t allowed to watch most Cartoon Network shows until I was 10 and had to wait a whole year to be allowed to watch adventure time. The other kids were watching the walking dead.
I was never made fun of watching kid channels at that age but I do remember hearing kids talk about Empire (which is a very ADULT show) and I would be like “Why are you watching that and it’s for adults??”
@@theelevatedone3944 OMG I remember that cuz the same thing happened to me I wasn't jealous of kids who used to watch that show not realizing it wasn't for kids
I remember a girl told me that Strawberry Shortcake was "for babies" when I told her that it was my favorite show IN KINDERGARTEN. We were literally in the target demographic. I remember one time in second grade, I was so insecure that I sort of did the same thing with my friend who liked Littlest Pet Shop in elementary school (which is obviously normal since that show was made for kids of that age too), because I was angry with her on that day. Looking back, I sort of feel terrible that I projected my insecurities on my friend like that for something that was made specifically of kids of that age anyway (plus I secretly liked it too).
In 6th grade literally EVERYONE hated me and talked trash about me for wearing justice, pigtails and not swearing... It was a horrible experience for me and left me with social anxiety and no friends
I miss the middle school days of going to Justice on the weekends hearing selena gomez and the scene blasting through the speakers. buying neon crackled nail polish and cute little outfits
My problem in junior high and high school was that I was the "gifted" girl and that kinda brought the pressure of having to dress "smart" and age out of "cute" clothes. (I'm also blonde, and this whole Elle Woods idea of subverting people's expectations by being smart and also being a Barbie blonde was just not a thing when I was growing up). To this day, I wish I could get away with wearing certain things at 26 like Sweet Lolita accessories, and if it weren't for the recent Y2K trend, I probably would have had to give up wearing my beloved Lisa Frank unicorn tank top now that I'm older (now I think I can probably wear it until I'm 30, lol).
I was the gifted kid too and honestly- there were no expectations of how I dressed. I think people were more surprised that I wasn’t some “weird kid” and dressed like everyone else due to the pressure. Also because I wasn’t good at math people tried to say I wasn’t actually smart lmfao
Girl you literally 26, not 50. And even if you were 50, you can still wear sweet Lolita accessories and Y2K or whatever you want. Just be yourself and screw anyone who has crap to say about it. They’re not worth the time of day.
I was one of the "gifted" kids too. My mom always told me that even when I was little, I used big words and read constantly. And could read at an adult level by fifth grade. But because of the stupid ass blonde stereotype, I was either "too pretty" to be smart, or "too smart" to be pretty. And then there were kids calling me stupid FOR being blonde
I never bought stuff from Justice and Claire's. I remember being a kid getting excited about going to the Disney store back when it was in my mall. Oh, the memories... 😍
It’s sad because kids feel so much pressure to fit the beauty standard so early on in their life. It’s not something a kid or young teenager should concern themselves with. At 14 I was still playing with dolls. Peers, media, older siblings, etc. don’t give them the time to just be kids anymore, you either grow up or you get made fun of or socially isolated, and it’s heartbreaking.
Yeah, I’m 14 and I’m honestly kinda embarrassed that I still like monster high, roblox, and lots of children cartoons. It feels weird because everyone at my high school looks so mature and there’s me, someone who isn’t really fashionable. I know that I shouldn’t be embarrassed of my “child-like” interests, but I kinda am. It’s just weird how social media is nowadays and how it affects people my age and younger. I envy my friend who didn’t grew up with social media since she doesn’t have to worry about that.
It doesn’t really help considering most students make fun of others for liking the stuff I do, so I just never really show my interests in public and kinda lean in with them.
I remember very vividly when I was in elementary school I was always made fun of for watching MLP. It sucked so much since i genuinely loved that show, but then they would tease me to the point where I was pretty much forced to say "I used to, not anymore ew." Thank god I switched that school and came to an all girl's school where everyone's actually relatable and nice about interests
good for u! i still like mlp and used to watch it aloot. i rewatched some episodes the other day and my sister was like "u still watch that??" i just shrugged it off. older sibling be whack
I'm 18 and I still have a white Justice cardigan that I wear sometimes lol. You would probably never know it was from there unless you looked at the tag.
This theory rang true even pre-major social media in 2006 - as early as the 3rd grade, the "cool girls" at my school mostly had older teenage sisters, so these 8-9 year old CHILDREN would dress like their sisters in super tight, low cut Abercrombie and Hollister clothing and $250 UGGs, so as early as 3rd grade, I was bullied for dressing my age and not like a high schooler. It's sad to see how Instagram and other social media have made this phenomenon blow up to new heights.
I have an older sister but the thing was we didn’t grow up together in same household she lives Mexico she got the limited-too stuff my mom would send I had some stuff too but I got mostly justice clothes growing up but I really didn’t have anyone to look up to TV and UA-cam were the my exposure to things I be watching both reality tv and Disney channel it is what it is you know
OMG YES!!! you're close to my age as well and I was in 6th grade in 2006 and I was the only girl with a Disney princess bookbag. I chose it, everyone else had bland stuff... No one made fun of me for it though and I was the only one that noticed it... Edit: I meant "6th grade" lol
I remember being bullied in 4th grade for wearing Twinkle Toes by these group of girls who saw me as an easy target. They told me I wasn’t going to get a boyfriend wearing something so “girly” and “ugly.” Me being the stupid 10 year old I was I believed them and stopped asking for them. I also remember I got bullied for my hello Kitty sweater I used to always wear. Nowadays Hello Kitty is massive and it’s all the rage for people in my age group because of nostalgia. Also the same for monster high. Used to get teased for liking it, now those same people are doing those tiktok MH makeup trends. Life is weird like that.
The girls at my elementary school used to play Bad girls club on the playground and would clown and outcast girls who didn’t 🙁 this was 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade for me I was still watching Disney and didn’t know what they were doing
Interesting to know about this because Justice never caught my attention. In my middle school years I would actually shop at Hot Topic or any other store that didn't look too childish to me. It's sad that teens now these days want to grow up fast without knowing the huge responsibilities it comes with
The sad thing is that some might say that hot topic is "too childish" too. Half of the stuff there are Cartoon Network, My Little Pony, and Pokemon merch (at least it was when I was in middle school). Of course, the other half had your typical rock band merch and goth/punk/emo attire.
@@mynameisreallycool1 ohh during my middle school years I mostly saw gothic stuff in there like rock bands & all black. I never bought those but only some small accessories like fake hair dyes. They didn’t add all pop culture stuff into the story til like 2 or 3 more years. Now it’s more like what ever is trending which I’m fine with & I be shopping in there more on whatever captures my attention
My guess is that teens wouldn't hate it if Adults didn't make fun of it and ruin it for us. I feel like I only see people make fun of these stores on social media(I remember once Danielle cohn did)or maybe in grade school i definitely would've been made fun of for justice lol. Maybe its just the people im around but I feel like the kids I know and I like stores like Claire's and justice.
As a 21 year old adult, I unfortunately agree. Plus, the kids who do make fun of other kids for wearing those clothes are only doing it in the first place because of the older people and the way they influence those kids. A lot of adults will say, "I wish teens were still goofy and didn't care what other people think. Kids are boring and try way too hard to act grown up nowadays." But then are often the same people who shame kids and teens for acting "cringy" "loud" "childish" or "dumb" just for acting their own age. There's this constant pressure to be and an "old soul" or act more "mature" than you actually are by liking movies, shows, music, and clothes that are typically targeted towards adults. I definitely felt this pressure from both kids and adults when I was a child, and I'm sure it's much worse now. Of course, kids should grow and mature naturally, but it should be gradual, and becoming more mature has more to do with you becoming more responsible, compassionate, and so on rather than shopping at Abercrombie or watching Riverdale at twelve. As for liking "childish" things, everyone should be allowed to enjoy them, especially children.
When I was about 6 I went to my local mall’s justice and started looking around for monogram stuff with the letter O on it. I couldn’t find anything so I asked a lady if they had monogram stuff with the letter O and she literally scoffed at me and was like “we only have the popular letters” like why would you say that to a kid? I hated justice forever after that
ive been "alternative" of some sort since 5th grade". "alternative" tweens used to just wear band t shrits, skinny jeans, beanies, a tattoo choker, pusheen shirts, maybe smuged eyeliner, converse or vans etc. now the edgier tween crowd is wearing corsets, net shirts, platform boots, heavy makeup, and mini skirts. i blame tiktok, the 11 year olds that like twenty one pilots are now drifting towards older teens for fashion inspo.
thisssss i’ve been into alt for almost two years now and when i started that’s what i wore and it was fine but like,,, now even though i’m not particularly into this new style i still feel kinda pressured to wear that cause all the cOoL aLt KidS wear that :’(
Yes oh my god. I’ve been “alternative”…specifically emo..since 2016! Back then it was band shirts, skinny jeans with fishnets underneath, dark makeup, beanies, rubber bracelets, stretchy chokers, and badly died pixie cuts. I’ve literally been PUSHED OUT of my own subculture because my outfits were too “cringey” and “not alt enough” for the modern scene. There are 10 year olds wearing harnesses, garters, mini skirts, demonias, crop tops, and borderline “intimate” gear…It’s honestly so saddening to see. If they don’t wear that then they “aren’t alt” and they feel forced into wearing more exposing stuff to get more likes on social media. I’m not saying “demonias” weren’t in the scene before, but people wouldn’t really wear them until highschool.
I frickin hate the new alt clothing style. My cousin said scenekids were coming back and I was like oh yay! But then the ones that came weren't the same. It's all platform boots, dark clothing, and weird makeup. Like these aren't the same scenekids there's supposed to be bright colors, the makeup they wear now is like stitches on their mouths originally it was just thick eyeliner, and I most definitely don't remember the platform boots.
i remember how like a year ago i noticed kids trying to dress more like adults or teenagers, its even worse because they were in like 4th grade. ITS OK TO BE A KID! literally don't feel like it's bad to still like toys or to still buy from kid clothes stores when you are 9!
I was like 10 in like 2014 and I remember buying justice non stop because of the cute clothes they had .. hell I’m 17 and if they still had justice I would still go buy some stuff
when i started first grade, all the lil rich yt girls shopped at justice which is how i found out abt it. i BEGGED my mom to let me start shopping there bc i wanted to fit in and bc i really liked their clothes. so, up until the later months of 5th grade, i was obsessed with justice clothes. that’s probably what my whole closet consisted of. around the last few months of 5th grade, my style icons were instagram and musical.ly girls. they looked more grown. me being the impressionable 10 year old girl i was, i started to try and act and dress like them. by 6th grade, i had switched from justice and old navy to forever 21 and h&m. by 11 years old, i was going to school in crop tops and short shorts. then by 13, no one was able to tell i was a child. i used to go everywhere with my face beat and in fashion nova outfits bc, i wanted to fit in. ppl weren’t able to tell how old i was, then also being tall and pretty developed for my age, older boys would try to get with me and stuff. so, it’s too late for me but, younger girls don’t be like me.
There are literally girls in my middle school They hang out with like highschoolers and like start vaping and smoking, drinking ect, in like 7th grade. you can't even tell theyre in middle school they dress and act like theyre 20. And they bully me for wearing "childish" clothes...? 💀
Why is it that I’m kinda like a younger version of you but I only liked justice in 2nd and 1st grade and also got into those types of clothes at 10- AM I A WORSE VERSION OF YOU?!
yo back when I was at the age of 10-12 I would give anything to buy Justice clothes! I only got it on special occasions like Christmas (bc it was hella expensive) but now you see 12 and 13 yo looking like straight up adult models like-
Same!! I hate that kids don't have an actual time to like, mature and glow up or whatever. It's like they immediately have to be beautiful to keep up with social standards...
So many middle school aged girls dress like grown women. My mom would have never let me leave the house dressed like that in middle school. I couldn't even ware a crop top until I was 19. Kids try to grow up to fast.
i don’t really understand the big deal about tight fitting clothing or showing midsection. we aren’t grown but why should we have to change our style to fit that? showing cleavage isn’t always a thing that happens on purpose either. some people develop earlier and they are often attacked for that. they’re called “fast” or a hoe. i don’t want to grow up or be an adult yet (i turn 15 next week). i just like wearing crop tops, and i don’t see the problem with that.
I’m in the same boat you are, I’m 18 and throughout my early teen years would DESPISE the restrictions my mom put on my internet use and what I was allowed to wear but looking back I’m grateful that she did. I never dressed “out of style” per say but wasn’t allowed to wear anything cropped or super short ESPECIALLY not when leaving the house to be with friends. Crazy how I hated it so much then but I’m really thankful for it now
@@aivryzamora825 i think it’s important to have restrictions on internet use, but not clothing within reason. i was stared at by an old man while wearing skinny jeans and a long sleeve shirt. it doesn’t freaking matter what you wear, creeps are gonna creep.
Kids are being pressured into wearing 'adultish' clothing because they are inundated with late-teens/young adults being popular in their primary and most influential spaces (TikTok, IG, Snapchat etc.) At the end of the day, all kids are seeing is the teenage/adult beauty standard and want to replicate it. If there were more younger aged child stars in the limelight, I guarantee more 'kids would start dressing like kids.' Also, something somewhat related that I wanted to say, once people get in their heads that other's opinions literally don't matter at all they'll become so much happier. I have a friend who is turning 18 in a few months and feels bad for still wanting to collect stuffed animals, wear baby pink, wear frilly skirts and such... it's sad, but I always tell her that it does NOT matter what others think or assume... just do what you want to do because it's YOUR life!
I also thing kids are impacted just by school and classmates in general. Like, in my school, similar to any other school, you will get bullied, and picked on, and hated on by everyone else if you don't wear a certain style, or don't wear specific clothing, or just in general don't act your age. Its sort of come to a point where, even in my elementary school, in third-fourth grade kids acted like they were at least two years older than they were, because they knew if they didn't they would get picked on. In my middle school, when I came in and when I saw newer sixth graders come in there was all this pressure to just grow up. In the later years of elementary school your surrounded by people younger than you, and you feel like you have to act and dress so much older than them, and in middle school your surrounded by people who are so much older than you, making you dress and act and think differently, and I'm guessing its the same for high-school. I feel like social media started this trend, but just school, and just the people your surrounded with influence it onto you.
I have seen too many comments talking about social medias and that is why children grow faster, but I have not seen any until yours where it is admitted that not only we do not wear this because it is cringe but because of what people will say, and yes in your school that type of silent bulling where the glances and giggles are the protagonists behind your back your anxiety to dress as they want is going to be much worse than any influencer. Another thing is that I have read many comments saying that "this generation needs to live its youth or childhood" but they only say it and do not give any idea of how to start, it seems that they do not realize that children who grow faster minds that grow faster So not everything is as easy as grabbing a rope and starting to jump and boom, childhood recovered and also don't you think that children will feel pressured by those comments too? that they are told so many times and that they are frustrated for not wearing certain clothes that they are supposed to wear because of their age and have certain behavior that they must have because of their age, don't you think that will also frustrate them? So if any adult or young person wants to say that they have to enjoy their childhood, at least say some tip on how to start, please
Literally everything that's considered "girly" made me feel weak and stupid. And it's freaking because everyone always constantly shames anything young girls like.
While I never really payed much attention to fashion growing up as a preteen and such. I did sometimes wonder when it came to boy's clothing, why couldn't the colors be a bit brighter. Even in commercials girls had more fashion, while fashion for boys wasn't a big demographic.
My fashion sense went from sneakers, red jacket and a tee shirt under? Now, it evolved to converse, a flannel with a tee shirt, or a red Henley shirt (three buttoned, crew neck? You prolly saw one but didn't know what it was called.) And yeah. I have duplicates of the same shirt! Because it's my favourite!
In middle school I had some galaxy jeans from there that I wore until they fell apart at the seams 😭 when I got too tall for them I just made them into capris, idk why I was so attached to them
I’m eleven, and I’m tired of all these girls my age acting like they are 18 years old. I’m afraid to express myself and experiment with different styles of clothing, always having to fit an “aesthetic .” I still love my little pony, littlest pet shop, animal print, and dressing how I feel. But I have to hide who I am at school, hiding my true colors from peers. I’m just afraid of missing my youth years as they pass by swiftly.
i almost feel like kids/pre-teens/and teenagers are the ones that are deciding what’s “trendy” or “cute.” this video was spot on, i don’t see anyone shopping at Justice anymore other than 1st-2nd graders. however, i do see loads of teenagers and kids at clairs, but that’s understandable considering they only sell cheap earrings, necklaces, crappy phone cases, and it’s where the majority of children go to get their ears pierced. personally, i’ve only ever gone to justice a handful of times with my mom, either to buy my sister or I a pair or shorts to wear around the house, or to buy a gift for a cousin/niece. but it is true, a pair of leggings and a shirt is like, what, $100 dollars? and regarding cartoons, i am seeing a lot more teens watching newer children’s cartoons, like miraculous ladybug, steven universe, owl house (i don’t know if it’s called that, but it’s about witches and stuff) it’s baffling when i go to the beach and see what i think is a fully grown woman wearing the shortest shorts and crop tops, only to find out their what, 14? again, nothing wrong with wearing this type of clothing, good for you! but it’s like wow, i honestly think they’re adults.
Had to jump on here cause I worked at justice up until they closed 😭😂that store use to be my shit. But towards the end (before they got sold) they started to sell more older teen/adultish clothing. They had tube tops, crop tops, bralettes etc. it wasn’t too bad, but it was definitely a little grown
I LOVE Justice! I have a billion hoodies, leggings, and cute accessories from there. The only reason that I stopped shopping there is because I’m pretty sure that the one near me is closed! ✨
I also used to shop at Limited Too (which later rebranded to Justice) as a kid! It was definitely expensive, but it was exactly the type of clothes popular and appropriate with the age range. Thank you for discussing this! There is a weird pressure to grow up fast and to start dressing more like adults in junior high. I remember when i went to 7th grade (that was when middle school started in my school district), I told myself that I couldn't watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, so I started watching certain ABC family shows that were considered a little more "adult" and "risque". I also starting watching reality shows on MTV and VH1. In hindsight, as a 25 year old now, I definitely didn't relate those shows at the time and I wish I hadn't been in a hurry to grow up and become a teenager. But when you go to middle school, there's definitely this weird expectation to suddenly let go of all childish things extremely fast. Talking to some friends, many of them continued to watch Disney and Nickelodeon shows even into high school and I wish that I had just slowed down a bit and let myself mature at a normal rate
I admit I have stayed extremely loyal to Sonic the Hedgehog, Disney Channel, cartoon shows, cartoon movies, Disney, and Nickelodeon for many years but during my preteen years and early teen years I felt so much pressure to not constantly be all about them all of the time. I knew that it was okay to love them especially Sonic the Hedgehog since I always have been his number one fan since I was ten yet I was terrified that I was supposed to love them less compared to things like MTV, VH1, reality shows, teen shows like Gilmore Girls, as well as teen movies, and to be all girlie girl and boy crazy. To make matters worse I was typing stories of Sonic that were over a thousand pages so I felt even more so entirely out of place as much as I loved those stories and also loved staying true and loyal to them. I had friends whom loved Disney Channel but I had two friends whom wanted absolutely nothing to do with rated G movies or Disney films and I admit I had friends whom loved G movies and Disney films but I still feared that my love for them was just not right. High School Musical came out during that time and for a while I felt like I fit in with the High School Musical crowd but even the love for that movie lasted for like only a month when I was in sixth grade and then everybody was like, "Man, why did we ever love High School Musical? That is so stupid!" It always felt like people would move on from one thing to the next and I was always left behind with that stuff making me feel worthless. I've come a long way since those days let's just say. :)
I only had one shirt from justice and it was uncomfy as hell. Not only that it didn’t really fit well anyway cause I was always a bigger than average kid.
It is so crazy how girly stuff is seen as "immature" or people are shamed for it. Let them be kids! My goodness! I see nine year olds looking 15 recently. So many things are wrong with the lack of girls being able to be girls...
@@shia5394 I'm not meaning girls can't wear more masculine clothing. I'm talking about how it's sad to see the amount of people (since apparently we're going that route), are skipping more feminine colors, sparkles, glitter, unicorns, fluffy things -etc. and going straight to what is considered "more mature" clothing. My comment had nothing to do with "being a girl" and completely with the lack of "girly things I see young girls wearing" - so I hope I cleared that up a bit. The reason I said girls was because I haven't seen many young boys sporting "girly" things. In my opinion, "girly things" are meant for everyone (I mean fluff and sparkles are amazing, regardless), so again - I wasn't trying to mean "girls should wear girly things". Hope that cleared up the miscommunication.
My Bestfriend LOVES justice, but when we got to 5th grade she stopped wearing it to school, and when I asked her why she said "Because people will bully me for wearing pink" I never really understood why until she cared what they thought I got older, and its because people are straight-up disrespectful especially adults or older teenagers if you look "childish" even tho you're a child. Kids aren't aloud to be kids anymore and that's upsetting :/
The first and last time i shopped at justice was when i was getting training bras cause they were cheap there. When we went into the store and i tried the bras on this woman sat right outside the curtains to the changing "rooms" and kept asking me if i needed anything. I know she was trying to be polite but isnt it a little bit creepy to ask that while a girl is trying on clothes?
I mostly shop in Hot Topic with my aunt, Justice wasn't my thing (this was back when I just started high school in the early 2010s). I don't understand why girls would immediately grow up to stop watching shows (and even no longer want to play with cute toys) they love, and start acting like "adults" because of the what they see on social media. At least I didn't have to follow their trends during my high school years.
I'm going into 11th grade, and the last time I remember it being "okay" to wear justice was in 6th grade. 7th grade was about the time you had to start dressing more maturely.
I remembered back in middle school, everyone tried to not dress their age with eyelash extensions and long acrylic nails. Even the boys started sagging their pants trying to look older. Luckily no one bullied me for not participating in that :/
Sadly I was in middle school when Justice started quickly becoming “uncool” and I was still wearing it and was picked on about it like everybody was wearing Pink and Fashion Nova and the next year after that I changed my style 🥺😭😭
I personally just grew out of Justice clothes. Looking at old pictures of me and my old clothes that I still have, I still think they made me look cute, but my style just evolved. I go for a more laid back and simplistic look these days, but sometimes I'll still wear something wAcKy 🤪 (at least when it's compared to the rest of my wardrobe lol)
Lmao I LOVED justice and claire's when I was in elementary school and 7th grade! I used to mismatched clothes ( a pokemon shirt with pokemons everywhere and candy corn printed leggings with cheetah print flip flops and neon pink and blue socks lol ) but I luckily found my own style and a good one. I still dress in colorful clothing but properly tho.
When I was young I didn't like Justice mostly because I was (and still am) a chubby person and they never had anything in my size so my parents took me to like kohl's and JC Penny and even though I was still into Nick , CN, and Disney I was also watching (and about to show my age) like Laguna Beach the Hills and my super sweet 16 plus anime. Even before Instagram back with MySpace and Facebook you still have alot of younger kids following popular older people back then it just wasn't as mainstream like it is now. Maybe it's me and where I'm from it's not uncommon to see girls wearing crop tops and shorts because it's gets hot as hell from where I'm at but whenever I travel I always thought it was weird seeing middle school girls wear that in a place where it isn't hot. Also we need to get rid of the notion of pushing adulthood is great to children because it's not it's really not. I'm so glad I never really bought into that when I was a kid I'm almost 30 with a full time job and I still love wearing bright color graphic tees and watching cartoons while still enjoying my reality TV trash. Trust me adulthood as society makes you think it is a myth just enjoy what you like.
i remember when i was in elementary/middle school, i used to want to wear justice clothes so bad. unfortunately my parents never let me express myself through fashion so i missed out on that part of my childhood. my parents were control freaks when it came to what i wore and i just never got to go through the glitter and sequins phases like every other girl. strict parents vibes 🥴
Almost forgot--I was the first girl to have a birthday party at my old Justice! We did rock star makeovers, and I think I still have my hot pink headset!
As someone who is in high school, I have watched my generation grow up what seemed to be too quickly. By the time I was 11, I had been pressured into letting go of my childhood. Ive watched literal elementary schoolers act, dress, and look like high schoolers. Its sad to watch these kids grow up and not live normally. I still wear justice (their leggings are bomb), but I think its mainly influenced by social media and peer pressure from other girls. In middle school I hung on to justice and other brands, but eventually I started to stop. Even justice has changed their image, having clothes that look older, but it hasnt really worked out. I wouldn’t mind if everyone wore glitter, animal print, and colors again. Ever since girls stopped wearing justice, theres been a lack of colors at school, and everyone just looks sad. I think it was wrong for these girls to give up their childhoods so quickly. Maybe in the future, things might change, but for now it seems looking older is better.
i was also a justice girl, i wore their clothes from mid elementary school to mid middle school. once i got to middle school my friends had pointed out to me that the clothes i was buying were a little childish, and i agreed since i felt a little self conscious seeing other girls wear hollister and tillys. looking back on it, they peer pressured myself into buying from more mature stores a little. i like my style now a lot more, however, but i do still have a rlly cute skirt from justice that still fits me that i keep just in case. when you talked about people watching more mature shows and looking down on cartoons i remembered other girls my age watching riverdale while i watched sailor moon and precure (which are both very girly) but i never abandoned them for more mature shows since i didn’t like telling people i watched anime in the first place lmao. kids should be allowed to just be kids and enjoy kid things, especially girls.
Justice was my favorite store when I was little and I got into a huge claire's phase when I was 14, so this is really sad to see that these stores might shut down soon.
as someone who went through this much later than you, I'm sad to say my claire's phase was from like 9-11. though after that, I was never into really "mature" clothes. I'm pretty insecure and don't like showing skin so I stick to hoodies and jeans lmao, no makeup too (since I went to catholic school and all) :/
I’m 14 year old girl and I still sometimes wear justice. I’m a size small so I can fit into some of the clothing from justice but also some clothing from Hollister and Aeropostale. My mom couldn’t afford Justice clothing when I was little cause she didn’t have I job so I only wore thrift store clothes . A few of the girls in my class still wear Justice but mostly the leggings and sometimes the shirts ( more of the ones that look like Hollister shirts though ) . A lot of girls have the backpacks, pencil cases, notebooks though .
I loved my Justice cloths! Especially my fluffy skirts and sparkly shirts! However then puberty hit and gave me a D cup and "birthing hips" so I couldn't fit in my favorite outfits anymore. However, I found other dresses and outfits that I adore that really show off my hour glass figure. 😁
Totally feel that. I was already D+ in 6th grade so I guess it looked weird wearing really childish clothing but looking more mature. Some of those were my favorites to this day!
To the topic of like shows, I’m 12 and I’m told that I’m too old to be watching summer camp island, adventure time, Steven universe, etc. they’re genuinely good shows I don’t get what’s wrong with them.
I wore justice until like 6th grade even though I got made fun of a lot for liking “girly shows” like my little pony bla bla bla or wearing anything with pink, but I’d still wear their clothing if I’m being honest but honestly that’s just my style lol
All of my shirts I wear came from Hot Topic. Every time we go to the mall on a weekend, Hot Topic is the first store we go to. I wear a band shirt with plaid jeans because of that store 😂
"I was clowned for still watching Spongebob when I was 11" Girl, I'm in High School (16 yo) and I still watch it because I still like it. *Never* let people influence in what you have to watch, just keep being you :D
@@sta._rina I guess your older nowadays once kids know how to tell brands apart they tease or bully for having light up sketchers or at least where I live
I remember bringing a Care Bear with me to third grade. One of my classmates thought I was bringing it for a day care after school when it was for show and tell.
The bullying in middle school for not having certain brands… like I’m sorry I’m poor lol
sis, the worst part about it IS THAT WE WORE UNIFORMS.

Right I had to recently step back and realize I was really out here watching grown adults me ale fun of kids dancing on tiktok like…? Shit’s wild
@@spicycherrymilk9058 Yeah. And these adults out here only wanting to watch kids shows just to make memes out of it. It’s like adults always just try to hyper sexualize regular child behavior, or make their shows into memes. It makes my blood boil.
Right !! And then people wonder why many pre-teens/teens “skip” the “awkward teenage phase”!
@@tilmook what's wrong with making it into memes
There are a lot of girls who picked that one out for themselves!" like SHUT UP let kids wear what they want to wear
honestly sounds like my mom lmao
So they just insulted a kid clothing choices because they think it was ugly?!

Honestly props to you for telling her off.

WHY ARE THEY SO MATURE 😭😭😭??" And to those people who say that: It's your fault Jessica.
lmao I’m 14 and a trans demiboy. But like I still wear stuff from claire’s 💀✋

I think justice has a much younger customer base now. My daughter likes justice starting around 1st or 2nd grade.
I shopped there when I was 8-10. Then I got into darker and baggy clothes. But kids started shopping there in 2nd grade. I was just to small to fit in their clothes.
Same my baby girl loves justice and she’s starting 2nd grade
Good for you, keep loving what you love!
I love that you have a Steven Universe profile picture and you love adventure time like can we be friends
Same here I was made fun of for liking the dc and marvel movies but now those same ppl watch them. I was 14 and it was looked down upon of you watched Spongebob still like HUH
I'm 22 and I still watch cartoons lol
You’re never too old for cartoons. I’m 23 and still watch cartoons with my dad and he’s almost 52. ☺️
Cringe culture has played a massive part in the grown-upification of young girls (to more of a degree w girls of color and Black girls) but also... p3dophile culture has played a massive part imo. Like 14 year olds now look wayyy more grown than 14 year olds when I was 14 (2017...).
I completely agree
This is definitely pedo culture.
the grown-up thing- i agree. also like we look so much more grown up now without doing anything tbh too- like my mom looked at a picture of my sister when she was 13, and then looking at me, it was clear i look at least 3 years older. neither of us wear makeup and i was wearing an oversized tee. its so weird.
Facts.
As someone in that age range, it’s definitely a huge influence. That and also influencers pushing their styles onto younger audiences who don’t know what they’re doing.
I enjoyed unicorn wear with pink to blue ombre glitter clothing. Now it’s plain hoodies with a white tanktop that says something aesthetic on it.
I wish I could save this comment, amazing
exactlyyy and its not cute at all
Yes it’s not even girls clothes, it’s like mini clothes for women

OMG KJASHDS ITS BEEN SO LONG I STILL HAVE THEIR FOX BACKPACK THINGY
i was forced to wear them in elementary and it was in the 2010's

Yeah 😔
I LOVED disney channel shows around the ages of 4-10. I still do (the classic ones obv)
Whats really sad is now disney channel had to lower their demographic because the teens don’t watch it anymore! They don’t really make shows set in high school anymore because high schoolers don’t watch it :(

what but like fnaf isnt supposed to be for younger kids tho cause i got into fnaf when i was like 7 and still am a fan til this day
I find it funny how he thought his 8 year old son was too young for a horror game about murdered children possessing animatronics
Encourage their self expression through clothing, don't make them feel bad about it, but just make sure the clothing is still a bit modest.

the people that always laugh at emos, people wearing pastels etc. are always the people with blandest styles that are painfully basic, because they are afraid of being laughed at for having their style. kinda sad lmao, wear what you want to and let others wear what they want bestie!
What is aesthetic clothing?
I feel like it’s most likely due to the “im not like other girls” thing that’s been going on for a while which basically focuses on embracing girls being more tomboyish and more masculine. Though that also sadly puts down the girls that like acting feminine and are very feminine (them being the “other girls”). Thus leading for people to not want to go to stores (like Claire’s and justice) marketing towards people who like feminine clothing due to them being “not like other girls”
Though it’s very possible that it’s not because of that and due to a complex that has been in our society for quite a while now.
Bro your family WHAT
I get it tho.

Oh and she complains that I got my aunts genetics when it came to having hips and an ass. and she only buys me size 6 jeans because otherwise it wouldn't "fit my thighs" but its too big for my waist by far ;-;
and she's really proud of me for taking up sewing because I've given up and I'm making my own shorts so the waist fits.
Lol
In fact when I was eleven I had a guy named Walter and when I was sixteen the same exact thing happened actually tell me that Sonic was kiddish and I had to give him up and love SpongeBob Squarepants instead because he was much cooler. Lol
But yeah as you can see I can so relate! Lol
I literally discovered Shaun the SHeep at 16 and my whole family was able to find it funny and as a legal adult with insomnia that stuff helped me nap

However that didn’t stop me from being that girl when I regularly purchased webkins when everyone had moved on to console gaming.
nah, i wore uniforms, bullying over clothing still happened.
Uniforms are the worst

The fact that I saw a 14 year old with eyelash extensions/lashes on tiktok didn't sit right with me, like HUH?? 😕🤦♀️
I feel like alot of kids are forced to grow up too fast. everyones minds are so young, they should be allowed to wholeheartedly enjoy kids things. plus, Id watch Spongebob over some reality show anyday, and I love colors and patterns when it comes to fashion. children need to stop punishing each other for being children. youre only a child for so long.
when i was in like 1-4 grade justice was THE SHOP.
This is almost the exact same thing that happened to me-
Yeah, same. I’m going to middle school soon and In 1-4th grade Anyone who had sequins shirts or anything for, justice we’re “cool”
And of course, I tried to be cool and ask my mom to get me those type of clothes (but she said no, because she wanted me to look cute, so I always would wear clothes from old navy, Abercrombie, etc)
It made me sad but I realize where she was coming from, those sequins clothes are really uncomfortable and scratchy,
I fell the same way! I haven’t started middle school yet and that is how everyone acts. My friends like 16+ anime. And then there’s me. Watched the Owl house, Collects dolls, and does online cat roleplays. It’s just so weird..

I remember I had to change everything about myself to stop getting bullied. I still got bullied after that, just for different reasons.

I relate to this a lot. Im also blonde and I never backed down from colors and fun styles, but ive definitely had criticism for it.

At 9 I asked for some dolls and liked talking about the cartoons and anime I liked but my mom and aunt told me I was acting “childish and immature”.
@Void
Wtf?! 9 is a child.
I remember very vividly when I was in elementary school I was always made fun of for watching MLP. It sucked so much since i genuinely loved that show, but then they would tease me to the point where I was pretty much forced to say "I used to, not anymore ew."

I'm 18 and I still have a white Justice cardigan that I wear sometimes lol. You would probably never know it was from there unless you looked at the tag.
Yeah indeed girl and when was her senior year though In 2020?
This theory rang true even pre-major social media in 2006 - as early as the 3rd grade, the "cool girls" at my school mostly had older teenage sisters, so these 8-9 year old CHILDREN would dress like their sisters in super tight, low cut Abercrombie and Hollister clothing and $250 UGGs, so as early as 3rd grade, I was bullied for dressing my age and not like a high schooler. It's sad to see how Instagram and other social media have made this phenomenon blow up to new heights.
Right?!?
I have an older sister but the thing was we didn’t grow up together in same household she lives Mexico she got the limited-too stuff my mom would send I had some stuff too but I got mostly justice clothes growing up but I really didn’t have anyone to look up to TV and UA-cam were the my exposure to things I be watching both reality tv and Disney channel it is what it is you know

Edit: I meant "6th grade" lol
Damn. I have 4 older sisters (one lives with me) and I still dress my age lol
i didn't know kids weren't wearing justice anymore :( that was my shit
I've seen many people at my school say they were "too old for children's channels", who now complain about how children are leaving childhood faster.
The girls at my elementary school used to play Bad girls club on the playground and would clown and outcast girls who didn’t 🙁 this was 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade for me I was still watching Disney and didn’t know what they were doing

The sad thing is that some might say that hot topic is "too childish" too. Half of the stuff there are Cartoon Network, My Little Pony, and Pokemon merch (at least it was when I was in middle school). Of course, the other half had your typical rock band merch and goth/punk/emo attire.

As for liking "childish" things, everyone should be allowed to enjoy them, especially children.

i don’t really understand the big deal about tight fitting clothing or showing midsection. we aren’t grown but why should we have to change our style to fit that? showing cleavage isn’t always a thing that happens on purpose either. some people develop earlier and they are often attacked for that. they’re called “fast” or a hoe. i don’t want to grow up or be an adult yet (i turn 15 next week). i just like wearing crop tops, and i don’t see the problem with that.

If there were more younger aged child stars in the limelight, I guarantee more 'kids would start dressing like kids.'
Also, something somewhat related that I wanted to say, once people get in their heads that other's opinions literally don't matter at all they'll become so much happier.
I personally feel like this has always been a thing I feel like social media is given too much credit although it does play a part.
Literally everything that's considered "girly" made me feel weak and stupid. And it's freaking because everyone always constantly shames anything young girls like.

and regarding cartoons, i am seeing a lot more teens watching newer children’s cartoons, like miraculous ladybug, steven universe, owl house (i don’t know if it’s called that, but it’s about witches and stuff)
it’s baffling when i go to the beach and see what i think is a fully grown woman wearing the shortest shorts and crop tops, only to find out their what, 14? again, nothing wrong with wearing this type of clothing, good for you! but it’s like wow, i honestly think they’re adults.

Same! Limited Too was the thing!
Limited Too was SO expensive!!
I use to shop at Claire’s a lot when I was a teenager. I also loved Rainbow and Forever 21. My younger cousin would shop at Justice.
Rainbow is mad fire! Love that store!
I know she was trying to be polite but isnt it a little bit creepy to ask that while a girl is trying on clothes?
it's not creepy. she was doing her job.....and since you were young she probably thought you needed something. stop
No… it’s normal.
It’s normal
uhh...she wasn't peeking or anything, its normal
It's normal.
Peer pressure.
Seriously girl why did most girls stop wearing Justice 💔
I remember begging my parents for Justice. Luckily, I had a couple of outfits from justice. I thought I was that girl when I wore those clothes.
Trust me adulthood as society makes you think it is a myth just enjoy what you like.
i remember when i was in elementary/middle school, i used to want to wear justice clothes so bad. unfortunately my parents never let me express myself through fashion so i missed out on that part of my childhood. my parents were control freaks when it came to what i wore and i just never got to go through the glitter and sequins phases like every other girl. strict parents vibes 🥴
oooof. i hope ur in a better situation now where ur free to be urself my friend
This is probably why schools have uniforms...
actually i think it is, in 4th grade my teacher said we had uniforms so that kids wouldn’t make fun of other kids outfits
@@cosmicowmix7154 the reason is so you can get easily identified to what school you belong to
@@cosmicowmix7154 also wearing the same clothes keeps it basic since schools consider fashion/vanity a distraction from studies
That's a lie because uniforms are more distracting to me because they're so uncomfortable
I guess they didn't receive proper "Justice" afterwards.
I remember my mall back home didn’t have a Justice, but it did have Limited Too which was along the same lines
Almost forgot--I was the first girl to have a birthday party at my old Justice! We did rock star makeovers, and I think I still have my hot pink headset!
I had a friend who did her birthday party at my Justice too. I think I got one of those bracelets that you had to hit your wrist (to put it on).
BYEE I DID ONE OF THE MODEL FASHION SHOWS-
As someone who is in high school, I have watched my generation grow up what seemed to be too quickly.
I was a thrift store child and whence I hit 7th, I went hard core into Hot Topic and became the cringe people like to say Justice was
Justice was my favorite store when I was little and I got into a huge claire's phase when I was 14, so this is really sad to see that these stores might shut down soon.
as someone who went through this much later than you, I'm sad to say my claire's phase was from like 9-11. though after that, I was never into really "mature" clothes.
Nothing is wrong keep liking what you like as long as you’re not harming anyone
You're literally a child and even if you were an adult there's still nothing wrong with watching those shows
Also thank you for speaking out on the sexualization of teenagers, please do more content on this!!
"I was clowned for still watching Spongebob when I was 11"
Girl, I'm in High School (16 yo) and I still watch it because I still like it.
*Never* let people influence in what you have to watch, just keep being you :D
I was made fun of for being childish cause I wore twinkle toes hightops in THIRD grade 😭
STOP THATS SO STUPID i remember kids still wearing their light up sketcher shoes, i def had sparkly pink shoes at one point knowing me
@@sta._rina I guess your older nowadays once kids know how to tell brands apart they tease or bully for having light up sketchers or at least where I live
@@citlaliargueta3306 i think when people get to middle school thats where it becomes "uncool" but thats just what im thinking here in the us
I remember bringing a Care Bear with me to third grade. One of my classmates thought I was bringing it for a day care after school when it was for show and tell.
