The solo that starts at 3:31 gives me chills every time. This song was great as an instrumental, but IMO I like it with Spencer's voice so much better.
This might have been where prog/tech death metal/djent peaked. Like honestly the sickest parts of all the influences are on full display here, but nothing sounds jacked from other artists... a fucking masterpiece.
I feel the same way, man.. The part at 12:42 and how they included it in Ragnarok actually made me shed a tear.. Thumbs up for Periphery, they are masters at their work, and I feel honoured to have met with them in Oslo and have gotten the experience of talking to them and getting a bit of a closer look at their amazing personalities!
Listened to this track so many times and it's still so hard to believe that such a masterpiece exists. The amount of swings it has and different bars, is insane.
Been listening to prog metal for over two decades now and can hear a bit of DT, Rush, Meshuggah, etc in each stanza. Love the arpeggios, hate some of Spencer's 'whiny emo' moments. That all being said, like a great flick this is fifteen minutes that goes by *very* quickly. Truly an EPIC song that's become one of my favorites.
JabrohamsProductions Yup, sure is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periphery_(album) Some of Chris Barretto's harmonies were left in the debut after rerecording with Spencer on lead vox...
JabrohamsProductions It's Spencer. The production quality isn't as good compared to the second album, but it's still pretty easy to tell that it's his voice. "As a result, Sabol's and Barretto's lyrics and vocal melodies and harmonies are still featured on the record." So some harmonies and melodies are still in here, but overall Spencer definitely (re)recorded all the main vocals on this album.
Fun story about this song and in particular, Jeff Loomis's guest solo on it: Loomis has been my favorite guitarist for a pretty long time now. When I listened to this album for the first time and it got to this song, that solo started playing and it captivated me immediately. The longer it went on the more I was thinking, "holy shit this solo is insane." By the time it was finished I was floored, thinking that it was one of the greatest solos I've ever heard. After the song ends and the album is done I open up the CD booklet and read the liner notes and what do I see but, "Guest solo on "Racecar": Jeff Loomis" I felt so validated. My favorite guitarist passed a totally blind listening test with flying colors and to this day it's one of my favorite guitar solos ever.
Spencer complainers, just shut up and don't listen to these versions, open up another tab, and listen to the full album instrumental, they got a studio edit of that aswell. Have fun
Really? I feel like is a pretty intense song to throw to a brand new listener, lol. Usually, I'll recommend something like Scarlet or Make Total Destroy, cause they feel a bit more accessible. Not saying that Racecar is a bad song by any means, in fact, this is up there among my favorites. It's just that a new listener might not appreciate the intricacies without first having understood Periphery's base sound.

Accidentally discovered this song playing random songs on guitar hero! Best accident of my life xD
Wait this song’s on GH????
@@nmularoni1 it’s on clone hero! It’s like a fan made guitar hero but it’s much better because you can play like 10,000 songs. And this is one of them
Ah Clone Hero. Heard of that. I only have my guitar hero gear for the original wii 😂😂
The solo that starts at 3:31 gives me chills every time. This song was great as an instrumental, but IMO I like it with Spencer's voice so much better.
Still the best Bulb/Periphery song. Brilliant.
This might have been where prog/tech death metal/djent peaked. Like honestly the sickest parts of all the influences are on full display here, but nothing sounds jacked from other artists... a fucking masterpiece.
Even the emo ass vocals work so well, normally they make me cringe. But this is MCR level emo that's so musical it's not just wanking off.
This song is like a reflection of life
ups...downs...ups...downs....hope....
0:47 - 1:07 ah jeez, this section man ❤️❤️❤️
I usually don't have an appreciation for vocals, but I love Spence's voice so much.
Easily the best song by Periphery.
9:54 - 10:48 is probably the most beautiful solo ever written.
the greatest periphery song. simply brilliant.
13:08 gives a very strange feeling of freedom.
I see light.
Listened to this track so many times and it's still so hard to believe that such a masterpiece exists. The amount of swings it has and different bars, is insane.
My favourite song of theirs. By far.
This is by far my favorite song in the first album.
It's a shame how underrated it is
12:42
Twelve goddamn forty two
Amazing.
Yup, shit has made me cry before, just seems so sad and nostalgic.
its one of the best parts of this song
yes. 100%.
My appreciation for this song knows no bounds
Been listening to prog metal for over two decades now and can hear a bit of DT, Rush, Meshuggah, etc in each stanza. Love the arpeggios, hate some of Spencer's 'whiny emo' moments. That all being said, like a great flick this is fifteen minutes that goes by *very* quickly. Truly an EPIC song that's become one of my favorites.
Well said.
This isn't spencer...
JabrohamsProductions Yup, sure is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periphery_(album) Some of Chris Barretto's harmonies were left in the debut after rerecording with Spencer on lead vox...
It was Casey Sabol. Not Spence.
JabrohamsProductions
It's Spencer.
Whoever hates this song is stupid.
This. Is. A. Masterpiece.
4:36 Elliot Coleman
Fun story about this song and in particular, Jeff Loomis's guest solo on it: Loomis has been my favorite guitarist for a pretty long time now. When I listened to this album for the first time and it got to this song, that solo started playing and it captivated me immediately. The longer it went on the more I was thinking, "holy shit this solo is insane." By the time it was finished I was floored, thinking that it was one of the greatest solos I've ever heard. After the song ends and the album is done I open up the CD booklet and read the liner notes and what do I see but, "Guest solo on "Racecar": Jeff Loomis"
I felt so validated. My favorite guitarist passed a totally blind listening test with flying colors and to this day it's one of my favorite guitar solos ever.
Loving the Spencer/Elliot vocal harmonies toward the end
Toward the middle *
Ahhh this song, memories.. It's been so long and all of a sudden I feel happy and content.
Spencer complainers, just shut up and don't listen to these versions, open up another tab, and listen to the full album instrumental, they got a studio edit of that aswell. Have fun
Austin Hynes You sir, are ridiculous.
Inthinkable, Spencer is a really darn good vocalist. He’s improved significantly since this record, which was not bad at all.
I've listened to the song forwards and backwards and it sounds the same both ways through, periphery is genius!
11:27 - 12:45 Pretty awesome riffs going on
xCynder my fav of all time
This section is what made me love Racecar so much
I pity billions who didn't get to hear this masterpiece.
This wasn't just a song this is an entire experience
This album raised the technical level of music I love so high that it stopped me playing guitar after 10+ years.
4:37 idk why but it sounds perfect, ooh who am i kidding everything sounds perfect
When i recommend Periphery to people or friends.... I give this song, cause this is what Periphery is all about!
I've never been able to explain how this track makes me feel
Easily my favorite song. Ever.
This song is like the face of Periphery. When I suggest this band to a friend, first thing I always say is listen to Racecar..
Cant speak for everyone but once I heard flatline and marigold I was instantly hooked
This should be the last song you show someone if you’re trying to get then into periphery and they’re not used to this music 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Possibly the greatest song of this era.
I've def. Listened to this song for 72 hours !
So 5 times? Lol
the long, epic song is a lost art nowadays.
this is this decade's "suppers ready"
seriously blown away by this piece
9:10- 10:50
i come back to this song every here and there just to reinspire myself. still one of my favorite musical pieces of any genre and of any time
'These are broken words'
Periphery's lyrics summed up in a sentence.
Ive always loved how this song just shreds away into eternity at the end.... So perfect considering the lyrical content
