DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth. Now Popular does not mean official even though two of the formats I will be covering were official formats being Japan Nintendo Cup and VGC, but it is an indicator of what a good portion of competitive players thought was “optimal” at the time. Also sometimes the Pokemon Battle Historia doesn't provide enough information to talk about certain Pokemon so I add Smogon analysis to make sense of it. This is pretty rare though.
To the people asking why I don't cover Smogon Singles for Gens 1 and 2: It wouldn't really be a history video if I covered those because online Smogon gen 1 meta to my knowledge wasn't actually played until late 2000s. I wanted to cover tournaments/competitive battling that was actually played during the early years of Pokemon (late 90s).
To the people asking why I cover Smogon at all for singles: To my knowledge, Smogon was the most popular format for Gens 3-5 and held a number of tournaments throughout the years. As for Gen 6, I am not covering Battle Spot Singles because there is more information and explanations about sets being used relative to their own meta on Smogon. In other words, there are few written analyses about Battle Spot Pokemon besides the Top tiers and I would like to avoid theorycrafting because it may have a hint of bias (though I theorycraft if I REALLY couldn't find information on a certain Pokemon). The keyword here is explanations. Though I did find statistics of most Pokemon used and most moves used, there wasn't really any explanations on why. Also the few Pokemon I did find analysis of for Top Tier Battle Spot Singles had very similar move sets to the Smogon OU sets anyway.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent and I will not fault you for using evasion or whatever, I just like examining popular tournament formats.

@@AverageHandle_ Specially considering it's considered good on OU (B/B+), just somewhat niche because of working poorly against physical attackers and not being a good tank like G-Slowking, but it's still the best specially defensive futureport user available and some teams need that "specially" over "physically".

Idea for mega slow King, an ability called “mind over matter” where it sets trick room the same way drizzle & drought sets weather.
That soundd pretty frustrating since you'd need to be packing another room setter just to stop with it. Trick room messes with teams way more than weather does.
Slowking now got a Galarian form, and its signature ability removes stat changes from allies when he switches in. Could lend itself to some good support usage, especially switching in after Intimidate in doubles or U-Turning/Volt Switching in after an ally used moves like Superpower to remove the downside.

The first time I was introduced to Slowking was in the Diamond and pearl anime, where it ko'd a koffing with its psychic, by only pointing.

In nowadays Metagame (Gen 8 OU, february 2021) there's now 4 slowmons: Slowbro, Slowking, Slowbro-Galar and Slowking-Galar. In OU we have both Slowbro and Slowking-Galar as meta defining, as well as regular Slowking as a solid mon as well and Slowbro-Galar... isn't worth the usage in OU.
G-Slowking was first slept on due to the lack of teleport, dropping to UU and then RU becoming the best mon down there, but once pheromosa started its rain of pain, G-Slowking's Assault Vest set was one of the only things that can counter the Quiver dance set. The utility of that set wasn't just check pheromosa, but rather almost every mon on the special side of the spectrum with a good mix of defensive utility and Offensive pressense, specially against Clefable, Zapdos, Tapu Koko, Tapu Fini and opposing Slowbro, as well as putting a lot of pressure on its checks with a sludge bomb with nasty poison rate or a powerful Future sight to help your partner.
Since it only needed Sludge bomb, Future Sight and a fire move to be effective, people started to experiment with the 4th moveslot, from Scald to get some burns on steel types, to Ice beam to KO Garchomp and Landorus-T, to Psyshock to threat Blissey and Toxapex, to Earthquake to really mess with heatran and opposing G-Slowking despite its poltry attack. Just like in GSC, both Slowbro and G-Slowking are commonly used together for some of the most annoying defensive cores in balance teams due to the lack of answers for both at the same time and the sheer utility of future sight, specially once spectrier got ban.
Regular Slowking, while not as popular as the Galar counterpart or its cousin Slowbro, is still useful due to the combination of future sight and teleport, while its better special bulk is crucial against Heatran, Volcarona, Latios and Nidoking. Due to being relatively niche Slowking is in UU, where it was one of the few Latias checks before her ban. While it can struggle against the staples of Zeraora, Scizor and Krookodile, it is still a reliable check to powerful threats like Keldeo, Kommo-O, Nidoqueen and Nihilego.
All the Slows are in OU now except for G-Bro.

Honestly being good in OU is more important than being OU considering there's a lot of bad pokemon trapped in a tier they don't work, while slowking is good in OU and great in UU, not considered the best just because the other top 3 counter it.

Slowking’s Galarian form is a formidable tank in the current OU meta thanks to a unique defensive typing and slightly higher Special Attack than its Johtonian counterpart. It also keeps Regenerator.

I guess he'll just cover the forms that were the most relevant in competitive, in Rotom's situation the Wash form is going to be the most covered.

As far as I know, deoxys N and deoxys D both see almost no use, so it's really just every lead set used by deoxys S and every all out attacker and revenge killer set for deoxys A
@@classarank7youtubeherokeyb63 Deoxys N was like a niche lead at best in older generations. With a unique EV spread, it could take specific hits that Deoxys A couldn't hope to take and it could hit harder than Deoxys S. You'd use it for what those 2 forms fell short at doing. Deoxys D is a bit limited for a wall though because of typing, lack of power and HP undermining its defensive abilities.

Slowking is somewhat overlooked considering in normal playthroughs, people have to go through the trouble of trading it with a King's Rock to evolve. Nice to see that it is still as useful if not more useful than Slowbro.
If you can trade though, Slowking is easier than Slowbro. 38 is a pretty high level.

Slowbro and Slowking are both great pokemon it just depends on the meta at the time when its mostly physical Slowbro is a better choice but Slowking Rules when special threats are dominating.

I often run my Slowking with Power Gem and Signal Beam for coverage, always took players by surprise and with Psychic and Slack Off, it covered the bases nicely.
So happy slowking did pretty good in competitive. It's my favorite and I don't get to see many videos about it

Imagine Mega Slowking with an ability that instantly applied Trick Room the moment it comes in, kind of like how Drizzle works.

Slowbro can learn Flamethrower too. The one thing that is unique to King is Nasty Plot. Slowbro does fine with Calm Mind though.

Heya False Swipe! I like your "how good were they actually" videos. In that same vein I wanna share a thought: could you do videos about how good certain TMs and HMs were too? (I realize that's an immensely broad topic... so maybe people could vote on some obscure ones and then you rate them? :D )
It's time for me to do what I always do when FSG uploads a video: make a Mega Evolution out of the discussed Pokémon.
I have some kind of idea that is based on what mega slowbro got
The shelder on slowkimgs head has been fed so much, that it grew parasitic, engulfed his whole head.
The parasite started releasing chemicals to make its target in a constant unconcious state, unable to realise whats happening around him
The heavy metal shell is sturdy enough, it defending his mind from harm, while knocking down from recoil any foe who dare tackle it

water/psychic -> water/metal
ability: own tempo/oblivion/regenerator -> unaware
hp - 95
atk- 75 -> 120 (+45)
def- 80 -> 80 (0)
spatk- 100 -> 85 (-15)
spdef - 110 -> 180 (+70)
speed- 30 (0)
new moves:metal burst, irln head, razor shell, clamp
the idea is simple, slowbro got a defense and spatk bonus, and immunity to crits
sloking get a spdef and atk bonus, and immunity to boosts
the shell basically defend his mind from special moves
I also wanted to make him steel/water (basically my premise was that the shell is taken over so his own amazing mind isnt working anymore, so no psychic, instead the shell is as strong as metal), because i really wanted a metal/water pokemon. look at empoleon, he has great resistances
metal burst would basically be the replacement to future sight, abusing his low speed to make sure he attacks last, so he can switch into a boosted sweeper, take a hit and retaliate
he lacks physical water and steel moves (which I made him a physical attacker for metal burst), so I added razor shell and clamp which fit thematically, and iren head which is him slamming his shell down

Slowking is one of my all time favorite Pokémon. I relate to Slowking in so many ways, him and Incineroar.
Before playing Pokemon Gold, I used to think Slowking is the evolution of Slowbro because in the early magazins he was advertised as such. Common misconceptions back then aside from Lugia being a Water Type
I think it's funny how different Slowking is than Slowbro when the only real difference is def vs spdef.

i still find it very strange how slowking can be female....then again every 1/4 gothitelle's are male which makes 0 sense

@@kyoyamurasaki9169 Even more so in Japanese, where Kingdra and Slowking were... 'Kingdra' and 'Yadoking' - in contrast to Mr. Mime which was 'Barrierd' in Japanese hence the Mr. was a relic of Gen 1 not having genders outside the Nidos.
I'd say that King was a general Royal term - but the previously mentioned Nidos, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen have the same English and Japanese names, so there IS a distinction of Gender...

I would think the fastest way to improve Slowking would be a pivot move like parting shot. Lets you set up a sweeper, get regenerator and would be good on Trick Room builds.
