Another inspiration for Slowking could possibly be Mad Doctors, or even Sorcerers. Slowking's entries on the website line up with how Mad Docs and Sorcerers are usually presented as morally grey to slightly evil (if they aren't the villains and presented as pure evil), but have a very deep understanding of their fields, like how (I mistakenly put Dr. initially) Victor Frankenstein was able to stitch together body parts to create his monster. And since the only difference between poison and medicine is time and dosage, if Slowking learns any form of healing/restoration moves it would truly embody that teaching, and the characteristics of mad doctors and sorcerers
Fun fact, Victor Frankenstein was never a doctor. He created his monster while he was still attending college and upon seeing the eyes of his creation dropped out and vowed to never dabble in science again.

Well that unamed pokemon also happens to be called Spiral Shellder, check bulbapedia.
But at the core it’s still tarban
Especially with the smoked slowpoketail as an item/curry ingredient, meaning Shellder can chew on a disembodied slowpoke tail without turning into a Slowbro, spicy or not.
That and Kangaskid.
It's possible the symbiotic relationship helped " evolve" shelder in a way it can absolutely only be on slowpoke, so technically it is an evolution, just not one we can ever have on its own

Actually, Morgan and Mordred aren’t connected at all in the original mythology. Overly Sarcastic Productions has an excellent video on exactly that.
This is true, but at this point it's less a matter of canon and more a matter of headcanon. Like how there's usually multiple versions of certain myths and everyone just picks the one they like most or heard first.

Yeah, in the older versions not, but to be precise, there is no one original tale its a hotch potch of a lot of different things no one knows how it was originaly. Myths tend to be liveing breathing things that evolve everytime someone tells them

Funny that you use the word "warlock", since warlocks in RPGs are known to have gained magical power by becoming bound to magical beings, some of which require tributes and sacrifices. The poisonous Shelder could very well be the patron of the Slowking, giving it powers and intelligence in return for nutrients

I can see Slowking being basic on the Mad King George the third.
George III died blind, deaf and mad on January 29, 1820. His illnesses may have been caused by porphyria, an inherited metabolic disorder, though a 2005 analysis of hair samples suggested arsenic poisoning (from medicines and cosmetics) as a possible cause. He is buried in St. George's Chapel.
👀 Note: Slowking is blind and deaf and Shellder became its eyes and ears. And he die from an illness that was caused by a medicine poisoning.
Plus George 4 became regent as a result. Probably a bit of a puppet ruler by virtue of having the power of a king but no real authority.

@@thomastakesatollforthedark2231 And THAT is why its amazing. Feats are fairly hard to get, only being able to take them at very specific levels, and you have to give up your stat boosts to take it. So just getting one for free, and at level 1 no less is HUGE
I actually love Galar-Slowking, but mostly because I adore Dark Mages and always make myself one when there are avatar-characters.

Does anyone else get reminded of how Pharaoh looked in Battle City? One of his character designs was to wear his blue jacket as a cape. ngl he looked kinda badass. But Galarian Slowking is far from badass....sorry not sorry.

@@EWOODJ it all comes down to design and execution. Pharaoh from YGO-tall dude with wild hair, intense eyes, deep voice, commanding presence, takes charge of any situation....badass. For Pokemon, Charizard is a dragon inspired fire breathing lizard that can fly. Pikachu is a a smol mouse but ANIME Pikachu has some MAJOR wins under his furry belt. Galarian Slowking has a dumb hat.

I don't think Slowking is meant to look badass, I think the frills are supposed to be more reminiscent of a cowl or a short cloak

My theory is that the Slowking is in complete control of the Shellder, that's why the Shellder has Slowpoke's teeth and sleepy eyes, because it's in trance, being used as a living helmet by Slowking...
but those eyes aren't sleepy looking at all ... they're quite intense and piercing ... also, Slowking's sprite appears to be tilting back and forth, as if it's having trouble keeping its balance. Like a zombie ...

The idea you travel through the roots of this big magic tree to reach different realms (or homes in some interpretations) is pretty big Yggsadril energy. Like the only thing we are missing is a magical rat pokemon that is the attendant of the tree who uses its branches.
Considering it's the Shellder that changes in evolution while the Slowbro doesn't, I've always just headcanoned that biting on the Slowbro is just the trigger for Shellder to evolve.
Pretty cursed existence, if you ask me. You evolve and lose all autonomy or even life while someone else benefits. The Shellder taking over the Galarian Slowking is just a role reversal of that.

I agree but I understand why they didn't ghost poison fits slowkings design but that would step on gengars line and psychic is slowkings whole deal, ghost psychic makes sense but getting rid of that poison would be hard to explain and psychic poison fits that slowking and slow bro always have the same type even though its disappointing.

Ghost maybe it's "3rd type" but both Psychic and Poison make more sense than Ghost
other people made good points, but but to add I can also definitely say that poison fits in the notion of parasitism being a form of illness.
The slowking isn't dead, but it's sick, with the parasitic shellder having taken control of its weakened state. Not to mention that they apparently both became this way because the shellder's brain got juiced up by the "spices" produced by slowking's body, and thus another tie to the poison type.
A little late to the party, I know, but ideally I think that slowking would have had an ability like Dhelmise's that powers up ghost type moves and it's signature move be changed to ghost type since it's so shockingly ghost type-like already.

What if a Shellder eat a slowpoke tail by it self? In Gen 2 Slowpoke tail's where a big part of the early game and if a Shellder needs to bite a slowpoke tail to evolve a slowpoke to slow bro what if they eat it buy it self it evolves into the pokemon that is on its tail.

This right here. Since the tail is conical in shape, it would make sense that the shellder ends up growing around it to create that spiral shape. I mean, the tail is a constant, regrowing source of food for the shellder, so why wouldn’t it grow?
You pointed out how trees were important for a lot of the myths.
Well to tie them into Slowpoke, to evolve one into a Galarian Slowbro, you had to use Galarica twigs found from trees, and make them into a cuff for Slowpoke to wear.
So do you think the twigs maybe used again for Galarian Slowking, but as like a crown it wears, before Shellder becomes it's new crown?

I think an interesting thing to note about Galarian Slowking is that half of its body is purple. The reason this is so interesting is because if we are to believe the Shelder upon its head is vampiric, it could be eating away at the Slowking's body. Usually when blood is unable to access certain points in the body, they become dark blue or purple from lack of blood flow. Meaning, Slowking might also be undead, much like the vampiric inspiration.
Alternative explanation, but the Shellder could evolve with the Slowpoke? Much in the same way Accelagor and Shellmet would, except that those two never seperate

Perhaps the skin underneath is very thin, which would allow the poison to flow easier, but it wouldn't put the Pokemon at risk since it has a tough shell over top

It’s kinda freaky that the chemicals inside the Slowpoke combined with a very hungry Shellder leads to a horrific Parasitic relationship where the Slowpoke is evolved but unable to control it’s own actions and the Shelder is the one in control has become extremely intelligent and uses Slowkings power for it’s own.

I am certain that someone must have mentioned already, but they do remember me of the mentats of dune that used the 'spice' to attain mental powers; the same as this slowking but in a different manner. I know that is very slim association, but looks like a little easter egg.

I think Galarian Slowking represents a leader that is blided by their leadership. Like, a king becomes cruel because he knows he has power or something like that. That's why that Shelder that suppossed to be the crown swallows Slowking's head.
I'm telling you: the next games have to discuss the consiquences of all the legendary pokemon being caught!

This was super interesting! I came up with a theory based around that and part of the old datamine and returning pokemon, so spoilers (kinda):
The tree's otherworldly origins and the fact that we know the Ultra Beasts have a role in one of the story's parts from the datamined title cards links up quite well! I'm going to guess the tree (and Calyrex) are what keep life in the Crown Tundra stable, but because the tree gives off a lot of dynamax energy to do that Ultra Beasts show up and start attacking and/or disturbing it similar to how they're drawn to Ultra energy. Then you have to defeat/catch them to stop the birds/regis/Calyrex losing control or something.

the only thing that bothered me about Shellder becoming spiral shell form, is that in that very same dub, Shellder still had the tiny, squeaky voice and not a grumbly voice to go with how it looks now.
