Hmm perhaps I should have explained baton pass teams better but I feel as if it could be its own video for another time. I provided some reading links on it though in the description for now. Thank you for watching though, please let me know if I overlooked other things.
Yes, I suggest making an Evolution of Baton Pass Teams from Gen 2 all the way to Gen 7 Ubers where it got banned from Smogon meta. It really shows the evolution of what used to be a niche idea that became more and more power over the years of the utility power creep. People should know how crazy Eeveepass is in Gen 7 Ubers, before it got slapped with the ban. It is downright terrifying to see a Global +2 Krokodile OHKO Defensive Xerneas.
@@MrNarwhaI same I wish we had vgc with RU and below so we can see other mons and more original set I don't see where the fun is by beating a full legendary team with a full legendary team?
Gamefreak: Dark void is too powerful on smeargle, we need to make it so that smeargle can't use signature moves. Also gamefreak: Let's nerf dark void's accuracy to nerf smeargle, even though smeargle can't use the move anymore
this reminds me, i went to a casual ORAS tournament at a midnight release for sumo, and this kid there had a team of six smeargles. i was actually pretty curious and cautious, considering that team could've been ungodly levels of annoying to deal with, but the kid was just running moves like dragon ascent and origin pulse and stuff. couldn't dish out a lick of damage. it was pretty funny to see, actually.
That's Smogon for you. "We have to ban ingrain and baton pass. It's affecting the metagame way too much." "It takes a hundred turns, though. And one haze undoes everything." "Doesn't matter. Banned!" "Ok. What about banning stealth rock?" "Well now you're just being silly."
As a baton pass user, there are lots of ways to get around Haze, Taunt, etc. 1. Haze and Heart Swap can be blocked with Taunt (Mr. Mime) 2. Phazing moves (and Red Card) are useless (Soundproof Mr. Mime or Ingrain) 3. Encore, Taunt, and Topsy-Turvy can be bounced back (Espeon) 4. Spectral Thief can be blocked by Smeargle 5. Transform is blocked by substitutes 6. Infiltrator doesn't matter when you're +6 in all stats :P How long does this take? About ~50 turns. Even if you get a Haze off, I can just try again. Not to say there aren't counters, but it's not that easy to stop
rabbits2345 But any number of pokemon can have haze and by the time I switch in, you don't have time to switch in a blocker. Also, magic bounce didn't exist in gen 3 so encore's viable. Also, even if I'm just doing chip damage, if you have to go all those turns time and time again, I'll win the attrition battle.
Really only a small handful of (viable) pokemon can learn Haze, and they're all really slow. Yeah, you can run Dodrio with Haze (lol) but it's usually not too hard to sniff out who has might Haze on a team. I can scout for switches by using Baton Pass. If you switch to a Hazer, I bring in my Taunt mon. If you don't switch, then I'll just keep boosting up. And Magic Bounce didn't exist, but Magic Coat did, which effectively does the same thing. In addition to all that, you can only surprise me with Haze once. After that, I know exactly what you're doing if you switch in your Hazer. And you didn't kill anyone, so I can just try again
Overrated? Ho-oh losing 50% on switch, and guaranteed damage on anything is amazing in 1 turn is amazing. There's a reason literally every team is running Stealth Rock.
I would have liked him touch more on the baton pass teams in generation 6 , which really was the resurgence of Smeargle to OU for a few months. I understand the video is about smeargle, not baton pass, but it really was fascinating seeing the competitive scene shit itself over and over trying to figure out how to properly nerf full baton pass teams with fairy types and scoilipede carrying the show.
Shuckle II: The Tumor. Now kindly please procreate away from this video. Wobb and Suckle can only dream being anywhere near Smeargles Outer God strength.
Imagine this, your in a doubles match and you have Wobbuffet. Your opponent decides to attack only the neighbouring ally next to Wobtumoret. You happen to fall on your first, then second and suddenly you lose already half of your team while that Tumor still standing and not inflicting anything of an offensive pressure except on your sanity. Hello Darkness My Old Friend rightfully starts to play....
vivilion has 89 speed and compound eyes sleep powder (90+% acc sleep) with tailwind and quiver dance options. its a great smeargle counter and replacement choice for support with good moves and decent stats.
Beak Blast is an amazing option on Smeargle. Set up entry hazards and when you're down on 1HP you can leave a physical attacker with a nasty burn before you go out. (Beak Blast also has priority on the warm up turn making it ideal for this)
The point isn't to do damage, it's to inflict status while bypassing Taunt. By that train of thought I reckon something could be done with Nuzzle, this weak Electric move that always paralyzes.
I saw this set somewhere as a Troll Set, but I think it still has merit today. Called Mine, Bill Cosby. Pkmn: Bill Cosby (Smeargle) Ability: Own Tempo Item: Focus Sash Moves: 1) Charm 2) Spore 3) Harden 4) Pound Think we can all understand this and its usefulness.

One of my favorite toys for Smeargle is Gravity. Since it drops Evasion by two stages for all combatants, you can get perfectly accurate moves at or above 60% base accuracy, with even the horrid 50% moves being ~87% accurate. So many options.
