So funny, you did almost the exact same thing I did. I got a 5'11 Firewire Baked Potato (also Helium construction), and absolutely fell in love with it. It's loose, lively, paddles great, and catches pretty much anything. After having the baked potato I went and bought a 5'6 Tomo Evo (Helium) which has about 33-34L. Haven't surfed it yet but I look forward to trying it out. I swear the helium tech adds 5L of volume to the board because it blew me away how well these boards paddle, it almost feels like I'm cheating. I think the written volume on the board is calculated from the boards dimensions but doesn't take into account the construction of the board, who knows. I surf at a spot that's pretty much considered a longboarding spot since the waves are mushy, so it's always hi
larious when I have priority paddling for a wave and someone in front of me doesn't think I'll catch it because I'm on a shortboard but end up catching it with no issue.

I bought the table on 5'11 this Friday. Can’t wait to take it to the sea!! I’m 38 years old also beginner, instead of a longboard I decided for the seaside!! I hope I can stand up!! I was 3 years trying to paddle against current and didn’t stand up with a Patterson 6’1 with 20 liters a real rocket, as if I were Italo Ferreira!! Good review I hope the board help me!! Had a couple of years out of water because of back problems and been riding mid lengths last 18 months. Want to go smaller.

I'm 40, started surfing again after 3 years off, added a ton of weight so I sold my 27 liter 5'10" Lost Stealth and my 32 liter 5'3" Baked Potato and got a 45 liter 5"6' Catch Surf Twin Fish soft top. So far I suck at takeoffs, but haven't had decent surf yet either.

@@surfininmy40s Thanks man! Yea, that seems like a cool board for sure, having owned 3 Firewires I must say I like that company. I also like Mayhem shapes, so thinking of Lib Tech Rad Ripper or RNF 96 once I get in better shape. Probably keeping the Catch Surf for small stuff or sell it later. I'm also teaching my 6 year old and he loves the Catch Surf 5'6", but I'v ordered him a Softech Lil Ripper 5'0" as I think he is soon ready for his own board.

I'm 51 this year and have the 5'3 seaside. I'm only 5'8 and 150lb though. I had a middle plug put in mine to try as a twin + trailer or thruster but it definitely feels happier as a quad. Although the 2+1 fanning twins went well in the wave pool. Fin wise, the Machado fins seemed a bit big for my weight so I run JW med in the front and carver small rears. But your right, its a comfortable board when you ain't the best paddler.

I’m thinking of getting the seaside, I’m 5’8 177 lbs. and moderately fit. I’m riding between a 7’6” long fish funboard and a 6’2” sweet potato that is 52 L. Recommendations on size?

@@JasonBedient I had both. Currently I have the 5’9 seaside and used to own the 5’9 mashup. If I was younger I think I would like the mashup more. I have a vlog on the mashup and caught amazing waves on it.. but ultimately the seaside just worked better for me in average surf.
I think if I could’ve had the 5’10 mashup with a little more float that could’ve worked better.
