- I didn’t enjoy the first version of the Machado Seaside quad fins; they were too stiff for my liking.
Other people, however, loved their Seaside fins and suggested I try the NEW version. Intrigued, I decided to give them another shot.
How does version 2 differ from the original? How do they stack up against traditional quad fin sets? And most importantly, are they truly worth the investment?

Thanks for the video breakdown! I'm 6'4, 92 kilos and ride my 5'7 Seaside with upright future quad rears and AM2 fronts. The board goes great in everything from knee high to overhead for me. I am curious to try different feels so currently trying larger upright twins for the front and same quad rears. It's hard to see you going wrong with the first fin set up I described and it will work in your other boards as well.
yeah you and I have had a similar experience. The bigger the waves the better standard quads go. The keel style fronts are best in smaller waves from my experience
@@blinksurf Tested upright twins with upright quad trailers and didn't like the feel. Felt stiff through turns and not really any added drive. Seems like the original future quad set up is the best set up.

I’m 6’4” 85kg riding a 5’9” seaside found the Rasta quad set go well and also Rasta keels for something different. Going to be trying my futures large quad set with blackstix see if that’s a bit drivier

Hi there, great videos! I’m 6’1 180 and ride a 5’9” Seaside and love the feel with the AMK. I too was able to exchange the original machado quads which I first tried on head high surf - you can see the issue. Later I bought just the rears on sale to experiment as you will see.
I’d like to know if the Kai Lenny R2 quad worked well with the seaside in larger surf like Chest to overhead as it was not specifically mentioned in the videos?? I’m curious to try it while here in Mexico with the Revo and the Seaside.
I also ride a 5’8” Revo and have had good experiences with a few fins but just dialed in after two years and trying different fin setups. My favorite is the H4 Large in front and believe it, the original seaside small quad rear in the back. From small to slightly overhead point break waves I have been having a blast so easy to turn, enough speed and hold, worth a try for those out there that may have one (haven’t tried this on the Seaside but I will next week when it gets a bit smaller.) The full H4 Quads also work well with Revo bit more speed and more hold as I used that predominantly in Nicaraguan last summer.

I think the Kai quads are worth having in the quiver for when you value control over drive. They are really good in all the boards I tried them in. The seaside is so wide they don't have a huge amount of drive compared to keels or standard quads.

If anyone wants to make a suggestion on buying fins or not, he should at least know how to perform according to the fins’ design. The Seaside/Machado quad is kinda performance fish design , so just show some footage of you doing some maneuver/speed generation on it.

AHhh yes, I actually bought a seaside with the 1st machado fins... then I sold the fins.... because i felt like i couldn't turn the board fast enough and when I surfed overhead, I getting way too much speed without being able to turn and get vertical, also have an oversized seaside..... which i eventually sold lol. I should have bought a smaller one... but this si GREAT review. want to try the New fins tbh
Aha! It sounds like you have experienced the same situation as me. Yea maybe try the new Machado keels they are were noticeably better for me.
I had the same problem on my seaside. Go to the Future quad Controllers. Now you can snap on a dime and maintain all the speed you want.

@@jamesk9087 This is the way. Controllers tame the board when it get's bigger and allows you to surf it more critically than with Rob's quads.
I got the new fins in a smaller sized seaside. I’m 5’10 165lbs, on a 5’6 32.7l board. To be honest I don’t really love the board. It’s hard to get into soft waves, really prefers a wave with a little push, and then once I’m in it the thing just blasts off with so much speed. So for me too fast when it’s shoulder high, too hard for soft waves, I only really liked it for clean small waves w decent shape. So I’ll probably sell mine. No complaints with the fins though, a little tracky but most of that is the board and the speed. I think it’s just not right for me and the waves I’m on. The one thing I will miss is how the seaside glides into waves with an angled takeoff, that always felt so good. Anyway thanks for sharing this review, it’s so helpful to hear other peoples experiences with surf gear. There’s so much out there and precious little good information. Thanks

Sounds like you should have gone a size larger to use it as a groveler. I had both a 5'6 and 5'7 for a long time and I've got 10lbs on you and my 5'7 was for the tiniest days up to chest, and the 5'6 was for when it was shoulder to two feet overhead. I've since sold the 5'6 and replaced it with a tomo fish for more performance in bigger surf, and I alternate between the 5'7 seaside and both a 5'6 and a 5'7 too fish as my dailys. If you still want performance in small waves the seaside or too fish is the way to go. Don't get a SP. I had one for a bit, but sold it since it was a shitty paddler and even though it's the best iteration of that shape, if doesn't hold a candle to the seaside or too fish in terms of performance in small waves.
I am currently using the new Machado Twin Keels (for the Too Fish) and like them. Have you tried the new twin keels, too?
I have the original Machado keels and they are ok but it sounds l really should get a set of the new Machado keels and compare them!

So you have a set of AMK's but you're advising us to buy another board before trying the AMK's in a Seaside? Luckily Noel Salas has thrown a set of AMK's in the Seaside and given his opinion and video footage of how they go. For small stuff he gave them a thumbs up. I run my Hughies quad fish with Rasta keels when its small. Less drag when paddling, easier wave catching and way more lively on the wave face.
Hi Pete, thanks for sharing your experience. I put this section of the Video there, in case you only have the one board. Some people only have one board so if you want to ride your Seaside as a twin, the AMK should work . I did see Noels Video as part of my research so I know they could do the job. I didn’t feel inclined to repeat the experiment. Perhaps a separate video for that testing if there is demand for a comparison of which fins will work best as a twin.
I measured where the front fin boxes are versus my Album Sunstone and the Seaside front boxes are a fair way forward. Compared to a usual Lis fish keel twin, the half Keel is likely to work better than a full keel, like the K2 or Rasta. The further forward the box the more upright the fin needs to be. But the wide position and lack or rear fins requires a fair bit of fin surface area. AMK or possibly BMT could fit that profile.
You will see an older video on my channel where I tested a keel fin on a DHD sweet spot so I learned from a long time ago this is a possibility but not ideal in some conditions. I mentioned it’s MY preference to ride a twin as a twin and a quad a quad. Because that’s what it was designed to do. Im not telling what your preference should be.
I’m certainly not telling you to go and buy another board. People are really good at buying more boards all by themselves. :)
