I've been riding a seaside ever since they came out and it's the only board that's still in my quiver which is a testament to its design. Over 30 board have come and gone over the past couple decades but this one is a keeper.

Surfed since a preteen until now in my mid 50s, as you get older the best thing you can do is buy boards from shapers that you can talk to and who can adjust the dimensions of their boards to your needs. Don't ride fish too long just to gain volume, especially in your 40s when aging isn't that great of a factor for most. Obese then you got to but usually just going up in thickness incrementally with adjustments to width will get you the best fit for your best performance. In your 50s you notice things slowing down, so you'll start going up in size faster to fit how you can surf more than how you want to surf.

Glad you’re havin fun on the seaside! I’m 175/180 ride the 5-8 and I wish I had gotten a 5-7 for those wondering about size. But I didn’t really click with the board until I started playing with fins. Found it was super fast down the line but for steeper takeoffs on head high to overhead conditions super slippery down the face. Swapped to the Tomo hatchet fins and the board changed so much it’s insane. Definitely worth giving a shot!!

Futures controllers are great for when you're pushing the board in more powerful surf. The Machado quads are great for chest and under, but for shoulder and up, try some controllers. These fins allowed me to push my 5'6 in 6ft hurricane swell last year.

Seaside is much faster and more playful. It has a much better lower end than the hypto. In punchy beach breaks you're going to love riding the seaside but it's really at home in 2-4ft surf. However, if your waves are not as steep (or your surfing at high tide) you can push it in overhead surf with the right fins. The hypto for me never worked well in small stuff. It comes alive in chest high and up though. If you size it right you can push it to a foot or two overhead which is the max I've ridden one. Sick board but it seems to need a punchy wave.
