I believe this game deserved a better chance at life they should have gave it for free one like the PlayStation 4 released has like a PS plus game and I believe this game would have got a s*** ton of hype out of that with a possibility of a sequel bro . Makes me sad another game that got the shirt on the stick was Star wars republic commando that was a great game as well

Vanquish ended on a kind-of cliffhanger, so yeah, there's hope. I thought i'd never play Wonderful 101 and remaster is coming out in april. I honestly love it when Platinum throws their old IPs at me.

I remember Richard back in the 2010 article saying very positive things about the game in a time when some reviewers were spreading lies about the game's length (which probably hurt the game's sales at the time), it makes my heart warm hearing Richard again spreading the truth and love about this excellent game. According to Wikipedia the game only sold 20,000 copies in North America so it would be neat if they gave that game a second chance on current generation consoles. I myself got the game through a Humble Bundle for PS3 but have yet to touch it.

And nobody has ever produced a shooter líke this one. I am having a Blast replaying this on the PS4 pro. I am amazed how even today all this gigantic battles with bullet time are displayed at 60fps on the actual consoles. Its a Joy to play. Pure arcade .

even on xbox one, its double last gens fps if not more, but a higher frame rate and a higher resolution isnt a huge generational difference is it lol.

@@AchiragChiragg Metal Gear Rising is said to be one of the best if not the best in the genre (at least before Nier: Automata came out). MGR: best in it's genre, worst Metal Gear game. Yes he has low standards if he thinks an even worse Platinum game than MGR (which is much worse than MGS) is the best.

Games that require practice, some skill to get the mechanics down, and learning the use them with finesse and eventual mastery. Creates a rewarding experience. It's sad how many people completely miss the point of the wisdom you're saying!

I got these games on steam for $5 like 2 months ago. I played them on ps3 originally and man it was a treat. Great games

@@VonTaylan The game isn't optimized in any way other than resolution, if the game supports backwards compatibility, since the new version has no new assets, they should look the same providing the upscaling is no different.
Runs native 4k 60fps easily on my PC lol. 1080p 120fps on my laptop (GSYNC screen on laptop).

@@VonTaylan Vanquish is not among the Backwards Compatible games for Xbox One. While I tend to never say never, I'm doubtful that will change once the Series X releases & the Backwards Compatibility program resumes again, especially as it's being said the Series X will provide BackCompat for Xbox One games across the board on top along with what the Xbox One is BackCompat with (Though I'm prepared to be corrected on that). So I would say you'd be better off going for the Vanquish re-release in the long run, especially as you get a higher frame-rate & resolution from it (Even if the Base/S models dip as heavily as was shown).
I occasionally remember playing the demo of this game since it came out, that's a great compliment. I was to poor to afford it then, I'll be picking this up now

I’d take 60fps with lower res on all enhanced games
totally agree, extra res only makes low level of detail and low res textures stick out more.
Also who even cares about the graphics in Vanquish, graphically it's not very impressive, it's all about smooth frame rates
I though low resolution wouldn't be issue a long time ago. Then I connected Gamecube to 4K tv with A/V cables. Resident Evil Remake at 60 fps, oh yeah. Except I can't see any pickable objects anywhere because resolution is really bad.
PC version is better imo. My GTX 1070 w/ GSYNC laptop destroys this game.
Janne Laitinen your problem is that you're using composite cables on a 4K TV with a console that displays its games in 480i / 480p. Resident Evil remake also runs at 30fps.
Vanquish is such a good game. One of the few I replayed multiple times last gen. So good and also somehow underrated/undervalued.
Things like this kinda confirm how I use my PS4 Pro and my general view of this gen. I never intended them to be a 4K machine. I use a Pro at 1080p and in almost every game it gives a perfect performance. I use whatever patch they have and/or Boost Mode at 1080p and only the most hefty titles run with any flaw, most run absolutely perfectly.
Even the enhanced models this gen were underpowered and 4K always felt like a stretch. I wish all titles just focused on giving the best 1080p experience and leave 4K to be the base resolution on the coming gen. I don't even want to hear about 8K on those. Just don't. Stay on 4K and put resources into frame rate/effects.
I wouldn't mind if PS5/Xbox Series X have an option to play all games at 1080p60 with higher graphic presets too

Same. I honestly don't care about 4K at the moment. Maybe sometime in next gen but I wish the same graphical options that PC has were on console. Optimize how you like as a dev but allow users to have a higher frame rate at sacrifice of resolution or effects or any combo of all that.
X delivered plenty of native 4k games. Even in hige AAA games
@@Christoph22KakaFan yes but at the cost of higher graphical settings and smooth fps, Lower res with maxed out settingsand high fps is far superior to high res lower settings, low fps. I have both one x and ps pro but I also have a high end pc 9900ks 2080ti and dont have to worry about lowering settings but still play at 1440 maxed out and it looks better and beats any game in one x and it's so called 4k
@@DannyWilliamH Games like God of War and Death Stranding look absolutely amazing on a 4K HDR TV with the PS4 Pro. Probably thanks to smart application of reconstruction methods like checkerboarding for the image even though the native resolution can't hit 4K. I think third party devs aren't as good as utilizing the Pro as Sony might have hoped for based on their own studios.

Played Vanquish on the 360 when released way back and didn't notice anything other than the fact that i was playing a fantastic fast paced futuristic 3rd person shooter.
TRUE but that's because you literally didn't know any better. The PC version wasn't even out yet for you to see the night and day difference in quality.
Regardless, the "spiritual essence" of the game(story, characters, etc) is intact across all platforms including last gen.

I usually don't but when it drops down mad cheap i may pick it up again on the X1X..it's that good imo.

Vanquish has been in my heart since I first played. When this bundle was announced I rejoiced.
One of the most exceptional action shooters of the 3rd Millennium.
You guys should do more head-to-heads for new releases, especially when they're this kind of niche.
This is what I like about Digital Foundry you can tell how much they enjoyed Vanquish not because it was a popular game that generates a lot of clicks but because they genuinely had a good time with it and remembered how good of a game it was. Probably the reason why I enjoy the retro games they showcase
GREAT game and played it like crazy on my 360 back then. Now i'm happy with the PC remaster.
Vanquish was always in my top 10 of all time and the best shooter I have ever played, it deserves another shot on modern consoles!

I'm glad I finally get a chance to play this. My parents bought it for me when it first came out on Xbox, but I stayed at a friend's and his sister knocked the system over about five minutes in and broke it. Here I am, now an adult with a PS4 and recently got a gaming PC so either way I can enjoy this game 😁

Yes, the tri-weapon pack DLC is included. I‘ve been playing both games all week and I´m having an absolute blast, it´s fantastic to play them again with these visuals and smoothness at last. Its announcement was like a dream come true for me too.

He's very outspoken _against_ sequels though. RE is an exception, because he was kinda forced and talked into it. He still made them very distinguished. 1, 2 and 4 differ quite a lot, particularly the latter.

Vanquish was amazing. I bought the 10th Anniversary edition for obvious reasons and also to support games like this that aren't tentpole triple A games. I'd love to see a sequel but the game industry has been getting rougher and rougher as budgets and develop cycles get higher and longer to qualify people's expectations in this crowded gaming market.

Uaaaaauuuu. I found this game in bundle with Bayonetta just buy luck. Biggest surprise in 35 years of playing home video games. One of my top 10 ever for shure. And uuuaauuuu is what keeps coming on my mind all the time playing. Incredible game experiance.

I really hope they give us some surprise dlc. Doubt it tho. Still, I’ve never played Bayonetta. So that’s a huge bonus.

I played it on PS3. I bought PC version when it came out, with bayonetta. On Ryzen 3600, GTX1080, 1440p 144hz, Vanquish plays 110~144fps. I just hope PlatinumGames to port all its games to PC!
As an Xbox One S owner, I’m going to hold off on Vanquish, which I love and play through BackCompat. I’ll pick up Bayonetta though as I’ve wanted to go through it again for a while. Good video chaps!
I recently played through Vanquish on PC at 4K and I also experienced performance dip during the visor scenes. Not sure why but I just lived with it.
Never heard of Vanquish till about a year ago while watching a Whatculture video. Showed that cigarette distraction move and there I knew I just had to purchase this game. I looked it over multiple times on the Xbox store, didn’t purchase it though, didn’t wanna rush it or treat it like a last minute purchase. But then a few days ago I heard this rerelease was out and I just purchased it 3 minutes ago for OneX after watching this video. Can’t wait to play.
Still have the Remastered PC version on Steam and didn't play it. But played a lot of it on PS3 back in the day and really loved it. Would love to see a sequel from them on next gen graphics for PS5 and/or PC.
To me, anything between 45-60 is smooth with slight noticable difference. Tearing on other hand, is what I hate the most

Get yourself a g sync monitor and say goodbye to tearing. I recently upgraded to a Asus tough gaming 1440 144htz G sync monitor. It left me wondering why I waited so long to upgrade.

Just played the PC version for 2 hours or so, what a ride so far! Graphics are amazing for such an old game, especially in 4k!
You said Bayonetta is running the UI assets at native 4K. Perhaps the 1st person visor scenes are rendering those assets at 4K as well, and it's causing the PS4 pro to struggle?
Not sure if this is helpful at all, but I recently played this game on my PC, which I would easily consider to be overpowered for this game, and those same first person sequences that slowed the ps4 down to the 50s also slowed my framerate just a tad bit. Interesting.
Can't wait till Rich and John review games on the NextGen hardware in the following years to come. I'm exited and anxious to see what kind of power these new consoles are gonna have, new games and ported titles are gonna be interesting to see how they play out.

High resolution = crispy
High framerate = smooth
Smooth is what you're looking for, not crispy. Especially since many games can be set to a resolution or a performance mode.

Oh yeah the visor is a performance hog on PC too if your pc has lower specs. It was baffling there too, but they put out a console command you could use to pretty much remove the performance issues in those segments. No idea what it changes, but maybe that command is what's being used on the lower spec consoles with the Pro not using it?
There's still a question that hasn't been answered by the video: are the PS4 and XO ports based on one (or maybe both) console version(s) thus brand new ports, or are they both based on the PC version? Considering there were lots of timing and damage differences between the PC version and the original ones at launch (that still persist to this day, though not very noticeable) due to the switch from 30fps to much higher framerates, I'm wondering if these new ports are any different in that regard.
Also, the PC version can struggle a bit on the visor segments, and there's a specific launch option to enable a "fast mode" to avoid heavy dips. Maybe it's enabled on every console except the enhanced ones, only causing issues on the PS4 Pro at 1440p?

Your post is confusing. Why would the PS4 vanilla not be based on the PS4 Pro version? They are likely the same chunk of data with just different settings depending on if it's run on vanilla or Pro. Or what do you mean? What are you asking?
