I thought I was the only one that really loved the GameCube version of this game! I've owned every version of this game and played multiple times and I still think the GameCube version is still the best 10 years later.

Ok ok maybe it's me but I thought the PS4 and X1 versions looked waaaaay better than the PC Mod project one. The jacket looks like leather, the ground looked more detailed and everything looked crisp. The PC Mod looked blurry. Not looking to offend or upset anyone but that's what I see.
I know what you're saying, it looked kind of blurry, but TRUST me, head over to the RE 4 HD Project Mod page and see the comparisons, what they are doing is insane, the video doesn't do it justice at all.
The reason in videos the PS4/XB1 ports look sharper is because they have no AA. In a compressed video it may look to have sharper textures but all of the edges would be jagged.
That video doesn't show any remastered characters, they only did the locations then... thats why.
If they sacrificed anti-aliasing to ensure the frame rate, then they made the right decision, IMO
The PS4 and XB1 should be able to handle a version of AA on it. No mention of AF on this one.

I would like to point out if you didn't know already, PS4 allows for key binds for controllers so you can swap R1 and L1 with R2 and L2 via accesibility settings on PS4.

I know, this option on ps vita and ps4 has saved me, as i recently severed my thumb tendons and the top of my knuckle with a machete.

Loved the opening. This being a game I revisit in some form around every third year or so it brought a smile on my face. I alternate between the GC version and the HD PC version these days myself and have not actually checked out the texture mod yet so thank you for the heads up.

Xdium yeah, the things that stuck out to me the most were the jacket and the walls.
That's the lack of anti-aliasing. It may make it look a bit sharper initially in a video with side-by-side comparison as YT compression smashes anti-aliased textures, but the actual in-person viewing experience is much worse.

On PS4 you can use the accessibility feature to assign any button function to any other button, so the thing with the shoulder buttons isnt an issue.

The OP just stated: You can go into settings and change the buttons on the PS4. That's it. Don't need to go full defense force.

Thank you! when I would talk about the shimmering and anti aliasing I was noticing on my 4k TV and spare 1080P TV, friend and others would argue they didn't notice anything. Overall great feel on xb1 but since I'm kind of a videophile and audiophile the small things like this can catch me real quick and make me focus on it vs overall good quality

@@rkitchen69 Well the Wii version for a time was an upgrade over the original and PS2 and are very accurate to the original.
That would be awkward. The PS4 controller isn't shaped right to be used in the same way as Wii motion controls.
How did you record the Wii version? Through component on a real Wii, or through HDMI on the Wii U? I ask because I don't remember the Wii version being quite that dark, and I know recording it on HDMI desaturates the colors a bit.
6:09 Glad to see I'm not the only one who liked Wii/Cube version lighting, For whatever reason every other port since then has muted lighting / dim torches & flame effects..they really lowered the intensity ..it sounds trivial but pretty noticeable when comparing both side by side, especially when playing through nighttime levels.
I'm sorry guys I know you can't say the words, "better than the PC." So you have to find every little thing you can put in the win column but if you look at 1:54 and you think the picture on the right looks better and has better textures then please go see the eye doctor you can get your vision corrected to up to 20/10.
Before you say anything I buy most of my games on PC and I go for whichever version is the better port, has more features, or better graphics etc (so for example Arkham Knight on PS4, Overwatch on PC). I have a 680, i7, blah blah blah (were new in 13 when purchased). I'm just realistic about these things and admitting that some games can have better versions on console is not going to bring the whole "PC master race" down. The sad thing is the whole "master race" thing started off as a joke but the more it goes on the more y'all act like supremacists. "PC ONLY NO EXCEPTIONS CONSOLES MUST BE PUT TO DEATH."
yes, the HD texture was turned off from the pc version,see min 3:04 (the wall behind leon) I did a quick comparison from this video with vs the pc hd texture on , the pc version look better more clear ,but the console version look more sharper , today I am going to buy the xbox one version , I missed the console feeling :)

That's not because of worse textures, that's blur from AA which (because this is PC) can be turned down or off entirely. That's the great thing about PC, if you don't like the way a setting looks it can be turned off.
Oldish comment but it looks to be both. He's using the FXAA for sure (do people really use that willingly?) postprocess and the original gamecube textures. Weird thing to do since he's trying to compare them, but hey PC gaming is all about choice (not power like people seem to always imply).
Not sure why he doesn't just run the game on PC using a gamecube pad w/adapter, but who really knows.

My settings are set to the HD textures and only look slightly better than the Original textures. They don't look NEARLY as sharp as the PS4 and Xbox One versions, I literally just checked again and they still look muddy and blurry. :/
I also have the sped up aim animation problem on PC and have found no way to fix it.
+BustyChicks FTW I'd be surprised since the Xbox version is closer to x86 arch and programming language. Thus easier to port to PC.
On a side note: Weirdly, my accelerated aim animation problem went away but the aim still feels a bit off compared to my Wii and GC versions. Textures still look like shit, but, if you turn off the in-game AA and AF and use your GPU control panel for those it makes it look much better, the in-game AA has FXAA on top of MSAA and the AF kind of blurs the textures, both of those issues are gone when using your control panel. You can also disable the Vsync by editing the ini file under My Documents\My Games\Capcom\RE4 then set it to read only otherwise it overwrites it every time you start the game. Personally, I think we got the short end of the stick again, the PS4 and Xbone versions and their textures look waayyy superior to the "HD" textures in the Ultimate HD version on PC. :/
The PS4 and XBONE version is newer and they could rework things since the Ultimate HD release.

Darien Goheen More than likely they spruced them up more as next-gen consoles are more mainstream and net them more money. But, the Xbox One version is basically the same (or should be, atleast) as the PC version, even when modding games on the Xbox 360, the files are in the same folder layout as their PC counterparts and often times even in the same file formats. So it would be almost no work on their end to give us those juicy HD textures. I also never saw if they reworked the menu, typewriter or pause screen textures as they're just filtered and upscaled from the original textures.
Either way, it's bullshit we get the short end of the stick every time.

If Im not mistaken there's a group of people who have been making an upgraded texture pack for the PC version. I don't know if its finished yet but it makes a significant difference from what I saw.

That'd be just about perfect, I think.
I just want to make mention of some things that this video doesn't mention. For clarity's sake, I played the XBOX 360 and XBOX One ports for a direct comparison. The Ultimate HD Edition textures and 60FPS are aesthetically pleasing for sure, but there were performance hiccups that hampered my experience compared to the 2011 HD port.
- Accelerated animations (the laser sight glitch obviously, but also items dropping down and particle effects like the water in jet ski sequence were 2x speed)
- More difficult QTE sections (perhaps tied to the framerate?)
- Some button priorities were out of whack, e.g. I couldn't skip text picking up an item while using the thumbstick to move and holding the run button on the XB1 (if you've used an old keyboard that can't detect more than two key presses at once, you know this feeling)
- Enemy behaviour has also seems to have been altered in sections to be more inconvenient to the player (I noticed this in the Mine
where you need dynamite to blow up a boulder)
All of these screwed with my muscle memory and I took quite a while to work through them and actually finish the XB1 version. So it performs better on paper, but my estimation is the 2011 HD ports are still more stable and closer to how the OG GameCube version behaved

I think this game looked far better on the Gamecube and Wii. I really don't like how 60FPS looks in a lot of these remasters. The smoothness takes me out of the experience, and the increased resolution and sharpness makes you notice how dated the textures are, not to mention the 30fps animations mixed in. Everything looks spot-on and uniform on the Gamecube/Wii, and the grain gave it atmosphere. The other versions just look too clean and sterile.
The smoothness takes you out of what experience? The experience of not having as smooth of a frame rate? Though I can agree with the rest, nothing beats a PS2/gamecube at its native resolution on a CRT screen.
Pc you can pick 30fps in the settings
Pc the texture pack mod l, has evolved a lot, including lighting fixes, 3d textures, lot more.

Started playing this masterpiece for the first time today on ps4. I went in worried because I wasn't into resident evil 1 ps4 but this is straight up incredible.

For me personally I choose the Wii, absolutely love the control setup. Could never get into the game playing it with a traditional controller no matter which system, from GameCube too Xbox One.
The GC is by far the best controller for this game. The game was made and calibrated for the GC stick and it shows. Youre so dumb.

I LOVE RE4. I finished it on PS2 and I got the Gamecube, Wii, PS3, and the PC versions.
Why do you need all those versions?
I did the same! Started on PS2, and then went back for the Cube version. Eventually played the game on nearly every platform.

Still aside of resolution the GC/Wii are the best versions. It has the best color palette and lightning and have bloom to the fire effects.

And one more notice. Unless you completely redone all models for higher count of polygons, avoid playing in HD. These games aren't suppose to play in HD. For me it is completely ok to play in 800x600 with antialiasing. Best visuals for me.

when you do battlefield 1 beta performance test on the consoles, could you test if increasing the fov slider reduces fps. I've always thought the reason why games have no fov option on the consoles was because they can't handle it and fps would be lower so it would be interesting to see if that's the case

You realize that the pc version shown in this video were on the original gamecube graphics setting right? There is no way physically possible for a game to look better on console than pc unless purposely made that way for some dumbass reason

I'm sorry guys, but the PC version's easily the best even without mods. It's great on PS4 and XOne but the shimmering textures and the lack of anti-aliasing make it look considerably worse than the PC version. Add the RE4 HD project to the mix and the game looks better than ever on PC.

Why does the pc hd version looks so blurry? On the ps4 and xbox one I can see the textures on the Leon jacket, while on the pc 2014 edition and even on the hd project look so wash up. Is it because of the compression of the capture card or something else?

you recently did a video on what is a teraflop. can you do a video on V-sync. In every video I've seen, the V-sync is always turned off, if it's such a negative thing/setting, why do developers continue to support/offer it?
Wii/GCN versions are still the best for me, Just Finished the Wii version on a Sony BVM profissional Monitor and it looked gorgeous

There is a guy that's been working on a texture mod for every little thing since early 2014 and he is just missing the last hour of the game or so but has a demo texture of the entire village section that it's beyond outstanding it's free also.
I noticed the change in textures immediately, and I don't like the new ones, I was hoping for an option as well, such a shame, the motion blur, which I love in almost every other game was dissapointing too, it just didn't look right, I don't have the technical knowledge to explain, but thanks to DF I understand it wasn't just me going crazy :P
The no antialising thing doesn't bother me at all. The fact that they changed the default control options annoys me a little, but at least you have the option there.

Usually when I play RE4 on gamecube, on an HD TV, I just set the picture mode on my TV to Zoom, which just stretches in vertically so it fits as well as have a proper aspect ratio so I can see better and the models aren't so squished

How do we fix that accelerated animation when aiming? I am being affected by it and is preventing me from shooting hints far away.
That is so weird. One of the users that ran into this problem said that it disappeared after moving through a couple areas. I was never able to replicate it and have no clue what is causing it. There has to be something triggering this bug. If you start a new game and pull out your weapon immediately, do you still have the bug?

I just grabbed the remastered versions of Resi 4, 5 and 6 for under £12 on PS4! Happy with that, 4 is a stone cold classic and the others are reasonable, tho I don't recall if I ever even played 6. Something else to add to the pile of shame!

It's funny you posted this because I returned my GC version to get the PS4 version. No regrets, I am a big fan of the HD version and while the controls are more tedious, I would rather better quality and the replay value of Seperate Ways.
