    It’s an interesting concept to protect the postmarked stamp with a plastic layer, I’ve seen a full cover protected in the mail, but not a single stamp. 🤔

    Thanks Ted! I really like how you go through the motions and calculate your cost vs value and then show your soaking and organization. I guesstimate that about 1/3 of CV is what actual value of stamps are. Need to find an inexpensive set of used Scott in order to determine that. My local library does not have one as a reference and I cannot afford a new set, :). Do you organize and re-sell your duplicates? Botswana has some really pretty stamps. Again, Thanks to you and Graham @Exploring Stamps for your very educational videos.

    Very interesting episode. My kiloware experiences go back to the days when stamp stuff could be found in stationary stores ( the late 50's). I used to buy a linen colored bag of unworked stamps take them home and do what you did. Also, the stamps you recieved were nicely cancelled. I hate it when a nice stamp has had a disfiguring obliterating cancel.Our postal service can take a hint and do away with those horrible black cancels they have been using at Christmas time. Have you noticed this? I have a feeling they won't.

    Hi Ted Thanks for replying back to my previous messages. I hope the beginners series will start soon. I would like to know where the numbers used for stamps are coming from, how do you catalogue your stamps - do you use a special software to catalogue the visual along with the name / nomination/ year/ country of issue - what makes a stamp more precious, how to give bath to a stamp, how to read the seals, FDC’s and cancelattions, difference between the stamp and various related products sold by post offices (FDCs - Souveniour sheets) and many more. Is it better to have a used or a mint condition stamp, should we get stamps posted or keep them as is? Are older stamps more valuable or that’s not always the case? Should we buy the stamps in full if they are printed in series, does the value affected based on the issuing country or the print run….The more I watch the more questions I come up with every day.

    Really enjoyed this episode Ted! I prefer pre-1970's stamps. I just wonder if there are kiloware dealers who deal in older stamps?

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  3 роки тому

      Generally, if you are looking at kiloware of all older material, it means you are getting “floor sweepings” - mixtures that have already been picked through for better items, and stamps stripped from albums which have been cherry picked of its better items. That’s why I am leery about ordering an off-paper worldwide mix. I don’t want to end up with thousands of British 1/2p, 1p, and 1 1/ 2p stamps from long definitive sets.

    Hi Ted, I became a member of Hipstamp thanks to your advice yet I run into an issue on Hipstamp which I wanted to run through you. I bid on many stamps which ended up with me for 0.01 each and a total of 3.56$ but I was charged for 30.50 just only for shipping from Arizona to Toronto, when I reached out to the seller they confirmed the shipping would only cost 18$ yet he said he has other expenses like hipstamps commision and paypal commision as well which makes 23$. My question to you is; is it a common practice to charge this expenses and some profit to buyers under shipping expenses

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  2 роки тому +2

      That is excessive shipping. When buying or bidding on HipStamp, be sure to check the shipping fees to see if the seller adds additional fees for each additional stamp in an order.
      It sounds, to me, that he is charging extra shipping because he did not get the price he wanted in the auctions. That’s his tough luck.
      HipStamps terms and conditions require sellers to charge reasonable shipping. What he is doing is unreasonable. Contact HipStamp support@hipecommerce.com.
      It is because of dealers like him that I belong to the IPDA, which you may have seen me advertise. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior by dealers. Good luck.
