Beautiful selection of stamps that you purchased at auction. You asked how that one might manage the stamp lot that you received. I can relate from my own experience, and perhaps I can share something that might be of help. I had an uncle who left me a massive amount of stamps in numerous boxes. Some of the stamps were quite good, while others were common and there was a lot of disorganization. There were over 50 albums; stock books that were jammed with stamps; and many envelopes containing stamps. He was clearly overwhelmed by what he had. The key to organizing it was to have a system. I use a set of Scott catalogues to inventory my collection. Every stamp which I add to my collection, if the catalog lists it, I mark it in the catalog. I can look in the catalog and tell whether or not I have a certain stamp. By the way I mark it in the catalog, I can tell whether any stamp I have is used or unused; hinged, on cover, a multiple; etc. When I work on something like this, I work on one thing at a time. I don’t go to the next thing before I am finished with the unit I am working on. First I would work on any albums that I would want to keep for my own use. Any stamps that I don’t have which are in these albums, I mark in the catalogues. I figure that I will probably be using these albums for other stamps in the lot , which is why I would work on them first. After I am finished going through the albums that I want to keep, I work on one unit at a time, whether it is an album that I don’t need, a stock book or envelope containing any number of stamps. Any stamps that I find that I want to keep from any of these units I will put in the albums that I am using, if there is space. If no space in the albums, I will put them in stock sheets , if listed I will put them in catalog order. If not listed, I will guess in what order they should go. For a mishmash of loose stamps, etc; I will get a workable amount and sort them out by country, first, then by date, using the catalog. By getting a system, and by breaking things down to workable units; and my use of the Scott catalogs, I have been able to organize literally thousands of stamps , so that I know what I have and I can go right to almost any stamp in my collection.

What a great system. I do something a bit like it but have not made use of my Scott's. Perhaps I should do so from now on. I start by separating what I want to keep for my own collection, what i can resell and any of the few that are damage go into the trash. I also set aside stamps that need to be soaked for processing later. Still takes a lot of time though, but fun time ,well spent!

@@StampSleuth The time spent is well worth it. I enter into my Scott’s even the most common stamps that I have put into my collection. This has really enabled me to keep track of everything that I have. The unlisted stamps that I keep such as: cinderellas and stamps more recent than my catalogs and albums, I put them in what I feel is an appropriate place in the stock books. I have my stock books arranged so that the order of the countries that they contain matches the order of the countries in the Scott catalog. The stamps themselves are also placed in my stock books in catalog order. Organization is really key to being able to fully enjoy your collection.

Nice video! I see lots like this offered quite often so it's so nice to see what one looks like in its entirety. The North Borneo at 15:40 (on the top of the stock page) are my picks of the bunch. That orangutan stamp is one of my favourites. 💖
You ask what we'd do with a lot like this. I'd likely send all the topicals off to you! The recent, ultra colourful Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Liberia, Guyana type stuff doesn't thrill me. But I'd sort and search every one of those old, broken up stockbooks with glee. 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us!

Holy moly! That's a lot of stamps! You're going to be busy for a while 😊 To answer your question around 11:00 I'd be paralyzed with indecision on how to organize them all haha 😅 What an amazing stamp unboxing! They're all so beautiful and I learned some new facts. Great video!

Great box. I’d spend three months enrapt in that box. I’d pick for my collection and look to gift away the rest. I loved a bunch of those Turkish stamps from the wwi era. I probably ought to learn to sell the stamps I don’t use.

Wow! What a huge treasure lot of stamps! They also seemed to be largely very good quality stamps. You are going to enjoy working through them very much. What would I do with such a lot? Probably first pack them away and unpack them little by little. At the moment I am sorting some world mix lots into countries and file them away for later further sorting, cataloguing and working into the collection. I can say one thing! You will certainly be much more productive than what I could dream to be. I work pretty slowly and is a bit of a perfectionist. 🙂🙃🙂 How do you order your bird thematic collection? By country, possibly by bird classification? Thanks for showing us the lot!!! It was very exciting. 🙂

I have actually set aside what I will add to my own collection and lotted off what will go to auction, its about a fifty fifty split because, you are right, lots of good quality material. I actually do a bit of both on my bird topical collection.

So you collect both according to bird classification and country in your bird collection? Sorry I am so insistent! I just cannot decide myself how about to do the bird stamps. 🙂🐦@@StampSleuth

Wow! What a lot. I could spend hours just looking at stamps in anticipation of what I mght find next. I am anxiously awaiting the videos of your finds. Especially the sand dunes as I have a Minkus album which pictures a lot that Scott does not. I have also been getting into souvenir sheets which I see that you have a lot of. I also see that you have some Belgian precancels. I collect those also. How do I find your lots on Ebay?

I'm currently sorting through a big collection I bought from someone. Next to that I buy whatever topics I like and sort everything by country and then by topic

7:57 if they are mint then I would highly suggest laying them side by side with a slight space as by time if you don’t visit them (and air) they may stick up and can be damaged easily while separating which will higly affect their value
