    Omg..awesome Turkish stamps.. Am going to see if I can get me some of those..
    Interesting stuff re hipstamps.. We've got a similar one that does ship out of UK called UPA auctions - am sure you must have heard of it. They send out a catalogue every quarter, 6 weeks in advance.. Bids need to be submitted on a Tuesday before 5pm. Then they process them and send out emails to all the winning bids. Why I like about them is they insert a foldout listing all the lots that were sold and how much for. If it's not sold then it gets marked as US, then next time around US2 and so on.. It starts of with a minimum bid of 80% their estimate (not cat value - I usually to for those max 20% cat value) ..next time they knock off 11% and next 12%.. If it gets to a point where it's like US10 or thereabouts (sometimes much earlier), they mark it as BB - bag a bargain and accept bids from £1. You can bid for as many lots as you like but enter them on the form in priority order. You can also select bid steps so for stamps up to around £30, you can have bid steps ascending in £1 increments.. Obviously higher values will have bigger minimum increments..
    Anyway I am going to definitely check out hipstamps and look into their UK shipping costs.. Thanks Ted!😊👍

      I’ve been on their mailing list in the past, and even got a nice set if the last 3rd Reich stamps issued, when they ran a promotion. That’s been quite a while (years) ago, and I guess they grew tired of me not participating in their auctions. 🤷‍♂️

    The Turkish stamps are nice and cheap, cheap because almost nobody collects stamps in Turkey. The Portugese stamps are beautiful I love the cds on the stamps, the French colony stamps has 5c decentred, always nice. The Swedish stamp beautiful as well. The american stamp with an automobile is nice too, well centred, nice design too. I buy stamps in europe, without costs for an auction, totally free, the world has changed, nowadays collectors are the dealers and it is a lot cheaper. Today ww3 started in Ukraine , there are no a lot of bargains everywhere, the collectors are not bidding, they watch the news, same in the summer, much less bidders is more bargains.

      @tedtalksstamps  2 роки тому

      Turkiye is not so popular outside of that country, either, as most collectors are discouraged by not being able to read and identify the stamps. Thanks for your comments, Wolfie.

      @@tedtalksstamps Hello Ted, and now there is a lot of inflation going on in Turkey, if someone invests in stamps always look at the economic situation of the country, inflation means prices go down is a bad investment. (inflation is now worldwide) but i have a bid now on Norwegian kiloware stamps on paper 2015-2020, Norway is economic maybe the strongest country in the World.

      I agree; if one is going to invest in the stamps of a particular country, it's best to find a country with a growing middle class of consumers. That is what drove the prices of China over the last decades.

    Beautiful selection of stamps that you acquired from Hipstamp. You may be interested to know more about what is pictured on US #296 which you have. Along with the 1901 Pan American Exposition set, I also have a article clipped years ago from a May 1901 paper announcing the issue of this set. Each stamp in the set was explained in detail by this article. Each stamp design in this set was taken from photographs that were current to 1901. According to the article, the 4 cent stamp showed an automobile, probably electric, which was owned by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in front of the US Capitol. The B&O railroad was the first railroad to provide a service of picking up passengers by automobile and taking them to the station to board the train. This what this stamp is showing, a service that we know nothing about today. In a letter written in 1904, my grandmother mentioned about her senior class being picked up by the railroad at the school and taken to the train in electric cars for their senior class trip to Washington, DC. This is the story behind what is illustrated by the 4 cent Pan American Exposition stamp which you have.

Thanks for the advice on Hipstamp They have nice selection of stamps.I will be buying from them,I just got back into my stamp collecting hobby .back in the early 90's I belonged to a stamp club out of plymouth,michigan it was a blast loved it! I now live up in northern michigan far away from any major city's.. btw love all the imfo you put out! I have a question..how would one unstick stamps that got humid and stuck to the paper glasines? steam them? no way would I soak them in water..they are mint stamps and wanna keep them that way..any imfo would help sir!

      Welcome back to the hobby. I’m afraid anything you do to unstick those stamps will ruin their mint status. At best they will all have disturbed gum. You might try a sweat box. There is a YT video by Postal Pleasures that gives details on the procedure: ua-cam.com/video/AazNXHR7M7Q/v-deo.html

      Un stick STUCK Stamps, depending on overall size Stamp Lifter Dark Green top & bottom w cream middle holey ?'shelf'?, i put wasser in bottom - if you get box when closed Herimatically Sealed inside makes 4 very high humidity, and meby gueaas and by gosh allow humidity to do its work - softens adhesives & you can separate stuck items, very care fully. How you remove adhesive from top of the stamp is more careful touch and go work! ? W q tips? You has to decide. But When Adhesive dries oon top you has shiny surface sheen.

    Is Ebay any good to buy from? Ive never done Ebay yet ..but I seen they have a lot of stamps for sale .. is it safe to buy from as in not getting ripped off?

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  3 роки тому

      You’re not going to get ripped off. Even if the seller tries to pull some over on you, you have Ebay and PayPal on your side. I don’t like ebay, though, and only go there when I’m having trouble finding what I want elsewhere. Many of the same dealers are on HipStamp anyway. Ebay just has a larger base of international dealers, whom I rarely use because their prices are usually more expensive, and their higher shipping fees make it even worse.
      The user experience is also bad and keeps getting worse. Ebay keeps doing more and more to isolate the buyer from the seller. They are so worried about people negotiating off-site transactions that they make it very difficult for buyers and sellers to communicate.
