I’ve found a great way to find - and build - a community based our love of stamps is to join a Stamp Club, both a local club and a specialty club. I have found a lot of joy through the American Helvetia Philatelic Society for my Swiss collecting.

I recently joined our local Philatelic Society - one of the oldest in my part of Canada. A totally fantastic way to join other like-minded enthusiasts!

I know what you mean about loneliness in the hobby, but through my own channel and others, I have connected with like-minded people and what I like most is the absolutely amazing show of support and kindness I have received, I enjoy your channel and I especially like the stories you have behind your stamps/,adventures.
Keep up the good work you are doing.

Another great episode on your journey. I must say you remind me of a 5 year old on Christmas day when you open those packages. Thank you for an entertaining Sunday morning from a damp and grey England.

I believe it’s a testament to your genuine appreciation and your prior time and effort on your vids on your channel that your “gifts” of recent stamps are so personal to you and mean so much.
Those maps and pics u just opened were the bomb and I trust that there is someone out there watching you opening them with your genuine enthusiasm that feels the same way as you
A very personal gift, that I’m sure you never dreamed it would morph into, but again a collective vicarious thanks to you.
    Deservingly so.
Thanks….. from the rest of us 🎉😊

The maps and pictures came from an old encyclopedia I picked up in used bookstore in 1970. The text pages were mildeewed falling apart but the maps and pics were on better quality paper and so I decided to remove them thus committing a mortal sin in the Eyes of bibliophiles around the globe. After half century of sitting in a storage box I happily donate them to Mr. SILKontheWeb for the edification of t😮 superb site's audience.

Appreciate the sentiment of today’s video, especially as a little younger philatelic who’s newer to the hobby. I can feel a little out of place in the communities of postcrossing, stamp collecting, etc. because the primary demographic are older folk who are more seasoned in the hobbies. I’d love to know more people my age/in their twenties who engage in these things, but for now I’ll accept and enjoy this quiet little corner of mine hah

Hey @ronireneart - most of us older ones here started as 5-6yr olds and went thru our young lives enjoying this great hobby. Of course we didnt have the internet back then and writing letters and postcards was how we communicated with each other over distance. We are young at heart too and still think young, even if our bodies are packing it in a little. We are all here to impart our knowledge to the younger generation if asked. So nice to have younger ones today discovering our great little hobby. All the best (from a young feeling 63yo) from New Zealand. 🙂

I agree... and one of the reasons I started this UA-cam journey... I've gone to a few stamp clubs in my area and it didn't mesh. I'm still looking... and building community here on UA-cam...

We are lucky in my area, there is a philately club here in town that I’m going to join. Also my mailman collects stamps. Of course the on line community is great also. Thank you for a great video.

While I have joined your community out of nostalgia, those of us who collect anything share a certain kinship in our love for beauty and history. Opening up about our collecting journeys can be daunting in that it can open us up to theft so a certain amount of trust must be earned.

Another 'cooooooooolllllll' video, as always, Mr Silk 😄I look forward to your videos every Sunday morning (NZ time) and enjoy a nice strong cup of tea whilst taking it all in. A highlight of my week. Please keep it up and have a great day.

Another great video. I look forward to each new video and I totally relate with the lonely feeling. I only know one person who collects stamps, my father and he doesn't spend much time on it anymore. I really wish I could meet some people I could meet with once a month or even every 2 months to talk stamps and show what I've been working on and get advice about different stamp related things

Hi, Just wondering as I don't know how PO boxes work, is there a size limit to the package that can be received, would it be like a C5 envelope/bubble pack or could it be larger?
Do you have or know of a Discord chat server (Like skype/teams)?

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  6 місяців тому +2

Any size... if it's bigger than the box they set it aside for me and I can pick it up later...

Awesome! @@silkontheweb, I was a little concerned about things being folded/squished to fit in a box
