I just wanted to let you know that I lost my brother unexpectedly to a brain aneurysm a week ago today. He was 56. It was a very emotional and exhausting week. I watch all of your videos and the John Deere episode helped me think about something else and even laugh! So thank you for all you do. Your videos go much deeper than just car restorations. I appreciate you bringing joy to a very painful week. I pray for continued success for you and your family. Thank you, guy!
I'm sorry for your loss 🙏
Hey bud, I’m so sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to my mom 10 years ago. The only difference was someone was standing next to her when it happened and called 911.
Keep your head up and live in your brothers honor and memory.
I feel the same way when i see him tasting engine fluids. A guy has grown to care for a guy. Keep them harmful substances out yo mouth. ❤
I’m sorry to hear this, I agree that this channel is something deeper than just fixing old cars up. I really feel that this family cares about the people who are watching and are staying down to earth as a result.
My condolences remember to live like it's your last day cuz none of us are getting out of here alive
Hey Derrick,
I have been upholstering for 57 years. The next time you do any upholstery in vinyl . On the back section spray the foam with silicone to help th corners to slide down easier. The ,last thing that you can do to make. It easier and more professional heat the corners of the vinyl with steamer or a heat gun to make the vinyl easier to st r etch over the corners . You did a great job but with that little bit of knowledge I just shared with you it could be flawless. No wrinkles and corners tight. Awesome job fora beginner. Love watching all of your videos.
Thanks for those tips. Now I know.
Makes sense
You should make some videos about the tricks of you trade and advice. Like Derek said it's a dying art/ trade.
My Dad had a upholstery shop in Western Kentucky for 50 yrs and he always used silicone spray or thin plastic on the corners to let them slide on. He also had a steamer but a feller could use a hairdryer to get the same results. Its amasing how it takes the wrinkles out once you get the material hot and stretch it. Great tip!!
@botto57 you doing any work now? Got a paying customer that hates shops
“Can’t be tight if it’s liquid” had me dying Derek. That needs to be a VGG t-shirt.
Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Who else could keep me glued to my phone or TV for over 2 hours? That's why the channel name is VICE GRIP GARAGE. Your genius in keeping us clamped to your projects is unparalleled. Thanks for all you share. Friend Grubstake
" I got the Cosby spray. ". 😂. I'm gonna be laughing at that one all weekend!
Peg leg from Zip ties and Bias Plies calls starting fluid Cosby Sauce all the time. Derek always mentions the Tanya Harding whenever he uses a hammer.
Duck tape makes No No. Sound...... Like Mmmmmmmm
Oh that truck is never gonna run right with GM foam in a Ford seat! 🙃
I swear you are opening a lot of eyes and changing the way people think about their content with these feature film length videos. Thanks as always.
At least he didn't put a GM motor in it.. Chevy's for Chevy's Ford's for Ford's..

I bet the effect is like praying to the wrong god in ol' Nethack/Moriah (for those who are old enough to remember the classic dungeon like ascii games).
Hearing my 5yr old say " oofta" warms my heart lol. He says it all the time and at the right time it's great....Tshirt idea... 🤔
Oofta may!!!
I caught myself saying “oofta” 637 times while I was skiing (and falling) last weekend. Took me a good bit to realize where I’d picked that up.

I've started saying "HELP ME UNDERSTAND.... THIS" when I'm frustrated at work now 😂😂
Derek you should make your own “build sheet” and put it behind the seat or something so when the new owner gets the rig it will have something personal from you and for the truck
This is a great idea I hope he actually does it
Derek - tip for you and others doing upholstery work. Drape some thin plastic (2-3 mil) over those foam cushions before sliding new seat covers on. There's a lot of friction between the foam cushions and the foam on the underside of the new covers. They'll slide on like butter. Also, lay those new covers out in the sun on a warm day to soften them up just before installation. Same with the new carpet kit. Lastly, use a heat gun VERY carefully to warm up any wrinkles after the covers are installed, and use the palm of your hand to "iron" them out. After owning a classic auto upholstery shop for 45+ years, I've learnt a few things, and still learning. I love your tips about using the carpet protectors as a replacement for the door panel moisture shields, and the heated-up punch for making bolt holes in carpet. Gonna do that next time.....
@@regisdixit Edd has his own channel for a couple if years now, in case you are curious. Its simply called Edd China.
Thank you for mentioning the upholstery guys. I have been doing custom cars and upholstery for 47 years. And doing custom interiors and upholstery is always overlooked and as you said, it’s getting harder and harder to find the guys like my age that are still doing that learn the hard way, not just buying and installing kits. We appreciate you mentioning the guys that never get any credit
I had a 92 Ford F-150 Blue step side and it had roll up windows. Around 2000 I picked up my neice and was taking her to town. She asked how to roll the windows down. I showed here then she said wow those are cool is that a new invention! I’ll never forget that.
Next up. Introduce her to the rotary phone and check the disbelief on her face as she struggles to comprehend it!
My husband and I were scrolling thru UA-cam and we stumbled upon your site. YOU ARE A RIOT😂. We laughed a lot and now we look forward to watching your videos. Also what was refreshing was to see your sons being so respectful. Loved it and love watching. God bless your family.
But notice how respectful he is of the boys. He never is negative to them, always positive. He lets them do as much as they can and interjects positive comments to help when he needs to. And he always says "good job !". People can learn how to get a rig up and runnin' from him but they can also learn how to raise kids with respect.
Just love it when Jessica comes out and helps a fella!
Who else would I give 2 hours plus of my time watching? Derek and Jessica, you'all are the best!
That Cosby comment was the discreetly funniest thing you ever said. Laughed for 10 mins. Love the show.
Every time I watch you , it brings back all the memories of when my dad was still alive it's almost the 1yr anniversary of when we lost him to cancer. He was a truck driver and once I got him watching vgg no matter how far he was we were always watching together and having a good laugh . Thank you for everything you do because atleast with my Dad he had something to help get his mind off of dying. You guys have no idea how much these videos mean to me.
Well at least he's in a better place
One of the things that makes your channel so enjoyable to watch, is that it doesn't take 6 mo's worth of episodes to complete what you have accomplished here. It's far more preferable to watch without leaving a guy hanging weeks at a time before seeing how it's done, and gratifying to see the end results. I'm not even a ford guy, although this turned out so nice that I'm going to enter right now by purchasing some merch. for a chance that just maybe... I could own this 'ol rig. Thanks Derek.
My 9 month pregnant wife says the rig should be two tone blue and white... Yeah, I know, it's a little bold, but a guy doesn't usually disagree with a pregnant lady. 😄 All jokes aside, we're 27, married since 21, living in Minnesota, this will be our first baby and I'm so excited to introduce them to working on rigs like I do.
I've been watching your videos since I got out of the Army a few years ago, used to be a mechanic in the Army, have an office job now, but still really enjoy wrenching on things. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride Derek and family!
I also think this era Ford look really good with that chocolate brown color.
Blue over white 2-tone would look pretty snazzy on this rig. Guy that's painting my truck has an 80s square body he painted up that way in his shop right now, it looks real sharp!
I’ve said it before but we need more people with your work ethic Derek! You’re a beast! Great work
Thanks man
Thank you for keeping a clean channel. You are one of the few things I can watch and not worry about what my toddler will start repeating.
hell start saying" fuel make it happener", "lightening whirler," digical guages, "oofta", "I'll be dipped"
Derek is my favorite human. He took over Tom cruise's spot. ! Derek for president! I think he would do a great job. Let's go!
Why would you wish that upon a guy? President is a miserable job.
@@Christopher_R to bring back the golden rule.
You never read about Cruise's "background"?
Derek, you know what you're building? A tribute truck to Denver Pyle, aka Jesse Duke. As soon as I saw this truck, I immediately thought of him cause this is what he drove on The Dukes of Hazzard. You need to leave this white and basic just like his truck was. I understand the upgrade you want to do on the gauges, but the dentside Ford trucks have such a unique gauge cluster, it'd be a shame to change them. But keep up the good work and build up that 300. Hopefully, I be able to get my 65 Thunderbird done soon so I can take it to one of the car shows you frequent. It's be cool to meet you and your family.
Derk, here from South Africa. We had a 79 shortbed with the 300 cid motor. The 3 on the tree were swopped out for a 4 speed toploader box. I went home from the hospital in 1963 in a Ford, a 1960 Zepher (British Ford). Still driving a Ford, a 2018 Ranger 2.2l turbodiesel singlecab with a sixspeed manual gearbox.
Thanks for the memories!!
Wish we had the 2 door Ranger here in the USA.
I love the banter you and Jessica toss about! You've got a great family-friendly channel here.
This video reminds me why I love this channel. It's HILARIOUS and really lets a guy learn a thing or two.
Got my vicegrip garage t -shirt in the mail yesterday , wearing it now fits good looks better than the photos online . The truck is looking awesome . Someone is gonna be a lucky person.
Thanks for the support!
That rattle can and your technique is excellent. The doors look great!
Another fun adventure, enjoy the cats, I have 2 myself and always around when doing projects.
Thank you for all of your videos Derek! I especially like the videos where you work with your family…your wife and your boys. I think it’s awesome that you’re spending time with them doing things you all love; and don’t let those who say they only want revivals get you down. There are lots and lots of us who enjoy all of your content including car interiors, tractor revivals in the snow, Sick Week, etc. Love it all, keep them coming! Blessings to you and your family!
You gotta call that truck uncle Jesse it’s just like the truck uncle Jesse drove in the Dukes of hazzard
Have Ford trucks going to be awesome with all that new interior awesome paint jobs when you get all the grill and all that back in it might as well be a show truck but it's going to look like it's brand new were the old style look upgrade that's a thumbs up for me from me to you Derek
You and your wife are very passionate in these restorations, excellent effort and as well as humor.!Your videos are the highlight of my Sunday evenings ! God bless you and your family.
The entertainment value in this one is great, thanks!
I really appreciate all that you and your family do for the channel and viewers! God bless all of you!
Derek and Jessica, bradly , bently, bailey i love all your videos , i think the truck should be given to charity, thats what i would do if i won it 😁all the way from bonnie scotland i love you guys , Derek you obviously love what you do , you're a lucky man jess and boys love you man ,by the way jess is a bonnie quine x
My first vehicle was a 76 F100 Custom that was an old highway maintenance truck. Orange and rusty. A fellers grandfather bought it for him at a state auction and taught me how to turn wrenches. It was real nice by the time we were done. Was three o the tree but I begged my grandfather to put in a hurst speed shifter with a T-handle on the floor. Loved it!
🎶SAVE BIG MONEY AT MENARDS🎵
I just started watching your channel about two weeks ago. Really like the revivals where you then drive hundreds of miles home. I ran out of those videos so I watched the original F100 videos from like two years ago. It's great timing that you're back on this truck again recently. This thing is a gem, glad you're putting money into it!
I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your channel. Very good old school wrenchin. Plus just good fun. Sorry you all were messed with and hope you get justice. Been turning wrenches for years and love showin the younger guys how to do it right, thanks and keep up the good work.
I just recently found this channel as I have several others. I must say that you sir are absolutely amazing at what you do and how you keep us entertained. Been working on vehicles all my life and have always wished that I could do it as my full time job. You are showing me how I can do just that. Thank you Derek!
Uncle Jesse white is probably a awesome idea.....love it!!!!!
Really enjoy the long format restoration. I play it while working at the computer. And besides i sometimes worry about Derek driving those death traps home. Happy for your well earned success.
Just got my hat and shirt. Only the second hat in my 58 years that actually fits my 5 gallon bucket head. Was just about to throw the shippong box away and was like why they put this bubble wrap in here and lo an behold I get a autographed fuel gauge. Made my day. Puttin my wagon in front of the horses but have already priced out a vintage air system cause hopefully that Wimbleton white F100 is comin to Jax Fl an it sure can get muggy down here. You guys thank us all the time but really it's the other way around. Youins are puttin on a great family show. Hope You know that.
I inherited the twin of this truck in 1988 from the family of my deceased buddy, Tom. He bought it new and drove it all over Colorado and California. I used it for a couple of years and fell in love with that 300 6cyl with 3 on the tree. I passed it on to a family member in need of reliable transportation....wish I had it back. It's probably still running.
First time I ever heard another fella say more gooderer!!!! Love the channel and actually bought myself a motor juice shirt so I can win this beauty!
I like the white. I have a 2000 F150 white I purchased in 2002, She is still a great truck. If I win it I'll use it to tow my boat to the lake. I live between St. Catharines and Port Colborne in the Niagara area, so I can fish Lake Ontario or Lake Erie and sometimes the Niagara River that are not too far away. I love watching your Videos, always fun to see you with your family doing what you do best.
I was going to ask if Canadians could enter. I like that you mentioned it at the end. Thanks again for the entertainment.
"Can't be tight if it's liquid." 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gotta remember that one.
Oh man. I love me some Vice Grip Garage. Even when I'm having a bad day, this just cheers me right up. Love the awkward pauses staring into the camera. Pure gold.
You asked for color choice, I say red with white upper part of the cab, very classic. I truly enjoy your videos and the TV show.
Nice! I'm glad you are going to replace the worn pedal pads---these seem to often be overlooked and it is such an inexpensive improvement.
Hope he puts them on the right way like how Ford did it....
Love your channel, the videos and that you include the wife and kiddos from time to time. My 63.5 Galaxie 500 fastback is currently going through the process of being repainted by teenagers at a local vocational school. Your channel is giving me tons of ideas for when I get her back but boy do I miss her! Keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll keep watching! Thank you from a loyal “fell-ette” fan. 😊
Man, I really love this truck and have truly loved watching you fix her up. Reminds me so much of the good old days. I can’t really get around well enough to do these kinds of things so much anymore, so having access to your videos is an amazing blessing to me. Thanks so very much!
I can’t believe how nice this truck is. Nice job man
Absolutely brilliant guys. Thank you very much!
The original white would look good, especially with a VGG pinstripe logo
Paint it two tone. Dark blue top and bottom, white in the middle. Buy the "race track" for the white insert.
Found your channel a few days ago and I'm really enjoying the content. I love your laid back attitude and how you take time to point out and explain little things. Thanks for sharing!
You go above and beyond explaining and doing things correctly, I'm absolutely impressed with your expertise on all types and models of vehicles you work on. Keep up the great work
You’re amazing people.
Great episode. Love the approach by doing it the way most guys can appreciate and duplicate. You and Jessica really did pull off a great interior restoration. I found your channel during Covid and it was a sanity saver for this old guy.
Ford KE electric blue. This is one of my favorite shows. Thank you
I love this truck. When I was a kid my dad had 2 77 f100. A blue and silver race truck and red and silver mud truck. Memories are great of those vehicles.
I keep coming back to this series as a model for my bumpside build I am documenting. Thanks!
We enjoy watching, the quips and word displacements and the time your boys and wife spend with you. Your boys will learn and value the time forever, I hope. Looking forward to watch the next '78 F100 video! My dad and I had a '78 F100 as well.
A feller's stepfather has a saying of "hit five birds with seven sticks" which could quite easily become a Derek-ism 😂
I grew up from diapers to graduation on a ranch and the farm truck was a 1970 red f100 300ci this build has gotten my heart. Love seeing this old truck go from great to amazing
something to be said for these cars that don't track you wherever you go. Kind of refreshing actually. You do beautiful work. Really enjoy watching you practice your craft, notwithstanding that I don't have the knowhow, nor the tools nor courage to try out this sort of project. Amazing.
Love how clean and simple the interior is Derek! The modern conveniences of new vehicles is nice, but there's something to be said for more simpler days....
A little tip for a lone wolf test light-
Sometimes when I have to test for power to a connector that's far from the switch or out of line of sight I use my lone Wolf test light. It's just a door buzzer from under the dash of a 70 Chevy connected to wires with small alligator clips on the ends. With that I can test for power and just listen for the buzzer. It's great for testing for power at a fuel pump connector. For something like that I just clipped the alligator clips to a couple of paper clips and how it has connector probes.
By the way I love what you're doing with the truck!
Derek gets amazing to watch you taking us on this journey making us feel like we’re part of the family. Thank you so much and for my color choice I would say the Wimbledon white but maybe you could do a blue pearl like you did on the drag truck, or at least the blue pinstripe to match the blue dash get some blue on the outside, have a good one. Thank you.
My dad would love this old truck he is die-hard, Ford, and has always said the 300 is one of the best motors Ford made
You get me jacked up every time to get going on my projects. The F100 especially, I inherited a 1963 F100 that my granddad bought new in 63. Long story short, it hasn't run since before 1995 when my dad passed. Two (?) years ago it would still rotate with a socket on the crank. Just got to get going on it. Looking forward to watching the rebuild on the 300 to get ideas on the 223 in mine. KEEP UP THE CLEAN HUMOR! I like it when I don't have to worry about what might come out of a you-tubers mouth. Thanks for what you're doing.
Love those trucks. Had a 79 F100, Custom, Straight 6, white on blue as my first vehicle. The bed was cottage cheese, but I loved that thing. Love what you’re doing to this one!!
My wife and I did almost exactly the same thing (except for digital dash) to "Obie", our 1978 Full-size 4WD Bronco about 20+ years ago! Ours sported a 350-M (350 "Modified") V8 engine. This episode really took me back... Thanks Derek for a great project!
The shop lions are always good for a chuckle or two 😂
I grew up helping my Dad in the garage...love seeing your boys in there with you, and Jessica of course! My first car was a '71 Ford Maverick, automatic, 302 V8 (blue of course) and for the most part, I did all my own motor cranking myself - I was always a tomboy, so, it seemed a natural thing to do. Sure wish the wing windows and hand-crank windows would return; also the ability for a fella or fell-ette to get greasy if they want to without all the computerization of everything. This truck would surely be super to own. Love your detailed demonstrations/explanations and Derek-isms! Uff-da!
The interior looks fabulous. Cleaned up. Updated but not too much! Great choices you made!
This was just what we were looking for. A general how-to for a refresh on the interior without having to rob the IRA or 529. It looks GREAT!
Just ordered a few shirts.... LOVE ALL your Products, the Dickies shirts are fantastic!! Hoping the Tee's are just as comfortable!! Wife loves the show just as much!! I hope you can keep the shows coming as long as possible!! Grew up in PA our old ford tractor had calcium filled tires, got the 3 bottom plow stuck on a root and almost flipped her over... wheely bout 3 ft off the ground glad nothing broke when the clutch was pressed ... Great way to grow up, the Manure shoveling ... I could have done without!! Nothing with wheels would fit in the barn with the way my dad built it!! He should have shoveled all the manure spreader loads!! I am sure you know how that goes!! Love the whole family being involved, One of a kind show!!
I love the both VGG and Roadworthy Rescues, but I love the freedom and depth you get from VGG. Keep up the great work!
The two prong wire going across the floor on the driver side is absolutely the seat belt buzzer
My Son and I love too turn wrenches when we can on our old trucks I definitely dig all you do and watching you got on and got one of your straw hats and have my fingers 🤞 too win! Appreciate ya 👍
This being the south, an area rich in racing culture and lore, there has GOTTA BE a Plymouth SuperBird out there in an old garage or sitting in an old barn or something like that. THAT would be BOTH a Revival and a Show Stopper at any car show she drove into.
The interior looks really nice Derek. Clean and simple.
Glove box trim came out amazing! Think I'm going to try it out on my gauge bezel. Thanks for showing that
Love it! Consider adding intermittent wipers and no glue door seals both from 90s Ford truck. 2 of the best things I’ve done on my 77
My grandpa had a 78 Ford in that blue color and my oh my is it a gorgeous color. Real head turner.
You are just absolutely amazing, nothing you can’t figure out! Just one step at a time, never any frustration.
I really liked the editing touch of the fast-forward of all the bench seat hog rings being done and then catching up with the narration.
Love your show,an your family. Stop being so hard on fords, they've out sold all other brands for ever. Plus if it wasn't for Henry you would still be driving a horse an buggy. Bless you
Little details make a big difference and worth the time.
Hey derek, love the videos lately especially the longer format ones. Another option for the seat holes is a soldering iron with a pencil pin, works amazing.
and the foam, steam is your best friend when doing seats. Steam will reconstutute the foam, help the material stretch and remove any wrinkles.
Truck is looking great guy. I got an 86’ f150 I am bringing back and this is all super helpful.
Cuz I too suffered from a broken drive retainer years ago, to keep it from falling off, clean the stub well and giver a single wrap of black or red electricians tape. Red goes well with your red driver equipment shown. It keeps it on and works for a long time. Works like a charm. Then re-wrap it when you have to. Best of luck.
Awesome work Derrick! If I had to use the 6 cylinder.... I'd do seats, guides, valves, bowl and port work, forged flattop pistons with 9.5 to 1 (pump gas friendly), roller cam, an intake and header, 3 inch single exhaust in the stock location, and Holley injection. Put a 5 speed in it and a 3.50 rear gear.
Derrick I have a Honda VTX1800 candy apply red, less than 14k miles, I’ve not ridden it since my knees and hips wrecked (>5yrs) been in garage, coated in dust, needs a resurrection and if you reach out to me, it would make a great show. Just needs new juices and a battery and cleaning. Never ever crashed, no dents or scratches. Is a cherry! Am 66 and just can’t hardly walk anymore. It’s literally a VGG gemstone
Just purchased a bunch of stuff to get entries in.....fingers crossed...Good Luck to all...
Best one yet, and I ain't kidding ya!!!!! Love it.
Can a fella get a Howdy ????????????????
Very well rounded channel but I love the old stuff stuff it's dying out... your kidding it alive!!! Thank you Derek!!!! Been here since you have less then 200 followers in your house garage.
You guys are truly an inspiration for those who what to wrench or there rigs
Seeing this brings back few memories, learned to drive in a F-250, 390cid wit a granny four speed! We pulled a four horse slant goose neck trailer. Good ole days!but now all I drive is chevolets!!!
