Having owned several mid 70s Torinos with 460 4Vs in them. You should know that the 400 2V and 460 4V were only offered with the towing package. They are not performance engines. I believe the massive 460 came with 216HP. But gobs of torque. Covers like that are not great for towing, they're mainly for storage. For a transport cover you want the fabric much tighter or it will destroy itself.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Junkyard Digs family, Kevin, Mook, Angus and the rest! Yours was the first UA-cam channel that showed me the entertainment value of this platform and have been a loyal subscriber since. Keep up the great content and only the best for the future.
I had a 73 Ford Grand Torino Sport. I bought it new. It wasn’t a great car, but the 351 Cleveland was solid. The vacuum system was a nightmare constant leaks from the HVAC system. It wasn’t sporty, but what it was, was a great cruiser. I loved the lines, but back then, it was what you got if you got a Ford. What you guys did was great entertainment for me. Thank you for not taking fixing it seriously and not injecting drama into getting it running. I appreciate your sense of teamwork and working together to resolve the many issues plaguing this old classic Ford. That 460 did a respectable smoke show…..
I like to imagine a future where the JD crew has expanded enough to have a side channel called "Junkyard Rigs", where they manufacture their own vehicles and machines. Fun stuff, love what you guys are doing, one day I'd want to have my own shop so I can do this sort of thing.
Good day gentlemen. I noticed that the carb your having trouble with has fiber floats. If any oil on them, they will soak up the oil. Try slightly digging a screwdriver in and you may see oil. Enjoy your channel.
Good theory! Not sunken floats on this one though, I can lower the fuel height way down. I think I have a gasket issue or something allowing fuel into the power valve circuit or something
Brought back some good memories, had a 71 Ranchero back in 1983, brought my baby girl home from the navy hospital and caught hell for not having a back seat. Enjoyed the humor, pliers and channel locks-I am a fan. Note a good fix on the windshield washer linkage bushings are leather shoe strings stuffed in place and soaked with super glue around the edges.
Dad was a mechanic for 50 years. I inherited his tools. I have all his old drum break removal and installation tools! Never thought I would need them, I just kept them for old times sake!
My granddad was a shop foreman in a Ford dealership. I was leaving an unfinished driveway brake job to fetch a fancy tool when he happened by. He jumped out, in his dress clothes, and with his car idling rebuilt my front drum brakes with a pair of dull diagonal cutters, while chewing my ass for attempting to waste money and time on that tool. Like 12 minutes later he was gone and I was driving.
These guys always make me happy, many times ive been sick,or having a migraine, ans ill put on one of they're videos and ill instantly be happier, and these are educational as hell.
Guy I surf with in New Hampshire barnscored one out of Maine. Creamy tan with the faux wood sides, original fiberglass bed cover, the thing is BEAUTIFUL, never thought I'd see one so clean here in rust world!!!
The way the burn out smoke billowed off the topper was perfect. Also enjoyed the residual tire smoke in the topper the following scene.🎬 keep up the good work.
Friend of mine back in the 80s or 90s had a Ranchero. I always told him it was the ugliest El Camino I’ve ever seen. Still feel that way, and I’ve always been a ford fan.
I love your 'shop'! I so wish I could have had one like it as well as all your great tools. I was born in 1955 and remember my Dad (who was a tool maker at GM's Luton factory - Vauxhall Motors) 'making do and mending'; he didn't even have a vice or a trolley jack. Mind you, tools were much more expensive (in real terms) back then. He only got a socket set when I bought him one in 1979 - he died in 1982. My Mum once said :- "I wish I'd let your dad have decent tools....." Life is not a rehearsal! Good tools pay for themselves a thousand times over!!!! XXX
I have a 1960 Falcon Ranchero 289 small block automatic my grandfather gave me for graduation in 2003. She's been in the garage in pieces for 9 years. This makes me want to dig into her and get her finished. Have another 289 and a 4 speed waiting for her.
Loud Diesels love jackasses, and there are a lot of them (both). So ya, the odds are against those of us doing anything ELSE but driving jackass diesels.
The cool thing about this one is that someone went to the dealership to buy a car-truck, then said, could i get this as a wagon? Then put the hardtop on to make this the ultimate car-truck-wagon
Loved this episode. Ranchero looks just like one I tried to buy in 1992 from the Edwards AFB CA Body / Maintenance Storage Yard. I had my 74 Merc Cougar XR7 in there doing some work on it when the base decided to close up the shop permanently 😢. All the "stored cars" owned by the guys had to be moved. I had my eye on the Ranchero but the guy wouldn’t sell. Anyhow i had the 400 pulled out on a stand upside down with the main caps off (it tossed the harmonic ballancer.) Guys come in Wednesday at 1pm said everything had to be out by Friday at 5 PM. The autoshop was being closed. My Cougar (just frame horns on the sandblast area.) Engine on the stand, inner fenders & front frame sandblasted to bare metal. Engine & Trans in early diagnostic state torn apart (had been rebuilt 10k ago,) but bad harmonic ballancer roached the main bearings 😢. 5PM on friday (rattle can paint job on inned fenders & frame horns.) NEW polygraifite bushings balljoints, front suspension rebuilt engine just back together but not fixed 😡 hood fenders on and drove it out of the shop. 😮 worked alone except for the ole shop guy helpped me stick the eng/trans back in & drop hood & fenders core support on.. just the things that needed 2 people rest i had to do.😢
Not trolling Kevin, but I’m always amazed when you do drum brakes you don’t have a set if break tools. I’ve watched you do hundreds and surprised Bendpac, Napa, or Bendex doesn’t sponsor you a set. Love the channel!
Happy Thanksgiving, brothers! Thanks so much for the heads up on the Schumacher battery charger; I'm so tired of the computerized crap chargers I've bought and trashed since my "old reliable" (1960's/70's Sears charger) died 20 yrs ago! The Ranchero is a pos for sure, but content IS content! Really fun video for sure! A+++++
Happy birthday, Angus! Hope you had a good one because my November birthday was awesome!!! Don't tell Kevin, but you make laugh much more than him. Love all you guys! Have a great holiday!!!
I have had a bunch of Holley carbs do that. The center body of the carb is warped. Take off the metering plate and block check it with a straight edge then where it is off at file down the high spots
The other thing that'll do that on a 4160 is plugged bowl vents. Mud daubers love to make nests in them- which sometimes don't clear even in the ultrasonic bath.
The first time I saw a Ranchero I thought "So.... Ford took a station wagon and replaced the back seats with a truck bed" Now I am thinking "So someone took a truck bed and turned it into a station wagon"
I was having a lot of carburetor issues on my 72 Ranchero until I went with a brand new Edelbrock right out of the box. Things ran great for about two years now. Oh yeah, put that on top of the aluminum 4 barrel manifold
I clean carbs for a living and I’ve found a cup of simple green in the ultrasonic is the best bang per tank. It’s safe on coatings and does great. If you want to be real wild get the lemon scent. Great video!
I’ve had a holly dump fuel like your 4160 did after rebuilding it. It happened when I used the wrong gasket between the body and the metering block. The kits usually come with several different gaskets, and it’s easy to grab the wrong one. If you still have the old one you can match it up with the correct one by holding them together and checking that the holes match. If you don’t have the old gasket you can do the same comparison using a new gasket and the metering block. The other time I had that happen was when I didn’t get the power valve gasket centered on the power valve, or it shifted off center when I screwed it jn. That opened a direct passage between the float bowl and the power valve passages allowing gas to dump straight through. A primary purpose of EGR was to reduce pinging at part throttle cruise. In those conditions the manifold vacuum is high leading to advanced timing and the mixture is leaner. Introduction of inert exhaust gas by the EGR valve cools the resultant burn, eliminating any pinging. Gotta love the malaise era big blocks - you get the same bad gas mileage and half of the power as before. Still, you can put on some aluminum heads, a cam, an intake, and some headers and it’ll wake right back up. That could be a nice truck for someone with a little money put into it.
I always skip when youtubers talk about products they are sponsored by because that's not where I'm interested. Except here at junkyard digs for you are the only ones who know how to make a boring sponsorship fun
Yeah... true that... and Angus had a near perfect 'Danny Thomas' spit-take but he held the drink clinching his jaw shut and lips sealed 'mostly' best I could tell... but it was a great almost spit-take scene there during the AG-1 commercial.
I have never herd of a ranchero until junkyard digs did his first video of it but I’ve actually kinda falling in love with them there pretty cool and unique in my opinion
the we have 3rd again! was me yesterday. I parked my minivan months ago cause it started gear hunting and acting up. tried to get rid of it with a mechanic special price tag. no one bought it, so I decided to dump some anti slip in it and a ton of cleaners, then took it out for an entire day of walmart spark deliveries and roadrage driving. after giving it the beans durning road rage moments and overall being very mean to that transmission, it stopped gear hunting and hard shifting. sooo im gonna assume it cleared an abstruction cause it behaved the last half the day. if it dies in a few days, im not gonna even be upset about it, im just gonna steal the seats out of it and install them in my ranger cause that 60/40 bench seat is the devil.
If it's sucking fuel out of the venturies with the throttle blades at idle its probably a warped carb base sucking air between it and the main carb body
I've got an early 70s Ford. Apparently, the thing to do is get a manual choke carb from 69. I replaced my EGR spacer with a spacer with a barb for PCV as the 69 carb I got did not have that provision (it was supposed to be in that spacer which got replaced by EGR, and those carbs got it at the bottom of their casting.) The Ford automatic choke system leaves something to be desired. So does a manual choke, but at least you can control that.
You guys are awesome, my 5 yr old and I watch all the videos lol he loves watching the videos. He asked when we can get a car to work on haha he’s a little mechanic on his power wheels cars. Keep up the great work guys !!!

Where were you guys in the late 60's when my dad had a 49 Plymouth, 50 Plymouth, and a 63 Fairlane sitting around that needed next to nothing to make them run again? I have learned enough from your channel to have fixed every one of them! I was 16 and had no tools or mechanical knowledge. Love your videos!
I bought a 1979 ranchero in about 1985 for 500. It was a country squire edition and had lost all the chrome and had a blown 350m in it. Put in 400 Cleveland got chrome from a junk yard. Was almost indestructible even as only 2wd it was a beast in the snow and blew through western Nebraska snowdrifts across the country roads. Funniest thing about the car was the dmv mistyped the title so mine car was actually a Rancharoso.

No my 1963 Plymouth Fury Commando 361 was the best car, and I still have her.
@mexicanspec best car to you. Not to me...
@@curtism-w6b Right, back at ya.
Did anyone else notice when the boat left the house it had a cover but when it arrived at the shop it didn't? Haha! I LOVE these videos! I look forward each week to a new one! Thank you.... 😁
I'm waiting for the explanation of where it went. Lol
Oh thank god you busted out the real power washer. I almost shit myself every time you guys bust out that old electric thing hahaha
They used to sell replacement aftermarket float kits for these carbs plastic ones and brass pot metal ones
Ooh a Classic Rancher Revival! Bring that topper to Dalton as a joke haha!
BTW, HAPPY THANKSGIVING, KEVIN,MOOK ,ANGUS, AND EZRA!😊
Here in the UK, the Ranchero is a very rare sight. This particular generation is one of my favourites. I do love a nice Ranchero.
iv been watching this channel for 4 years and it keeps getting better
Agreed!
I do really want Kevin to do something with that Ford wagon. Still my favorite car on the channel.
That levrack system is awesome, flair had his barn taken out by a tornado back in April and both of his levrack systems survived
The way the burn out smoke billowed off the topper was perfect. Also enjoyed the residual tire smoke in the topper the following scene.🎬 keep up the good work.
@56:39 i know you guys dislike them, but damn it looks good pulling out of the shop!
I don't hate the looks of them, I just hate the looks of this one!😂
@@JunkyardDigs is there any reason you can't just rip the topper off it? That alone would improve the looks by 500%.
I love it when Kevin breaks traffic laws. Makes me feel better about myself when I do it
Friend of mine back in the 80s or 90s had a Ranchero.
XXX
Happy belated birthday Angus! Awesome video guys!
I have a 1960 Falcon Ranchero 289 small block automatic my grandfather gave me for graduation in 2003. She's been in the garage in pieces for 9 years. This makes me want to dig into her and get her finished. Have another 289 and a 4 speed waiting for her.
Theres always a jackass in a loud diesel any time I try to do anything
Loud Diesels love jackasses, and there are a lot of them (both). So ya, the odds are against those of us doing anything ELSE but driving jackass diesels.
A loud diesel is advantageous in a hard working environment
@RubinsRacing350 ladies and gentlemen we have found the jackass!
I see you two like to live dangerously with the Ranchero making it to the shop without a Junkyard Digs sticker. Respect.
Boy did this one bring back memories! I had a 72 Ranchero with the same motor...got about 4 blocks per gallon fuel economy...LOL
it took me a bit to acustom myself to Angus but now i enjoy the content even more when he does what he does :) i like the duo dynamic.
Jyd is the best automotive channel ever !!!!!
The cool thing about this one is that someone went to the dealership to buy a car-truck, then said, could i get this as a wagon? Then put the hardtop on to make this the ultimate car-truck-wagon
57:57 *Kevin you got the wrong vehicle 😂 the one from Toy story was a Toyota pickup but I kind of see it though!!* 😂
He said from an alternate dimension. Aka if it wasn't a Toyota lol
Anyhow i had the 400 pulled out on a stand upside down with the main caps off (it tossed the harmonic ballancer.)
Guys come in Wednesday at 1pm said everything had to be out by Friday at 5 PM. 😮 worked alone except for the ole shop guy helpped me stick the eng/trans back in & drop hood & fenders core support on.. just the things that needed 2 people rest i had to do.😢
Came home from school, saw this posted. Made my day yall keep up the great content
Not trolling Kevin, but I’m always amazed when you do drum brakes you don’t have a set if break tools. I’ve watched you do hundreds and surprised Bendpac, Napa, or Bendex doesn’t sponsor you a set. Love the channel!
Perfect listen for the thanksgiving drive tonight
Happy Thanksgiving, brothers! Thanks so much for the heads up on the Schumacher battery charger; I'm so tired of the computerized crap chargers I've bought and trashed since my "old reliable" (1960's/70's Sears charger) died 20 yrs ago! The Ranchero is a pos for sure, but content IS content! Really fun video for sure! A+++++
Good gift Idea to suggest to the grandkids! 😉
Haha 27! I got out of the Navy when you were 8. Happy birthday by the way.
World's finest Navy!
I will say Angus’ beard game is strong. Have you ever thought about exporting some of your “Exotic Iowa” cars? Ooh that’s a T-shirt logo for sure!
good job as usual. Not surprised that the Edelbrock worked on the Ford engine. I have always had good fortune with that combo.
Thanks again for the video Kevin ❤
Happy birthday, Angus! Hope you had a good one because my November birthday was awesome!!! Don't tell Kevin, but you make laugh much more than him. Love all you guys! Have a great holiday!!!
I have had a bunch of Holley carbs do that. The center body of the carb is warped. Take off the metering plate and block check it with a straight edge then where it is off at file down the high spots
I wondered!! Figured it had to be a mechanical issue like that
Good to know. Ill have to check mine!
The other thing that'll do that on a 4160 is plugged bowl vents. Mud daubers love to make nests in them- which sometimes don't clear even in the ultrasonic bath.
Kevin you and Mook have the best shows I have enjoyed everyone so far
"Pliers Revival!"
1 hour runtime
Thanks for the video. Man you guys really made it known you don't like Rancheros. But Rancheros are so cool and so unique.
Yasssss once again another banger by Kevin and everyone
YAY!!! ANOTHER LONG VIDEO THIS TIME!!!
I clean carbs for a living and I’ve found a cup of simple green in the ultrasonic is the best bang per tank. It’s safe on coatings and does great. If you want to be real wild get the lemon scent. Great video!
Angus grew up with Mook, right? 😂you thought you could scare him
No, they're from entirely different states😅
Different mental states
The Bananchero looks good!
Happy thanksgiving from over the pond, and thank you for the latest (and previous) episodes.
Love y’all’s merch so much I literally ran to the website to grab this shirt as soon as I saw it…😂 love the new logo❤
Alright. I'll buy the AG1 now. That was the best ad ever.
I actually dig this old ranchero, it would make a fun and very different project , just love it.
And also. A so really happy 27th birthday to you.
You guys and Dalton are probably the most wholesome automotive guys on UA-cam!
Angus Rules!
You guys are awesome, my 5 yr old and I watch all the videos lol he loves watching the videos. He asked when we can get a car to work on haha he’s a little mechanic on his power wheels cars. Keep up the great work guys !!!
I still maintain that the coasters (how tf do you spell cozzies?, cozy'es? ) should say "having a beer about it".
“Coozies” is how I always saw it
stubby holder
They do say that actually! We switched em up
Those Mufflers on that ranchero are super nice.
There Allied Manufacturing Blue Streak Mufflers from Benicia Ca.
Super rare mufflers and you only ususally find them up here. Had a set on my 67 Falcon, and my 84 Nissan, one of the most unique sounding mufflers you'll ever find and their like gold.
“Pliers can fix that” should be a shirt
thank you for the thanks giving show. i give thanks for this. and the turkey sand witch i'm going to have later.
I think Kevin and Angus was a little closer to the shop than 9 hours. The people at ford deserve to be put in prison for painting that car that color
Originally it was a classic '80s brown, someone else did this unfortunately!
And yeah maaybbeee a little closer😂
@JunkyardDigs who ever did it needs a lengthy prison sentence that is the worst color on the planet
8 hours, 59 minutes, and 45 seconds closer
@@HackeryXI dont know if I want to subject most prisoners to that kind of psychopath
No such thing as an ugly Ranchero IMO
FACTS
Actually all rancheros are ugly. El Caminos are nice.
That roof is brutal
Two thumbs up on Ford ranchero in the 70s body .

Angus and Ezrha, the dynamic duo!😃
Behold the bananchero 26:05
You beat me to it. “Who would ever want to own one of these” Me, really badly.
As someone approaching 30, that AG1 ad felt targeted. I have ordered a trial kit.
