Classic Game Room reviews SUPER MONKEY BALL 3D for Nintendo 3DS from Sega. This 3D version of Super Monkey Ball on Nintendo 3DS has depth of field and shows some cool 3D effects on the bananas flying around the screen with a rotating playing field in space. The effect is neat but grating on the eyes after a while, thankfully Super Monkey Ball 3D can be played in 2D with one D to spare. Super Monkey Ball 3D for 3DS also has several mini games called Monkey Race and Monkey Fight which are clones of Super Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Brawl respectively. Not terribly original but fun and addicting additions to the Super Monkey Ball gameplay. Super Monkey Ball 3D lacks much of the challenge of earlier games in the series but packs creative visuals and hours of gameplay. This CGR review of Super Monkey Ball 3D has gameplay from Super Monkey Ball 3D on Nintendo 3DS.
@mjdoomreviews Um, no, it comes out in 2012. The president of Sony just recently said it MIGHT come out in 1 country in 2011, but everywhere else 2012. I'm willing to bet that 1 country is Japan.
Have fun waiting a year or two, though. I'm enjoying the present and it's fucking fabulous.

@shadowtsunami Of course, but some people get sick reading the newspaper. Some people just get sick easily, it's no one's fault. I wear prescription glasses, I don't blame Nintendo for that. It's been that way forever.
Some people get sick (and even have seizures) playing normal video games in 2D. But that's their concern, not yours or mine.

The ball balancing part is like Kororinpa on the Wii.
Guarantee that you played the game with the 3D slider set to max. Turn the 3d down as low as you can, and the game looks pretty phenomenal with a nice depth of field. That 3d slider on the side is meant to adjust for your eyes, leaving it max all the time is counter productive and will likely make you look at games crosswise because the image is too far apart.

@captaincharlieIII the 3ds has a transparent screen above the gameing screen that makes it 3d...... on computers and stuff the 3ds effect doesnt work... only on the 3ds can you see it becuase of the speicel screen

@batmanofni That's why it's so great. It makes no sense at all. It's like "GAME OVER YEEEEEEEAAAAAHHH!!!!". I mean that's one of the most amazing things I've heard in a video game. And I heard a lot.
@TheUnbiasedGamer oh bummer. i dont even know if my GS or BB have em out, I just heard some do. Im definitely not getting a 3ds until at least the next version but id still like to see one. NGP however... we'll see
@FuzzyScotsman I don't like 3D in movies, but in video games it's a lot better, to quote a lot of people the 3DS's 3D effect is better than the cinema. I'm sure it's just as good on the PS3 but I don't really feel the need to invest into two things that will inevitably cause me headaches and I seem to get them often enough without playing games in 3D.

@ladawg81 The DS won't be able to handle "hardcore" games as well but Mario, Zelda, etc can still appeal to people in the "hardcore" age range. And it does have games like "Brain Training" that appeal to people in the older demographic (i.e. adults).

@BigNastyB16 There are no plans jet to make one, that was what they said in a interview back in 2009, but maybe they will make it. But i hope that i will not be on the 3DS but on wii, ps3 or Xbox or something. :P

for me, its comfortable and looks amazing with the slider at half way. its only when i put the slider past half way on this game that my brain says no

There won't be a truxton remake becouse the rights are owned by Toaplan which now is defuct since 1994 but Cave the makers of DonPachi is a company from Toaplan.
@harmfulifconsumed I physically own a 3DS as well and agree it IS awesome, but personally cannot wait to get my hands on an NGP. Not for the graphical strength, but for the ability to play games such as MGS4 and Killzone 3 on the go, which is revolutionary. I do love the 3DS as welll, but personally think the NGP will most likely be a much better system, especially for the Core Processors.
But then again i don't have an NGP yet, so can't tell which is best yet, but am still in anticipation.

this game was my childhood. i was almost 5 when it came out. i really need to play this again, although my 3ds broke. i cant believe i’m almost 14 tho.

@IDMWEIGHTSIDM the whole point of the system isn't just 3D that's just the gimmick used to capture your attention you can easily find a DS2 hidden in there with the 3d off and it's still a great system
on mulltiplayer mode can u play with a regular ds or does it have to be 3ds

@IDMWEIGHTSIDM Reviewers are all adults. Try asking kids what they think of the 3D thing. That said, just ignore the gimmick and you'll see a very capable and worthy successor of the DS name.

I was thinking of getting this game, but it poses no rage quits, frustration till the end, and extremely high replay value. as far as I see. Game creators should stop focusing on the new features and mess around with what matters most of all. The Game play.

To people complaining about the library of games, what do you expect? It's always like this when consoles launch, where only a few games are worth it. Get over it and be patient. God, the same shit happened with the 3DS and Xbox 360 as well.
@gosensgo6 only when you watch it in english, the japanese dialogue is way better, and it isn't censored in the japanese version either, you must watch the crappy Disney XD edits which have ruined the western versions of naruto (and also One Piece which actually makes sense in the japanese Original)
@mechanoid2k to be fair dude most of my mate who have bought a 3DS did so to enjoy the games. one of them is slightly blind in one eye but he does not give a shit about the 3D.

Well, I think an important point is that most of the popular games for the PSP are for older people because they are more violent, so that if you want to obey the rules you don't really have a chance to play the really good games on the PSP. But I'm twenty and I have a PS3 and a DS and a 3DS and I don't think that any game on the PS3 is more fun than any Pokemon game on the DS for example.

I can't believe that to this day the only Super Monkey Ball game I've played is the original on Gamecube. I LOVED it, and for some reason never got any of the others. Now that I have a 3DS, this is definitely going to be one of my next games to buy.
