Super Mario 3D Land review. Classic Game Room reviews SUPER MARIO 3D LAND for Nintendo 3DS from Nintendo. Super Mario 3D Land explodes with awesome Mario style gameplay and creative levels that use the 3DS 3D effect to simulate immense depth and motion. This CGR Super Mario 3D Land video review shows Super Mario 3D Land gameplay recorded from Nintendo 3DS in HD (in 2D). While this videogame can certainly be played in 2D, Super Mario 3D Land is meant to be enjoyed in 3D so that you can land Mario on top of things and drop down from hundreds of feet onto enemies.
I forgot how freaking excellent the sound design was in this game. everything just pops and is really satisfying
This and 3D World are 2 of the greatest 3D Mario games.

Super mario 3d land was my furst and favorite 3ds game ! Got my 3ds back in 2013 and even in 2015 i keep replaying 3d land its so colorfull and smooth and just great !

This looks so awesome. It's like they're trying to return to what they had in the 2D Mario games mixed with Super Mario 64.

I honestly think that 64 has aged horribly. I would much rather play this, Galaxy, Galaxy 2, and 3D World.

i really like mario 64 but this game is amazing as well, so is not surprise if you preffer this one.
This game is the best mario game i have yet to play, the classic 2D mario gameplay (especially SMB 1 and 3 and a hint of the GBA game SML) mixed with SMB64 and SM Galaxy! This game is a MASTERPIECE.
Not had a 3DS before but this Christmas I bought a New *New* 3DS XL for my daughter. This game is indeed the best for it in our collection so far and I was transported back in time to my immersive Gameboy days!

For this game it doesn't really matter. The new games take advantage of the new controls but that's it. The other improvements are nifty, but not much more than that.

The most fun I've had with a Mario platformer since Super Mario 64!
I hope they add some DLC with things in the way of some classic Super Mario music and maybe an assortment of levels from some classic Mario games with 3D Land's gfx.

Also you can already play classic Mario Bros. on the 3DS as long as you are a Nintendo Ambassador since its included in the free Super Mario World 2 GBA! While not 3D, it does have nice gfx enhancements.

i strongly agree about the level design, my favorite level is the one where there are the blue, yellow, and pink blocks that disappear and reappear to the beat of the background music

I ADORE this game. When I was in high school I played it until I got SICK of it, fully completed it. And I watched this review back in the day, too. I miss CGR.
i always check your reviews before buying anything, and everytime i get my money+s worth, thank you. i was hesitating wheter i should buy a nintendo ds or a psp. u made it clear to go for a ds and thats a desision i havent regret it one. same goes for the 3ds/vita.

this is exactly what i always wanted to see in a mario game ever since i first played super mario 64
playing this game now and its awesome, probably my fave 3d mario yet. unlike the other 3d games in the series this one stays true to its heritage. its a great mix of old and new.
Very glad to see someone agree. I'm literally wearing Wii boxers right now and have gamed primarily on Nintendo game systems before, but I'm NOT going to continue to be a generation behind. Mike Capps of Epic Games has confirmed that the Wii U can't handle Unreal Engine 4 and the Tekken producer has said that the Wii U processor is weaker than the PS3 or 360s' processors. Just like the Wii, it's a generation behind. This time they don't get my dollar vote. They need to learn humility first.
my question is , this game isint like the mario kart 7 , it ends and u can still play it but in online mode , i know this game dosnt have online gaming but , does this game has long story mode , or is it short ?

I have a 2ds. Is th egame enjoyable in 2d or frustrating and confusing? I see so much flying around in 3d space in this review that I am concerned.
Its enjoyable, might have trouble with the 3d puzzels but those are rare. Its fun in 2d, best handheld game ever in 3d.
It is playable in 2d but i personally enjoy it the best in 3d (especially when the second option for it as it pops out more for me).

I am a COD fan as well. There is a time for a fast paced FPS game and then there is a time to play a game with a slower pace. Something calming right before you go to bed. Damn i need to get a 3DS and this game. Re-releasing the old N64 games on the 3DS not too bad of an idea. This game reminds me of Super Mario 64.
@cuicnoh2 You see that pyramid in the background? It's actually an illusion using tricky perspective; with 3D enabled, you can tell that the two middle blocks are really in front of the other blocks, closer to the camera. Stepping on that eye panel makes the camera rotate and reveals the illusion.

I love this game, it's probably my favorite Mario game of all time. It's just ridiculous how many free men they give you. I started the game over and I'm on world 6, I haven't gone through a single level more than once (unless I died and had to) and haven't been trying to collect extra lives or anything like that and I have like 60 lives. On my old game I had around 400.
The worlds weren't really themed either, and the special levels use a lot of the same maps.
Awesome gameplay though!

@yedi15 His voice is brilliant. It's just incredibly mellow, grabbing your attention - second to none in my opinion. He isn't a nerd, and he always has nice comments to make. He's just lots of fun to watch and listen to. It's not passive either, you genuinely put all your attention into his video.

@TranceCore3 There's actually some interesting psychological and technological reasons why a lot of people think that. The old cartridge games could only play one chord at a time to make their music, which sticks in your brain much easier than 'complete' music. That doesn't mean the new music is bad, but it doesn't cement in your brain like the old school music.

What and amazing game. It reminds me of the good all black and white gameboy titles such as mario land 2. These are my favourite Mario games and now it comes with cosplays!
This and Mario Kart 7 have redeemed the 3DS for me in many ways. The other games are fine, but these two are awesome! I agree that should have had one of these as a launch title.

@wildsmiley Absolutely not. The 3DS isn't just a newer version of a DS with 3D capacities, it's actually the next console in line. 3DS games can't be played on any DS system for the same reason that Wii games can't be played on GameCube consoles. If Mario 3 is your favorite though, you'll love this one; it has so many cues to previous games, ESPECIALLY Mario 3!
ive seen a lot of reviews on this game and remain to be convinced but he makes me want to buy it
Awesome how when you actually hit Toad with a fireball in a Mushroom House he actually reacts. I've been waiting for that chance since SMB3, sadly there are no green fireballs this time around though :(

There is a SMB Game on 3DS, it was originally for embassadors but it is now available to everyone.

3D Mario is a separate series.
There was always a run button in Classic, 2D Mario, not in 3D.
This is the first 3D Mario with a run button.
@basketballjocks I've seen some footage of 3DS games that look like even the Wii would be hard pressed to pull off. Perhaps, the 3DS is more like the PS2?

@WebVManReturns Finding the Star Coins is the only real challenge the game offers. Simply getting through the levels is cake.

first 8 worlds are very very easy but the 2nd part of the game gets very challenging at times. absolutely great game, pure nintendo quality!

yes its a remake, but if you look at where the characters are, Yoshi is on top of the castle at the beginning of the game(this is where he is when you beat the original game with 120 stars, also we know that Bowser likes to make Mario go through the same levels again, but harder, just in this case its more stars. If you don't see it as that, than Super Mario Sunshine is the sequel(it supposed to take place after the events of SM64
So if I had to choose between this and New Super Mario Bros 2, which one should I get? o.o
Y'know, Mark, now that you mention a 3D Mario Bros, a Mario Clash remake could be a pretty fun 3DS downloadable title.
imo super mario 3d land is THE best mario game ever made it has EVERYTHING you want from a mario game (2d style and 3d style levels, VERY original levels, tons of content and challenging towards the special worlds and sooooo much more)

@HowToVidsOfficial It simply changes the intensity of the 3D effect based on if you want to play it with the slider set down low or up high.

The price varies from location and the paticular worth of that item. Nintendo games even the ds ones are worth more than twenty dollars. Mostly because first party nintendo games have a good brand. 3DS games being more than twenty bucks probably varies on it's release date which is still fairly new so nothing will seriously depreciate for a the rest of this year.
This was a launch game so it's possible he got it on sale at the time of post (reward members are offered sales frequently).
Funny that Mario's signature plant is mushrooms, because Mario is the kind of game you play when you're on 'shrooms. :D
@VegaC18 They ought to. Inside of the first minute of actually switching on the game, the fact that the Tanooki Suit comes from a magical tree is established. No animals are harmed...for that power up. Just tons of walking shrooms, turtles...and whatever else the game has for foes. PETA don't care about them, though. :P
Actually, I do believe that may be the very first time that a Mario game has even tried to explain ANY power up. (Perhaps, outside of Yoshi.)

plus it was not for sitting down for hours and playing but playing whenever you have time like in the car or something. it is a portable game.

For me every mario game (excluding all the sports and party ones) since Mario 64 has been impossible to put down. They really are that fun.
