i met my best friend in the whole world on LittleBigPlanet in 2009. we both got the game as birthday presents and happened into each other's lobby. and through the text chat in-game we begun a friendship that has been going strong for almost 2 decades now. i love LittleBigPlanet and i have countless memories with my best friend, and other friends, playing the game and creating levels. very sad to see it go, it meant a lot to me and to other people. appreciated this video, big fan of MGS and LBP so this was a fun ride down memory lane.
Same here! We met via the "Dive In" feature. We both used that keyboard attachment for the controller. Love LBP to death. Dreams didn't do it for me unfortunately. The world could use another LBP game.
I originally listed a lot more, but I couldn’t find a way to mention every single crossover without slowing the pace of the video to a halt. Also, thank you guys at Refresh! I hope to properly check it out in the near future
Back when I was much younger, a friend of mine who also had a PS3, one day brought over his copy of LittleBigPlanet 1, which was the game of the year edition, and after playing it for the first time, I absolutely loved the game. He actually let me keep it, because... idk. And ever since then I've been following the series, buying the ones I can, (I didn't have either of the handhelds so I don't have Vita, and only recently got PSP) so as you can see, this series means a lot to me, and that's only the first part of my story right here. See, the reason I mentioned what version my friend gave me, is because thanks to it being the goty edition, it included the Metal Gear DLC packs on the disc, (Both levels and costumes) and those were always some of my favorite things back then. And that made me want to keep an eye on the Metal Gear series, since I wanted to see what the actual games were like; other cameo appearances like Raiden in Playstation All-Stars (Yes, I like that game) definitely kept me going, and now more recently, I own the Legacy Collection versions of the HD Collection and 4, MGS1 on PS1, and both 5 games; Even if I haven't had the time to play them, I'm definitely excited for when I do, and I kinda have LittleBigPlanet to thank for that. As I'm sure you can guess, the server issues and now delist of LBP has disappointed me, and to see 3 meet that fate just makes it even worse; Thank goodness for fan preservation. So to put it in short, I'm gonna go look at what DLC is on the PS4 store is free and see what I like there besides the MGSV stuff now.
Yeah, it was rough seeing LBP die back in February. Grew up on this series. Will never be the same without it. LBP and MGS4 were my favorite games on my PS3 as a kid. Also, on the note of the MH crossover, I am more than willing to assist you if you're up for Peace Walker on PS3 to do the hunts. I do not however have access to Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.
I actually played the metal gear X monster hunter stuff recently using an emulator of peace walker, they're all super fun levels and it's a good Easter egg to activate with the steps being simple.
"Listen to all of Chico's tapes." "Then, load up a _very specific_ SideOP" "Then, *_turn around and go away from your objective."_* "Then, notice a cat on the edge of the pier in the area you have no reason to visit (and usually, in other OPs in this location, _can't_ visit.)" Yes. Very simple.
LBP1 is on PS3 store for $20. It was delisted but not anymore but it will also be delisted again along with LP3 with every remaining DLC that hasn't been delisted at the end of October.
I have so much nostalgia and happiness from little big planet 2 and 3, getting off school on a Friday and asking to spend the night at my friend up the street from me and we would play all day and eventually I would go home on Saturday. Seeing it go makes me so sad, I hope eventually someone will make something as original as LBP for the generations to come.
I can't believe I am watching a video about Metal Gear x Little Big Planet at just the point I finally want to truly dive in to both series and the get hit with Persona music at the end lmao. Actually thank you so much for making this because while I own LBP 1 and 2, I only beat 3 and never looked into either's DLC because I thought it was only costume packs. Knowing that you can find levels and that they might be delisted soon will definitely push me to look into it. Also just got a vita and psp (partly for persona because those physical prices are scary) so now I can check all LBP platforms!!!
I spent so much time in little big planet, and it only got better as I grew an appreciation for game development and what it took to make these levels and used it as a tool 🔧 🙌 to teach people to make their own levels I love making mechs, story/world building but most of all costume creation and decorating and making anything a tool to bring anything to life
It can't be overstated how important the MGS DLC was to Little Big Planet -- the paintenator was the only way to add a real weapon to your LBP levels, and the only way for many kids with overprotective parents (like me) to play shooters on PS3
it makes me feel so uneasy knowing all the things I grew up with are coming to an end, even though I gave up playing when LBP3 came out. I'll never forget the endless memories made on LBP1/2, making insane logic microchips that were over-complicated, getting genuinely upset when people slapped me, making friends across the globe. jumping on after school every day and playing until late every night and just having honest fun while learning fun stuff all the time. super sad & nostalgic insights everywhere I look

Funny you mention Dreams as this LBP3 situation is a double gut punch as a few months ago Sony up and stopped Mm from going forward with Dreams. It already a scary time for a lot of fans since Sony has been extremely trigger happy with snapping studios out of existence to balance their checkbooks after COVID. On top of that it was said Dreams was not only getting a PS5 version but a PC version as well. Not to mention right before this happened, the Community Manager for LBP came aback on board to help put all hands on deck, which gave the community their, unknowingly, last bit of hope that Sony not only cared about fixing and preserving LBP but the UGC genre that Sony helped push forward. So really the gut punch of the LBP PS3 servers getting killed off, then Dreams getting live support pulled, only to see the last standing piece of the franchise that got them even bought by Sony just get tossed like this, a decade after it released no less... Lets just say I think it signaled to a lot of people that Sony truly has moved on from the UGC space altogether and see little value in it over their current risk averse output of blockbuster sequels and remakes/remasters. Though, I will admit I'm speaking very harshly as LBP has done a lot for me as a person, artist, and has taken me places I didn't think I would every go. So it's been very bitter pill to swallow watching all of this unfold.
Man I really miss this collab cross-overs with the games, I know still happen nowdays mostly with indie games but with the big franchises were kind rare back then, even more if we talking about a "M" rated franchise in an "E" game, lol!. But yeah LittleBigPlanet was a fantastic game back then with all the cross-overs that came up, too sad in see that will be lost in the delisting and it's quite disgusting that Sony never cared to make physical's revisions of the LBP games by adding DLCs stuffs inside the disc (only did it with the GOTY edition of LBP1 and the Marvel's edition of LBP Vita). Oh well, at least the MGS Pack comes in the GOTY Edition of LBP1 inside the disc, if anyone is interested it would be better to look for that version now before it become rare to find and expensive to buy.
The Metal Gear level pack was my first exposure to Metal Gear as a kid, I remember the only reason why I got it was because I thought the Gurlukovich uniform looked so cool lmao
I'm honestly suspecting that they're delisting the game to bring back the live-service concept of LBP Hub. It just makes more sense for this day and age given the games were already full of micro-tran-sack-tions and were practically already live-service games. Might as well have a free base game where you can sample some campaign levels, join friends, create your own levels, and share/play levels online. Would also be cool if you could play online with more than up to 4 players. Then give players the option to buy remastered campaigns of the first 3 games (or 5 games if including PSP and Vita) in addition to new content that's added regularly. I know it's all speculation and I could be completely off, but I just find it odd that they would delist the game if they aren't going to do anything at all with it, especially when there's still stuff to do even with the servers down.
I think if they were doing this you'd see more optimistic statements hinting that something was coming. I think they shut it down because maintenance is expensive (obviously it's actually pretty cheap but costs more than the close to nothing the games have in current revenue) and Sony likely have little interest in the franchise at all
From what I remember, the MGS level pack was actually apart of the lbp1 goty edition and is accessible right on the disk and could actually transfer to lbp2 and such, only thing was that it didnt transfer up to the ps4 version of lbp3.
....psst... a little big planet community already moved on to the PlayStation emulators with which you can play online and preserve all the games and DLC and community
The Metal Gear x Monster Hunter crossover is available in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection version of Peace Walker, at least it did on the PS3 version!
So the Monster Hunter Metal Gear crossover is playable on that 2, 3, and Peace Walker collection that was also on 360. Also, unfun fact, Paul WS Anderson, the director who made the Resident Evil movies* starring his wife, saw this random crossover, and decided that's what a Monster Hunter movie should be like, hence why that movie is a stupid dumb isekai. Also he bought the rights before even MH4U released, so before MHW got the series to pop off in the west, and he rejected numerous fantasy scripts in favor of his dumb bad isekai starring his wife. *If you're wondering why I'm being so hard on Anderson, it's not becayse he directs bad adaptations of properties I like. No, it's because his sets are death traps where stuntworkers have been maimed and received zero compensation.
fun fact actually: Restitched was originally meant to be a project to port over the little big planet series and its DLC to PC for preservation. Of course the moment it gained any popularity Sony stepped in and said its their IP to sit and do nothing with
Astro bot gameplay: 1.1 m views LBP videos: 35k Don’t get discouraged tho, I think 35,000 fans of a game can still pull in a heck of a profit for the developers, if only their mind was open enough to see it.
Also, you forgot to mention that the Level Kit also works in LBP2 and LBP3, with a couple of unimportant glitches in 3. And Dreams was discontinued in 2024, thankfully the online servers are still up though
I completely forgot to clarify that, thank you. I was playing the Level Kit in Little Big Planet 3, and I guess my brain forgot to mention that. I'd also like to clarify that the support for Dreams was discontinued, which just means that it won't be receiving any further updates. It's still available for Purchase and allows users to Play and Share custom levels unlike LBP.
Fun fact If you have the physical copy of lbp1 goty, you can play the level pack and costume pack because it is loaded on the disk and it can be used in all games from 1 to 3 on PS3 unfortunable no ps4 lbp3 but atleast you will be able to get this after October
I think the version of LBP I have has the Metal Gear DLC preinstalled on the disc which I’m really thankful for because I knew nothing about Metal Gear as a little kid and wouldn’t have downloaded it. I don’t have the LBP3 DLC unfortunately, if I’m not wrong the deadline to get everything is in November so I’m going to see if I can buy it.
5:49 Even tho is video is talking about LittleBigPlanet and MetalGear I have a question. If I bought a game before physical copies with dlc happen can I buy the physical copy with dlc and it transfers the said dlc to the game making it non digital? (It’s because I’m worried in the future when I hypothetically see it happen in one my games)
There is way to download all those dlc for free(when you cant buy it its not a steal), and also there is way to download comunity levels so we didnt lost lbp, but its harder now to enjoy it(it works on ps3 for me idk about ps4)
im sad that i had lost lbp1 but i do still own two, three and karting, but unfortunately karting has recieved scratches in the years since my youth was not exactly keen on thinking about preservation.
Perhaps one day, some brave Souls will make a PC version of Little Bi...what do you mean they did? What do you mean Sony shut it down within a month? DANG IT.
I could've sworn it was. I checked a dozen times while writing the video and couldn't find it on the PS3 store once. But as soon as someone mentions it I'm able to find it no problem. From what I've seen though, it looks like the game's DLC is set to be delisted with 3 and its DLC on the 31st.
Why are they delisitng LBP3? It's still a recent game but idk what server problems they have but couldn't you play the game without online? Well thank you for this video, glad I got this recommended because I wouldn't had known until it was too late.
I'm not sure if you know this, but the MGS level kit and costume pack are included in the LBP: Game of the Year Edition with other DLCs as well. This version of the game basically replaces the original release and it's super cheap online. The "MGS game" in question isn't going anywhere since most copies of LBP1 are always going to be the GOTY version. I will say that because the DLCs are programmed into the disc, trying to access the DLCs part of the GOTY version of LBP won't be possible if you're playing LBP2 or 3 unless you have an internet connection (I could be wrong, it's been a while). Regardless, I do understand why you made the video though and it sucks that the games we played before are slowly losing pieces that were vital to the gaming experience. I mean, look at the current state of the LBP community. Talking about LBP nowadays is as dead as the online servers in that game. rip.
Any game that uses IP from another franchise has a limited shelf life because the contracts pretty much have to have a cutoff point. Nobody will let you have their character in your game forever. Even if a publisher finds a way to preserve their game in perpetuity, if they have partners who own rights to characters in the game, those rights holders will never let you keep them forever. Honestly one of my least favorite aspects of modern gaming is the over abundance of cross overs and brand deals. It just feels like the majority of games are just advertisements for other things and it dilutes the essence of a given game. Some games like LBP are designed from the conceptual level to be built for this sort of thing, and others do it to. Just throw it into some sort of sci Fi multiverse and BAM you can have Batman and Solid Snake in the same game. $$$ When something is constantly full of reminders that this is a product that exists in the real world which has the explicit goal of maximizing profits by way of commodifying recognizability and nostalgia, I'm immediately disinterested. I play games to be immersed in a world that isn't my own. It's very hard to do that when Disney characters and comic book heroes are all over everything all of the time. I'm just so tired of it. It's a worse form of product placement. It's especially bad in games geared towards kids who don't understand what an advertisement is. This is certainly a big factor in game preservation. You no longer just have to convince one company to allow the game to survive. Every single entity who has property in the game has to agree to the same terms, and these big companies who own all of these recognizable characters are not going to let you make money off of them forever without them getting their piece of the pie.
Funnily enough, this DLC was actually kind of a warning sign, Liquid Ocelot wanted to make a machine to copy levels and flood LittleBigPlanet with the same unoriginal slop, which later on during LBP2 and 3 was kind of an issue, the DDOS attacks also used the level copying features to overload the servers, if I'm not mistaken... for the first level pack in the game, this aged like fine wine

Thank you for the Psa, LBP’s word of mouth is more important than ever with all the shutdowns taking place. Truly a one of a kind game.
I hope they relist the old DLCs before the end of the month so people who don't have them can get them.
You can't lose if you simply never be game over
fun fact actually: Restitched was originally meant to be a project to port over the little big planet series and its DLC to PC for preservation. Of course the moment it gained any popularity Sony stepped in and said its their IP to sit and do nothing with
This and pirates of the Caribbean DLC changed the game. Water and paintinator were MASSIVE game changers
LBP custom servers are great. I uploaded the saved levels I still had on my PS3
Astro bot gameplay: 1.1 m views
LBP videos: 35k
Don’t get discouraged tho, I think 35,000 fans of a game can still pull in a heck of a profit for the developers, if only their mind was open enough to see it.
i need a foldup chair and a stage light right now
Ah man i would forever rock the Raiden skin in LBP1 that was my main outfit until I learned I can make my own with stickers and items
I MISS LBP SO MUCH LIFE HURTS SO BAD AND ALL I WANT IS THIS GAME ON PC TO MAKE ME FEEL OKAY
Thank you for video, Mr. stampede
@@AvashtYT Yup, I know that too. (Honestly, thank goodness)
Fortunately the Metal Gear Packs are both on the disc of the Game of The Year edition of LBP1, so there are physical versions that are accessible.
Haha, I'm playing through Peace Walker, and I'm actually doing the Monster Hunter missions right now! Crazy timing!
I miss Little Big Planet 2
knowing now that my childhood game is shut down and i could never own dlc for it is so depressing i wouldve loved to play as kaz or ocelot 😕
Testosterone dropping
Fun fact
If you have the physical copy of lbp1 goty, you can play the level pack and costume pack because it is loaded on the disk and it can be used in all games from 1 to 3 on PS3 unfortunable no ps4 lbp3 but atleast you will be able to get this after October
Literally my 1st contact with the msg franchise
I think the version of LBP I have has the Metal Gear DLC preinstalled on the disc which I’m really thankful for because I knew nothing about Metal Gear as a little kid and wouldn’t have downloaded it. I don’t have the LBP3 DLC unfortunately, if I’m not wrong the deadline to get everything is in November so I’m going to see if I can buy it.
This gives off we have mgs at home vibs.
99% sure the level pack was packed in dlc for the game of the year version of lbp1
16 years
You can still play this DLC on an emulator. It's installed by default on GOTY edition.
The muppets pack was my childhood
Damn what a blast from the past
I had no idea they shut down the servers.
I was always so busy…
I understand what I must do
I remember buying every single LBP at release for the PS3. Miss that game so much, I switched to Xbox because none of my friends played PlayStation
I always wanted to play lbp when I was a kid. I sadly never got to play it.
Sony, please just tell us why you hate LBP so much.
Perhaps one day, some brave Souls will make a PC version of Little Bi...what do you mean they did? What do you mean Sony shut it down within a month?
DANG IT.
another banger
I bet you the algorithm is gonna find this video and it’s gonna blow up
Lbp1 was delisted too? I still can see and buy it o my ps store
THE DLC STAYED UPPP
Dreams is closed now...
Wdym
@@skooterboots2444 Dreams isn't under active development anymore, it's in a support phase
OMG i remeber so much this dlc the paint gun was so cool
Wasn't it already available in the Game of the Year edition?
It was.
this is the kind of playstation i miss. silly, fun, and still really cool.
I dont know much about Little Big Planet but I know the 3rd game u can get it on a jailbroken PS4 and some of the DLC idk if its all of them
I just bought everything LittleBigPlanet guys, we good
this was my first metal gear!
I only bought the ps5 for little big planet. Now that’s gone I can finally stop using it.
Why are they delisitng LBP3? It's still a recent game but idk what server problems they have but couldn't you play the game without online? Well thank you for this video, glad I got this recommended because I wouldn't had known until it was too late.
Nah, it's not lost. We still have emulation, even with working multiplayer. So it's only a bit more inconvenient to play.
Talking about LBP nowadays is as dead as the online servers in that game. rip.
Aw yeah!
Tell Logan his profile picture is awesome for me. Thanks.
Why why why do they keeep trying to get rid of Littlebig planet
What about emulation? They preserve that
LBP was the first game I owned for PS3. fuckin loved it. I got these DLC for free somehow, I imagine it was free if you owned MGS4.
you probably had the game of the year version
When something is constantly full of reminders that this is a product that exists in the real world which has the explicit goal of maximizing profits by way of commodifying recognizability and nostalgia, I'm immediately disinterested.
Thank you Logan!
Dreams is pretty cool
