As a Liverpool supporter this is how good I think Scholes and Giggs were. Forget every other great player in their team in the last 20 years, Staam, Rooney, Ferdinand, Keane, Beckham, Ronaldo, Van Nilstelroy...... If any other side in the EPL had of had Scholes and Giggs in their team then that team would have dominated the league the way Man Utd did. Forget every foreign import that was sensational, Bergkamp, Zola, Henry, Viera, Drogba, Suarez......hands down as a LFC supporter given the choice of having any two EPL players at our club from any player in the last 20 years its Scholes and Giggs. Both players were world class, always gave their all for the club, team mates and the fans and were consummate professionals on ad off the field. They inspired others not just in their play but in their character and approach and for my mind embody everything any supporter of any club in the world wants to see in the players at their club. Glad we no longer have to face them on the pitch yet sad I'll never again see their class on that same pitch.......Thanks Scholes (and Giggs) for some of the best footballing moments i'll ever get to see!
Well NR, some people on the net talk shit and some tell it how it is. I was telling it how it is but it sounds to me like you're a shit talker but hey if you want to prove me wrong then I'm happy to meet up and establish the facts. Lets face it, you're either willing to meet in person and find out the truth or you've proved you're just a shit talking wanker...... lets face it, there's going to be no surprise when you snake out of meeting.....
Lance Fletcher as a Utd man I’d like to say how refreshing it was to read your comment. I’d like to say the same about Stevie G. Regardless of how his career ended, there’ll never be a more gifted and dedicated Liverpudlian at LFC. A true stalwart and Titan of the game, and an overall nice guy. He will be missed on the pitch.
Scholes is a legend and I was so sad when he retired (both times). But now I think back, I'm glad he retired in 2013. He didn't deserve to be part of the 2013 14 debacle.
By far my favourite player ever. Reason I started to love United, and football in general. I come here from time to time, watch video again, share a tear for past times. One and only, Paul Scholes.
Some compare him to Xavi and Pirlo. However, I believe that Scholes is an untouchable legend, but also very much underrated. I personally put Scholes way above Xavi and Pirlo
The difference between last year and this year? Paul Scholes. We all love him but not many fans understand exactly why he is so good. Why the likes of Socrates, Henry, Xavi, Zidane and Guardiola consider him at one time, one of the best in the world. The reason: His ability to pull the strings in the midfied. For example, try to remember how many times over the years Manchester United starts an attack when Scholes makes a long pass half way across the pitch into the space for our speedy wingers to run onto. Which they then cross or pass in for the strikers to score. The distribution and vision of Scholes, speed of Valencia/Young/Nani and Finishing of RVP/ Rooney/ Hernandez make us world class. It won us the title last season. The problem now is that nobody can replace Scholes and so our entire tactic breaks down. Thus when our winger receive the ball now, its too late and they are normally too deep. They are now required to do a much harder task of beating the FB to cross or pass it in for our stikers to score. You do not have to take my word for it. Just look at the stats for this season and the last and you will see the amount of accurate crosses and key pass by the wingers have decreased by alot. Not to mention Scholes staggering number of passes and long balls. Hernandez and Kagawa's lack of goals is partly attributed to this too. Contrary to popular opinion, Kagawa's biggest asset is not his playmaking ability but his goal scoring record. He scored 12 goals in the first season at Dortmund and 17goals in the second season. Though he did not do well in the first season at Man Utd, the second season might have been different if Scholes was still around. For both of them, their acceleration is a huge part of their game. They can react faster than those huge defenders in the box. They are heavily reliant on fast and accurate crosses/key passes into the box. Without it, they are lame. Alot of ppl blame Moyes or the current crop of players for the slump and perhaps they are partly to be blame as well. However, we should not forget that this season was the season that Manchester United lost its most important player that had been a key part of the squad for the past 19 years. Gary Neville once said Scholes was the reason for Man Utd late goals while SAF said Scholes was the best player he ever had. IMO, while C.Ronaldo has the ability to beat his maker consistently, Scholes had the ability to beat the entire defense with his consistent and accurate pin point passing and vision. Reason for this slump: Paul Scholes.
I really enjoyed this video. I remember Roy Keane saying about how Scholes was the only person he knew that did what he could do on the field and then go home to his family as if he’d just finished a shift at the local factory. His talent, class, dignity and humbleness is and always will make him the greatest footballer of all time. He didn’t need to show off with fancy tricks and flicks. He could do it all. No doubt the likes of Beckham, Zidane, both Ronaldo's, Totti etc are world class footballers but there was nothing that Scholes could not do. I cannot think of anyone that played the game like Scholes. A one club player who loved and respected the shirt who came out of retirement because he was always so aware of what Sir Alex did for him. The argument of Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes is just ridiculous. Scholes was and still is what the game is about. And no I’m not Man Utd fan It’s the blue half of Sheffield for me. Irreplaceable. To be spoke of so highly and watched and studied at the Barcelona school of football is like winning the Nobel Peace prize. He should have won the Ballon more than any other but he was never a glitz and glamour player. It seems you need to be trussed up like a chicken these days to win that ‘prize’. I can’t go ranting about uefa or the FA as I’ll get cramp in my fingers. Just ask the wife about that one. You’re missed Paul you really are. I’d love to have seen Scholes or Keane putting in some crunches on Pogblargh.
One of the most accomplished Football player of his era. His vision of the game and passing ability were simply out of this world n that my friend you are born with that gift. England should have put a team around him and allow him to control the game n do his thing. Too late for that now but truly an amazing player and was such a joy, honour and privilege to watch u play Scholsey. You r greatly missed in the game
People keep comparing Stevie G, Lampard, Xavi, Pirlo, Davids, Zizou and many more to Scholes. Each player has an individual talent and is a class of his own. So quit comparing those great players. To me Scholes is the most complete midfielder to have played the game. He was even acknowledged as being the most complete midfielder by other greats such as Zizou, Xavi, Pele, Maradona brazilian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Henry etc. a joy to have watched him play. The game misses him
As a Liverpool fan I'm not gonna harp on about the pointless Gerrard vs scholes 'who was better?' debate; If truth be told there was very little between them both. Two top players; let's leave it at that. However; I've always secretly been a big fan of scholes. Absolutely terrific midfielder; United's best player during the Ferguson era. He bizarrely won very few personal awards during his career which I think is disgraceful . Best of all he was a fantastic professional off the pitch; never got involved in any scandal and seems a very humble and modest guy. Legend. To say otherwise is just ridiculous.
"Tired of what? Winning titles and trophies every week?" Savage 👍 What a legend and gentleman and one of the few players who rise above partisan support and admiration. Much respect.
My role model for sport. Never dives. Keeps strong on the ball. Will bleed for his team and continue to bleed until he dies from bleeding. He will take the hit and keep moving. He plays for the love of the sport, not for the fame or money. Will never hear about him out of football. He will always reject he is a great player. He just wants to play the game. For the talent he has, he is the most humble guy ever. Thank you Scholes for teaching me so much just by watching you're games. Much love.
the greatest english midfielder ever im a life long arsenal supporter amazing he was out of this world respect to u paul will never get another midfilder like scholsey ever again
I watched this and I bursts into tears. I really miss him on the field so much. I love everything about him, his techniques, his goals, his passes, and his attitudes. God knows how I miss him.
Same here. Scholes, Giggs and Ferguson are all i've ever known for united. Scholes i'll miss the most....so much that i have to buy a Scholes shirt to keep and show the grandkids to say he was the best.
Whoever disliked this video is either a Liverpool supporter or doesn't know shit about football. No player like Paul Scholes. The best because of what he does with and without the ball.
God, I'm cryingggggg. He's truly the best midfielder on earth and the most down to earth person ever. "I don't like compliments....... I preferred criticism." Coolest lads ever!!
I'm 15 and I've grown up as a United fan and without a doubt, Paul Scholes is my favourite player of all time, he's the player I've inspired to be! Legend
One of the two brains behind manutd dominance in 90s and 20s.He is the best midfielder in the last 30 years alongside zizou. A man who can control the tempo of the whole match....a pure midfield general.
No social networking no asking for pay rises always plays for the shirt he is wearing and the best game in the world and one of or if not the best and most complete midfielder that has ever graced the pitch . Respect Sir Paul Scholes Have an Amazing Retirement The game will Miss you ! GGMU !
As the old saying goes, "You don't know what you've got till it's gone." Every football fan knew Scholes was brilliant, and it's sad that we'll never see him play again. I feel truly lucky to have watched him play so many times. I've seen and watched all The Greats of the 90's and Naughties... but Mr Scholes is truly in a class of his own. Industrious, Inspiring, Clever and Selfless on the pitch. A grounded, quiet and shy man off the pitch. Legend.
A fabulous way to mark the birthday of our Ginger Prince. I never wanted this video to end. Top marks to whoever put this video together, it's beautifully blended. I love how the entire stadium was giving Scholes a very loud standing ovation and at the background, the piano continued playing. Lord, I had to fight back tears. :)
What a great player, midfielder.. He has won everything there's to win with Manchester United.. A very complete midfielder!... Thank you for this video-upload, Always great to see the greatest footballers shine.. ;)
You don't know what you had till it's gone, boy what a player he was! Probably the best I've seen in my lifetime in a red shirt. Wish United had him now at 25
The Best midfielder in the past 15 years... technique , intelligence, strength and consistence all put in to one.. Nobody as complete as him.. (from Chelsea fan)
From playing in one team his whole career right down to the things he has said-- tells a lot about his strong his mentality is. Leads many to think that more than a passing ability like scholes's, we need more mentally strong players in MU at the moment
Fantastic Video, Arsenal fan myself but scholes was always my favourite player! He played the way football should be played, Not the camera, He will be missed
Manchester United have my respect. They gave football Scholes, Giggs, Alex Ferguson. Such a great club. A club of loyalty, work and respect. I'm Portuguese. I've always have been and will always be a Benfica and Arsenal fan.
A player I've never seen so better in my whole life he's the genius and the legend and we will never see a player like him ever again he's the genius in a red shirt
Paul Scholes - your favourite player's favourite player.
Haha true
damn.Perfect comment.
This comment doing the rounds
Basically everyone’s favorite!
- Journalist to Zidane : How does it feel being the best midfielder ?
- Zidane : Ask Paul Scholes .
It's not Zidane actually who said that it was actually Edgar David's, read paul scholes book it says it in there.
You missed another one of Zidanes quotes. When asked, How does it feel to be the best midfielder in the world? "I dont know ask Paul Scholes"
Never seen a footballer complimented by other footballers that much.
TrebleM_HD Messi, Ronaldo
@@yashkarkhanis5324 Fair point, but if that's the bar you set he's in good company !
Best United player. He only cared about football. Avoided the limelight, avoided the fame. It was not important to him. Respect!
You know you're irreplaceable when your replacement is you . . .

Lance Fletcher i think its time to get off that keyboard mate.
But we will never "walk alone" XD...........but honestly it is a pleasure to hear that from a true Liverpool fan.
Lance Fletcher quality statement mate 👍

Paul Scholes ---> Silent Hero... Respect from FC. Internazionale Milano's fan

you are right! He is simply the best of the bests. I watched this video so many times and every single time I always finish in tears
Wow....I'm actually crying right now
Miss you so much Scholes

No, but I would love to see that midfield.
Scholes is the player that would hold a team together on his own every week if needed
So overrated

A glowing but entirely truthful tribute! So many people underestimate this guy. Oh well. Miss him so very much!
humble and brilliant footballer!!!!!!!
Rugby lad here, but this man has always been my hero. Best player and when you get respect from your peers like this, you know your a legend.

How desperately United misses him now, he simply cannot be replaced.

50 years old and Paul Scholes is one of the best football players I've ever seen. Xavi and iniesta yearned to be as good.
