Honestly Cam was bad after S2. He constantly manipulates Mitchell and then gets mad when he is in the wrong. He has his moments of kindness sure, but usually he is just plain selfish and manipulative.

Season 2 he was selfish and kinda unlikable tbh. Mitchell had his flash mob routine that he only did to impress Cam. And Cam takes it personally because he wasn't invited to dance. He didn't care how happy Mitchell was.

Not to mention Cam didn’t even let Mitch explain as to why he took part in the flash mob in the mall. Cam was right that Mitch can be a little rigid. In fact, Mitch did say that the flash mob dance was actually his love letter to Cam! Mitch actually did try to explain, but since Cam was angry, he actually shouted “YOU DANCED WITHOUT ME MITCHELL”! Sheesh Cameron, Mitchell was just dancing his love letter to you, and the least you could’ve done was show a little bit of appreciation and gratitude!

In real life, they're _more likely_ to. On TV, they want to send a message(tm) so they go out of their way to try to depict gay couples in as saintly a light as possible
Which, with how Hollywood is, still let's things like this slip through by accident.

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 2 роки тому +1

@@ExtremeWreck "Homophobia" has little to do with how abusive gay people get, actually. If anything the forced "tolerance" of all things degenerate enables people to get more abusive than they'd otherwise be.
The main thing making gay men less _physically_ abusive than straight men are towards women statistically is cowardice: That the cowardly type of man who is an abuser is more afraid of being hit back by a fellow man than the same personality type would be of being hit back by a woman. They are at least equally emotionally abusive to other men, and IMO anal sex itself qualifies as physical abuse given the rectum is objectively not built to handle that kind of treatment.
Lesbians, meanwhile, tend to be both more physically abusive than straight women and more abusive than straight men, both physically and emotionally/psychologically. This is born out by a number of factors including the total social domination of both feminism and the "gay rights movement" in modern society insulating them from consequences to their actions, widespread notions that physical abuse is "less serious" when done _by_ women regardless of the victim, or that mental and emotional abuse aren't really abuse at all and don't need to be addressed ever.

@@RoninCatholic Not sure on that. They are stereotypes mostly. They can happen in real life, but those aren't ALWAYS the reason. I would probably say a mix between homophobia, gay/lesbian erasure, & the overall love of violence that most humans have inside them.

Same for writing characters, if horrid characters are beloved then that characteristic is latched onto, which is why flanderization happens.

I hated the episode where Cam basically gaslights Mitch to go to this Zen spa retreat and then ditches him so he could see a famous baseball team. One thing I’ll NEVER get over is Cam allowing his mom to sexually assault his boyfriend whenever she wanted to. Absolutely. Never.
I literally don’t give a fuck whatever excuse he used. Don’t get me wrong y’all - I really love my parents, as in, I’ve always been a mommy’s and daddy’s girl that always came crying to them whenever anything went wrong and it would break me if I lost contact with them.
But if I ever found out that my mom or dad were inappropriately touching/sexually assaulting my girlfriend, they’d be out of our life in an instant and I would NEVER allow them to come anywhere near her again. I don’t even care, I’d do whatever it takes to protect that girl. Even if you’re my mom or dad, you won’t be getting a free pass anytime soon.
So Cam blaming it on the fact that he’s a mommy’s boy is bullshit in my opinion. It’s honestly crazy how that wasn’t the breaking point for Mitch. Cam literally walked in on his mother touching and inappropriately staring at his boyfriend who was literally naked, and guess what Cam did… He took a fucking photo… Like, what? Excuse me?
I will never get how people like Cam. He clearly doesn’t give a shit about Mitchell. Also, is this what you want to teach your daughter as a father figure? It’s okay if someone assaults you as long as it’s someone you’re close to? Really?

Thank God someone talk about this. "Mother Tucker" was the worst episode in the entire show and it made me hate both Cam and Claire. Mitch went to them and they both mocked and dismissed him. To make it worse in "ClosetCon'13" she *still* touches him inappropriately meaning he *really* did nothing to prevent it from happening. No wonder Mitch didn't want the Tucker's to be Lily's godparents. He was probably worried that she would be a freak to his daughter too.
To make it 10X worse, in "Grab It", Cameron practically *forced* Mitchell to be sexually assaulted against his will! He knew damn well what was going to happen when Mitch walked onto that stage and he didn't even think to make sure it was okay with Mitchell that he was about to be unconsetually made out with. And when he didn't want to, Cam called him selfish because if Mitch didn't go up then Cam couldn't have his spotlight. I'm glad that Mitchell stole his thunder to put him in his place. Cameron was always a terrible person and Mitchell deserves far far far better. He is fucking disgusting and doesn't care at all for the man he claims to love. (Sorry for the rant. I'm *very* passionate about this.)

I think something that annoys me a lot was this episode when Mitchell convinced Cam to go to therapy, and out of the blue Cam managed to make years of therapy in one second and the therapist is like "wow, this guy is amazing, come on Mitchell you still need therapy". Even if it was for comedy, it is still weird. Like sure Mitchell needs some therapy, but Cam needs even more. It is crazy to me that they made him so selfish and at the same time, try to convince you that Mitchell is the bad guy.
Also, I think it is weird how we are supposed to support their relationship even if it is crazy unhealthy. The other couples also have some conflict, but for Mitch and Cam, it just seems that they have opposed values to the point you wonder how they even get together in the first place.

Ooh boy, I could talk about this for ages. In the majority of the episodes in most of the seasons but primarily in the later half, Cam is toxic, controlling, manipulative, and just all-around a bad partner. He treats Mitchell terribly, from diminishing his trauma and belittling him to flat-out not caring when his own mother, Barb, and his sister, Pam, sexually assaulted Mitchell on multiple occasions.
He plays on Mitchell’s abandonment issues (such as keeping a packed suitcase to leave whenever he wants), he mocks Mitchell for not being romantic but scorns him when he does (‘Manny Get Your Gun’ is the biggest example of this), and openly scorns Mitchell for having boundaries (‘The Kiss’ comes to mind, but this happens in almost every episode). Additionally, there are so many scenes where he just appears to not care about Mitchell whatsoever; in ‘The Wild’, for example, when Mitchell is left outside alone in the middle of the woods at night, Cam doesn’t care at all, or in ‘Summer Lovin’ when his only priority is to shove Mitchell back into work rather than help him work through what’s really going on/what he’s struggling with.
The three worst things Cam has done, however, is 1) in s11 when he lied about Mitchell to their friend group and faked a breakup in order to gain sympathy for no reason other than his own ego, something I have had an ex do to me which makes it more personal, 2) in the episode ‘Mother!’ when Cam is shown to have befriended DeDe (who is portrayed as someone who abused Mitchell and Claire!!) and talked shit about Mitchell to her for their entire relationship, and 3) in the episode ‘Grab It’ when Cam forces Mitchell into a role on stage where he is non-consensually kissed by a girl and forces Mitchell to apologize for ‘ruining his play’ afterward.
I won’t even go into detail about the ending of s11 for them, because it makes me SO angry, but Mitchell was forced into that too, even when it was an awful situation that would bring good for no one other than - you guessed it - Cameron.
Some people might say that Mitchell is toxic, too. I wholeheartedly disagree, however. One example is, as previously listed, ‘Manny Get Your Gun’, when Mitchell is part of a flash mob to surprise Cam with a romantic gesture, but Cam is ungrateful and angry and just a douche overall.
When Mitchell tells Cam he is being sensitive, he is one hundred percent correct. On the flip side, when Mitchell is sexually assaulted by Cam’s mother and voices his discomfort to Cam, and Cam calls him sensitive - that is toxic. That is not okay. That is disgusting behavior.
I could go on and on and on about how Mitchell deserves so much better, how Cam is terrible, how the homophobia is so deeply rooted in the show’s writers that they made the one gay couple into one of the most manipulative and toxic relationships I’ve ever seen in media. I could also stress how bad this could be for someone in real life (i.e., ‘my favorite TV couple acts like this and so if my relationship is also like that, it must be healthy!’) or how terrible it is given what we know about Mitchell’s past with shitty boyfriends only to be thrust into this new environment with another toxic partner. But I believe I’ve given enough broad examples to this.
Unfortunately, this really can be blamed on the homophobia of the writers/network and of just bad writing itself; sitcoms often fall apart when going on too long, or relationships lose their charm with the audience. That’s my biggest issue with sitcoms, though- I guarantee that no one was laughing when Cam got angry at Mitchell because Cam’s sister assaulted him.
TLDR: Cam is manipulative and toxic and shitty, which is why I write fanfiction for them. Because Mitchell deserves better, and in the fleeting, rare episodes where Cam sticks to his pilot version rather than an awful partner, he is just as wonderful. Anyways, my UA-cam recommended knows me TOO well.

I completely agree with what you said. As of the later seasons, he became my second least favorite character after Phil. Only reason why I dislike Phil more is because Phil's stupidity affected a lot of people, not just Claire (like the time where he hurt Luke's eye because his ego was hurt), while Cam's selfish character for the most part only really affected Mitchell. That doesn’t make it any better obviously, but either way, he just has a lot of problems and I am still questioning why the hell they made Mitchell agree to move to Missouri with him. If I were Mitchell, I would divorce him at that point. Mitchell made it sound like Cam made such a great sacrifice by staying in California, but that is BS. @KhmerTarotReading oooooh, true. But when I said "daughters marry their fathers and sons marry their mothers"....I was talking about mitch. Because cam and dede (mitch's mom) are alot alike. I wasn't talking about Claire. I was just quoting a saying . That's all. I hope that make sense. I feel bad for Lilly because her parents remind me of my mother. They care about their appearance, so they can be accepted in society. Smoke and mirrors, my friend. Smoke and mirrors. All they care about is their image.

Looking at this scene, season 1 cam would probably freak out about it more than anyone else.
But I really liked modern family overall. The seasons you are talking about are for sure not the best the show has to offer, but i still enjoyed some of the jokes and they had some good moments too.
I feel like the writers of the show had a very specific set of characters in mind when creating the show, and when everyone grew older, they did'nt know what to do with them anymore.
so they added new characters and changed stuff, which made it worse. I guess for a show like this it would be smart to just end it when everyone is grown up.
But even with the flaws, it's a really good show with clever writing most of the time.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who didn't like Cam! It seems like the show is always on his side, making Mitchel the bad guy!
It's been a hot minute since I've seen the show but what always sat really wrong with me was the way Cam let his family treat Mitch. Not just his sister (which was horrible enough) but literally all of them. Mitch who had a lot of traumata from his childhood especially because of his sexuality and had to deal with his father's homophobia. It took him such a long time and so much strength to come out and start standing up for himself. But the second it comes to his family, Cam is on their side, defending them, gaslighting Mitch and making him feel guilty for speaking up.
Also, there are in heneral just some awful scences that had me feel so bad for Mitch. Like in the first season when he wasn’t comfortable with being affectionate with Cameron in front of his family and Cam started a public discussion about it in front of everyone?

they did that cuz “the world are oblivious to gay relationships”

Eh, the problem overall is that they had no where to go that would keep audience attention. I think it's a bit of a flaw to call him too caring in early episodes, everything he does is really for him and he's never quick to truly understand or help someone else. Even when he's "helping" someone else early on, it's always on his own terms and sense of grandiosity. In later seasons they just got honest about who he was and who people with his personality actually are outside of a contrived sitcom hijink. It was poorly executed, but that's what happens several years into a character who started at 11 and doesn't actually interact with the other characters.
