    • @JohnWillman
      @JohnWillman  Рік тому

      Thanks for the response, as far as the concrete bags for a chain link fence hole, it all depends on how big the hole is, normally I use 1-1/2 bags of 60# quickcrete. I hope it helps, if its a post for a gate I would use a bit more for integrity, certainly don't want the gate post to start leaning after you hang a gate from the post

    You make it look so easy. I presently have a swing gate and want to convert it to a roller. Can I use the existing gate for conversion or do I have to get an actual rolling gate? Thank you.

    • @JohnWillman
      @JohnWillman  4 місяці тому +1

      First off the gate needs to be one foot larger than the opening to accommodate for the front and rear wheels. Secondly it would depend on the outside diameter of your gate. If it is a 1-3/8" residential style frame, the components for the slide gate won't fit. The frame needs to be 1-5/8" outside diameter pipe for the the gate components to work. If you can extend the existing fence by a foot and the gate you want to use is a 1-5/8" gate frame then I don't see why it won't work. Let me know if this helps out, thanks for viewing. 30yrs of experience, that's why it looks easy.

      Thank you for the info. Unfortunately my gate is the exact size of the opening. The outside posts are big enough, its just my gate is not long enough. My opening is 12', so I'll be looking for a different gate. Shame too, because its a solid one. Anyway, thank you again. Best regards.

    We have a double swing gate thats a 12’+ opening. We want to expand to at least a 20’ slide gate on grass. What would the widest we could go would you say? Its a side yard gate. So the opening would need to be enlarged. I think if we went back to the next post that would give us maybe 20’. Would that post need to be replaced if it is now and end post? What would you estimate this would cost to do? Just to give me an idea?

    • @JohnWillman
      @JohnWillman  Місяць тому

      @@mycharmedunicorn8715 Hello,.. one thing to remember is that you will need at least 21' for the gate to open in to. So for a 20' opening you will need 21' for the gate to slide on. Let me know if I am making sense here,.. As far as the post is concerned, I have sleeved over posts and used them for a gate post. Cantilever gates are a bit more expensive but a way better style of slide gate system especially if you install the nylon wheels for the gate to slide /roll on, the gate should slide / roll like a hot knife through butter. The 20' slide gate system would be a bit more cumbersome to slide along the ground. Your choice though and it all depends on how much money you are willing to spend. I hope this helps out,.. thanks for viewing.

    • @JohnWillman
      @JohnWillman  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for viewing,.. yes it can be done on 4 x 4 wood posts, not advised though since wood posts tend to snap off at ground level,.. as far as the span is concerned, everybody is different, it really depends on how heavy the gate is,.. I like 5'6" to 6' between posts giving the track more of a substantial type of integrity,.. I hope this helps out, keep smiling

    Hey John Awesome video. question, Can I instal the bars on the outside of the gate? I would have to take off the side of the front gate in order to install it on the inside of the gate which is secured by my front tenant. I was planning to install the track on the outside of the existing fence, because my tenant has a small dog that they let run around in the yard and the gate would slide inside there yard. I'm worried about the dog gettin hurt or escaping while the tenant in the back opens the gate for the driveway if I cut the side gate and install the track on the inside. what do you think? is that not a good idea.

    • @JohnWillman
      @JohnWillman  Рік тому

      You can do that, just know you will have to cut the chain link in order for the track bracket to fit up against the post correctly and then this way would take away a bit of clearance for the rear wheels to roll along the track, a few washers added to the axle may help with that. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you either way,.. hope it all works out for you
