I'm third generation in our little family fence business. Seeing you and your son reninds me if all tve good times my Dad and I had many years ago. I don't get to do much commercial anymore so it's fun watching what we used to do 20 some years ago. Keep up the great work!
Welcome to Florida. I've seen all your vids from Wyoming, you guys do amazing work with amazing tools. I think you'll find our weather and our digging much better than you found back home. Best I can tell you guys had to constantly dig through rocks instead of dirt. Looking forward to the competition y'all bring to Florida, and I hope competing with y'all gets my company to a higher level. Hope we all have dang good days!
Is there any structural advantage to have the chain link go all the way down the fence panel? I had a wood clad cantilever gate installed and left the cantilever section open.
Just did my first cantilever! At tinker afb, two 40 foot gates. We used x’d truss rods in 6ft sections for our bracing. And steel rollers in c channel at the top rail
Nice job I'm pretty sure I've seen you around I think we both get stuff from binford I've been watching these guys I mr fence for a while they've helped me come a long way
When designing your gates, what is your formula for finding the tail length? Say your gate opening was 12’ 6”, how much longer would your gate need to be in between the support wheels?
The gate panel typically needs to be 50% longer than the opening. So a 12 foot opening needs an 18 foot panel. You may have to make some adjustments based on the type and weight of the panel.
My good friend! Kindly insert a link on where the BEST place to purchase these ROLLERS and hope you get a small cut from the VENDOR. Thank you for posting this amazing content.. would like that link asap not sure how often you check these comments From 🇨🇦 Canada
Roller post should be about a foot less than half the width of the opening. So if I was setting post for a 20 foot opening, I would set the roller post about 9 feet apart.
That is a really nice city-fied entrance gate. Thanks for showing how you and your minion installed it. I’ve watched a bunch of SWI gate videos and have begun to wonder. What do you guys have against Bob-War gates? In my opinion there is nothing prettier than a nice five strand… hedge post anchored… hand whittled white oak stake ended… Bob-War gate. The number of variations in closure attachment are endless… a chain and stick tensioner… a wire loop bail on the top and bottom… or for those who want the ambiance.. there’s always the classic bailing wire double twist hand tie, to consider. A thing of beauty? You bet. And bonus… there’s no plastic to accidentally hammer on!!! I hope you don’t take offense… but some gates are just purdier than others! And beauty in the eye of this beholder would rather be holding a nice Bob-War gate! PS… I want to beautify my pasture entrance. Do you have any links to videos that show how to build a good danged 5 strand Bob-War gate?
We don't have anything against a nice bob-war! 🤣 It's just all about what the customer wants--you know? Take a gander at this gate and see if it meets your needs: ua-cam.com/video/ZQYvmjQjfmA/v-deo.html
@@SWiFence yep…. I watched that one. And, I must admit… it was a purdy gate. But, it still doesn’t have that homegrown organic… built from brush along the fence line, using old Bob-War, salvaged from the fence washed out in the crick bottom… feel. My trailer chains are worn out from dragging on the road. So, I might try one of those locking latches. Then I can use the chain that I lock the gate with, on that. Appreciate ya reminding me of that!! Thanks for the link… and it also reminded me.. you said you didn’t like hedge posts in the comments. Have you warmed up to them any since?
@@SWiFence thanks for the link. I live in a warm climate also and I like the idea of the bottom track fence you mentioned in the vid. Thanks for the info. I will get some measurements and reach out for a quote. Thanks
One way around the gap problem is to separate the roller posts from the fence and put them behind the gate panel. I did that on mine because my gate panel is covered with cedar fencing. I only have about a two inch gap under the gate. You can also get the gate panel closer to the fence to reduce the gaps at the ends. On a chain link gate you might have to have separate rails for the rollers with the fence panel spaced off of them.
A general rule is 40% of the gate opening. As far as depth it really depends on ground conditions. I always say go big or go home. If you were to do a 30 ft opening I would say 36 in wide by 5 ft deep for each post should do it. Concrete is something like 4050 lbs per sq yard, and in a cantilever gate they’act as a counter weight to some extent.
I wish we could accommodate requests like this easily, but everybody's pretty slammed. You're welcome to try though! Email sales@swifence.com with your pic and problem and we'll see if we can't get back to you with advice. 👍🏻 No promises though. 😔
I have had fun dealing with gates like that. At least you do not have to deal with a language barrler like we do in south Florida. It has been many years since I have seen a white man work outside here. Has been even longer since I saw a son do physical work with his dad.
We'd love to talk that over! You can email at sales@swifence.com, or you can call the Cody shop at 307-578-8040, x1005. Look forward to hearing from you! 👍🏻

Will the 4 inch kit clear 4 1/2 oil field tubing? Unsure if it has a little clearance factored in.
Quick question, why run diagonal posts rather than horizontally across the middle of the gate ? Does it make it stronger running the posts diagonally?
Yes, sure does. 👍🏻 ua-cam.com/video/s18JHq7gBhA/v-deo.html

Hello, what is the standard length between 4in posts. I have a 16ft opening of a door opening.
I’ve wanted one for years but my wife says I Can’t Leave Her at home behind a gate like that.
Great tutorial! Off topic question: who do you guys go through to get your company shirts made? Thanks
Can I put that on an existing fence with 1 3/8 pole?

How far apart do you space the posts holding the rollers?

Ah... well... no, not really. I still feel the same way about them. 🤣
Bob-war, huh? 👌
That’s nice but it seems really far off the ground where my dog can get under. Is there any way to get it closer to the ground.
Not for this type of gate. You'll need to look at a different type. ua-cam.com/video/hY9QEgqhpZU/v-deo.html

Great info! How deep and wide does the foundation have to be for this system?

12" x 36" minimum. Softer grounds will require larger footings.
Is there a way I could do that with vinyl , I have a customer that wants a 16' cantilever gate
You can build a steel cantilever gate and attach the vinyl on top of it using standoffs.
@@SWiFence okay I'm not too familiar with standoffs can you give me a little more description of how I can do it
Great clean job.
Thank you!
Well did guys.
